  1. Former Father Ryan QB and Alum Christopher Chauvin. He was at BGA before joining the MBA staff.
  2. Thanks to Father Ryan Alum Jim Carell, Chairman, Careall,Inc. - Major Donor of Father Ryan's Jim Carell Athletic Complex who donated money to help JPII improve their facilities. The man has definitely left a legacy to say the least!
  3. Yes I was very surprised as well. Not sure Coach Frank Simpson saw what the kid did or he would have definitely disciplined him, because he is a class act. The Big Red had more wrestlers on the bench than fans in the stands. I was disappointed in the lack of interest from the Big Red faithful. The student section cleared out with two matches left in the meet. The highlight of the night for MBA was the wrestler who taunted the Father Ryan fans after getting a pin. Great match and win, but the taunting was uncalled for. Go celebrate with your teammates. Someone needed to remind him that Father Ryan has the 3rd Most Individual State Champions in the History of Tennessee Wrestling and that MBA is 8th in the State. (Thanks to the Simpson brothers) Father Ryan has 11 Team State Championships, which is the 2nd most ever and MBA has 0. The MBA cheerleaders in the parking lot were chanting “We were so close, we were so close†with the final score 38-21. This is what was posted on the MBA Site: “Father Ryan defeats MBA in a close match The Father Ryan wrestling team defeated the Big Red in front of their home crowd by the score of 38-21. The night was very intense as the two school battled each other all night long with Ryan pulling away at the end with 2 pins. However, the Big Red came with a intentions on upsetting the Irish. Big wins tonight came from Matthew Davidson, Daniel Bellet, Frank Vest, Mark Simpson, Chris McClure and Jay Robertson. Congratulations the the Big Red for their efforts tonight.“
  4. No it was something to do with three fingers or something like that. The MBA wrestlers were all loving it behind the bench after the match as they hugged him. It was the highlight of their night.
  5. Who was the classy MBA wrestler who won by pin, ran to the Father Ryan cheering section, flexed and threw up some type of hand gesture to taunt the Irish faithful?
  6. Father Ryan wins own wrestling tournament Irish tournament belongs to hosts By Maurice Patton THE TENNESSEAN Email to a friend Share on Facebook With three individual champions, Father Ryan held off a late challenge from Christian Brothers to win its invitational wrestling tournament Saturday night. The Irish lost three championship matches in the lighter weights, but sophomore 145-pounder Mark Marchetti's second-period pin of Mt. Juliet's Matt Seaman turned the tournament in his team's favor. "I knew I had to get some momentum going, get the team rolling," Marchetti said. "I wasn't expecting a pin, but I got put in that position and I needed to go for the kill and get those team points. We needed them." Senior Chris Agnew followed with a 5-4 win against Franklin's Zach Bennett at 152 pounds -- a victory sealed by Agnew's two-point reversal with 15 seconds remaining -- and 189-pound junior T.J. Holmes closed out the winning performance with an 8-2 decision over Mt. Juliet's Blake Biggs. "It goes through your mind as you get behind, and you really start thinking about it in the last 30 seconds, that you're trying to pull every ounce of energy to do something to get ahead," Agnew said. "We needed every point we could get." Taking a three-point lead over Christian Brothers into the championship finals, Father Ryan overcame title-match losses at 103, 112 and 130 to finish with 228 points. Christian Brothers, with 220 points, placed second. "Those weren't good matchups for us," Ryan Coach Pat Simpson said. "Those were matches we were going to have a hard time winning. We felt the last three were matches we were probably favored in. "Marchetti's pin was huge. We were behind at that point, and that flipped (the score). Chris is Chris. He's going to do something to electrify the crowd, do something spectacular. And T.J. just kept fighting to figure out something that worked." Montgomery Bell Academy, paced by Casey Ortale's championship win over Father Ryan's Collin McNally at 112, finished third with 186.5 points, followed by Franklin (160) and Mt. Juliet (140.5). Brentwood sophomore Gabe Hamilton picked up his fourth pin in as many matches over the two-day event as he stuck Brentwood Academy's Zeno DuPree in the final minute for the 140-pound crown. "I don't really win many matches by points, but I didn't expect a pin," Hamilton said after he improved to 22-3 on the season. Mt. Juliet senior Tanner Bates won the 119 title with a 10-0 decision against Battle Ground Academy's Pierce Olson. "I've been beaten here a few times. It's good to get a win," Bates said. "I just went out looking to get my takedowns and work hard for six minutes. It was a fun match." The Agnew-Bennett clash earned best match honors. Franklin swept outstanding wrestler honors with Austin Woods at 130 pounds and John Shrader at 160. http://www.highschoolsports.net/local/Nashville/article/2011101090358
  7. A Sheboygan man learned Monday that U.S. Rep. Tom Petri's office is now working to get his son, a pilot, released from a Dominican Republic jail, where he is being held after a large drug bust found 300 pounds of cocaine on the cargo plane he was flying. Kevin Kuranz, 31, and co-pilot Christopher Smith — employees of Milwaukee based Air Cargo Carriers — have been detained since Thursday, and are in the middle of a drug investigation that has cast suspicion on 18 military and government officials in the Dominican Republic. A second hearing on the case was scheduled for Monday, but as of late afternoon Joe Kuranz, 66, had not heard any information on whether the hearing took place, or if his son and the co-pilot were still being held. "Right now, all we have is the update from Congressman Petri's representative, to tell me they are on it, they're working on it," Joe Kuranz said. For the first two days, Kuranz and Smith were detained at the Marriott hotel where they were staying, according to Joe Kuranz. But after a hearing Saturday night, Joe Kuranz said the judge ordered them to a holding cell. The pilots were considered innocent heading into that hearing, Joe Kuranz said he was told, with the expectation they would be released. Joe Kuranz said Smith's father, who is in the Dominican Republic, also has been trying to get updates. "I don't know if he's had access to them in the holding cell, or at a meeting or whatever," he said. Kevin Kuranz, 31, a Sheboygan South grad, was making his first flight into the Dominican Republic. He and Smith were flying a Short 360 that was stripped down for cargo use. Joe Kuranz said he is trying to stay strong. "I sleep good sometimes, and I don't sleep good. We're very worried because he's in a Third World country and we're not getting much information. It sounded like it was going to be easy, they were going to hold them overnight and release them the next day. It just isn't happening. Reports that come back are very vague."

  15. Clemson Practices at Giacosa Stadium Clemson University's football team prepared for the Music City Bowl against Kentucky last week at Ryan's own Giacosa Stadium. On December 24, the Tigers took to the field while a handful of Father Ryan and Clemson fans looked on. They prepared well and went on to defeat Kentucky 21-13. 16. The Irish are stopped less than a yard short on 4th and 16. 2:32 left in the game it looks like the Tigers are going to pull out the victory. Not sure where this Ryan offense was last week, but it was nice to see the Irish put some points on the board on the road against a very good Ensworth team.
  17. McPhail throws an interception in the red zone. I have never seen a QB take as many sacks and miss as many open wide receivers in a game than I have seen tonight by McPhail. The football is a little bit wet, but some of the wide receivers that were missed tonight were bad. Hopefully he gets another shot to lead the team back down the field for a chance to win the game. Orleans Dakwa has five touchdowns, which includes a 95 yard TD kick off return.
  18. Ensworth 35 Father Ryan 27 8:00 minutes left in the 4th quarter and the Irish have the football on the 21 yard line trying to tie up the football game.

  20. Leslie McDonald struggled against Ryan, but you can not base a player's game after watching him one time. Ryan's goal was to make someone else on Briarcrest beat them and it worked. In my opinion McDonald showed discipline, because he was playing team basketball. In reality he could have taken the basketball and tried to score every single time down the floor. Ryan played good D, but McDonald could get to the rim any time he wanted, but he continued to do what the coaches asked of him and play team ball.
