  1. I just don't understand how you aren't ready to play a team that's won 3 of last 4 district titles! We play Clarkrange next and they will not be in a great mood after loosing, this year may just be one we need to focus on improvement and play for tournament. But I also don't think the season will be decided this week either. Wartburg might lose to Coalfield and we could still beat os I guess we will see
  2. I just wish we could stop making excuses refs, back court etc. Our kids need to understand you can't play defense and foul like we did and you can't miss layups and open shots! Wartburg deserves the win they were up by 20 at one point that's not refs that's us not playing to our abilities!
  3. I believe Wartburg looked like a team that is capable of winning the district for this reason, they didn't shoot very well (missed 15 free throws) and won by 11. We have enough talent to win 4A but have to figure Wartburg and OS out. As a side note Oneida boys are horrible!
  4. I don't think it makes us look very good to try to explain 3 dist championships in a row away. It makes us look small I believe. Great teams will win wherever they play, we should focus on becoming great again and drop anything that takes away from that goal! Or we will end up like our boys did. The system as it is is not great but I know we have won many games down there in tournaments and if we had not lost our cool we would have been district champs this season.
  5. I just don't think our issues with homecourt are the biggest thing we have to deal with in the tee pee. Playing at Wartburg shouldn't make us have 2 technical fouls. They were the difference in the game. It was a real shame. If those don't happen we don't lose!
  6. Yeah I get tired of it too. Lady Indians will play hard and Wartburg will do the same. It was two great games in the regular season down to the last second both times. I look forward to this game and have not one single problem going to play at wartburg. Anyone with a brain could see last night that with about 4:00 left the foul count was like 22-4 against wartburg and they were playing zone. Not much advantage there. We are coming to win on monday as i am sure the lady dogs are. I think these are the two best coaches in the district and two guys that have much respect between them going to be a good one.
  7. Here is my feeling bout this season. In A girls basketball you can win with great guards and no post, but you cant win with great post and no guards. The teams will finish in the order of their guard talent. Lets look at it. 1. O.S. - Ball and the two little girls are head and shoulders above others at their positions 2. Oneida - has the next best handlers and passers at the guard spots. I feel like all our girls are low with their dribble and unlike wartburg don't make the critical mistake. Wartburg would have been 2-0 vs. us if their guards hadn't made crucial late game mistakes. 3. Coalfield - Hamby has handled the ball much of the year and the other guards are more than ok 4. Wartburg- They don't have the ability to handle outside of one player. #2 is a turnover machine and they don't have anyone else to play that position. They look like they have done an ok job, but with guards they would be #1 now, without them they might miss the region. I echo jacketfan, when your best player isn't playing well you are in trouble. 5- Oakdale - guards are ok, but not great and that leaves them in this position. 6-7 nobody cares.
  8. From where I was sitting looked like Davis had the timeout and the guy on the baseline lifted his hand and pointed to the bench to signal a timeout and then the kids played a good 5 seconds past it. He granted a timeout and never blew his whistle. I think the t.o. was legit but poor mechanics on the refs part signaling it. Also, we were very lucky on the lane violation because watching on tv i didn't see anyone for Wartburg move. I really think that we have a chance to be a contender but Wartburg plays one of if not the best half court D man or zone in our district and if they get any offense at all going could be a problem still. I think you have O.S. finishing 1, Oneida 2, Coalfield 3, and Wartburg 4 and I think that's the teams that make the region. The longer the season goes the better it is for Wartburg given JD's ability to win in tournaments and for us I would hope we can play well enough in the 4a tourney to get opposite O.S. in the region. It's going to be fun. I also didn't like our boys coach complaining about where the tournament is being played! We are Oneida and It doesnt matter where we play we are going to be tough to beat!
  9. I am happy for the kids that made the team but i have got to question how the voters think! My question is how does a team from region 2A get a player on there that is off a 3-23 team and that region's MVP gets nothing? I'm an Oneida guy and really feel that we had players that were as good as some taken From where I come from teams that win get recognized. 3-23 is a bit of a reach. And I'm sorry you can't make an argument for strength of schedule when you have Harriman with a strength rank of 94 and a record of 3-23 Harriman was 3-23 this year! I think Summertown has a pretty good argument whoever voted on that shouldn't be allowed to vote anymore. Great player but if you go stat for stat our center probably has better numbers and she's only a soph.
  10. Just wanted to get the conversation started. Here is what I think about each team. 1. Oliver Springs - time for them to step back up after a really frustrating season. O.S. is #1 but not by much. 2. I'm stressed over this pick I'm saying Oneida but it could be Wartburg also. I think Oneida will be much better after a year with some consistency. They will play much faster and be better on paper than Wartburg. 3. I think they will be good and should be a good team. They lost 3 starters and will not replace them with the same type of players. Looks to me that they will need to change a ton of their way of playing to make up for it. I don't see them shooting 30 threes a game next year. 4. Oakdale - if Thompson is healthy 5. Coalfield - Hamby will be better able to carry the load after seeing how they need to play. but they still miss the region again. 6. Jellico - this is the year they climb out of the basement and secure the very attractive 6 spot 7. Sunbright - they will return to the bottom not much talent down there. Players to Watch 1. Stephens at Oneida - really good post and could be player of the year next season 2. Hamby at Coalfield - sound player and could be a college player if her team gets her noticed and they make a region. 3. Hamby at Wartburg - good looking soph. if she has a great year Wartburg could be back 4. Ball at Oliver Springs - Best PG in the district OS will go as far as she can take them 5. Thompson at Oakdale - Will she return to Region 2 MVP form following injury.
  11. The way Grace Christian is illegally recruiting kids in district 4A it seems to me that they will likely end up there. How a Christian School can openly cheat is beyond me. I personally saw their coach at the region tournament approach kids families and kids themselves from several area schools! They are just a plain dirty program!
  12. Wartburg is a very good team for our area. They beat people with their press and the fact that they are quicker and more athletic than the A teams in East Tn. You take that to the glass house and you had better have the best talent to win down there. The teams on that level press but they also run great half court stuff and can play half court defense. I think this loss will make wartburg more hungry next year. For their boys to get handled like that says something for West TN. Hopefully 2 teams from 4A can make it next year and have a more entertaining outcome!
  13. Wartburg played bad all year in the first quarter. I always felt the reason was 24's lack of urgency. I knew when they drew a big physical team it was over for them. Wartburg will be better in that department next year, but they will have serious problems with guards. What their middle school coach is sending up isn't the same kind of guards that I've seen J Davis produce throughout the years. Watching my kid play them this year in jv was really shocking. They couldn't dribble or pass. About one more group hit Wartburg like that and it's time to start thinking about who the new #1 is in 4A. Much has been made on here about how much the middle school coach helps the program, my sources say it's not all for the better. Wartburg's time on top may be up! Next year you've got to go with OS, Oneida, above everyone else!
  14. Thought they did well. we oneida won 19 games and could easily win 20-25 next year. It takes time to build a program. She will have the ladies where the boys are in a very short time. Our fan base needs to get behind her. If things are bad again next year I'll change my tune, but 19 wins is pretty good for a first year coach.
  15. I'm taking our excuses away right now. If we lose this one..... 1. It isn't because the game's location...We are Oneida not a bunch of cry babies like Sunbright or those other Morgan Co. Schools we don't care where we play we want the Trophy! 2. It isn't because of their silly 1/2 time shows (that by the way make me want to never put my money in that bank) 3. It isn't because the refs stink I don't want to hear these things from my tribe brethren following the game win or lose! We will win or lose based on our play and coaching! That is it! Oneida's Yaden has re-placed the oneida boys back on the high school map. The road to the boro will once again be influenced by the Tribe! I hear much negative talk in the stands but you must judge a tree by it's fruit and Yaden is in the substate and you can't argue that he has them in a better place than when he started out! Lets go get em boys and we can re-name the Dallas Reed Davis Gymnasium the Tee-Pee. Dallas Reed Davis Gym rule #1 Oneida historically has been Wartburg's Daddy and we will be again. Lets Get it ON!
  16. Wartburg will play close but i dont think they will win. My biggest reason for this is their post play that carried them for most of the season is now feeling the pressure. They have 2 very good freshmen but regional semifinals exposed their youth. They are getting valuable experience and could spin this into a very good future for the dogs. Our girls shouldve beat Tellico due to the fact of their coach finally getting them ready to play. I think if she comes around and learns to coach at this level we could be very good next year. Hopefully she will quit giving up on her team and the girls will buy in to what she wants. I will predict Tellico 42 Wartburg 32 Guards for wartburg are too turn over prone and that will be the difference.
  17. Yeah, I remember one year we had tournaments at ETSU and there was about 35 people in the stands for the championship game. It was like playing in a funeral home. If the tournament is rotated to Oneida I think that's ok but I don't see Jellico being able to host and do not think it makes sense for the rest of the district to go up there. Having the games at Wartburg doesn't bother me either. For years Oneida went down there and won titles. I don't think the Wartburg boys would have been in fewer championship games if the games were held somewhere else they are winning because they are good. I personally would rather see the games stay at wartburg over going to AC or RSCC. I also don't want to play at OS either. I'm an old school oneida guy and feel like we should win wherever the games are played and don't want to hear excuses about losing. The wartburg gym is as good as any to win a championship! We should try to host but shouldn't complain and make excuses for other teams success, we should work harder and maybe we could get back to what we should be #1
  18. I feel like the games at wartburg in the girls side went about like the regular season did. Congrats to Wartburg on a hard fought victory over oliver springs. I don't understand why our girls can't do to oakdale what the wartburg team did in the way of attacking the outside shooters. Why we would leave thompson open the better part of the first half is something i will never understand. I do think that we have a good young coach and she will get better but we have got to learn how to cover people on defense. I didn't see over 3 open shots in the champ game with os and wartburg battling it out. Those teams play DEFENSE! Oakdale and Oneida were in the consolation game because they don't play very much. Hope the region is better for our girls good luck to all 4A teams moving on
  19. As of now the two best from the regular season are meeting in the tournament championship. Wartburg is in an entire other league from Oakdale and the game wasn't close. Oliver Springs really squeaked one out over us tonight, but I feel like the two best teams and coaches are meeting. I really don't see why there is a debate at this point as to who the best coach is. All four of our region teams are represented well I really can't predict the finals because it's hard to see either team running away with it. Consolation game is hands down Oneida. Now for the refs, it was the worst night I can remember. They didn't belong out there. In the Wartburg, Oakdale game you had kilby being allowed to just plow her way to the goal and wartburg players checking oakdale's kids to the floor. Now I really believe that the two teams evened out due to them letting the player of the year walk and push off multiple times, but it made the game ugly. Our game was worse with actual punches being thrown and the refs doing nothing about it. Too much attitude and I can say OS is a very dirty team and they are encouraged to be that way. Refs let em get away with it so I suppose that's how it will be. If os is allowed to punch and pull hair like they did tonight I may give a small edge to them in the champ. Shame is we won't get to see who the best basketball team is, just the most brutish!
  20. Wartburg got more foul shots because we were fouling late in the game. They probably got 10-12 free throws late due to this. So, I dont think that made a big difference. All our posts do is try to block shots. Playermom is right! As long as we do that and don't play any zone defense we are going to foul! Wartburg runs that foreign defense and it keeps them out of trouble. Kudos to their players for coming back from down 12-14 points. We have played them tough 2 times, but I wonder how the game looks if they don't dig a hole early. We better bring our A game next time! I think Oneida has a great shot at the dist title, but that doesn't matter the region is where Oneida basketball has always been measured!
  21. Wartburg was the better team tonight! I believe that our boys are coached very well and will get better. Fact is we made too many mistakes and that has beat us! I think we will be fine in the tournaments! I give a lot of respect to Fountain. He is a great player and he killed us on the glass tonight. If we block out and limit turn overs we win. But we didn't and Wartburg Boys left with the W Shame on our student section for their display at the start of the boys game!
  22. I will have to say I didn't think that wartburg had what it took to play defense on us in the 1/2 court. Their D in the 4th is the best I've seen out of anyone we have played. They are not as soft as I thought and its going to be difficult for anyone to score on them if they improve in their press and stop the turnovers. I thought our girls played very hard and believe they will be a tough team to beat in tournaments as well. Wartburg or O.S. will win the reg season now. I can't pick between the two! Wartburg shot 30 % and hit about 50% from the line and beat us. They were one dimensional and still won on our floor! Fun game to watch though!
  23. If Wartburg plays the way they did in the first game Oneida will win by 10 or more. I was impressed with the way the lady dogs played in position and looked like they knew what they were doing, but they had no fight in them at all! I feel like if they play hard like I've grown used to seeing in tournaments they will win by 6-8. Oneida, Wartburg, and O.S. are about the same right now. Wartburg can't handle our post players and I believe that will be the difference.
  24. We played Wartburg early in the season and they were very tough and their little point really pressured our guards. I'm sorry to see she's hurt. #24 can't carry them, she's not very good in all honesty! I feel like they will be 4th behind O.S. , us, and Oakdale. Wartburg beats people with their guards and now they are down one that will hurt. As for the comments on the brutality that goes on at O.S. that is tradition and TSSAA will never do anything to stop it! Their student section is a black eye on the school
  25. How many really great players are there on a 3-9 team? Coalfield is 3 and 9! If you put jordan out there with 4 eighth graders they would be at worst a .500 ball club. This years Coalfield team isn't very good! I don't know who you are talking about, but I haven't seen anyone on that team that's D1 material. This season at Coalfield isn't on the coach either that lady has been to 2 state tournaments and won many games! Oneida by at least 20 points when they play
