  1. Tri County roller rink in OS?
  2. You are way off.. again making comments that are inaccurate- "mistake by the lake" never came from me. That came I think from an OS poster after the Kingston game. I read it and I think I even spoke against that post backtrack on the bottom of coacht.com scroll page and you will see this clearly. Be assured, being an Indians, Browns, and Cavs ( btw, those teams are in Cleveland) fan i am all too familiar with what "mistake on the lake refers. get your facts straight. and if all you have is your expertise, false comments, and trying to rip someones character using "dumb" analogies again of "tired of seeing start up newspapers using businesses money at the expense of high school athletes. Furthermore, I make no apologies about not revealing the potential financing of this project. Using, what other people think to back up an argument, false allegations of posting, and now crying "victim" for businesses to make your point broader and sympathetic is a little desperate don't you think?
  3. andrea davidson - Jackson County , not Amanda jackson, Onieda
  4. The schedule has 26 games. The toughest games will be McMinn Central - home and away Livingston Academy- away, Jackson County- away, and Farragut- away Out of those 5 games, I think OS has a chance to go 4-1 at best and 1-4 at worst. Its hard to say. Livingston Academy- lost the top gun last year- Baltimore off a great team pitted int he toughest district in the state and didnt make it out of the region. LA has alot of young talent returning. I think OS can win this game and should be a tossup. Playing at LA doesnt help. Jackson County- Three time AA defending state champions. It seems they reload in gainesboro, not rebuild. They lost Amanda Jackson, but from what I understand have a couple transfers that good with other returning talent. The game is early 2nd game and that gives OSa shot of pulling a huge upset starting the year off right. Since OS returns 4 starters and Jackson wont be playing the point for JC, Hall might be able control the game with her superior quickness. Farragut- WIll be one of the best AAA teams in state. Pratically returns everyone off their 24-8 team of last year. This should be an even game and playing Farragut is nothing new to OS since the Lady Cats played there 3 times last year in Christmas Tourney. McMinn Central- WOW. THe Lady Chargers are loaded. MC is one of te better teams in the country. I expect them to crack the top 25 in USA today this year with everyone comaing back off one of the top 3-4 teams statewide from last year and only losing twice. MC was te only team in AA that competed with JC in State Tourney. MC has great guard play with Fallon Lee and inside play. OS would have to play their best game of year at home to have a chance to beat MC. Its possible, but wuld take a super effort from the Lady Cats. The game is afer Christmas, so OS with the hard schedule already played might be waiting for with a rowdy student section for MC. Away at MC would almost be a miracle for any team to pull off that kind of upset this year. District Games that are possible ambushes for The Lady Cats is At Kingston as the Lady Cats saw last year and at Loudon. I dont see OS losing this year to any district games with the way OS played in the summer camps and with their tough early season schedule that will make them mentally tough and focused. I think OS is on a misson this year and the following year to cut down te nets. Out of 26 games listed, I think OS goes 23-3 1st in district, region, and on to boro.
  5. Tank, first off, I am sorry your paper did not make it and my posts never insinuated otherwise. I am certain with Goose onboard and even you with your passion for local Roane Cuunty/Morgan County sports that the paper was great. I just recently moved back to East Tennessee, so I never had an oppurtunity to read it. After reading your reply, it would seem you would lead people to believe that I in some way boasted about your paper not succeeding. There were no jabs. I am am sorry to see anyone that invests time and energy and dedicaiton to any sports not succeed especially as you said considering the circumstances. But, this post wasnt about that and I dont want it to be turned into that. Lets stay on the subject at hand. Your posts were critical, underminding the intelligence, understanding, and background involved on the LITTLE info I decided to reveal to you becsaue I knew where you wanted to go. You gave anologies of Sports Illustrated, your paper, and RESUME/EXPERTISE as a way to object and be cynical. You made this personal, not me. Now you have taken one step further with insults questioning my attitude using "others"" think so to, spouting off about financial questions, and questioning expertise. My attitude is ok and sometimes I realize that typing can be constured differently than when spekaing when same words are used. WIth yur background, I am certain you are aware of that. Yes, I have been in some disagreements on this board I never claimed to be a brain surgeon, but you are the one that threw your resume/experience around, not me. The financial issues you raised are a valid ones that looks like there are solutions. so, my question to you is why is there an obvious chip on your shoulder? No one questioned your background, as you did with me. Your understanding of newpapers, as you did with me. The ability to understand the demographics of a newspaper, as you did with me. I dont feel the need to throw my background and resume around. ANd yes,I am quite aware that Coacht.com/ high school boards are for- the kids that particapate, not for resumes and disagreements like this.
  6. Tank, I am happy you have an interest and would like to contribute your expertise in this field, but its all under control and your imput is appreciated, but not neccessary. Just so you dont worry, Cost, Production, Sales, and Staff is part of a business plan that has already been written and forecasted. There have already been demographic studies done on ALL facets/areas of this project. I am sorry your paper didn't succeed, but I agree with you KNoxville is the perfect fit for a paper to cover the high schoolas the study has shown. The group that is part of this venture, rest assured comes from a the highest communication background's background in East Teennesee - MBA from UT, Board of Directors for Tennessee Press, and a Public Relationsh Background. Yes, a staff of 6-8 can easily producethe results through innovative ideas, hard work, and communication to each and every school with an open door policy. This paper is not about the paper as much as it will focus on the kids. Sometimes we forget in out own self serving plight that its about the kids.
  7. Located in Knoxville And to answer your question, YES a paper can have a staff of 6-8 and easily succeed, thus not needing to hire help from Sports Illustrated.
  8. 2 different decades and lets pu together a team based on high school, college, and pro criteria. open to suggestions?
  9. Buley vs. Hall which is possibly the two best players in East Tennessee and they are only Juniors. Buley is one of the top 10 players in the country. Should be exciting to watch these two phenoms go at it.
  10. I excitedto see the Lady Cats aggressivly pursue and play big time opponents this season on McMinn Central twice, Livingston Academy - away, Jackson County- away, and Farragut- away. With frou of these five game on te road this will only help the maturing Lady Cats become that team that is capable of cutting down the nets come March. I wish Oak Ridge was on the schedule. When will ORHS ever decide to drop in policy and play OS in a home and home. I know OR thinks it has nothing to win by playing OS, but could you imgaine this rivalry that would be created. Anyway, hats off to OS coaching staff for goign out and playing the best on the road. It will pay off in a big way.
  11. A newspaper in the worksgiving complete coverage soley dedicated to Knoxville High school area sports. The paper will be weekly covering each Knoxville team and Loudon, Monroe, Roane, Scott, Morgan, Campbell, Anderson, Grainger, Union, Claiborne, Jefferson, Hamblen, Sevier, Cocke, Blount counties with coverage to over 60 schools. This paper will target all sports with an emphasis on the football, basketball, baseball, and soccer. The goal/aim is to have in depth coverage of schools/players wit interviews/bios and coverage that has eluded many players/schools that are STARVED for the attention they deserve. For instance, in the Knoxville area alone, there are two of the top 10 players as juniors in the nation in Corey Booker from Oak Ridge and Sade Buley from South Doyle. East Tennessee and sports fans in this area seldomly get in depth coverage on recruiting, bios, and info. Players Like Laura Hall of Oliver Springs, Sevier County's AAA championship in womens basketball, Maryville's attempt of a three-peat need to be exposed and put out there. Bearden's mens soccer finishing in the top 5 natinally this past year or a write-up on the Anderson County volleyball program that has dominated that scene and few no about it unles you read small print in the Sentinal. As Goose said, a Chattanooga paper deliverd Oakdale's Brad Howard state record in the early 90's, not the sentinal... Without speaking of the negatives of non-converage, the goal is to give equal coverage regradless of school and classification in the Knoxville area and finally bring the are together with some sense of coverage area once and for all.
  12. You are correct.. When you play Smith COunty, be prepared not only on the field but on Coacht.com as well. THose owls are everywhere! Glad to see Oliver Springs #7 and SC #1 in hits on by fans on Coacht.com Two small schools showing everyone what support is.....
  13. I am going with Oliver Springs's 3-A brother's Smith County. Even during the one week Coacht.com War with OS, I have alot or respect for SC and the ahrd physical tema the OWLS are. SC is byfar the most complete team the Bobcats have played this year and scored 21 on a Bobcats defense only allowing 6 ppg this year. SC Defense is just as good, maybe just a bit better than the Bobcats- and that is SCARY. With SC running game and amzing D, I dont see anyone beating them in thier region this year and I wouldnt bet on them not making a trip to Nashville this year. SC 21 Trousdale 12
  14. Good to see CLinton and Oak Ridge going at it with talk about two great guards in Phillips and Brown, however just 5 miles away in a sleepy town called Oliver Springs is junior PG Laura Hall. Last year as a sophomre, she was considered the best PG in East Tennessee... Sorry Wildcats, but the best guard in area, East TN, and TN is in Oliver Springs.
  15. Laura Hall Oliver Springs only soph. to make all state last year in any classifiction Might be the fastest in the state at geting up and down the court. Averaged close to 30 ppg from in region, substate, and state tourney games leading OS to state tourney appearence. Few can match her athleticism/shooting/passing. Only a junior this, she was considered by alot to be the best PG in East TN last yearas a sophomore.

A great question to ask/debate about the ascent of Bobcat football over the last 10-12 years. Frank Johnson's staff has elevated expectations. Johnsons first team went 2-8 in OS's first year back in AA in 89. Previously in the 80's OS was on the losing end of numerous games 56-0, 42-7, 28-0, 49-0 to Harriman, Kingston, LC, Holston, Rockwood, AC to name a few. In Johnson's 2nd season in 90, OS blew out a Harriman team that made playoffs year before, Loudon, and beat Rockwood on a last minute dramatic win at OS to knock the Tigers out of the playoffs. That season was the first time OS lined up against good solid AA opponents and won. Year after Year, OS would come close to winning some big games over some very good teams such as Jermaine Copeland's Harriman team in 92 that knocked OS out of playoffs on a herioc effort with a 80 yard pass to end the game and put the Bobcats in playoffs. It wasnt until OS defeated Alcoa and Chad Pennington Webb team in 94 and finished 4th in region behingd the LB play Matt Green and Rocky Lowery's slashing runing game. From that season, OS has been competitive every year and played a part of some huge games. I think OS is the only team that will have beaten ALcoa after tonight 4 times( out of 8)since the inception of 5 classifications. Knowing the above, the question at hand is has OS improved or teams declined or a combination of both. Yes, Region 2AA was spoiled when Chad Pennington, Jermaine Copeland, the GREAT Alcoa teams, the VERY good Oneida team, Sweetwater Championship team, Matt Huskey's Webb Champioinship team, OR Austin East and Loudon in the region. Taking this into consideration, it logical to think the teams of today dont stack up. I do think OS doesnt have the big star player and plays team offense and defense and that makes it easy to quesiton the value of this team. Sure, the Kingston team that OS has played the last 2 years wasnt the Maurice Hamilton, Scott Guin, Kevin Mays Kingsotn teams of old, but they were 4-0 teams boht years and OS outplayed them in both games. I dont think anyone can rmemeber the last time an OS team lined up for tow straight years and phycially wore down the Jackets. ALso, Smith County and Boyd Buchanon along with Sweetwater could give any of the old great region teams any run for their money. Sometimes it takes a coach 10 plus years to get their program to adjust to level of competition when it has no football tradition or success as was the case for OS. OS football is here to stay. Coach Johnson has an amazing staff and the Bobcat faithful/fans shoudl be more appreciative for the loyalty and dedicaiton he has shown. ALso, Terry Hacker, OS prinicipal is another reason why OS athletics has flourished with his "can DO'menatility that all OS sports displays. Not many schools can say in the last 6 years they have had teams in 3rd round of playoffs in football, spring fling in baseball, boys and girls basketball team in MBoro.

I am happy if that is accurate that Seymour is back on the schedule. I think the Cats can start winning te game in this series. Just curious if anyone knows... Why is OS playing Midway instead of Coalfield. Gate receipts would double a Midway/OS game and the attention and anticapation would not nearly be the same. any thoughts?

    Alcoa @ OS

It would be a huge mistake if the teams did not play this game. COncessions, revunue, attmosphere, and competitive nature is making this game more special. I would be the house when this series was resumed that eithe school would have thought both games would have matched the intensity and attnetion it has drawn. No offense to Rockwood or Harriman, but OS/Kingston game has become the hot ticket in Roane County not only because of the caliber of players on the field, but the fans, atmosphere, and attention... OS/Alcoa score prediciton if it continues to be windy outiside then ALcoa is in big trouble with the passing game and COllett could pick off 2-3 passes tonight if Alcoa throws at him. New Prediction: OS 27 Alcoa 0 OS comes out fired up and dismisses any thoughts of a let down and sets up a HUGE matchup with Sweetwater for the region championship later in the season.

    best freshmen

state in intercpeitons with 7 ints in 5 games. He and the OS defense are keeping the Bobcats tough this year by just allowing 7 ppg and holding opponents scorless in 16 of the 20 quarters played this year. Collet has the potential to be a VERY special player.

Calm down OSHSMAN... The game's over and to put energy out there like you are does no one good. It was a tough tough loss, but OS will regroup. ALso, I would imagine that WHalen, COllett and other tlaneted underclassmen thinks other wise about OS chances next year winning against the Yellow Jackets at DJ Britian Field. Like Goose said, I thnk OS has a tremendous chance to win next year with the talented group returning. 10 years ago, OS could have only hoped to be competitive with Kingston once every 5 years, but now OS expects to win and is disappointed when the Bobcats dont come away with a victory. Times are changing and expect this game to become a BIGGER Rivalry than what it has already become in the years to follow. The atmosphere was electirc last Firday night. Kingstons band is top notch. great game to watch and be a part of.

Finally able to talk about the game without knots turning in my stomach thinking about scenirios and the circumstances of the game. Oliver Springs dominated Kingston until the final 3 minutes. Until the sweep around the end with 3 minutes left and Kingston looking like a deer in headlights on their own 19 yard line with under 3 minutes left, OS had outgained Kingston with over 200 yards to Kingston's 50 yards of total offense. In the second half, Oliver Springs had 5 costly penalities with None for Kingston. Almost all 5 penalties were VERY quesitonable. Not that I think ANY of the refrees had the intent of controling the game with a Kingston win, but I think playing at Kingston, its reputation, and a 3-a school came into factor. Yes, I have no idea why a pass over the middle that led to the inteception and eventual game winning field goal was thrown. Why on your own 29 do you throw a 10 yard pass over the middle with 20 secons left? The play before, WHalen ( OS's QB) made a spectacular run all the way to mid field and a Bobcat first down that could have resulted in a Bobcat FG from Long range of 45-50 yards with another first down. The point being that flag came out of no where for illegal procedure from the linesman on the Kingston side. Furthermore, the flag for a face mask was very quesitonable aiding the Jacket TD to tie the score at 7-7. Regardless, like Swamp said, this game should have been over and OS will learn from this and with its defense OS can compete and beat almost anyone on any night. Kingston deserves alot of credit for its display of not giving up when they could have folded. The OS defense in 20 quarters has held opponents scoreless in 16 of those. That is huge. I do think Kingston football has made a huge improvement from last year and will battle for the playoffs. . I think Kingston will compete against AC alot better than most think and possibly upset Fulton becasue Kingston will match up well with the Falcons and finish the season in a 3-way ties for 2nd place with AE and Futlon with AC winnning it outright. Back to OS, look for the Bobcats to stun the Tornadoes with "SMASH MASH FOOTBALL" and improve to 4-2 overall and leading the region with a 3-0 record. OS 21 Alcoa 0
  22. This Freshman sensation has stopped teams time and time again with an uncanny ability to elimiinate drives. He had 2 int's last nighht against Kingston. Even though on a miracle win for the Jackets over the Bobcats, the OS defense takes a backseat to no one and makes them a viable threat to any team they face in regular season or playoffs.
  23. Kingston WILL not score 24 points on OS's defense. OS has a considerable better defense than any of RCHS first 4 opponents and the most points Kingston can muster is 28, 21, 21, and 21. You are telling me that RCHS is going to score 24 against OS when the BOBCATS Defense has only been scored on in 3 of the 16 quarters they have played football. 2 of those quarters were against Smith County ( a top 5 AAA team) I dont think RCHS is the same caliber as Smith County this year. Expect a great game, not a 24-0 score by any team.
  24. This Roane County rivalry was renewed last year for the first time in 8 years with the Bobcats winning 10-6 at DJ Britian Field. Even though a non-region contest, this game is turning into the biggest rivalry in Roane County. Like last year, Kingston enters the game with a perfect 4-0 record and will be looking not to duplicate last years fall after losing to the Bobcats and not qualifying for the playoffs. A win would be HUGE for both teams as they need momentum for their respective region races. OS will be looking for its first win over Kingston at Kingston in more than 30 years (?) OS defense has only given up 27 points and plays outstanding team defense. OS Freshman standout David Collett has already picked off 6 passes on the young season of four games. Kingston's defense has been almost equally impressive allowing just over 30 points on the season and should be especially tough at home. Look for a huge crowd/packed house as OS looks to sanp a LONG losing streak at Kingston as the Yellow Jackets looks to avenge last year's defeat to the Bobcats. Oliver Springs 14 Kingston 12 OS has seemed to pull out close narrow victories on the road and away ( with exception Sweetwater last year) Look for this treand to continue as OS defense comes up tough all night in the 2nd Half.

Impressive defenses on both sides of the ball. Goose, what do you think of OS freshman Safety David Collett that has 6 interceptions?
