I fully intended to head on back to Nashville after that awesome girls final, however at the last minutes i decided to stay and watch the start of the boys game because i wanted to see if Lewisburg could shoot again like they did against CPA. I ended up staying the whole night. All i have to say is WOW. Now that is high school basketball. On one side, you had one of the better perimeter shooting teams in the state (perhaps the best??) and on the other side you had one of the best fundamental teams in the state. Great offense against solid defense. The first half lipscomb did a good job of defending the outside shot by getting a hand in the face nearly every time. In the 3rd Qtr however, it looked to me like fatigue caught up to the Lipscomb defense....they were getting slower in fighting through sceens and allowing Lewisburg to get open looks...and Lewisburg does not miss open looks. You could feel that momentum had shifted, but still i was surprised to look at the scoreboard at the end of the 3rd quarter and see Lewisburg up by 20. At that point I thought the game was over. Lipscomb didnt seem to have an answer, their legs were tired and their shoulders drooped a little bit. I dont know who the red head kid from Lipscomb is, but he was the difference in the game. When he came in early in the 4th qtr, he totally changed the flow of the game during that furious rally. I dont think that he scored a lot of points, but he seemed to be everywhere on defense and the Lipscomb point guard hit everything he threw up. I have to say....a 43 point 4th quarter as well as the suspense of double overtime....I will still be a girls basketball follower, but this classic was the most exciting game I've seen in quite a while.
