  1. 2p - I am so sorry about the dogs. I will send a note to the General and ask her if anything changed. It could be that it was my son's fault, though. Even though he is a Fresh at MTSU this year, he still wanted to be a part of the team so he helped work the grill Fri. night!
  2. The "chef" happens to be a personal friend of mine so tell him I said to make you a "special" one just the way I like them. He knows who I am and knows I like mine a little dark on the outside!
  3. LOD, if you are referring to Oakland as the "one is open zoned" I would like to address that. If not, then I am clarifying for anyone else who felt, as I did, that you were. Regardless, no disrespect is intended by my post. Oakland was certified almost 2 years ago as an International Baccalaureate school. As such, it is open to all county students qualifying for the IB program. Oakland is allowed to recruit students for the IB program ONLY. I am not sure how that affects athletic eligibility of qualifying students. Oakland also has the lowest enrollment of the 4 Murfreesboro 6A schools and the 6 Rutherford County 6A schools. To help alleviate some of the overcrowding in the other area schools and to boost the enrollment, Oakland became an "open zone" school, which means any student living in the county may attend. I'm sure I have probably just opened a whole other can of worms but I felt the need to defend our school.
  4. OP, you are correct (as usual). Coach Doug Nickerson has Stage IV stomach cancer. I haven't gotten any updates this week but will let everyone know if I hear anything new!
  5. Can't wait to finally be on the home side! BTW, did anyone notice that Coach Nick made it to the sidelines against Siegel last Friday? Rumor has it that he will try to make a few more if he is strong enough. No wonder our players are so tough. Look at their example!
  6. OP, you make me sad when you mention Coach Moose. I miss him a ton and it just seems strange not seeing him on the sidelines. BTW, for you and 2P, last update I heard on Coach Nick was not great. Keep him and his family in your prayers.
  7. This is always a high intensity, high energy game. Oakland/Riverdale will always be the battle of the 'Boro but Oakland/Siegel is a grudge match of the highest order. Oakland 24 Siegel 3
  8. That's a brave call OP. Is it a heart call or a head call?
  9. Next up for Oakland is Wilson Central tomorrow (8/7/09) at WC. 2P - Latest update on Coach Nick is that he is having a hard time with the chemo and had to spend a whole day in the doctor's office last week getting fluids/iron. Continue to remember that family in prayer.
  10. Unfortunately, interest in this tournament has been slim and so it has been cancelled. We will try again in the spring (March, April or May). Check back for more updates later!
  11. The Oakland Band will be hosting their first ever 4-Man Golf Scramble on July 25th at Cedar Crest in Murfreesboro. You can find out more information (such as getting together a team or a hole sponsorship or other donations) at their website. www.oaklandband.org Hope to see you there!
  12. I can't speak to other schools but I can tell you for sure that Oakland is not a "richer" school. Our indoor facility was earned by hard-working alumni that practically went door-to-door begging for donations. They still have fundraisers all the time trying to pay it off. It was determination that put that building up not wealth.
  13. Thanks for correcting my stats! I have a birthday with a "0" coming up and so I'm just going to claim a senior moment! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> Know that Trevor is my prayers each day and let me know if you guys need anything!
  14. Do you honestly think that Oakland, 3-7 in '07, 4-6 in '06 and 2-8 in 05 & '04, was picked by ANYBODY to be in the playoffs in 2008? Oakland probably worked as hard if not harder to get to this point in the season and you just can't let it go that they actually outscored Franklin. I am sure that nobody on here would disagree with me in saying that neither team just slid into that game on Saturday by not working for it. Both teams very much deserved to be there and I have the utmost respect for both coaches that obviously were able to inspire their respective young men. Please stop belittling Oakland's incredible journey with your posts about how they were not the better team and that they didn't deserve to win. They did. It was amazing. Franklin has nothing to hang their head about, either. Can't wait until next year so we can do it all again!
  15. I would call neither him nor his teams classless. I know that after Brandon Messick suffered the hit last year at Smyrna that resulted in 2 broken vertebra in his neck that both Coach Shadowens and the young man that made the hit showed quite a bit of class to the entire Messick family.
  16. What I would like to know is if YOU watched the game. Oakland dominated the line of scrimmage and the time of possession. The only thing Franklin did effectively was to pass the ball and for some unkown reason they all but abandoned the passing game in the second half. Who exactly were you watching Franklin play on Sat. night? They might beat Oakland if we played another game tomorrow night or next week or 50 other times but the only one that counts is Sat., Dec. 6th at Floyd Stadium and they didn't beat anyone that night. Not even themselves. They played their hearts out and came up short. Give Oakland the credit they deserve just as most of their fans have given credit to Franklin for their fine season.
  17. On another board, I previously posted that I wouldn't discuss the extent of Trevor Hornsby's injury because it wasn't my place. His parents have asked me to update everyone with the real story now. In the first round of the playoffs against Warren County, Trevor completely tore his left ACL. The DNJ reported it as a season-ending injury the next day. His doctor braced him up and after missing only 1 game, he came back and kicked throughout the rest of the playoffs and in the championship game. He had surgery to replace the ACL yesterday morning and is doing very well right now. Please remember Trevor in your thoughts and prayers as he continues to recover. My son had the same surgery in Sept. and I know that this week will be pretty tough and painful for him. Nobody can say that this is not one tough kid! 2P, correct me if I am wrong, but I believe he missed one field goal attempt and the one PAT on Sat. even with a torn ACL!
  18. Congratulations to Hillsboro from your friends at Oakland! We really enjoyed tailgating next to you on Saturday. Hope to see you next year at the same place with the same results! BTW - that was still the best chicken I have ever put in my mouth! Thanks for sharing!!!!!!!
  19. Well said. I was in the stands crying last Friday. It was announced before the end of the game that no fans or students from either side would be allowed onto the field at the conclusion of the game. After a little bit of celebration by themselves, every single one of our young men came running to the stands to celebrate with their fans and families. This touched my heart and, I felt, showed the caliper of this team. Way to go Patriots.............now let's finish it!
  20. And just when I was going to thank you for coming to my defense! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  21. I think we all saw how well the wing-T worked for Oakland last year. Although I'm not a Blaze fan (for obvious reasons) I hate to hear that for them. When we went to it last year I heard from several different people that college recruiters HATE that offense and it is much harder to judge talent on a team that runs it. I know Riverdale used it quite successfully but how many of their players were recruited to D-1 schools?
  22. Do you honestly think Shadowens would leave after only 1 yr. at MTCS? It just doesn't make sense to me. I heard some of the same type crazy rumors last year when Oakland was looking for a new coach and the "truth" was pretty far off from the speculation. Just my opinion.
  23. I'm glad I wasn't the only one! I searched the Fox 17 website from top to bottom and couldn't find it. /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />
  24. We just got word today that tickets are $10.00 and are available at the school all this week. You may also purchase at the gate on Saturday. The school gets a higher cut if you purchase through them.
  25. I have a feeling the "World Famous Oakland Dogs" might taste even better in the parking lot of Floyd Stadium on Saturday.
