  1. Great points, all. Enjoy reading some football talk about THIS game. To add, Camden runs the ball 91 percent of the time. They average 272 yards on the ground per game. Milan's defense gives up 106 rushing yards per game. Something has to give, and the line matchup looks to be key. Easley has only attempted five passes this season in his backup role, completing two for 52 yards. It was last year, so lots of things are different - but Milan had 490 yards of offense last year at Camden. Just wondering how this year's Lion D compares to last. Three players (Blackburn 148, Plant 110, Jamison 104) have more than 100 tackles, and that's very impressive. Horton is a freshman linebacker at Bethel. Did he see much playing time this season? Best of luck to both teams. Go Bulldogs!
  2. Next week: Oakhaven (6-5) at Milan Congrats to Stewart County for their third consecutive winning season and playoff appearance. Best of luck to the senior Rebels in the future, and to Coach Holliday and his team.
  3. For fans of both teams: the game will be carried on 93.7 FM in Milan and online at victory937.com. Steve Hemann, Robert Lambert and Robin Cude have the action, beginning at 6 p.m. Following is the West Tennessee Scoreboard Show.
  4. Hope you guys know that Juice is not representative of most Milan (or West Tennessee) football fans. Congratulations to Goodpasture on another district championship and successful season. Our fingers are crossed for a semifinal rematch at Cougar Stadium. Best of luck to Coach Martin and a very classy program.
  5. Maybe a few, especially if they had to come to Milan. It doesn't matter though, except for our conversation on here. Most people, save for our Manassas or Camden friends, would agree that no team comes within three touchdowns of the Bulldogs until the semifinals. Most people would say Milan is the best team in rural West Tennessee, too. So it's fun to predict a game between Milan and Henry Co. or MUS and Whitehaven. My only hope is that all our teams play well in the postseason, stay healthy and enjoy the ride. And while teams west of the river have brought home just one gold ball in each of the past three seasons, let's win some more this year in Cookeville.
  6. Reeling this one back in with my top ten. 1) MUS 2) Whitehaven 3) Christian Brothers 4) White Station 5) Germantown 6) Mitchell 7) Henry Co. 8) Milan 9) Liberty Tech 10) ECS
  7. Just confirmed, the game WILL be played tonight at 7:00. It will be broadcast on WTKB FM 93.7 out of Milan with Steve Hemann, Robert Lambert and Robin Cude. You can also listen live online at victory937.com or milanhighsports.com.
  8. Crockett Co. has one of the most dependable kickers in Class AA. Senior Jose Dimas is 43-44 on extra point attempts and 3-4 on field goal tries, long of 39 yards. It's no secret that both teams like to run the football. 78 percent of Milan's offensive plays this year have been rushing, compared to 87 percent for the Cavaliers. Interestingly, the two quarterbacks have nearly identical completion rates (Ryan 60.6, Speaker 59.6) though Ryan has about 40 more attempts. On a wet field, lots of importance goes to what happens between the tackles.
  9. If you get technical, that was two trips ago in 2000. Crockett beat Milan, 24-14 in 2002. MHS scored about halfway through the 4th quarter to cut it to 17-14, but Pitts took the kickoff about 80 yards to the house to seal the school's first-ever win over the Bulldogs. Coach Pratt has won the last two over his alma mater, both in Alamo. We'll talk more about that one next week. Big one for Dyersburg tomorrow night at North Side. Looks like the Trojans could get into the playoffs with six wins, just speculation, but it's up to them for the next two weeks.
  10. Some stats for consideration, through seven games. Jobronski Gilbert, RB/DB, Sr, Milan 123 carries, 760 yards, 17 TD rushing; 31 tackles, 1 sack Jaron Toney, RB/DB, Sr, Alcoa 116 carries, 1118 yards, 25 TD rushing; 34 tackles, 2 sacks Avery Williamson, FB/LB, Sr, Milan 288 yards, 2 TD rushing; 3 catches, 35 yards, 1 TD receiving; 49 tackles, 1 INT Tyler Robinson, DE/TE, Sr, Alcoa 6 catches, 81 yards, 1 TD receiving; 31 tackles, 3 sacks

  12. Not ever, but the first time in 28 years. Last game was in the 1981 playoffs. Played a lot back in the day of the Big Ten Conference (1940-68), and Ripley pretty much owned the series as one of the region's best programs. But the Bulldogs HAVE put some hardware in the trophy case since then.
