  1. Please tell us what parents, fans, players that are getting 'paid' to win games... /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> /huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="huh.gif" /> And I always thought that coaches got paid to "teach" the game at the high school level. If they get paid to 'win', and yet don't 'win', does that mean that the taxpayers get a rebate? Or does that mean that about half of all coaches don't get paid? /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
  2. Hey, I love Monopoly and the idea of competitive Monopoly..... /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  3. Using your philosophy, the "kids" also deserve the best coaches. That would be paramount as the coaching has much more to do with a "kids" development as a player and as a person... The kid's family and teammates would also seem to be much more instrumental for the player than the referees, in my opinion. Great or bad officiating, when compared to 'coaching' will not dictate whether a kid gets a college scholarship, no matter what kind of a picture you may want to paint. If a high school player can play, regardless of a questionable or missed call by a high school referee, will continue to be recruited. Keep in mind, in the big picture, fewer than 2% of all high school basketball players will ever be given a scholarship to play basketball in college. That means that 98% of high school players are playing to have "fun".... Sometimes that overwhelming statistic is lost in the discussion. Furthermore, even though basketball may be an avenue for the student-athlete to pursue in order to attend college, I don't fall for the excuse that 'sports' was the only way that a student could get a college education. There are plenty of opportunities for someone to achieve a college education without relying on an athletic scholarship. But back to the coaching, and the philosophy that so-called bad or weak officials should not referee..... Will we hold that same standard to the more important person that is primarily responsible for a student-athlete's development -- the coach? And if so, how do we judge? The win/loss record? Number of former student that received a college basketball scholarship? Just how do we do this?
  4. Let me guess......... Because it's still a "GAME", a kid's game at that, and it's not life or death. Did I win? /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />
  5. Can we come up with similar requirements for coaches and players, clock operators and scorekeepers, cheerleaders and dance teams, or maybe the fans and Coach T posters? What's good for the goose is good for the gander.... /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> Or just refs because you simply don't like them? /huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="huh.gif" />
  6. One of the better posts....... /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> And I agree that there are great, good, average, and poor when it comes to referees.. The same is true of players and coaches.... And I also recognize that issues outside the gym can and will affect everyone from time to time, including refs, players, and coaches ---- and even some of us dumb ole fans...... /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" /> Again, I commend the post from 'T2S2A'. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  7. I know without doubt that the 'Coach T' poster with the 'Melton07' handle is not the person that assigns referees to V. B. Co., OR any other school. You, like a few others, have been fooled into thinking that 'Melton07' is in fact, Ken or Bill Melton. It isn't.... Not even close. There are rumors as to who 'Melton07' is, but I will not go there. Bottom line, it is not who the name implies it to be. I'm sure that if the coaches at your school are having officiating issues, they will contact the "real" Melton for some type of resolve.
