  1. The fact Coach Dugger had to sit out two games is a perfect example of what's wrong with the TSSAA. An overzealous official called two quick T's in a situation where neither was likely warranted, but the second was ABSURD! So much so the official later apologized to the coach and admitted he was wrong. Even under these circumstances, the school was fined and the coach had to serve the suspension. Admittedly, I do not know what the official's report to the TSSAA included. The sad thing is it likely doesn't matter the report said as the TSSAA is incapable of interjecting any common sense or discretion on any topic. (Ed. Note: you can likely gather from this post that I am NOT a fan of the T$$AA and you would be correct). That is all...
  2. Ron Barnett may be the absolute worst basketball official on the planet (or at least NE TN). That is all...
  3. There are a lot of dynamics at play here. First, EHS is not quite in form yet. Secondly, EHS will get everyone's best shot this year because they are defending state champs. Finally, EHS-HV is a rivalry game. This all culminated in a game closer than expected.
  4. The Lady Cyclones are still rough around the edges. They are not shooting the ball well overall as a team. Missing way too many chip shots around the basket and not playing championship level defense right now, particularly in the post. Hopefully this will improve in the next couple of weeks. If not, this team will not achieve the goals they have set for themselves.
  5. McGraw probably doesn't have access to this information, but Elizabethton (#14) beat Morristown West (#12) by 15 in a play day a few weeks ago.
  6. Whatever the reasons (and there are likely multiple) EHS didn't play SH for a while, to suggest Coach Dugger won't play good competition or challenge his players because he wants to look good is ridiculous. The schedule is largely defined by the district schedule. After that a home and away game with both Hampton (a long-time local rivalry) and SH are planned. The Lady Cyclones will participate in the Roundball at the Hall event. Other than that there are two tournaments, i.e. the local HV tournament and an invitational in SC with quality teams. By the way, the Lady Cyclones have played in the Dorman Tournament in SC (some of the best teams in NC, SC and GA) the past two seasons. To play nationally ranked teams typically requires getting into a tournament where these teams are playing. That is difficult for a school the size of EHS. This requires significant funds to finance these trips as well.
  7. Uncharacteristically, EHS was 13-27 from the line last night. The reason the girls didn't play SH when they were "at their best" is because the previous boys coaches didn't want to play. The AD would not schedule SH because of this. If you remember, the series was renewed last year when the SH girls were very good (likely would have made the state finals had the incident with Tartar not occurred).
  8. Overall, the Lady Cyclones looked pretty good for early season. They are still a little rough around the edges which is to be expected since three of their primary players joined practice late due to participation in fall sports. Nine players played a lot. They had a good mix of outside and inside offense. They played strictly half-court man to man defense. The score would have likely been worse if they had pressed. I don't know the individual stats, but I think the Marosites probably both scored double digits with balanced scoring from the other 7 that played, i.e. 4-8 points apiece. The subs played the last 3 minutes. There will likely be some up and down moments with this team this year, but on the nights they have it going, they will be fun to watch. When they shoot it well, they will be hard to beat!
  9. The Lady Cyclones opened the season yesterday with a win over Pigeon Forge (61-34 I think was the final) in a HOF game.
  10. If Click is Coach of the Year, then I'm an Airforce jet pilot...what a joke.
  11. Beat Rhea Co handily today to end the camp season.
  12. According to the JC Press, Hardin has taken the job again after a 3 year hiatus. This is a good move by the administration as he will restore discipline and stability within the program.
  13. Beat Cannon yesterday. Beat Clarkrange today but lost to Oakland. Uncharacteristically, missed 19 FTs against Oakland...
  14. Played well yesterday against Moore Co. and Creekwood, but apparently had a tough day today. Lost the first game of the summer to Blackman and then struggled against MLK.
  15. Played at Morristown West a few days last week. Will be at MTSU this week.
  16. The job is posted on the school website.
  17. Pretty good so far. They played at Bearden last week and won all their games.
  18. It will be interesting to see if the administration addresses this issue or buries their head in the sand.
  19. I am glad the season is over. It's sad for the seniors. But I'm pretty sure most, if not all, players and parents feel the same way.
  20. Makes sense. I assumed she was a senior last year since she was already committed for volleyball. With what they have returning, she makes them even a stronger contender.
  21. Great showing in the Tiny Day over the weekend. Overall, I thought the team played pretty well. I don't know what prompted it, but it seems the Coach had an epiphany. Too bad it is the last week of the season...
