  1. Get in touch with the school board and get someome in there that has some integrity then. Sad situation for those kids to have to go through this year after year. How many Head Coaching jobs did George Quarrels have before Maryville took a shot? Same old same old. Sad. But good luck and tell Holiday he can come to LA and work anytime he wants. We don't have good softball but food makes up for it.
  2. Holiday, you can come work for me anytime you want. Good luck MC and good luck Coach Jones. Bygones. (Is that spelled right?) Choice is made, so fire the Super or whoever is responsible for this hire if it does'nt work out. Either you struck out or you hit a homerun and lets just hope the kids get what THEY deserve and we are not having this same conversation 3 years away.
  3. Great Reply dc. Taking care of your young men should be the number one priority. However, not many people in MC land are as rational or honest as you are. Sad but true. Wish you nothing but the best, but I too am more rational than the average bear so my thoughts are not going to change about the future in Tiger town. This next year is lost because it took sooo long to hire and the other fans will be all over the situation and blame everyone but the person who did the hiring. I doubt I will eat my words but I will gladly eat a peice of humble pie if I a wrong. You have no chance of changing the fortunes for your future until you realize and reward loyalty and hard work. Remember the people that did not turn their back on the kids. Remember the people who had a chance to go other places and did not becasue that is their home and they love that place. I am an AD in Louisiana and the coaches that stuck by their kids through this disasterous process can work for me anytime they want. But I don;t expect them to turn their back on those kids the way the system turned their back on them. They are not that type of guys. Again, no ties to this program what-so-ever. Just hate the way it went down and would love to see this type of hiring process ended.... becasue it hurts everyone involved...and takes so long to overcome.
  4. I said last post that your community should get behind him. But your communtiy needs a coach with a thick skin as it will take some time to rebuild "Rome" and that is something that is foreign to those in Tiger country. I just do not think you will get the same support from the HC when and if he wins. He will be on to the "Only job I have ever wanted" and you will be back to square one. You are going to be back in the same sitation in 4 years. Max. You guys have proved it is an impossible place to keep good coaches. Am I wrong?
  5. You should support him. But he will not support you. Just telling the truth. I posted way before his name even came up and I do not know him at all, I just know his track record and it speaks for itself. And I know how you treat coaches down there and you derserve what you get when you do what you do. To get what you've never had, you must do things you've never done. And MC is fine with being middle of the pack and does not aspire to be anything but second fiddle and the homecoming queen. And feel free to give me an email an I will email you personally to let you know who I am and that I have no dog in the fight. I just hate it when good coaches show loyalty but don't get rewarded. But maybe that's why young coaches don't get a chance anymore...because the Suitcase Scotts and Rich Rods of the world tell everyone that "this is the only job I have ever wanted"....and then bolt when the talent dries up. Louis Thompson never did it, Boots Donnelly didn't do it, and I am pretty sure John Tucker had chance after chance to make more money and turned it down because of his character. Is that fair sir? Now I do not know this guys circimstances but you will never win state championships jumping jobs every 3 or 4 years. (Unless one of those jobs is Alcoa or say Maryville) Think my thoughts are fair and to the point. Loyalty means nothing anymore. Not in High School and not in college. Why would I ever want to continue in this profession that rewards "What have you done for me lately" over Character.
  6. Congrats Meigs County. You will be looking again for a HC in 3 years. Sad situation for those kids. Curt is a great coach, but like others before him, he has proven that he is ALWAYS looking for the next "big thing". You guys don't need that anymore. Loyalty means nothing to anyone in the administration as they see their school as "The Top Job" that these coaches PRETEND will be there last. I have said before and will say again, I have no dog in this fight, but how many times can you recycle coaches that give the same BS responses like a broken record? Loyalty means nothing to the people in charge and the parents should take notice of this. It is hard for a coach to preach to the kids about what it takes to win and all the work that must be done and to not live by the same standards i their own life. Only idiots really believe these coaches that continue to jump from job to job. So believe this: Curt will stay for three plus years if you have any success. LOL HE WILL BE THE FIRST OUT OF TOWN AND THIS PROCESS WILL REPEAT ITSELF OVER AND OVER AGAIN. Practice what you preach and demand from your students and from athletics.
  7. Whistle, You made my point for me. Reward loyalty and you WON'Tbe looking for a coach in 5 years. Period. You cannot win if you are looking for a coach every couple of years. Longevity. As for the other guy who said Holiday interviewed: I have no idea if he did or not. But as long as other people are getting interviews and this whole process continues to go forward, can you blame him if he did? Short of Alcoa.... can you tell me another school, or head coach, that wins year after year? Loyalty, loyalty, loyalty. WB is paying the price for hiring the "up and comer" who changed jobs every 4 years and said "this is the only job I ever wanted". Instead of hiring the next Petrino or "suitcase"...I mean Saban. Reward those that have stuck with you so you won't being doing this same thing 3 years from now????? Show the kids that loyalty is rewarded and watch your program explode into the contender it should be year in and year out. Or just keep doing what you're doing and go thru this same process every couple of years. Loyalty, loyalty, loyalty.....
  8. Holiday. I am sure there are Coaches who have applied that are more qualified. But from the looks of your situation, your going to be looking for another one four years down the road that gets offered their "dream job". So reward a guy that has been nothing but loyal to you. He wants to stay there forever. Loyalty means more to me than anything else. You can't learn that character trait. Either you got it or you dont.
  9. I agree. Not always greener, but given the situation that those young men where faced with you would not make the same choice???? Loyalty wins all the time and when you are looking at a HC that has no loyalty then what do you do?? GR has my vote as being a loyal HC. And he does not coach by intimidation or tell someone after another that is his "perfect" job. Rankin has stood the test of time and he is a stand up guy... I do believe that WB now has a stand up guy too in DG, as Doctor Dave told us he was, so I will where my Blue and Orange and tell all alumns to do the same. You got what you had coming Sir. No more cancer and no more stepping stone HC's . They will all get what they deserve. SO beofre you start with this and that... Give me your phone number and name as I have done... or just cast stones but I am not calling ANYONE OUT KH......
  10. The future looks bright for the Govs. Good luck and Go Govs. I hope Brooks is moving back because he is one of the most dynamic kids I have seen in a while. I don't know how he does it but all he does is make game changing play after game changing play.
  11. Ricky Holliday would be an outstanding choice to lead that program. I have talked to him throuhout the years and know him personally. He is a great coach, loves the area and will work hard. I don't know anything about this past year, but he has been there for the last couple of coaching searches and stayed through all of them. THat shows dedication so reward that.
  12. Good to see the Govs get a W. Glad to see Hunter Sauders step up. I expect big things from him in the future. That kid is a winner and can flat play. Congrats again on a big win. Good luck against West.
  13. A couple of upsets through the years come to mind. 5-5 Dickson County beat Riverdale 10-0 Riverdale (around '99 0r 2000) in Round 1 of the playoffs and I don't know if this should be considered an upset seeing how they have faired in the playoffs, But DB seems to have it's problems in the first round with sub par teams also. Last year for example. Guess it is not an upset when you get the Nickname "First Round GR......" as it seems people have gotten used to beating them early.
  14. Govman, I was not even talking about the basketball program. Only the football program right now. My words were not directed towards you (or basketball) in any way. Sorry you took offense to them but re- read my post and had nothing to do with basketball. And i have no doubt that you know the whole story. My comments were directed at the whole recruiting thing. We both know why we lose kids and it has more to do with WB than it has to do with AHS or MHS. I think it is pretty clear that I have no opinion of any of the other sports at WB as I have not been involved with any of them and do not have children involved. Since this was in the football board section, I just assumed we were talking about just the football program. If I have a comment about the basketball programs or the HC's, then I will move to that board to discuss them. Hope that clears it up and sorry you misread my post and my intentions.
  15. Beaver Nation: Help is on the way. This past freshmen class was as good as any I have seen in East Tennessee. Outside of the ole Admirals, Karns has a decent class. QB was pretty elusive and they had several horses to man up the Defense. It takes time to change the whole programs attitude so give the HC some time and support to get it done. Changing coaches every 3 or 4 years is no way to build a program.
  16. No recruiting stuff. Those words never came out of my mouth and will never. Success breeds success and people want to be a part of that. I have stated before that I have friends on the Alcoa staff and wish WB would play them again. (And no way I would say that if I thought there was recruiting going on) We had 2 teams drop us the week before we played them (Freshmen) and the first call I made was to Nix at Alcoa. They came over and beat us, we shook hands and went on our way. Alcoa and Maryville are both stand up programs so lets not start with the recruiting BS. I love WB with all my heart but someone has to understand that kids leaving there has more to do with people at WB than it does with anything MHS or AHS does. Take care of your feeder programs and keep people around that love WB. Winning will take care of it's self after that. But no one wants to send their kid to a place where you don't know what you are going to get or for how long. Loyalty is a MAJOR component in the whole MHS machine. Those coaches respect each other and don't care who gets the credit. At other places, you have coaches that back stab and do what they can to get the spot light on them rather than the kids. Again, please stop the whole recruiting thing. If you know the whole story it is very easy to see what keeps happening and why. And it has nothing to do with any coach doing anything illegal. Rankin would not put up with it and neither would Quarles.
  17. Ouch. I love WB but that is funny. Yes AHS does owe us a lot, but maybe that door will be closed if Coach G sticks around and goes after our feeders and keeps the good coaches that want to be part of WB.
  18. I agree: High quality coaching and support go a long, long way. I only know a little about the "pee wee" feeders in Blount County so I don't know if the whole "benching" thing happened or not. If it did then that is ridiculous for an adult to act that way. But the way WB has treated their feeders is equally ridiculous. It is no wonder MHS and AHS have lots of WB kids in their programs. I just hope this is the last thread we have on the whole WB "coaching search" thing for the next 20 years. And like I said before, the treatment all the WB feeders gets....has to improve. Drop egos at the door and support those programs at every game and invite them to yours.
  19. Wow big pick up. Alex Robins is one of the best in the country. Could have left MTSU and went anywhere in the country. No better QB coach than him and an even better guy. He and Fiveash are 2 of the most loyal people I have ever met and I thank God that I had a chance to learn from them.
  20. And I guess we can add a #6 to the list: Keep people who love WB around the program. The only HC's who have ever shown any loyalty to the Gov Nation were the first two they ever had. One has the stadium named after him and one quit because he had Zero support from the administration.....then came back only to get hung out again because he was vocal and not a "yes" man. Here is my point: If you have 10 coaches on a staff and all 10 agree all the time, then 9 of them are not needed. There is more than one way to skin a cat and I love hearing about the others. Put EGOS aside. If you have a better way, then lets discuss it like adults and do what is best. --Don't cry and pout when it is not done your way. --And most of all, just have an opinion. --That is what coaches get payed for. They don't get paid to KISS the HC's tail and they don't get paid to CRY. Have an opinion and know that it is ok to disagree sometimes but you have to RESPECT the HC"s choice at the end and fight like heck to make it work. Not sure we were all on the same page with that this year!!!!
  21. Have heard several names and none are official I guess, Brooks and Dalton included. I hope Gregory fits the bill also, but again I say........ How many schools? In how many years? Loyalty, loyalty, loyalty...........Are we gonna be having this same conversation in 2 yrs, 4yrs, 6 yrs or 20 yrs from now? Track record? Track record? Track record?
  22. One more thing: I hope Brooks and Dalton stay put because they are both WONDERFUL kids.
  23. Govman, I have no knowledge of any feelings ,one way or the other, that those families have towards the coaching staff at WB. I do know that I have talked to several parents since I left and not to many have had many positive thoughts about certain things that have gone on in the past year. And many of those things probably are not going to change with a new head coach. (And I have heard nothing but good things about the new HC from people inside the coaching world and out) So please do not take that as a knock on him. And please let me stop right here and clear some things up: I love WB and anyone who knows me will tell you that. Period. All I want is for WB to be at the "Blount County Invitational" in Cookevilel (Sounds weird huh?) every year just like the other two Blount County schools are. I have great friends at both Alcoa and at Maryville and I don't listen to any of the "recruiting" BS I read on here. Success breeds success and the only way you can catch em is to beat em! And you cannot beat em if you don't play em. Here is what has to happen (in my opinion) to get WB to the next level: 1. Get the student body and faculty behind you. That means FB coaches actually go to pep rallies, basketball games, band concerts etc. At the Homecoming bomb fire I was the lone rep. To get support...you show support. 2. Get the alumni base behind you by getting to know some of them. 3. Support the Middle schools that feed WB. Been neglected way to long. 4. You ever heard of the Fairview Raiders? What colors are they? And why? I don't care what your feelings are about the guy who runs the thing (I have never spoken to him so I have no thoughts about him). Those are our kids wearing red and black. Do what you got to do. 5. Look for loyalty in a HC. If he has been at 4 schools in 10 years look somewhere else. You don't have to be Nostradamus to see what was coming this year. I will leave it at that. Again, feel free to contact me anytime. My email is my screen name at yahoo.
  24. I am not shocked about kids leaving. I talked to several of the parents and I thought more would leave. Brooks is probably the best football player I have coached. The kid can flat play, is a super kid, and has a great family. He returned 4 Kickoffs for TD's this year, moved to QB after we lost our second QB and did a fantastic job. I hate that he is leaving WB (IF this is true and I have been told it is) because I want WB to win and win big. I can't wait to see the Govs in action and I really, really hope Gregory renews the Alcoa game. Makes no sense to drive to DB and spend $3,000 plus to do it when we can drive 10 minutes away. Just my 2 cents.
