  1. Truly twisted "logic" You obviously are a flaming liberal. Mr Frist has still spent $1,000,000. It's HIS money - NOT the government's. Money better spent by a citizen than by the feds. The tax deduction is allowed by law. To quote you, "If you don't like it - talk to your Congressman."
  2. If we're going to suggest login name changes, how about changing yours to StoopidPoster
  3. MUS has played a more competitive schedule and thus should be better prepared. They are playing at home. THey have payback in mind after stinking up the field last year losing by 7. But the main reason is because olddevil is picking MUS. Besides, historically it is rarely a good idea betting against MUS at home, except when they play South Panola or Ensworth.
  4. I too would like to know WHY you posted RB's salary on this blog. WHY won't you answer this question? To say it was to point out a disparity between private and public schools is LUDICROUS. Private schools are free to pay whatever they want to any staff member. Public school salaries are determined by the government. Why should you or anybody else give a rat's behind what the man EARNS???
  5. I said I didn't know why a different result would be expected. That was true. What I didn't know is that LaSalle is NOT one of the best teams in Ohio this year.. Nobody else in Memphis apparently knew it either, as LaSalle was a unanimous pick to win the game on the BGIM "pick em" blog on the 5A/6A thread. It all starts at QB, and theirs was not very good.. An inexperienced sophomore I believe. Their kicking game was horrible - went 0-3 on PATs. Because of this, they had to gamble late in the game, and CBHS made them pay with 2 late scores to win after trailing 18-16. CBHS was "light years" better at QB and kicking. Moreover, they committed zero TOs. They should have won and I'm glad they did. Yes, that's why they play the game.....
  6. Certainly these were 3 great wins for these 3 schools. However, all of their opponents are not as good as last year. USP is at a perhaps unprecedented down, certainly in recent history. Can't believe LaSalle will remain a top 10 team in Ohio. No elite team should go 0-3 on PATS. The lack of a kicking game changed their approach late in the game and forced them to gamble. CBHS took full advantage of it. This year MUS is very good, especially on defense, but they are not an elite team, because their offense is too one dimensional (no consistent rushing) and their receivers drop too many on the money passes. CBHS has an excellent dual threat QB in Voss. Their pass defense is suspect. Both teams have excellent kicking games. Should be an interesting match up in late October. Unfortunately MUS may have lost their linebacker "anchor" on defense. He went out with an apparent more than casual knee injury in the 2nd half of the USP game. Big loss if that is the case.
  7. CBHS has already lost by 35 points to one of the best teams in Missouri. Don't know why we should expect a markedly different result playing one of the best teams in Ohio.
  8. I have absolutely zero issues with you KWC. I agree with you that "it is what it is" for whatever reasons and that is sad for TN HS football. I also agree that the better programs are not afraid of playing anybody. But as you should know, that is NOT the opinion of one prolific poster on this site, who frequently insults both schools and fans alike. I was shocked to notice how long the MUS-Ridgeway rivalry, such a geographic natural, had languished - only 1 game between 1993 and 2014! Why I haven't a clue. I do remember that MUS has scrimmaged WH and either Ridgeway or WS for most of the last decade. BTW, Baylor not McCallie has been the dominant D2 team in Chattanooga for several years.
  9. It is JUVENILE, ARROGANT and CONDESCENDING to say that any team that does not play da Haven does so because they are AFRAID of losing to them. This is the equivalent to the playground taunt of CHICKEN. Most fans have NO clue why any 2 teams do or do not play each other. This talk about the right "profile" is pure speculative BS. I assume that good programs try to play other good programs, but usually it just doesn't happen for a multitude of possible reasons, most of which are com0pletely unknown to fans and have NOTHING to do with fear of losing a game.
  10. I have no idea whether they even want to play each other in the regular season, and I bet you don't either. They both may be perfectly content just to have the annual scrimmage. They certainly wouldn't do both. When Ridgeway and MJS weren't meeting in the regular season for a few years, they did scrimmage. When MUS suddenly lost their fear of losing to them and started playing again in the regular season, they had to find a new scrimmage partner (Trezevant?) MUS used to either scrimmage White Station or play a regular season game. (In fact, there were a few years when WS played both CBHS & MUS) But after beating the Spartans 4 years in a row from 2009-2012, which included their 6A state champions, MUS suddenly developed a fear of losing to them and now don't connect with them at all. Fortunately, CBHS still has no fear and continues to play them. BTW, now that the "fearless" Locastro is at Lausanne, are the Gryphons and Tigers going to meet up?
  11. Aren't you supposed to be a (post) college grad by now? Yet you continue to make arrogant juvenile posts sic "Ya'll are afraid to play us." Why pray tell would MUS (or any D2 AA team) be AFRAID to take a loss" to anybody? How does playing teams like South Panola, Fayetteville (AR), Olive Branch, and non league games against Ensworth support that assertion? Of course, it doesn't. Just more childish blather from you, unfortunately.
  12. This error has already been addressed in a previous post.
  13. Please......So MUS is AFRAID to play Whitehaven because they fear losing? So instead they play South Panoia every year. Really. As KWC explained civilly, Whitehaven really only has one or two "open" dates and they use one to play an OOS opponent, most recently Florence AL. For whatever reasons, these 2 teams scrimmage every year but don't meet in the regular season, and I'm sure it's not because either team is afraid of losing to the other. You are a complete jerk for saying so. I do recall that home & home. Thought it was further back then that. i recall the "Mud Bowl" played at Da Haven before you got your turf.
  14. Any reason why Whitehaven couldn't make the call to a D2 school? BTW my comment wasn't aimed at any particular school, or actually at just Memphis area 6A schools. For examples. Trezevant (2A) is the only TN public school on Ensworth's schedule. Brentwood Academy has ZERO. MBA has 3 - all noncompetitive - Nashville Pearl Cohn (4A), Memphis Melrose and Hamilton (both 3A). Baylor and McCallie play some Chattanooga schools but they too are all noncompetitive. Not sure about their classification. As far as the Memphis 6A schools, only one - White Station - plays a D2 AA team pretty much every year - CBHS now but formerly MUS. Moreover, only one perennially competitive program - Ridgeway - plays MUS every year. That's a natural, since they are across the street from each other and only 200 yards apart, and they played in the same league for many years before the Public-Private split. Since CBHS and MUS only have 3 league games, you would think they could hook up at least occasionally with some of the better public teams. I would hope that CBHS could do better than Fairley, Sheffield and Catholic (give me a break...) and MUS better than Kingsbury every year (nobody but some students and the parents of the players go to that one). Occasionally CBHS-Houston, MUS-Central, or MUS-Craigmont might be halfway competitive. What you don't see are the "Dandy Dozen" teams playing each other, although CBHS-Trezevant and MUS-East have occurred in the not too distant past. Briarcrest is so up and down that I don't include them, and St Benedict is frankly a joke, and surprisingly so, as it is a pretty large school. I guess all the Catholic jocks just go to CBHS.
  15. I seriously doubt that Ensworth or any Div II 2AA team would pass up the chance to play Whitehaven or anybody else. Look at the schedules that the DII teams play - the best teams in all the states bordering TN, plus Ohio and Missouri sometimes, routinely dot their schedules.
  16. I stand corrected. Don't follow 2A but I do follow the better Memphis teams. I seem to remember Trezevant playing higher than 2A in the past so I'm assuming they recently moved to 2A? I second everybody that have commended Trezevant and other Memphis schools (and especially Olive Branch who scheduled 2) that have the cojones to schedule a Div II AA team, who aren't afraid to take a loss if it will improve their team. Now that all the 6A teams make the playoffs, let's see how many of them step up.
  17. Trezevant was the best in 4A last year not 2A. Alcoa is the best of 3A. Want to discuss their ability to compete with a Division II team much less last year's Ensworth team? Brentwood Academy would be 1A or 2A if they were a public school. Think that size always matters? If you're a top team it doesn't matter.
  18. OK. What if? Have they? I don't know. This is why I almost never post on this blog anymore. You try to find some offense in almost everything people say that you disagree with. Let me spell it out more simply. Trezevant barely beat EHS last year. EHS is much better this year. Unless Trezevant also is much better (I don't know, maybe they are, but they lost to the only decent team they have played) then logically they should lose the rematch. This is not a "dig" on Trezevant. It's just my opinion. Just because Richardson is the "best player on the field" as you asserted on another blog doesn't mean Trezevant has an edge. It's a TEAM sport. One player is not going to beat a good team like Ensworth. I'm sure their coach (Ricky Bowers) has a plan to keep him from running wild.
  19. I really don't understand your response to my post. Care to actually state anything except "WOW" ???
  20. To those picking Trezevant over Ensworth, BHS in particular. Yes, Trezevant beat Ensworth 14-10 last year. The eventual 4A state champion beat the worst Ensworth team by far in its history, that finished FIFTH in their league DIVISION. I did not consider this much if any of an upset. Ensworth is much better this year. Last year's sophomore laden team is now a junior laden team. I believe I read they have 18 returning starters. They have one of the absolute best coaching staffs in the state, they are playing at home, and they will be motivated for payback. Admittedly, I have zero idea how this year's Trezevant team compares to last, but unless they are much better, they should lose this game, no matter how good Richardson is. But, hey, it's football, anything can happen, and I'll be watching the game and pulling for my hometown Bears. I just wouldn't b bet on them.
  21. Agreed. In games like this, I try to attend for at least the first half.
  22. Obviously if both teams bring their "A" game, then BA wins. I merely suggested that Baylor CAN beat BA if they play as well as they did last night AND they get some "cooperation" from BA, which history shows DOES happen all too often for BA.
  23. You obviously were not at the game. I think every one of those pass interference calls were for grabbing the receiver's jersey. and there were a lot of them. Two of them probably prevented MUS TDs as the defenders were beaten deep and the passes were on target. Smart play as it turned out, because both times MUS ended up not scoring. Several times the receiver wasn't just held up but actually got turned around. It was obvious from up in the stands. I guess the Baylor coach, who got Teed up, couldn't see it looking through 22 players at ground level. We were almost laughing in amazement because the calls were so obvious from where we were sitting. One of the commentators on the radio said it seemed to be a tactic they practiced because they were doing it so often.
  24. Baylor executed their offense near if not at perfection. Austin and Parker were the 2 best players on the field and almost unstoppable. After MUS lost their star and big play man Pickens at the end of the first half, their offense was impotent. If their offense executes at this level next week, and their defense can stop grabbing receivers by their jerseys, Baylor can definitely beat BA.
