  1. I promise the first thing I thought when reading G's post that the board has been "slow" this year is due to the lack of posters such as the infamous easttnref. I honestly mean that. The board needs a devil's advocate of sorts. Other than a few (VERY few) topics, most have been a love-fest, haha. I guess I would just like to see a little less love and a little more hardcore debating (gloves on of course). I've been frequenting the boards pretty regularly this year, but haven't chimed in much due to my lack of connections with the Seymour team this year, and thus my overall disconnect with the high school game in general. I guess I just don't like commenting for the sake of commenting or making an uninformed post. I also think that the new district classifications has hurt the high school soccer community as a whole. Traditional rivalries have lost some of their luster, and districts like the DOD are unfair to all involved. With that said, I hope to make it to a few of the post season games to check out what I've been missing.
  2. This is a game I'd really like to see! Unfortunately I've promised the fiance we'd go to Sundown tonight. I look forward to seeing the result. How is your team injury-wise, G?
  3. Is it that time of year again already? Excellent write-up dins! From the looks of things, Alcoa will definitely be a contender again this year, but with a coach like akula at the helm I suppose that's to be expected. He's definitely built an excellent program over there in Blount County. I'll have to try and catch a game or two. Any word on the Seymour team so far with regards to scrimmages/games? I feel a little disconnected with Coach Norwood's move to Sevier County.
  4. Wow! Heck of an accomplishment, akula, and most definitely well-deserved!
  5. Thought you were going to keep me posted with texts?!?! My bad G. I put the wrong number in my phone. The first two text updates (goal for Seymour with answer from Sevier County) I tried to send were good ones, too, so I was definitely upset when I realized you wouldn't be getting any play by play.
  6. It was definitely a well-deserved win for the Lady Eagles. The first half ended 2 all and the score is pretty indicative of the level of play for the majority of the half. Possession was probably 55 to 45 in Seymour's favor which was helped out a lot by their domination of the last 5 to 10 minutes of the half. The second half was ALL Seymour. Sevier County just couldn't get anything going. It was very obvious that Seymour wanted the win more and they got it. Overall, it was a very clean game and both teams and the referee should be commended for that with all of the buildup prior to the opening whistle. Good luck to both teams in the rest of your seasons.
  7. *The game has been rescheduled for tomorrow night, Friday at 5:30 at SCHS' complex, due to field flooding. Excellent question, os3! I have seen as many of their games as I have Sevier County's, absolutely NONE, lol. I do, however, follow both teams' progress through articles in the Seymour Herald and Mountain Press. I also have sources that follow each individual team and update me on scores, progress, level of play, etc. My prediction was formulated solely on opinion developed from a combination of the aforementioned resources combined with other information accumulated from the past and present of both teams. I now live and teach in Knox County so unfortunately I'm unable to attend games like I wish I was able to. With that said, I'm no expert on these two teams nor girls' soccer as a whole. I do have a general knowledge of the talent level and team dynamics of BOTH teams. The original poster asked for a prediction for the game, and I gave mine with supporting reasons. It was not my intention to put down either program and don't believe my posts suggest that.
  8. I remember that you were coaching, but don't remember the locking in, lol. Was that the home game from my senior year? Coach J is the best coach I've ever played under. Hopefully I'll get an opportunity to work with him one day. My apologies to everyone else in the thread for getting slightly off topic . Where are the Sevier County supporters on here? On that note, where are the predictions? I don't expect SS5 to post one because of his close involvement with the program, but no one else that I know of has a valid reason not to stick out their necks and pick a winner. I'll take the heat if I'm wrong with mine and congratulate the Lady Eagles if they can pull it out. I'm amped about the game and would love some good natured debate on people's opinions of the outcome.
  9. HAHAHAHA! That last sentence has me rolling. I guess he's got you there, akula. I'm pretty sure that statement would hold true for Sherrod after what he did to my Seymour boys last year. Is the season still going? I'd like to come "play" sometime if not. I'm beyond what you might call out of shape so keeper and possibly forward would be the only positions that I could play without inevitably dying. I'm rather fond of life for the most part and despise vomitting so I can only promise one minute intervals of mediocre "hustle". PM me if you get a chance, G, and if nothing else I can be a warm bodied obstacle somewhere on the pitch.
  10. HAHA, thanks SS5. And no sir, no recollection of that incident. I was 7 at the time so I was probably playing football in the mud pretending to be one of the big boys. And it's a good thing it wasn't me in that position on the bottom of the pile because let's just say water and I aren't the best of friends. Coach Norwood and Gephart can vouch for me on that one. The main thing fueling my hatred for rainy games in any sport is the '99-'00 State Semi game against Portland in football. It's one of those coulda, shoulda, woulda things that honestly eats at me to this day. Our no huddle, shotgun, spread offense wasn't made for playing on a 100 yard mud puddle. Heck, you never know, we could have lost by 40 if it was a dry field, but I'd give an ear and a leg to find out. It's a prime example of how rain and style of play can work for or against you. I hope to see you at the game SS5. Once again, good luck to both teams. The atmosphere should be electric, rain or shine.
  11. I haven't checked in too often as of late but figured with this game coming up I would see what all was being said. I hate that I missed whatever got deleted, simply because I'm sure it was derogatory in one way or another, and I enjoy the added "drama" if you will that it adds to the game (as if this one needs any extra). Nevertheless, I can't wait to see how this one plays out. I'm from Seymour, born and raised, and have just about as much school spirit as an alumnus can have. On the other hand, the Sevier County coaches are two of my best friends (they're in my wedding party), and have been since elementary school. With that dilemma expressed, I'm going to state my opinion in the least biased manner I can muster. First off, I absolutely HATE that it's most likely going to rain. I know both teams have to deal with it, yada, yada, yada, but I feel that rain is the great equalizer and more than a few undeserving teams have squeaked out wins based solely on hustle and a few lucky breaks. Now, don't get me wrong, hustle and lucky breaks play a large factor in every game (hustle especially), but what I consider the beauty of the game is negated by rain-soaked fields. I'm more prepared to see mud wrestling than soccer I guess you could say. Despite the unbelievable heart, determination, and grit that the Seymour team will undoubtedly display, I say Sevier County wins by a goal, possibly two. I think Seymour's girls could quite possibly come out TOO emotionally charged. I mean no disrespect by this comment, but I also don't think Seymour's coaching staff will come out with anywhere near the level of game plan that SC's will, largely due to the difference in years of coaching experience. It also bothers me that every time I read an article on Seymour girls' soccer this year, the "tough" schedule left by the previous coaching staff seems to be used as a crutch. To me, if you want to win championships you have to play championship level competition. If you want a high win percentage, schedule all the cupcake teams you'd like, just don't expect to play very long in the postseason. OK, hopefully no one has been offended, as I tried to state my thoughts in the most positive ways possible. If something comes across as overly harsh or critical, my apologies. Good luck to both teams, and I hope to see a good, clean, close matchup tomorrow night.
  12. If anyone knows the final, please post. Also, how did the Seymour team look BigG? I know CAK is always loaded, but I believe Seymour has the talent to compete at a high level once again this year. Did you notice a big difference in playing style with regards to the new coach versus the previous years with Coach Norwood? Wbcsoccerstud, where's the Sevier County scrimmage updates?
  13. It's sad that these coaches can't take a few minutes of their time to get their players the recognition they deserve. While awards don't mean anything on the playing field, the players still deserve the extra payoff of a prestigious honor such as this for their continual hardwork. Thank you to the coaches that did vote, as being an advocate for your players is an integral part of being a competent coach.
