  1. Yeah Ericson is a LB for MUS who has been out hurt all year. But dickinson is the stud LB who is probably the best LB in all the State. He signed with Illinois already but will most likely get offers from SEC schools before it is all over. The Caruthers kid plays Center for MUS and the East High Coach told me he was the best he has seen but not sure if he has any offers yet.

I am pretty sure that is Still playing Center for MUS. I think your contact got a little confused.

Also, Dickinson could not have singed as of yet. Committed yes, but not signed. I am not so sure that the SEC school are going to swoop in and offer late either. At this point, Illinois is his only offer.

I would move Still back on the OL list. Jordan Wilkins from SBA should be on it, bc that kid is a special athlete. Hard to put the trio from Briarcrest on there when they have yet to win a meaningful game. With putting 4 DB's on that list, Alex Dale of MUS is in contention. I agree with the early poster about MUS QB/P Baker for the Punter position. Kid has punted well.

  3. CB, if I'm not mistaken all five of these schools played in the Collierville Tournament and reports from schools from out of the area playing in that same Tournament, these five schools are the real thing with very good players. I have to take their and your word about the ratings.

I believe that 4 of them played in the C'ville Tourney. St. Agnes was in Huntsville with Hutch, Brentwood, Centennial, and Indy that weekend.

All solid teams, but I would have St. Agnes #1 because they have yet to lose in Memphis to my knowledge. Their win total is not accurately reflected in these rankings as they have played close to 30 games from my estimation. SAA, Collierville, and St. Benedict have by far played the toughest schedules of these 5 schools venturing to tournaments out of town.

  5. 5) private schools have the same problems. They just have more resources.

    1) Our school is comprised of approximately 250 girls from 9-12. The average public school in Memphis has 4x the number of girls to draw from.

    2) It is a sad misconception in this day and age to automatically assume that a family is wealthy or has greater financial means because they have a child in a private school.

  6. The fact that more club players go to school at private schools is more indicative of a public school system that has been and continues to be in constant decline. Houston and Collierville are in more affluent portions of the county and remain in the top tier of the public schools both in academics and athletics.

The assertion that Collierville and Houston don't get enough media attention is ludicrous. They command almost all the attention for public schools, as they should, because they are the only two public schools who wander outside of their horrid district games to face competitive opponents.

  7. Good luck with deciphering that..haha....it would not space out...

The crossover matched on Friday evening do not count towards pool play.

Saturday pools are broken into 8 pools of 5 teams. After that there are 4 brackets (Gold, Silver, Bronze, Cooper) however your bracket destination is pretty much determined by your play Friday night.

  9. This game was more about South Panola being really good than anything else. Their skill players were really, really good.

It looked like MUS must have been pretty banged up for this one. At one point, they were playing some young kids on defense (I assume bc of what appeared to be injuries) that were clearly overwhelmed.

The MUS O-Line is stout though. I thought they were fine against the SP DL, but the speed of the LB's and DB's negated any advantage they gained from the OL. Another bright spot for the Owls was the punter. He neutralized SP star athlete Brassell with some high some booming punts. he had to have averaged 45-50 yards a kick with good hang time to boot.

All in all, I still see MUS as the favorite in the West and a contender in D2, especially if they start to get healthy. I do not see another team in TN with as many high caliber athletes as SP put on the field tonight.

  10. (This is a re-post of my comments -- made on the Mississippi board:)

While I know that MUS is down this year (especially vs the run) and has fewer game-changers, I remain very hopeful that MUS' top-flight coaching staff will have figured out a way to slow down South Panola's freight-train of a running game and, as a result, keep this game respectable.

If MUS is considered to be down this year, I am sure there are a lot of coaches out there that still be envious of the Owls "down" status.

I agree that this will be a tough game for MUS to win, even tougher than last in my opinion. Win or lose this game, they are still going to be one of the favorites to compete for a state championship. It is easy to say a down year because they have set the bar so high for themselves the past two years. Anything less than that seems not up to par, but the reality is that they play such a loaded schedule that they could lose to a team like SP, and then still be the best team in D2 AA or the state even.

I have been trying to come up with a prediction for this game, but keep having a hard time. Talent usually wins out in the end, but the MUS consistently has defied that logic in the past. And that is not to say that MUS lacks talent, bc they definitely have some, especially on the OL, but SP churns out talented football players like its going out of style.

  11. Can someone explain the rules as to how a player is allowed to play for a team without sitting out a year after transferring? Under what conditions is this allowed?

    There are several ways.

    1) If the player changes schools that is over a certain mileage away (Somewhere between 40-50 miles)

    2) Parents divorce resulting in change of schools due to custody issues.

    3) Parent becomes the coach at the new school

    4) Certain hardships that are done on individual basis.

Otherwise, the player has to sit out Varsity contest for 1 calendar year from their last date of participation as a member of that team (i.e. practice, game, etc)

  12. I believe that there was a 10 minute video show or was at least available to referees on the matter.

I have a strong feeling that it is going to an issue somewhere along the line where a kid is held out at the discretion of an unqualified person. I guess the best bet will be to have a Athletic Trainer or Team Doctor on the sideline, but not all school have them or have them available for all girls soccer matches.

  13. Sept 4-5-6 Hendersonville - Brentwood - Franklin

Sep 17-18 Bearden - Notre Dame

I wasn't trying to be sarcastic. I watched both teams play. Perhaps one had a bad night and the other a good. All that said, 5-0 was based on what I saw, not a WAG.

    'm still waiting on yours?

    Fair enough.

I can't give you a score per say, but I think it will probably be a close game.

That said, Hutchison has two games to worry about this week first. Play ECS Tuesday night at Mike Rose Stadium as a precursor to the UM Men's game and then Thursday @ Houston.

Good luck on your upcoming schedule. That is a pretty solid 5 game stretch.

  14. I think that this will be a closer game than your guess represents. One of St Mary's top scorer is out and their strong center mid is still playing with her club team in AL....with that said, I am guessing it to be a 1 to 2 goal game.

Hutchison did lose their sweeper and starting forwards to graduation, but they still have a solid defensive team.

Thanks. I remember that young lady playing club last year until sometime in September. Actually, I think Hutchison was her first game back.

I got to see a little bit of BCS in the preseason. They looked pretty good from what little I saw. I know you all graduated some good players, so I am assuming that you are experiencing the youth movement as well?

  15. I seemed to have missed your wild guess

Maybe because I was looking for a real answer, not sarcasm.

I honestly do not know enough about St. Mary's to venture a guess. I know that they had improved last year, but I am unaware of their losses to graduation. I believe their top scorer or two are still there, but not sure.

Hutchison has talent, but its mostly young and they are still working in a new system under a new coach. Most are back or are due back from preseason injuries, so they are a little better off than they were just a week ago in that respect.

I am sure the field will play a factor to some degree. The turf will play faster and the bounces take some getting used too. That was something Hutchison learned in a hurry last year in the substate @ Father Ryan.

What games does Collierville have coming up? Any big ones?

  16. Well I guess no one liked my sarcastic answer.

Hutchison will be at the Sherry Ammons in Huntsville next week.

We will also be at the BIVT and I am sure that there will be a few others as well.

St. George's recently had a playday with Collierville, Hutchison, Briarcrest, Houston, and ECS in it. Benedict scrimmaged St. George's this week and Hutchison scrimmaged Harding. Not sure about St. Agnes, Arlington, Germantown, or any of the other usual suspects.
