With a 6'3 Center from Europe, Goins transfering, Wampler and Hackworth( one of the top freshman in state last year) who are now sophomores OS should be drastically improved in the post next year. The 6'3 transfer from Europe supposedly can match many boys athleticiscm because of her sports background. With these indsi3e options and Laura running the point, My question wouldnt be asking if #3 is too high, but if its to LOW.

Crazed, I am calling you out on this board for your inaccurate comments by saying some Coalfield lineman average 150 lbs. Name them and their weight? I would imagine COalfield lineman average close to 190 and above, not the 150 as you suggest. Get a clue before you post foolish remarks. I do think Wartburg is in for a battle. Look for a great heated rivalry game. Good luck to both teams

seasons? To my knowledge their are probably few programs that have accomplished this feat. Oliver Springs is the only one I can think of. Anyone else know of others?
-
Then that is ridiculous to be self imposed by the county or whatever powers that be that try to enforce their wishes on programs and call it a fund raiser. Programs should be SELF sufficent in their fund raising efforts. If schools or programs are strapped for cash then a christmas tourney is the way to go, but not at the expense of programs that have other desires and excersize their options accordingly. If schools want to raise money, then hold your own tourney or get together with schools, but dont expect schools to play each other 4-5 times in a year- it becosmes overkill and predictible. But back to this jamboree and comparing Kingston's no show and OS's no show are TWO completely different situaitons. Kingston in football this year is not what OS in womens basketball right now. Second, Kingston did not have any other obligation during the night of the jamboree as OS did in Orlando in the Disney tourney. A jamboree isn a real game preperation would have helped Kingston get ready to real game rituals and would have been tremendous for Roane COunty to see the Orange show up. I agree, I think Kingston should have been there But, OS girls want to play the states and some of the best teams from the southeast in tournies and Christmas tournies are typically where you can play thse teams. OS wihtout question with the transfers they have recieved will be one of the states best teams easily, so naturally OS wants tthem to gel and paly against the best and these tournies will provide them with that competition. It's apples and oranges when comapring the situation.

OS already plays Rockwood and Harriman as out of district opponents to maintain their county rivalry. OS plays Kingston in their district, so to who's benifet would it be to play in a county christmas tourney full of teams that OS already play's? The rest of the county or OS's? The answer is simple- FOr the best interest of OS girls basketball they need to seek the best teams available in a toureny. No offense if I were a coach, girl, or a school administrator and I had teams the caliber of OS girls, I would pull OS from the toruney each and every year and play them in other prestigous tournies or to play against temas from across the country/state that match OS's talent and will make OS elevate their game that will be benifical later come tourney time. It's a no brainer. This football jamboree of ONE quarter vs. talk of OS Lady Cats mission of competing against the best talent in the state/country is nowhere even close to the same thing to a Football Jamboree of Kingston not particapating. ALso, OS has shown to probably be the best football team this year and lastg year and it's particiapating. Also, there is no history behind this jamboree or tradition, so why expect teams to particapate or even be upset? Kingston not in the Jamboree and OS Girls not in Christmas Tourney is Apples and Oranges.. the two dont even belong together.
-
This Jamboree and the Christmas basketball tourney are two seperate issues. OS girls chose to play in a national tourney in FL because of the Very talented Lady Cats team that wanted to be challenged by teams that would be comparable in talent to themsleves and state tounry teams. The Roane County Christmas tourney did not present OS with this challenge. Therefore OS looked elsewhere.

Goosevol, You are correct Wartburg did win at OS last year, but OS has had two tremendous outing against CLinton and power AC this spring. I didnt say Wartburg would be a bad team, I just think its out of schedule games doesnt prepare it for success in the "big" ones or playoffs... HOw has Wartburg faired in its scrimmages? just curious...... who have they played?
-
LOL.. I am an idiot because I dont believe Wartburg will be an elite team???????/ That is ridiculous... Yes, The "mighty bulldogs from MORGAN county" beat OS last year, but all time Wartburg has a 5-47 record agaisnt the Mighty Bobcats. Wartburg has always been dominated by OS in all sports since the inception of this one sided rivarly. Sure,. wartburg football might win 6 games this year and finish 4th in region, but in those 6 games Wartburg plays small enrollment Sunbright, Oakdale, and Coalfield. That's hardly a tough schedule for a 2-a team that want to improve its program. Yes, there are county rivalries, but like OS has done Warburg needs to schedule 3-A teams and scrimmage 3-a and 4-A teams. get a clue next time when someone has an opinion. Wartburg football has come along way, now it just needs 42 wins in the series to catch up with OS. Oh yeah, you mentioned you dont want to give os Best of luck like you did other temas in region.. that's more than ok.. OS doesnt need your luck.. We have sweetwater to worry about, not wartburg..

Thanks IAMOZ. Agree with you that Laura is a slasher, scorer, passer and just all around phenomenal basketball player. I dont know if classifying her as a point gaurd or off gaurd is correct. Just put her on the floor and let her do magic!
-
Thanks..... I appreciate the info....
-
hmmmmm... I wonder who that could be? This girl sounds like the real deal and again could be the missing piece to the puzzle that could help lead the Lady Cats to a Saturday game in Mboro.
-
OS has always been very successful at having European players. Claire Mollison from Scotland played for UNCC and the Bobcats her senior season. If this girl is that athletic at 6'0 and caught with one hand and plays handball then OS might have found a missing link that could elevate them into contention with Mcminn Central as possibly the favorites. If anyone is familiar with handball they know it is patterned in many ways after basketball in the flow of the game. Hopefully she has some basketball experience. If anything, her athletic ability will allow her to become a dominant rebounder.
-
I wasn't aware there were transfers.. Who are they and what positions do they play? I honestly believe the Lady Cats could have a better season than last year and win 30 plus games. OS plays a tougher schedule than last year, so competition and wins will be harder, but OS should be considerbly better than last year team with the young retrurning talent as well and which spells trouble for competition. Right Now, I see McMinn County as the team to beat in AA ball with Teams like Upperman, LA, Jackson County, Tellico Plains, Giles County , Walker Valley, and OS as challengers for the AA trophy. I tink OS has a tremendous chance to improve greatly and put together a run at the AA championship this year. Look for Junior PG Laura Hall to be a finalist for Ms. Basketball in AA. Look for Hackworth and Wampler for big things out of Wampler and Hackworth even more than last year as they mature more from their freshman campaigns.

I posted on this last night abd tge oist has disappeared on main board. First know this. I think Lee is an exceptiobnal basketball player with a trememndous future in high school, college, etc. Knowing that, I will anser your question if you answer a question for me. Who was in charge of selecting the players for the AAU Junior Olympic Teams? Was it a committie or coaches? And where do these coaches coach at in the high school ranks and AAU competition aside from junior AAU Olympics. Also, a poster that said Lee had a broken hand I believe and still competed in the event. Why was this? For such a presigous event why wasnt she pulled because of her injury and another just as talented girl allowed to compete unless this event has more to do with alliegences than it does putting the best basketball players on the floor. To be honest, this was far from Tennessee's most talented high school team. SOme like Sade Buley and others were there. YOu asked about a PG.. Well, Oliver SPrings PG Laura Hall could easily be the best PG in the state as junior. In my opinion I would have her at the PG slot if I was leading a TN team.
-
Agree with OldReb. Sweetwater is loaded with talent only comparable to the Alcoa team of 2000. Hooters, I think you are off base becasue you mention Alcoa, Rockwood, and Wartburg as the teams that coule upset Sweetwater, but clarly as even Sweetwater fans will tell you Oliver Springs will be the only team that has what it takes to give Sweetwater a challenge. Like Sweetwater has in scrimmages, OS has looked tough against AAA and AAAA teams. Should be a great race in the region this year.
-
My apologies on not responding, I never looked at the AAU post again. I was just curious who picked these girls to compete in the AAU Olympics. If it were the coaches, then who were the coaches and where are the from? Lee is a great player full of enourmous potential. She has an amazing future and the sky is the limit. I fell however looking at the roster that possibly the best PG in the state in alot of peoples mind wasnt on this roster in Oliver Springs PG Junior Laura Hall. I am sure whateve committie and coaches that selected this team have their reasons. I would have just like to see the most talented players play. If Lee had a broken hand, why wasnt there another player added to such an event that represented the state of Tennessee. I guess the coaches have their allegiences to who they had chosen for whatever reason. that a good enough answer?
-
I had to leave at the halfway point and the score was tied 14 all. Oliver Springs defense looked tough and moved the ball well against the AAAA Dragons. Besides an interception return and the CLinton QB speed on sweeps around the end OS was in control of this game as I left. The Bobcats look tough a wihtout question play tema football. Look for them to challenge Sweetwater for the top spot in the region.
-
OS was up 3 Td's to 0 against Scott and quit attacking which let Scott storm back. You are correct, OS should have won easily. Look for OS to have a full scrimmage against CLinton.
-
This scrimmage should put together two rivals that rarely compete against each other whether it be basketball or football. Whenever the two schools get together it is usually a heated contest because of the history this rivalry. Also, OS looks to already add to its spring and fall success = as the Bobcats have tied Anderson County and beaten a very improved AAA Scott County team. If OS has a good showing againt the AAAA Dragons, then AA will take notice and will wihtout question make the BOBCATS the team along with Sweetwater to beat in Region 4AA. I look for the Bobcats to come out tough and give the Dragons fits, as the did with AC. prediction OS 28 Clinton 21

Far from apples and oranges. In your previous post you made the comment under the old format of 2 playoff teams from each district making the playoffs you doubt OS would have been in the playoffs. My anser is simple actually- they would have been district champs in AA at least 3 times and made the playoffs just as many. In the old AA district of Oliver SPrings, Kingston, Scott, Wartburg, Harriman, and Rockwood since 1994 OS is 21-8 against these teams in that period. Before that OS had a dismal record against these same teams. You mentioned some single A district. OS has only been single A for two years in 88-90. OS is wihtout quesiton an AA school, so dont get this jumbled with an anology that doesnt fit. Clearly the record against their old AA rivals shows OS to be the leader of this pack or a distant second, thus making the playoffs consitantly.
-
Baden, you are incorrect with your assumption with OS not being in the playoos as bearly as much if classifications were differently. It would nearly be the same. Last year, OS would actually have more district titles if the old district of Scott, Wartburg, Harriman, OS, Kingston, Rockwood, with 2 going to playoffs. OS would have gone and even won this district 3-4 times outright. Last year they would have won this region, in 1998 they would have won it. A couple years in between as well. Just some FYI

1. YOu clearly said all state in your first post. AS I quote you " IDA Sammons made all sate. Now you claim you meant all state tourney.. There is a HUGE difference. 2. You said I posted things about AE if you are not mistaken. You are clearly mistaken. First off in you original post on this topic you said that I made references that a certain OS player would run wild on AE. Your last post then said I made comments about AE. If you are going to post, please have some knowledge of what you are posting. COacht.com allows you to backtrack, so instead of posting SLOPPY posts do some homework and add something concrete, instead of if I am not mistaken or I believe.. 3. I posted this original post. I only ranked AE 7th and that was the last time I posted. WHen I amde the top 10, I actually do believe AE will not have the success they had last year with losses- Michelle Booker, etc. come to find out, the reason you ranked OS 7th is because of me putting AE 7th. YOu openly admited that above... Again, sloppy posting.. That is all for now.. Training wheels still entact, for now
-
goldball, you are not only mistaken, but completely out in left field, but thats ok... I am certain you still have your training wheels on.. one day I will get a wrench and you can peddle your bike with the big boys.. First off, Ida Sammons did not make ALL STATE as you mentioned. She made all East Tennessee and Honorable Mention ALl State. Possibly she made All tourney at the state tourney, but without question she was not on the all state team AP. Strike one Secondly, I never made comments that any player from OS would run circles around any opposing player or team. Why do I knw this? Its simple actually. I would never put expectations on a young player to perform. Backtrack and look and see what was posted if you feel strongly about your misguided post. Strike 2 Hm.. I guess you think its a sore spot as you stated above. Well, obvioulsy You ranked OS 7th because I ranked AE 7th. But unlike you I did mine without bias to gat even with a poster as you di with me. Strike 3 YOur out, game over.. In summary, I dont think AE will have the super team it had last year. Ae will be good and soid, but a 30 win season will be hard to duplicate. Again, that my belief.. Just some advice.. KNow if you can hit the pitch, before you come to bat..
-
Oliver Springs 7th??????? I can see other picks, but why would you pick a state tourney team with 5 of their 6 top players returning also a tremendous transfer in Monk and All State( as a sophomore) PG Hall who help lead her AAU team to 4th place in the nation this summer 7th, are you serious?
-
Not the point. Yes, everyone is selfish to a certain degree, but Knight has no characteristics of being unselfish. He has been destructive to many on this slef plight of his. You talk about discipline, the man has none himself. SOmething doesnt go his way- he screams, cries, throws, goes on rampages like a 8 year old. That's discipline? Hardly. SOme posters have asked if they woudl send their kid to play for him. I have to ask myself with his track record - who in the heck with a right mind would subject their kid to this? True parents send their kids to the Coach K's, Dean SMith's, JOhn Woodens. AS I said, Indiana's gain, TT embarrasment
