  1. A nice win indeed! Congrats to akula and the Alcoa boys. Great start to a good tournament. Thanks for the update, G.
  2. I'm sorry, I guess I missed the heading that said this was a AAA message board only. Do you know the beauty of forums like these? If you don't want to read something you don't have to. When you see a post from myself or 2 or 3 other posters on here, there's a good probability that we are going to be talking about Seymour. I can't speak for the others, but for me, it's because that's the team I support and know the most about to take part in an informed discussion regarding. If you feel whatever team you like isn't being well represented enough on the board, invite more fans to come and join in. I'm sure everyone on CoachT would be happy to have more in depth analysis or conversations with supporters of teams that might not get mentioned as "often" as you feel Seymour is. Luckily, Seymour soccer is being talked about. That means they must be doing something right with their program. Start your own thread about your program, comment more often with specifics about them, just don't knock others for doing so for their team.
  3. Bitter much? /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" />
  4. I meant to tell you it was nice meeting you at the scrimmage. My girlfriend said my introduction made me sound like a creeper. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  5. Hey Coach, I edited your post. I didn't want anybody getting confused. HAHA. Jokes aside, based only on Gibbs' team history, I will say Seymour 5-0. If Seymour's offense can put up the numbers they're capable of, and the defense works together, I feel Seymour can win rather easily. They'll have to eliminate the mistakes and improve on first-touches which I felt they struggled with at times in the Bearden scrimmage. Good luck tonight fellas!
  6. Wow Coach, looks to be a great tournament! I always love to see teams unafraid of stiff competition. Good luck in the tourney. Will you be posting updates? /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

    Gibbs?

My bad. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> I'm either still asleep or wishing it was closer to summer.

    Gibbs?

I can't tell you any results, but their schedule is posted on the school website, gibbshs.knoxschools.org. If you click on athletics in the left navigation menu, then click on boys soccer, and finally click on the calendar on the right side of the next screen it has the games posted. I'll list off the games for this month to save you some time: 3/11 @ Sweetwater 3/12 @ Seymour 3/24 @ Fulton 3/26 vs A-E 3/31 vs Union County There's no time listed for the Sweetwater game and the others vary.

Thanks for the clarification balboa. Dionysus, I appreciate the info on the Bearden team.
  10. Seymour 9 Harriman 0 Played everyone including JV guys. Versus Gibbs at Seymour 7 o'clock Thursday, District game. That's all I've got at the moment.
  11. Pseudo, one of the most thorough and insightful posts I've read on the board. Thanks and I hope you'll come back and post more often.
  12. I don't know about any club teams looking, but I love the screen name. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

I respectfully disagree. While the Bearden scrimmage was a THUMPING, Seymour is much better than the showing that night. Bearden was dominant in all facets of the game as the score emphatically depicts, however Seymour was down three men: their biggest offensive threat, a talented attacking mid, and a senior backup defenseman. I am not trying to take away anything from the Bearden team because they have great talent and played with class, but Seymour's team has nowhere near their depth and the absence of these players was crippling. I suppose I would liken it to a martial artist with a broken finger on each hand. He can still throw punches and defend, but his effectiveness will be greatly diminished. His mindset going into the fight would also be much different than if he was fighting at full health. I think the Seymour kids went into the game thinking they didn't have a chance and after the first two back-to-back goals, their fate was cemented. I'm not saying Seymour would have won had those players been there because I really don't think they would have, but I know they would have had a much better showing. They play Maryville a week from today, Tuesday, that I feel will be at least equal of an opponent as Bearden. If they get a similar beating from the Rebels then I will agree with your statement, but I don't think that will be the case. My apologies for writing an essay, but I guess that's my style. Hopefully I don't talk too much on here. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" />
  14. That's great G! I'm sure the kids will love it not only for the location, but also the rewarding mission work. As for the sand soccer, I don't doubt that the scenery could be somewhat distracting. /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />
  15. Oh I see. I teach for Knox County so I'm off for Spring Break as well next week. I'm glad because that will give me a chance to see the Seymour vs Maryville game next Tuesday. I'm 27, but I'm an old man when it comes to getting to bed on weeknights. I've got faith that this showing will be much better than the one against Bearden. Are you training in town or in Florida?
  16. HAHA no worries man. Try talking and then losing 11-0. I think that would be a bit different later in the season but humbling, nevertheless. I'm sure South Doyle will surprise a few teams this year, just maybe not Farragut. I like the positive attitude, and I'm sure this game will only help SD on down the line.
  17. Sounds like a great game. I wish I could have made it to that one. Who do ya'll have this week G? If it's already posted I apologize, must have missed it.
  18. Ya'll be easy on me haha. That was an old-fashioned butt whoopin'. I just stayed for the first half of the scrimmage, and Bearden was dominant. It was 6-0 at half. I believe Bearden's first goal came about 1 minutes in off a nice shot just outside the 18. It looked defendable, but the Seymour keeper couldn't get to it. It seemed like Seymour hung their heads a little after that one and another goal followed quickly (probably within the next minute). Talent-wise, Bearden was far superior and played with a ton of offensive pressure. Seymour had about 4 or 5 shots in the first half, but none were good looks. Seymour definitely missed the two starters, one a forward and one an attacking mid. There was some incontinuity in the offense, and I think some of that can be attributed to a few players being moved to different position to try and fill the gaps. The rest was caused by Bearden's pressure lol. Seymour is a young team with definite room for improvement, but I believe they will be a force come tournament time. Sportsmanship was great on both sides during the half I observed. While 11-0 is a tough pill to swallow, I believe the Seymour squad learned a lot and it was definitely a helpful building block for the season. Good luck to Bearden as you begin your season next week.
  19. Congratulations akula, nice win against a quality team.

    Flu

A Knox County elementary school had 23 staff out today. I heard they were talking about canceling schools here as well. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. haha
  21. I agree 100%. Berean being able to put together a quality team out of a pool of 50 male students is quite amazing! I hold everyone on this board in high regard and don't take any comments on here to heart. For one, I know message boards comments can come across much differently than intended. Secondly, I realize we are all passionate about our teams and about the sport so it's almost inevitable that debates will get heated occasionally. As for the physical play of Seymour, I don't get to go as many of the games as I used to because I live about 45 minutes away now, but I can assure you that Seymour's coaches don't tell their players to go out and play dirty. They definitely encourage physical play, but I don't fault them for that in the least. These players are still adolescents so an occasional, accidental, use of excessive force in a high speed game is to be expected, and if a player were to make a dirty foul, I'm confident Coach Norwood would deal with them accordingly. Good luck to Berean and all the teams in the district. I'm excited as heck to watch some of these games and see how the season plays out. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  22. /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" /> I don't have a lot of firsthand knowledge of the Seymour/Berean matchup, but after talking with some of the Seymour players last night they seemed to be impressed with the skill level of Berean from the indoor game. It wasn't a lengthy discussion, but a couple of them made complimentary comments. Just food for thought.
  23. I'm a former player. I graduated in 2000, and I grew up with Bobby and Cory. I think your insight far outweighs any I may have. I truly enjoy reading your thoughts on the district, and I look forward to contributing more of my own as I become re-acquainted with area soccer. I've been out of the mix, if you will, for a while but have always loved the game and enjoy discussing high school athletics, especially when two of my best friends are involved. No, not at all. I'm simply stating that it's unfortunate that both teams won't be full strength lol. You've got to understand a few things: as I'm sure is the case with most on this board, I live for competition. I also played at a time when Bearden seemed untouchable, especially for a rural school like Seymour. I honestly feel like Seymour has a chance at winning, it's just not as likely losing two key players and a senior role player. You'd be kidding yourself if you thought that Seymour has the kind of depth that a Bearden has and that these missing players should be irrelevant. I realize that Bearden might be missing key players as well. I can't speak for them. I was just relaying information that I know to be accurate as a point of discussion. If the shoe was on the other foot and a Bearden fan posted on here saying they would not be at full strength I would be equally disappointed. As bad as I want to see my team win, I want both teams to be of equal footing. As I stated earlier, I'll be there either way supporting my boys and hope you do the same.
  24. Just got some bad news for Seymour regarding the Bearden scrimmage on Friday. They're going to be without two key starters, one to a chorus trip and one on a church trip. They'll likely be losing a senior that's a backup as well, that comes in a plays quality minutes. It disappoints me because I wanted to see both teams at full strength. Either way I'll be there with bells on lol. I'll let ya'll know if I hear anything else about the senior.
  25. I believe a lot of people will view the Oak Ridge win, while convincing, as a fluke or assume that OR is having a down year etc. If Seymour plays with and/or beats Bearden, I think that will add a great deal of credibility to the argument that Seymour should be considered one of the top teams in the area.
