  1. What offense and defense does the Trojans run? Why is the coach leaving? Returning players? Coaching staff? Could someone bring some of their own assistants in?

I believe that recently, they have ran a wide open passing offense. The coach, who is that AD and basketball coach as well was quoted as saying it was time to move on. He has been there for a long time. Most of his family has worked there although a couple of them went else where a year or two ago. Do not know much about players or coaches that will be retained.

  2. If Checkerboard was their coach, when she gets situated I hope she returns and posts. Hutch is a fine school, had a fine young team this year and will be competing in State the next few years if their players stay.

    I am not the coach.

  3. Thanks, if you get a final, please pass it along....DS2001

SBA wins 15-13 in the 5th

Now the interesting thing is to watch to see when this score gets on the scoreboard and by whom.

I dont find that interesting at all.

  4. What did MUS look like? Are they State Champion material?

Sorry I'm just now answering. MUS is probably one of the best HS football teams I've seen play. I'm young, only 21, but I've watched alot of good high school football teams in Tennessee and MUS is probably one of the best I've seen. I heard someone up behind me mention that QB Barry Brunetti might be the best QB out of Memphis in 20-25 years. He played with a pulled groin muscle the other night and still played extremely well. If you guys remember Pat White that played QB for West Virgina a couple of years ago....that's exactly the type of player Barry Brunetti is. The RB's are quick, strong, and got outside on almost every play. Supposedly, Christian Brothers had the best defense in Memphis going into last weeks game and MUS had the best offense in Memphis going into the game. After watching the game, MUS's offense and defense seemed to be better.

MUS was losing 14-10 at halftime. They scored 28 points in the first five minutes of the second half. The final score was 38-14.

CBHS had the best defense on paper. MUS has the best defense on the field. The Owls are very very good defensively, despite losing almost all of their D from last season. People look at their stats and think they are not all that great, but the truth is that they have played a stacked scheduled. If they had not played the South Panola's or Olive Branch's, their stats would look a lot better. Also, a lot of teams have scored a decent bit of those points and decent chunk of yardage late in the game after the starters are long gone and the game has long been over.

  5. Speaking on another issue about someone asking about MUS . . . well, my middle TN friends, those boys in Memphis can play football. They are the real deal, as some of our middle TN friends found out in the state championship game last year. I do know this, and that is they know how to play football in Mississippi, and MUS took it to two of their state's top ranked teams in Olive Branch and South Panola. Additionally, MUS showed it could beat somebody without their top star when Brunetti got injured early in a game and his owls still pulled out the victory. Maybe Ensworth and MUS are on a collision course - but Ensworth still has a lot to do to get there (while I suspect that MUS is already there). I don't know a soul at MUS, but they are the team to beat in Tennessee. I hope Ensworth and MUS meet . . . I hope we have two undefeated teams meeting in Cookeville. That would absolutely be an exciting atmosphere. I hope Cookeville is ready if that happens. But like I said, Ensworth has a lot to do still to get there. MUS will be there.

A couple of things that I noticed when watching MUS last week...

They change the pace with the RB's well. McBride is a heavy hitter with great speed (track champion last year). Almond is the scatback with some serious wheels who also plays WR and plays it well. Brunetti gives them a dangerous 3rd option to run, but I really think that the groin injury has made him a more dangerous power. It appeared to me that he looked more patient in the pocket since he was a little hampered.

CBHS did some good things early to slow them down, but the offense (especially with the help of the D) is capable of exploding at any moment. At one point, I believe they scored 2 TD's and accounted for well over 100 yards in a span of 3 offensive plays.

  6. I wonder if the SEC type schools consider him a "tweener". Either not big enough to be a power back, or fast (quick) enough to be a "scat" back at that level. All I do know is that he is the best I have seen so far this year, and I hope I don't see any that are better.

McBride from MUS is very good too. He missed some time this year early on with a shoulder injury, but has been really good since his return a few weeks ago. Little bigger and faster than Orleans. McBride won either the 100 or 200 last year and finished runner-up in the other.

I think that he flies a little under the radar because he gets fewer touches than Darkwa simply because MUS has options in Brunetti and another good RB/WR (another D1 talent) in Almond.

As of now, Almond and McBride have Army offers as well.

That could be one really good matchup in the State if it happens.

Brown from CBHS is a load. He is not a prolific back like the other mentioned here (recruited as a LB) but he as a big boy he can sure run and deliver punishment.

  7. Should be a good game but I have to go with the Owls. They are 4th in the league in total offense at 341 a game while the Brothers are next to last at 231. Both defenses are good with the Brothers 2nd in the league giving up 223 and the Owls 4th at 232. I think they have too many weapons for the Brothers.

Which is somewhat misleading considering they have played South Panola and Olive Branch, in addition to White Station who also played Olive Branch.

  8. St Agnes 3 to 0 over Hutchison tonight....secures the following seeding going into substate:

St Agnes with first round bye

    SBA with first round bye

Hutchison to play 7th seed from East/Middle - either Harpeth or Ensworth

Briarcrest to play 5th seed from East/Middle - either Brentwood Academy or Ensworth

BGA and Ensworth play tonight to determine 5th through 8th seeds from the East/Middle

Harpeth Hall is #7 regardless of the outcome of the game tonight.

  9. HERE ARE THE PAIRINGS FOR DIVISION II AA SUB-STATE MATCHES

    (no surprises)

THEY ARE TO BE PLAYED ON SATURDAY OCTOBER 24TH TIMES TBA

    ST AGNES @ BAYLOR

    HUTCHISON @ ST BENEDICT ---> Thursday @ 6 PM

    ENSWORTH @ BRIARCREST

    GPS @ FATHER RYAN 2:00pm

The winners advance to the Final Four in Murfreesboro. Go see your favorite local team, as these and D-II A will be the only High School games played on Saturday. These matches should prove to be as intense as the state as these are winner advances loser goes home matches.

    Good Luck to all.

  10. Hutchison went to Harpeth Hall and won in 3 today. Will take on St. Benedict later this week

Have not seen Baylor, but have seen everyone else. I think that Ryan and SBA are going to be hard to put out based on what I have seen. I think Ryan beat SBA a few weeks ago in straights.

I think that Briarcrest/Ensworth and Agnes/Baylor will be interesting matchups for the quarters. I think they are close enough that I would give the edge to the two home teams.

Until a D2 team beats Ryan, it is hard not to pick them.

  11. Saint Benedict - 1

    Hutchison - 1

    Briarcrest - 1

    Saint Agnes - 3

Hutchison ties the game on a PK taken by none other than the keeper with less than one minute left in the game.

Wow...that is too exciting. Is the keeper the typical designated PK taker?

First ever attempt to my knowledge. It was very nonchalant, and put in the top right corner. She seemed undaunted by the moment.

  12. I started this and would like to thank everyone for their assistance. Further, it makes me feel a little better to know I was not the only one completely confused. Now not to bash the TSSAA but does it seem like to anyone else that DII AA was an afterthought? How is it that we played an entire season with our coaches not knowing how the playoffs would be set up? I asked our coach and he confirmed that other coaches in the Middle/East also did not know the format going into the final two weeks of the season. To me it seems that a team entering a season should know before the season begins how the playoff will be set up and what format will be used. Or is it just me?

I think that the important thing to remember is that in the end, things have been made right. A lot of things changed this year with the realignment of some of the schools into the smaller D2 A Division.

To the best of my understanding, there were 2 issues at hand.

    1) The first was the schedule. This information was originally given out correctly, but a mistake on the TSSAA website made for the confusion.

    2) The second had to deal with Single vs. Double Elimination. My understanding is that the AD's/Coaches were under the impression that it was Double Elimination (at state final 4 level), while the TSSAA officials were thinking single elimination. In the end, it was the decision of the TSSAA director that it was in the best decision of the girls for there to be double elimination. I think the kicker here is that they would have been the only division with single elimination otherwise.

Again, this is to the best of my understanding...

Now, can anyone beat the official word and figure out the EAST/MIDDLE standings? :roflol:

  13. Good job CB...finally know the story!!!

by the way is G Whitis the funniest human being in the world?

Yeah, I do not think anyone exactly knows where the mix up came from. I am just glad that it is sorted out and that the Final Four will be a double elimination. Great choice by Childress to do what was in the best interest of the kids.

I do not know Whitis. I was long gone before he was at UT. I have heard great things though.

I know you threw out a Mid/East projection last week....do you think that is still fairly accurate? I know that they are using some sort of power rating to determine seeding on that side. I know that HH and BGA play again Tuesday. Just trying to get an idea of who we will play.

  14. This is so ridiculous, you's think the TSSAA could post something clean, my goodness we're talking about 12 teams...

I believe the top 4 seeds from both regions get a bye into the Sub-State game on the 24th.

Seeds 5-12 will play each other on the 17th and the winners will advance to the Sub State round on the 24th. The top 4 seeds will host these matches top from east top 2 from west, currently Father Ryan and Baylor in the east... I guess SBA and Briarcrest in the West

The winners of those 4 matches will comprise the "FINAL FOUR" and go to Murfreesboro for the defacto state championship. I understand it will be double elim but don't know for sure...

    Confirmed today!

    1st Round this weekend.

Quarters next weekend at host sites.

Final Four will play in a Double Elimination Bracket in the Boro.

  15. This is so ridiculous, you's think the TSSAA could post something clean, my goodness we're talking about 12 teams...

Here is my understanding of how this works...

There is no Mid-East Tournament ... this is for sure.

This is about as close to right as I know it to be right now. Then again, we have heard something different the last 3 days. The quoted above seemed to be the prevailing thought of some of the D2 AA coaches at the Mid TN Classic.

The TSSAA website still reflects something entirely different (as of earlier today).

My understanding is that the Final 4 will be Double Elimination with NO if necessary game.

The West is set: SBA, BCS, Agnes, Hutch (in that order).

  16. All I know for sure is the opening round and the quarter final matches are single elim. The final four matches are in Murfreesboro and the past two years have been double elim (don't I know it!) but not sure about this year. I will look into it!

    Today's update...

17th Middle/East Regional (still not confirmed)

24th First Round (You mentioned earlier about the split causing havoc with teams traveling. #4 West will travel, but this is the best scenario for all, at least as far as the school's agreed. You would be amazed at what was originally out there... )

28 - 30 QTRS, SEMIS, CHAMPIONSHIP heard today that the AA will be double elimination and the A will be single....this has not been confirmed yet.

All these changes have caused mass confusion, and nobody really seems to have an answer as to what will actually happen and as to why schools (at least West TN) schools have not been notified of the changes.
