  1. First, I'm not sure extent of the injury to Cara Bowling or if she'll play tonight. As for the rest of your post, it's always interesting to see others' perspective on things. From my perspective, your use of the words "fairly clean blocking foul" are interesting. I saw the play and I understand that fouling is certainly part of the game. However, the offender was trailing the play and appeared much more interested in making contact after the shooter left the floor than going for the ball. I'm not implying the girl was trying to ultimately injure the shooter, but the fact that she turned to the SE bench with a wry smile immediately afterwards tends to support the contention she was trying to send a message. As for playing starters late in the game, have you ever considered the coach was trying to get the girls some more playing time? You do realize this is tournament time. Due to the overall weakness of the teams in our district, the EHS starters have rarely played more than half the game during the second half of the season. Although several starters played in the 4th quarter, they were mostly in as part of different combinations of starters and reserves. Again, a strategic move to evaluate personnel since this is post season. Did I mention this is tournament time? The EHS coach was not trying to run up the score. If his intention was to run up the score and "beat East girls by 50", he would have started the game in a full-court press which would likely have resulted in the final score being a 50-60 point differential (BTW, EHS did not press at all during this game). He would no doubt be criticized for that as well. Regardless, some folks are always going to look for reasons to criticize and find fault, especially when they are looking for an excuse for their own ineptitude. I don't think the EHS coaches, players or fans should have to apologize for having a good team. Just my two cents...Go Lady Cyclones! I guess sportmanship goes out the window at "tournament time." I am glad she got to play in the Championship. Looked at the game stats.....46 team fouls....I hope they were all to your liking.
  2. How do the districts compare in terms of talent and competition? Who is favored? to win out?
  3. I think its as much of a head game for the third meeting, with East carrying the momentum after beating Unicoi twice this season. East by 12.
  4. Geez, that's gotta sting. I guess if its a rule the you got t abide by it. Wonder who would be watching things close enought to catch something like that. Probably some sour grapes along the way.
  5. Anybody know why Mary Hughes boys didn't make it to Area 1? I knew they were atleast in the semi's for their county tournament?
  6. 12-0 so far. Best in start in school history. Wins over Cloudland, Crockett, Boone, UH, Cherokee, Central, M. West, Unaka, Elizbethton, Johnson County and Abingdon. 5 players capable of double figures any night. 2-3 players deep in the bench. Some tougher contests coming up in the next week (Tenn High and South), and a tough 1st game in Arby's.
  7. So we're a couple of weeks into the season, and who's living up to the hype of being a the best player. I say Jordan Cross moves up the list. East's started at 7-0 for the season.
  8. East 67 - Virginia High 40 East JV 70 - Virginia High JV 46 East 66 - David Crockett 53 East 68 - Cloudland 49 Cross scored 23 and 22 respectively in the first 2 games, held to 8 against Cloudland. Crockett big man (Garland) limited to 13.
  9. Sullivan East posted boys wins in scrimmage vs. Volunteer wednesday night. Not too many details known other than a win by 6 or 8 by the patriots after blowing a 19 point lead. JV Boys for East picked up win also by 8, after being down as much as 10 in 1Qtr.
  10. If figured as much on the varsity outcome. I knew that Hampton had better prospects than the outcome of the game. On the JV game, I hate not knowing if my info is correct or not, so I called a friend who has a son that plays varsity at East. East has 2 freshmen on JV. One is Matt Proffitt (#42) who originally played at Mary Hughes. He would been playing at post or the 4 position. The second is David Casaday, a tall, slim point guard, blonde hair, also from Mary Hughes. From my source, both saw some limited action in the Varisty game late, and then about half of the JV quarter.
  11. any standouts from either team? My info is 2nd hand, but heard that East was on fire all around, and early, with most starters scoring. Said the Cross kid didn't warm up until late, but East's post players scored alot. Cross was the only kid who he knew. He did not know any of the other varsity hampton players. On JV, my uncle (who works for school system as a maintenance guy and just happend to stick his head in the gym) said that East had one big kid (a freshmen) who had 3 steals and several rebounds, and one kid who did not miss from teh 3 point line. He also said that it looked like Hampton had atleast 2 athletes who did not play (maybe because of football.)
  12. I hope its an issue with the football atheletes not being avaliable yet, but my uncle told me that Hampton lost to Sullivan East 82-48 last night in a scrimmage. The Hampton JV played East JV after that and the game was stopped after the 1st quarter with East winning 27-0. Did anyone see this?
  13. Anyone have detials on bracket yet?
  14. Anyone have details on location, schedule, matchups?
