  1. Darrel,, Do you have all the AAU meets for 2004 firmed up yet? Michael Morelan
  2. OK, what the rumors about changes in weight classes? I do know 103 is hard to fill. is that being considered to be dropped? Also, I belive a 235 to 245 class should be started. Is that a option? Michael Morelan
  3. I believe wrestling isnt as popular as other sport is that it takes two people. A kid can shoot hoops by his/her self. A kid can kick a ball by his/her/ self. A kid can hit a ball by his/her self. A kid can throw a ball by his/her self. Parents dont have to be involved in a lot of sports, they use them as sitting services. How many kids have one parent in their life? Most single parents are women, they don't want a hurt child and the other sports seem safer. Also most schools have a basketball "monarchies", thus a place to put a mat down will never be given up. Basketball 24/7 12 months a year. Most of all some parents cant stand the fact that their child may not be the best at a sport and they have no one else to blame. Kids have and will wrestle, just let them. Parents should be involved with their children. Then look at some of the highchool coaches, How many of the coaches want a kid to just do one sport? So most kids are brainwashed that its football or nothing, its basketball or nothing, its baseball or nothing, its soccor or nothing. How many football coaches said at the end of the season, I want you guys to wrestle to be better football players? Did any say guys I want you to do track to give you better running skills? Did any say play soccor it help your game? Michael Morelan
  4. Chris,, I will have him call you Monday. Michael Morelan
  5. With the possibility of Tennessee going to hydration testing and Tanita scales I have been looking for good information on weight loss for wrestlers . The National Federation of State High Schools Associations. http://www.nfhs.org has some great information on this issue. Michael Morelan
  6. Has the TSSAA issued new rules for wrestling coaches? If so what are they? Or is some old rules just being enforced? If this a repeat of a old post,, just head me in the right direction. Thanks Michael Morelan I remember several years ago when they did this is some minor sport (basket something),, that didn't last too long.
  7. wrestlingirl, Are you the girl that wrestled AAU this summer? If so I talked to your mother several times. Miranda lost by points for the 112 spot for Central. She will try again for 112 in two weeks. Or start cutting. What class are you in now? Michael Morelan
  8. Texas oops,, I will correct that,, Brian Gossett is Central's new Coach. He wrestled for Central when he was a student here. We have another girl on our team. Amber Smith @ 119 lbs, sophmore a first year wrestler. JV. Michael Morelam
  9. CloudDrakan, Miranda is at 109 lbs last night. We are not sure where she will wrestle. She is trying to win the 112 class to wrestle for Central, If she doesnt win that spot She will prob cut to 103 like she was last year. She will have a difficult time making 103,, she is 1 1/2 inchs taller this year and spent a lot of time running this fall. ( nothing there too lose) We have a new coach( Brian Gossett) and he has Miranda very motivated as is the rest of Central's team. Our team has went from 4 kids 3 years ago to 24 last night. 16 are freshman and sophmores. Michael Morelan
  10. SLY,, thanks,, it was Michael Hampton.. He quit? What a loss. He was very impressive, a nice young man. Is he a senior this year? Michael Morelan
  11. The young man that wrestled hwt last year for Cleveland (sorry I dont remember his name) Isnt he wrestling 189 this year? Thanks Michael Morelan
  12. If possible I would like for the Soddy & Red Bank Tournament to be open to girls from all teams. It is to make money? yes? and to promote wrestling? Open this up to all the girls and add team points up at the end. True not many people at this time could field a full girls team but this could be the the state wide promotion for the girls. Isnt Brands at UTC the womens director for USA in Tennessee and I do know that Darrell Laughterdale(may be misspelled) at Seymore is the AAU Director for Tennessee. Seymore had a state wide womens tournament last year and had women from all across America. I know my daughter won several highschool matches last year and at the womans tourament she didn't score a point. Wrestlers are Wrestlers Just a suggestion. Michael Morelan
  13. Stepping on a big soap box. Girls/Womens wrestling is one of the best things to happen to wrestling in years. Title IX is killing wrestling for men. one of the ways to get wrestling growing is to bring in more people. Women that wrestle may save this sport for your children. Each wrestler that steps on the mat brings more support. Each team that has "mat girls" brings more people to the sport. Each team that has cheerleaders brings more people to the sport. The wrestling community must bring in more people and explain to them our sport. Sell wrestling!!! 250 plus colleges have dropped wrestling. 1972 all this title IX started 31 years ago 14 college wrestlers per team 108,000 men has lost the chance to wrestle in college. This number will grow with out bring in more people. (not exact numbers,, on the low side) Support wrestling and wrestlers. Or are you going to put some one down for trying to do what you are doing? Michael Morelan
  14. Miranda Morelan is her name.. good try tho. Michael Morelan
  15. Trophy Hunter... Thanks.. Andrea will be a great addition to any team. Michael Morelan
  16. I am not sure of all the girls names but I belive several teams have girls wrestlers. McMinn Central 2 (one from last year and a new girl) Seymore 1 (great wrestler, good skills) Sequoyah 2 (a first year team) Greenback had 2 last year. ( I am not sure if they are wrestling this year) I seen some more last year in highschool but I do not know where they were from. We saw several girls this and last summer wrestling. We wrestled AAU and USA in Georgia. AAU and USA in Georgia has no prob letting the girls wrestle. USA in Georgia has made a all girls bracket at some meets but they get to wrestle in both. Wrestlers are Wrestlers, male or female Michael Morelan
  17. The girls match at Soddy, will this be just between the two teams or is it open for other girls? thanks Michael Morelan
  18. Thanks for all the replys,, The kids cheering were at the north end of the field, in the bleachers. The pk's were at the south goal.. The other end of the field away from the players. thanks Michael Morelan
  19. Hello all again,, I have another question,, When McMinn Central was playing Walker Valley. Both teams were tied and getting ready to do their "pk's". One of the officals turned around and had the group of students quit making the cheers as the Walker Valley player kicked. The Walker Valley group was quite also during this. When the players from Central kicked all was quite also. my Question is can the Offical tell the crowd to be quite during this? Both teams were treated the same way. Is this normal? Michael Morelan
  20. While reading all this I relize all people are different. But I also relize people think because someone does one thing they cannot do another. Well my daughter was a cheerleader, she was the voted to be the Captain,, she does ballett, she even was in a show by the Knoxville Ballett Company, she had done tallent shows and modling. She was asked to do a modling show last week. But she also is a wrestler on a highschool team, she wrestlers AAU and USA. She also came close to making the state in highschool last year. Several time she won her first match and then have no one wrestler her later in a tourny. I am not saying cheerleaders should wrestle, but if you welcome and want to involve the cheerleaders you would gain support for wrestling and the cheerleaders will gain also. Michael Morelan
  21. This should be a great game. Neither team plays the same style of play. Walker Valley has great passing and ball controll. Sweetwater plays very hard with a lot of contact. I belive the officals will deside who wins this game, if it is called close: Walker Valley will win: if called in a mannor that allows a lot of ruff play Sweetwater will win. Michael Morelan
  22. Uof Maryland is dividing Cheerleading into two squads starting Oct 15, one will cheer at games and the other will attend cheering competions. Some collages offer partial financial aid to their cheerleaders but Maryland is the first school seeking to use cheerleading scholarships toward complying with Title IX. This has created 12 cheerleading scholarships, No men scholarships were cut. But FYI Cheerleading isn't recognized as a sport by the NCAA, and the Department of Education says drill teams, cheerleading and the like can't be considered athletic programs for the purpose of Title IX. This may be the future. Michael Morelan
  23. Cheerleaders,, the U of Maryland athletic directior(Debbie Yow) had made cheerleading a "Varsity" sport. I am not sure but this may be a first. But the Title IX gender quota advocates are criticizing Maryland because they added a sport they don't like. Debbie Yow is quite a AD!!! Michael Morelan
  24. Yes,, my daughter plays for McMinn Central,, I have never seen grass that high on a field before. When we played in a tourny at Hiwassee Collage(in a farm field) it was lower than the school field in Hixon. We also have played at Cleveland and at Boyd Buchanan, both of these fields were mowed close. Central's field is mowed short. Again I was surprised by the field in Hixon, and it did not seem to be the "standard". Michael Morelan
  25. blondie,,, the school is Hixon, outside Chattanooga. Michael Morelan
