  1. My Guess is it will happen starting at 16's for ASA. ASA is somewhat conservative and will do a little at a time and wait on 14's
  2. WOW!!! The Summit (New Complex in Chattanooga Area) is the nicest facility probably anywhere. Just had Grand Opening Friday. Would put right up there with about anywhere.
  3. I totally agree. Need to move now on this subject. My hope is that ASA will also do this at least at 16U but should be 14U as well. All other sanctioning bodies seem to be making the move. I know this is a HS thread but Metal cleats also for ASA 14U and up
  4. Cant agree more. Also congrats to Whitney Long and Jen Cena
  5. Have not heard anything but would love to see another TN team get the berth
  6. Mustangs get berth with a win against Lady Aces of Knoxville.
  7. But the BEST in TN not already qualified were there. It is not the quantity it is the quality.
  8. Many of the Chatt teams have qualified and keep in mind also that N GA market is also Chatt and because of ASA Rules if you have more N GA players than TN you must register GA which also hurts Chatt TN. It is kind of like saying Murfreesboro or Hendersonville or Dickson is not part of Nashville. This weekend there are additional Chatt teams playing in an ASA friendly in Chattanooga instead of playing in the qualifier to help prevent these teams from knocking another team from a berth which also includes a couple teams that qualified in Atlanta or "A" teams in North GA that are still working at a berth that are travelling to KY for a National qualifier the next weekend then playing in the ASA State in GA the following weekend. The teams from Atlanta pulled out of a USFA State in GA in an older age group to play the friendly in Chattanooga. If you allowed the NGA teams in TN ASA, the numbers in Chatt would be even greater which is another thing ASA needs to do is identify markets. Hoping this type of conversation will help with ASA in TN and be the premier organization in TN as it is in the larger markets in the country. But you have to agree if you go to any state the best teams in that State will be attending ASA Nationals when it is all said and done because you have to earn the trip by winning not just by attending. The other thing ASA has in place is Regional Nationals for those teams not qualifying this year can earn a berth for the following year so you are not locked out of some end of year tournament.
  9. FYI: The weekend of Hendersonville, Crook did not have a tourney except 12U only in Cookeville, so those teams that play USFA regularly played ASA because it was local. After that qualifier, those teams except a couple in each age came to Chattanooga for the next qualifier which means they were not willing to try to qualify unless it was at home. Keep in mind also the serious teams travel to qualify and the rest stay at home for the local tournament and also keep in mind the Nashville area is much larger in population than SE TN. which helps Ken. Ken does a good job and should be doing ASA but also knows the market and the market in Nashville is USFA for most teams because most do not know the value of playing the best in ASA. But again ASA is for the Elite teams especially older ages and most teams have trouble competing for those 4 berths available but never will till they expose their players to the best. Not a negative but truth. ASA does have to work on things especially marketing to keep up, such as awarding sites to "Owensboro" or Sioux falls etc...but overall in TN it is improving. If the Midstate (large population) can buy in then ASA will be in TN where GA, TX and Cal is. The other thing with ASA is that it is a National event not a regional and with economic times the way they are it is hard for some to travel west but to keep it as big as it is, this would be hard to change.
  10. Sluggerfest is not a qualifier!!! It is an exposure that is on the same weekend as the Dynamite which is a high end exposure where most of the top 16's go
  11. If NCAA decided that USFA was the place to be then the top teams in the State would play USFA and the remainder of the teams would find somewhere else to go play because the quality of play was too much for all these teams playing USFA now. Some of these teams playing USFA now can possibly play ASA (maybe not win all games but certainly get better by playing better competition just about every game not just the last 3-4 teams standing) but decide a beach vacation is what they really want. But also a berth to play USFA is guaranteed and if they do not do this they may not be able to play anything at the end of the year and they know it. Nothing wrong with that but look at the top teams in the Midstate area. Where are they playing this weekend?? ASA unless already qualified. ASA Needs to improve some things they do, not only locally but nationally but at least with ASA you for the most part will play full games not 3-4 innings because of the money and time limits. I believe ASA in TN is working on this as I think Larry Spear knows the game and ASA well and the Chattanooga area is doing well as well. ASA is not new to TN as it has always been the place to be especially in the 14U- 18U age groups. The 10U and 12U is what ASA needs to focus on. Keep in mind also that the number of berths available is due to registrations in ASA regardless of what level (A,B, C, Rec). This is where the midstate does not help itself. Chattanooga area registers a lot of teams regardless of level. With the population of Nashville, they should register more but do not. Also, the parks available in the Nashville area are 2nd class. This shouldn't be an argument just an understanding that each sanctioning body has its place, but if you want to play the best and focus on getting better and you have a capable team, give it your best with ASA. USFA is not Nationally recognized but for the most part when playing ASA you play against the best from each state and ASA is nationally recognized.
  12. Are they playing in the Chattanooga Qualifiers. Can not qualify without playing them unless attending qualifiers for a national berth open to all teams. One TN berth June 26 and then the State in July.
  13. While I agree about the timing of the tournament, it should never be on same weekend as HS State, however years ago when the Spring Fling was in Memphis, I remember the Memorial being at the same time because of finishing Spring Fling late night and driving all night to catch a Saturday game in Chattanooga. I remember the Eagles talking about that back then. This year, Some teams got late enough game time starts Saturday in Hendersonville that it did not affect their roster for their games which I thought was going to be the case for all teams but I believe that late game happened for two teams. Cruisers probably got hit hardest because of starting at 9AM with all pickup players they had to put on their roster. They did a great job coming out of loser bracket.
  14. Well, I have to say the umpires at Warner Park in the older divisions did a very good job. Not perfect but definately better than anything we saw at Drakes Creek although some at drakes Creek were ok as well. I believe the quality has improved at ASA in Chattanooga, but yes when it comes to the younger ages, the dregs are there because there are not many umpires of high quality in every region. The solution is and I am sure it costs ASA money is for a National qualifier bring in the best from each area. This way you will have consistency in all age groups. The young kids deserve to have better as well. They pay the same money and the quality of the game is very good. Heck there are teams from all parts of the state, bring in umps from all parts of the state. Now, the question is how do the newbies learn to become better umpires. Do this in non qualifying events and/ or use 3 man crews with the newbies working with two high quality umpires at a reduced price till they quote graduate from newbie status. We need young umpires in the game that want to learn. What we need to do is get rid of those horrible umpires that are older, dont care, past their prime and too out of shape to get in position to make the call. ASA is the best organization out there so practice what you preach and give these high quality teams what they pay for and that is a high quality event, umpires and facilities included. So ASA pay the out of town umps and pay for their hotel stay in a qualifier. At $300 for a tournament this should be the norm and also at $300 have the consistency of using the same ball every game. At $300 and being a qualifier there is no reason for ASA to not supply game balls and a 1 hr 30 time limit. It is crazy for a pitcher to have to use a K Master piece of junk ball with no seams and another brand as well. This makes everyone use the same ball in the same game and throughout the tournament. Now I will get off my soap box.
  15. I believe Force picked up their berth last weekend. Must of been a hangover Nashville Xplosion was still playing. Younger Fury was in driver seat How bout 10, 12, 16, 18
  16. Ms Moungar will make a difference there. She is a great coach and a great motivator.
  17. Ump does not need to address the fans but can send a warning to the coach to control his fans. Riverdale has always displayed poor sportsmanship which is a direct reflection of their coach
  18. At Drakes Creek Qualifier: (one berth to winner) In 10U, I know Frost Falcons 98 were in Finals but had to win twice but do not know how it ended and who received berth. (Only 4 teams) In 12U, TN Illusions were playing Warriors in finals In 14U, Chattanooga Force won berth. Would have to say favorites for remaining berths in TN are Fury 94, Nashville Cruisers, Fury 95 and Lady Aces of Knoxville plus Mustangs of N GA area. Also, White Lightning gave some teams a run for the money. In 16U, Three teams left playing and not sure of results were Team Worth (In drivers seat) Thunderbolts were playing the Nighthawks for spot in Finals. In 18U, Attack won tournament. Not sure of favorites in TN Who is coming to Chattanooga for another berth this weekend
  19. Unfortunately this is where umpire must step in if it affects the game. Just typical poor sportsmanship from Riverdale. Until someone takes control they will do this. Not a very classy group of fans.
  20. Unicoi has no prayer. Upper East TN is just way behind the rest of the state. Now if they ventured out a little to play Chattanooga, Nashville area teams with a lot of success, I would say put them on the map. Goodpasture has played and beat the best in AAA. I really believe the hitters are what the difference will be. But I guess that is why they play the game. just ask Riverdale. You only have to be better in one game to advance.
  21. Sometimes I guess you have to admit you are wrong, but Riverdale was the Shocker making it, but in a one game playoff funnier things have happened. Best 2 of 3, results may be different but it is what it is and good luck to both teams.
  22. You are somewhat right but good teams usually have 2 pitchers no matter the size and remember it is a team that advances not one pitcher. Besides, pitchers can pitch more than one game a day if necessary. Unlike baseball. How many teams that advanced to state have more than 1 pitcher?????? Still anything can happen in one game and best of 3 or double elimination regionals typically advance the best team.
