  1. Part of the reason this game was moved to where it is(instead of Week 1), was to give both teams the opportunity to get better as the season progressed and come into this fierce rivalry with guns a-blazin. Well, I have to give the schedule makers credit on this one. At the beginning of the year, no one would have given Marion a chance with the inexperience and the lack of numbers problem they've had to endure. The Warriors have been on somewhat of a roller coaster with their wins and losses, but somehow have managed to protect the home turf. South Pittsburg opened with a very impressive win over Sweetwater, and have cruised through their schedule until a small bump in the road last week against Boyd. And lets be honest about that one, if not for turning it over inside their own 20 yard line twice, I believe the outcome might have been different. Now, as far as a prediction goes, I will not make one, that is, with regard to the score. Is SP the better team? Probably. Will it show on the scoreboard? Maybe, maybe not. My hope and I truly believe this, is that the excitement that surrounds this game during Week 1 will be just as strong, if not stronger in Week 7. I only hope that people in the community come out and support both teams and help give these athletes an experience they will never forget, win or lose.
  2. First of all, let me offer my congratulations to the Warriors for a huge win against a good Grundy Co. football team. When you step on the field week in and week out with less than 30 players suited up and no one real superstar at any position, then you have to depend on sheer heart and guts to get you through four quarters. That is exactly what this team has been about this year. They realize that they are not the most talented bunch of football players to ever wear the purple and white, but that doesnt stop them from busting their tails every day for that one shot at glory. And about Tim Taylor and his coaching staff: I know Tim and the staff personally and cant think of any coach or staff who works as hard they do at getting the best out of their players. People in the community want to whine about this and that, and live in the 1990s: They need to get behind this coaching staff and their band of Warriors who show more heart than a Warrior team has shown in a long time.
  3. Congrats to the Big Red for breaking the streak, but you know what they say: "A blind squirrel will find an acorn every now and then!"
  4. Who is the top 2 in each division, ( 1A,2A, so on) in the Chattanooga area?
  5. Look here Legacy, We wasnt talkin crap about your team. We were just simply stating the facts about Marion County having a chance to beat you guys in the district tourney. If you wanna talk junk, bring it to the field, and when did we get beat 17-5?
  6. Marion County wins a close one in the district 6-aa game in Jasper.Grundy had a five run lead but let Marion come back in the 5th inning.Nixon hit a blooper in the 7th that scored 2 but let Marion come back in the bottom half of the inning. In the 9th inning Marion held Grundy and come in and Nick Holland had the game winning RBI in the bottom of the ninth.
  7. Lookout Valley will go no farther than to Al Raffo Field and get there butts kicked by Marion County. P.S. Catcher, quit duckin from the curveball.
  8. That one in Marion County was at Marion County High School.
  9. Marion County may be a darkhorse in this tournament. There are alot of tough teams in the tourney but they have enough talent to make some noise in the tourney
  10. If Charlie Moore is 6'6", then I'm Yao Ming's size. Charlie Moore is an underrated player in the Chattanooga area, but let's not build him up quite that much yet. He's just a junior and his future looks pretty good, but apparently you and I are the only ones that know about him.
  11. Just a quick correction: Marion/Dekalb boys will be played at 5:30, not 7:00 as it says in the previous post.
  12. Final Score - Franklin Co.- 69 Marion Co.- 41: Marion did not handle the pressure defense real well and was never able to get into any rhythm on offense. Credit the Rebels defense, they were very aggressive and played defense for 32 minutes.
  13. You need to get some facts straight. At the Walker Valley playday, Sequoyah was not beating Marion County. As a matter of fact Marion won that game by about 12 or 13 points. And I don't know about Sequoyah, but Marion was playing without their football players, one of which is a probable starter. I'm not saying that Sequoyah doesnt have some talent. They looked to be somewhat young, so the potential is there and it seems the coach works extremely hard. Good luck to the Chiefs this year.
  14. Just wanted to end my part of the post wishing the Wildcats good luck the rest of the way. All of us in the eastern portion of the bracket have our work cut out to knock off Tyner and Goodpasture. Don't know a great deal about Goodpasture but do know that you guys played Tyner close, and if not for what seemed like a gazillion fumbles, we(Marion) gave the Rams all they wanted. Finish strong Polk Co. and get some momentum heading into the playoffs and maybe the Warriors can right the ship and do the same.
  15. First of all, congratulations on the win Friday night and finishing 2nd in the Region for the second year in a row. However, to get on here and wonder why Marion's fans are not talking after the loss is classless and uncalled for. Personally, I posted on here a couple of days before the game that it would be a great game , that both teams would be motivated by the opportunity to host a first round playoff game. Trash talking? I don't think so. If I wanted to talk trash to Polk Co. I could simply remind them of all those games against Marion that even if you added up the margin of victory in the last two Polk victories, it wouldnt even come close to just one of the spankings Marion put on you in the playoffs. Now, if you want to say that's in the past, then I'll leave you with two little words from this year: COPPER BASIN!!
  16. Wildcatman: I appreciate your sincerity and honesty about the game Friday night. Sometimes people can't seem to view things from both perspectives. I, too, think the game will be close. Both teams know that a win probably gives them home field in the first round of the playoffs. That, in itself should be enough to motivate every player that steps on the field. Both teams will be hungry, and speaking soley from Marion's point of view, I know they not only want to end a two-game losing streak(Tyner and Grundy), but they are still stinging from last year's homecoming loss to your Polk Co. Wildcats. Enough to get them over the top? I hope so and I think so, although I'm looking forward to a hard fought battle that might come down to an extra point. Marion 21 Polk 20.
  17. Final: Tyner 40-10. Most people who were not there, which is probably all you experts on here, will say "I told you so". But if you were there, you know Marion had their chances, but when you fumble the ball 5 times in 6 possesions you're not going to beat many teams, especially a team the caliber of Tyner. Marion controlled the first half, holding Tyner to four offensive possessions. They moved the ball very well and played inspired defense. Kids were well-prepared, but when you give the other team that many chances on your side of the 50 yard line, it will jump up and bite you in the tail. Marion now has to move on and get ready for next week with a battle looming in Polk Co. Game should be for second in the region with a home playoff game on the line.
  18. It must be nice to be able to sit around all day and do nothing but bash MARION County football. But I guess for someone from SP, there isn't much else to do. As for the Tyner/Marion game, Tyner is a very talented football team, one that I said at the beginning of the year would win it all, but I believe the game will be closer than what some people might believe or in your case piratecountry, what some people are hoping to happen. Now, for that to happen, I do believe Marion will have to be clicking on all cylinders and Tyner will have to be off their game a bit, but the motivation of a region title(granted Marion gets past Sequatchie and Polk) should be enough for the kids to rise to the occasion. I'm not predicting an upset, but unlike some people, I'm also not saying that it's totally out of the question.
  19. Indian, I think you have your facts mixed up. Springs is not from Whitwell. To my knowledge he has lived in Jasper all his life. I believe what you are thinking about in regards to that article, was the idea that DERRICK Parker from the basketball team was from Whitwell, which wasn't exactly true either.
  20. Does Sequatchie County ever, I mean, ever lose simply because the other team was better? It doesn't sound like it.
  21. As an innocent bystander I would just like to say this: About two or three years ago, we wouldn't be having this conversation because of the state of Whitwell's program. Wes Green has done an outstanding job to get that program headed in the right direction and win or lose Friday night against Boyd, it's just nice to see that Whitwell football can stir the emotions of so many people on this message board.
  22. Hold on just a second: Yes, South Pittsburg was the better team Friday night, but are they a better team overall? I say probably not. Yes, both teams made a slew of mistakes to cost them the ball game, South Pittsburg capitalized, the Warriors did not. I speak from an up close view of the Warriors team(and no I am not a coach), so I can't say a great deal about the Pirates, although Ron Ridley is a fine athlete. But for you to say that there isn't anything on the Warrior team that resembles an athlete is absolutely false. Yes they were a bit out of shape, but S.P. had their fair share of cramping players too. Out of shape or just a hot August evening? Who knows. In any event, Marion has probably the best set of athletes out there(even with the numbers down) than they've had in years. South Pittsburg can brag for a year, they earned that right to do so, but for Marion's sake, lets wait before we say everything is in shambles, give them a chance to regroup and fight back this week against Tellico Plains.
  23. Are you talking about John Watts? If so, he returns for his senior season this year and should be a force in the valley. As for graduation at Marion, they did lose the Winfree kid(who will be playing at Tennessee State) as well as Brooks Congrove and Derrick Parker, who were starters. Along with Watts, the Warriors will return Reggie Mosley who joined him in the starting lineup as well as Brent Layne who started the last half of the season. I'm not sure about the other schools except that Bledsoe was hit pretty hard by graduation I think, although I know the Brooks kid will be back.
  24. Thank you TnAquarius for your comments. In the MC/SP rivalry, the series edge goes to SP by a whole ONE game. That makes for some very interesting years. I noticed on another rivalry thread that Maryville owned about a 28 game edge. Its going to take a lot of catching up for Alcoa in that series for it to equal the competitiveness of the Pirates/Warriors. There's not a right or wrong answer to this thread, and I don't really think that one can claim their's is better than everybody's. All it does is bring us to another discussion as we celebrate the wonderful world of high school football. Because, as it says on another thread, there's nothing like it.
