  1. Great article in the DNJ about Coach Nick and his battle with cancer. If you get a chance, check it out. I know he and his family also covet your prayers so continue to remember him at this point in his fight. Here is the link: http://www.dnj.com/article/20091120/SPORTS08/911200313/0/NEWS01/Kreager-Nickerson-has-plenty-of-fight-in-him
  2. I froze up last night about 9:30 or 9:45. Everything was going great up until that point and then it completely locked. First time in a while I've had that happen so I ran a deep scan last night after it came back up and seemed to have no system issues. Just FYI....
  3. PBD...totally off subject (sorry) but how is your son doing? He has been in my prayers. I work with the wife of one of the assistants but haven't caught her in the hall to get an update.
  4. 2P if I see you headed anywhere near that baseball field I will cut you off for the next 5 years!!! Seriously, look for the boosters. I think you will be excited when you see what we are stirring in our big pot this week. Cooking it all in the parking lot, too! Get there early and stay for the victory celebration after the game, too!
  5. As far as I know there will not be any dogs (hot or otherwise) at the Oakland tailgate. You never know what folks will show up with but we do not usually have them unless it is a planned "theme". I will let you know if anything changes, LOD. You are still welcome to stop by but to see what is in the pot, you have to wear red and sit on the visitor side!
  6. Lilcoach..you guys get on the road early Friday because it will be a packed house and we want all the "O" fans in the house!!! If you get there early look for the blue tent with a lot of red underneath and join the tailgate!! Go Patriots!!! Rumor has it that the water starts boiling at 3:30 or 4:00 under the tent. Bring extra tables if you got them!
  7. I don't think you are going to hear very much until after the playoffs are done. When Oakland went searching for their new head coach two years ago, things didn't really heat up until after the season was completely over for all schools.
  8. During camp one year, my son was riding his bicycle to practice when he was hit by a truck that was pulling onto the road from a subdivision. The paramedics called me because he was arguing with them that he couldn't go to the ER because he would be late to practice! I'm not saying that everyone needs to have THAT attitude but he was taught that he had a commitment and he needed to be there. My point is that we need to be showing that same commitment and our children will see it and respond to it.
  9. It takes as large a commitment from the parents as it does the students. We, as parents, need to be careful of what we say in front of our young men. If our players see us being critical, either publicly or in the car on the way home, they see that and respond to it. Believe it or not, or children still watch us and feed off of us even through their teen years. If you want to question a coach, do it out of earshot of his players. Yelling and deriding him in front of his players is only destroying the respect he has worked to earn from them. No program can succeed without a good support system, no matter the level of talent or coaching. When we begin in our homes to show our respect for and support of the program as a whole, including the coaches, then it will spill out onto the field, into the halls, and around the entire community. When we commit to our child to have him there on time for practice and pick him up on time afterwards, to work the concession stand, to sell program ads, to prepare weekend meals for coaches as they review tapes, etc., etc., etc. then the commitment level of our child to the team will increase. When we as parents stop placing blame and start taking responsibility our programs will flourish and our children will have learned a valuable lesson without us speaking a word. A losing program is not always the coaches' fault and replacing him is not always the answer. Look within the program as a whole before placing blame. Look within your own home and see if you have done enough to support him before calling for his head.
  10. I agree OP. I never expected that. Cookeville played much better than the score indicated. Our defense really stepped it up in the red zone. Thanks to the Cavs for some great hospitality! GO PATS!
  11. Make Murf happy and move the game to Middle? Or better yet have a big tailgating party in the rugby field? Get some temporary lighting, crank up some music, cook some food, offer shuttle rides to the ballfield, get some inflatables for the kids - what do ya think??? I think we could absolutely break some attendance records if they were able to move this one to Floyd! Let's start the petition right now.
  12. I agree with all who have stated that MJ's QB was the best they had seen all season. That kid had an arm like nobody's business and was deadly accurate. I was VERY impressed with his mobility, too. Our D Line has manhandled anyone all year that wanted to throw against us but he stood in there and was great under pressure all night long. Now for my biased vote.....Tim McAdoo! This is his 2nd consecutive nomination and he is quite deserving. Hope he can pull in the votes this year.
  13. It really makes my heart hurt to hear this happened anywhere. Do hope that all are safe and that they catch the cowards who did it.
  14. Did you go take a Zanax? Shut your pie hole fatmama Awww. There's the MJPride we have all come to know and loathe.
  15. more specifics please, remember I am from Rutherford Co, and probably not as smart as you are. I believe he was talking to me. He is still in denial so he wants me to double-check MY facts. I did and he is still a snob who will be sitting in his living room next Fri. while I am freezing my behind off in Cookeville!
  16. So you would agree that the personal foul call that set up MJHS's throws into the endzone was without a doubt the wrong call since there had not been a whistle blown yet? Just curious? And I don't know which call at the beginning you are talking about. Of course you don't. I tried to congatulate your team and some arrogant ones got on here after my quote and it is a shame for the very few that were gracious but the few our way out numbered by the "we are the greatest in the world" fans you have on here. Another point i'm trying to get you to understand is you have a good team and Rutherford counties have good teams but MJ could compete and win in Rutherford county. Usually #9 is automatic in the end zone. It just happened to be you alls night. If you go back and look through the posts, the only one on here talking trash has been you! Seems we let our kids do the talking for us. BTW, when players, coaches, cheerleaders, etc. met at midfield after the game for a group prayer, it was the most moving thing I believe I have witnessed on a football field. Both teams showed alot of class in that moment and we could all learn a lesson from them. Our parents have spent the last 2 years praying for ALL players, coaches, bands, cheerleaders, officials, and fans before every game. I truly believe it has made a difference. We are all closer for it and it shows. Thank you MJHS for a truly beautiful moment!
  17. Just double-checked with Ensworth and Riverdale fans and they said Oakland is definitely beatable. All you have to do is hang with with them for 4 quarters, tie it at the end and then beat them in OT on a gutsy call. See. I can be a smart aleck too!
  18. Can't let this one go without comment. In the 5 years prior to the 2008 season, Oakland won a combined total of 14 games. Last year, in his first season at Oakland, Tommy McDaniel came in and guided the Patriots to a 13 - 1 record and handed out Class 5A State Championship rings to all of his players. The fact that Murfreesboro schools has a million kids to choose from actually makes his accomplishment that much greater. You see, those million kids have 4 6A schools in Murfreesboro and 2 more 6A schools in the same county to choose from. I refuse to bash MJ for ANY reason. Your team has had an outstanding year and have posted a record to be proud of. However, whining because you think Murfreesboro is loaded with talent and slighting an outstanding coach, even if it is backhanded, is just petty and childish. I wish you the best of luck come Friday night. I hope your offense is up to the challenge they are about to receive. I hope our defense lives up to their potential. I hope you have a nice day.
  19. I don't profess to be a pro by any means but I got a new virus protection/firewall that was recommended to me by our IT guy at work. It is called Vypre and is sold by Sunbelt Security. I have cable internet and have had problems with every computer and laptop I have ever owned until I started running Vypre. In the last 4 months, very little has gotten through and what little has was caught and destroyed in our nightly deep scan. Just some food for thought!
  20. DEFINITELY Riverdale @ Oakland. Be there early, though. Expecting 8,000 to 10,000 for this cross-town rivalry and 7-AAA slugfest. Go Patriots!!!!!!!!
  21. 2P - I felt your pain. I may not have been here on these boards but I was working my tail off. For over 2 years there were about 4 families that did nearly all the work of the booster club. My son became so disillusioned and disgusted that he (along with the young men from 2 of the other families) didn't play his senior year and forfeited his chance for his ring. I was still there, working along the new crop of OEC members. And by the end of the season we had TONS of people wanting to help. Parents I had not seen in 4 years were suddenly interested in helping with the end of year banquet. Parents that had never been to a single OEC meeting much less participated in any functions decided that now they wanted their voices to be heard. I'm not here to toot my own horn. I'm just here to say, keep on fighting and keep on working for what you know is right. Your children see it and learn from it. I will always love Oakland football and hope to be a part of it for a long time. But I am also a band parent now. As hard as I threw myself into the OEC, you will now see me marching in as a chaperone with the band and supporting them in any way I can. It's the right thing to do and I wish more parents "got it". Bless all of you who support your teams no matter what their record. Keep on fighting!
  22. This just in.....Weinergate has been solved. As we suspected, wrong dogs were ordered and wrong man was operating the untensils (sorry, Son ). All will be corrected by Friday night so come !
  23. OK, friends. I am working on the hot dog situation. Email has been sent to the "General" (our nickname for our fearless concession stand leader)! On to more important stuff........Oakland over Riverdale for second year in a row!
  24. I don't know what was up with the dogs but I promise to find out for you guys! I also promise to tell my son (who is now a Fresh at MTSU) to stay OFF the grill. Not everyone likes their dogs "well done" like I do.
