  1. The Rangers biggest problem is taking Carpenter off Short. It messes up the entire defense.. No matter who pitches Even if Carpenter is the best pitcher, if he is not at short the defense is in a bad formation. Last week may have been their best defense with a freshman pitching.. Church at second, Carp at SS, great combo. That is as good as the battery. Also Taylor is good at second. The batting order is pretty good, but would like to see Carp in the two or three hole to knock runs in, he puts the bat on the ball and makes the defense make a play. Speaking on making the defense make a play, many games are won from small ball, Runners on first and second with no outs you must take away the double play ball. No matter who is at bat. Like a baby must crawl before they can walk, you need to learn the bunt before you learn to hit. The future is very bright losing only three players for Unaka. Good Luck Rangers hope to be in Murrfreesboro next week/
  2. Bad News for You!!! Just in..... Dr. Edwards and Norman removed from office effective next Thrusday after Board Meeting/.... I thought they both were doing greeeaatttt, also Payne removed from AD, heard they were making a place for Wilson, with what he had thought he had a good season also. Won some big games and lost a few by a couple of points.
  3. Your dad got me into a profession that has lasted now for 30-years. My first game I ever officiated was between your dad and keith wilson. i called back court on wilson and you dad brag what a good call that was, I'm sure he doesn't remember but that stuck with me because i was only in the sixth grade then,, Years later after high school i registered with the TSSAA in 1977 and have refereed three sports for the last the thirty years. Tell him i said hi thanks not only for me but what he did for my son.
  4. 1974 Melrose Large (33-0) 66-30 Memphis 1974 Happy Valley Small (28-9) 44-42 Memphis
  5. Webster first name at HV was Danny.. Marty Street also played there alone with the Walkers boys who were good.. Did anyone menton Jerry white at Hampton, Leon Tolley, the State MVP At Unaka the best were 1. Eddie Holly 1. Big John Taylor 2. Keith Bowers 3. Phil Hardin & Johnny Bennett Kenneth Chambers & Aaron Dugger The Taylor Boys: Ronnie, Larry and Terry. Larry Morrell Cloudland: Grady Hill and Tony Church.. Church would have been the all Time Leading scorer if there would of been a Three point line. He was deadly from 30 ft. Don't forget Joe Sluder Hampton 7'4 Ken Long Hard to guard him, went on to play at Garner Webb. Kelly Malone and Craig Fair Elizabethton- Johnny Honeycutt, Phil Pierce, Tony Bradley and Big George Richmond and William Trammel was probably the best.
  6. Did he ever win the big one??? Only two men alive in Carter County has ever won the BIG one. Charlie Bayless in 74 and Donald Ensor is 2004. Campbell went through the middle school ranks fast taking a team that was beaten by the second worst team 54-18 to winning the regional Championship in one year. He then advance to Johnson County and took a team that moved up in ranks and played their best ball in thirty years... There is no doubt in my mind He is the best man for the job. Why would Cloudland's coach leave when he defeated Hampton in both the District and Regional.. As for Betsy, Dugger is the only logical choice for the job, if Wilson steps down. Wilson had several underclassman and had a pretty good season, I look for him to return... As for Alexander making decesion, he is only an intern at this point and has not been appointed yet, policitics may surprise everyone
  7. If Campbell gets the job look for Mike Matteson and maybe big maybe Len Dugger joining the staff
  8. Congrads to Coach Gordon, He will be missed in the local conference..
  9. Not many people in life get to see their dreams come true like Jason Witten did, we talk about it, dream of it, and hope to live it someday. The road to coaching Hampton High School, started off with a visit to Little Milligan Elementary school to pick up brother after a basketball game. When J.R, passed under the door leading to the Buffalo's gym, life changed paths for him and the path to filling Coach Van Huss and Jerry Whites shoes begin.. As a boy J.R. learned that it was the little things that mattered most in life and after years of coaching in middle and high school has returned to be the principal at Little Milligan School. He has done so much for the community school but one dream still remains.. Like the smell of Biscuits and Gravy in the morning when you passed by Hampton, you smell basketball.. Now with that job available the only real choice is J.R. Campbell. The road to White-VanHuss gym should aready be in the minds of the mentors and it begins up the road on Hwy 321..
  10. Why would Bud Hazzelwood be interested???? I don't hink so, How about J.R. Campbell anybody thought of him.. He would be the best choice for the community, because after hearing from Leon he is not interested in moving from the girls... J.R s the man, Len would be a great choice also, but J.R is the number one choice in my opinion
  11. Bruno if u could get the names or know where I can get a copy of the contract, I would be greatly indebt to you.. We have a new super and AD.. The season doesn't start until the second week of May. You can email me at peters5@charter.net Thanks for your info
  12. Start Trouble??? You have got to be kidding!! All i am is requesting a place for the Jr. Babe to play, where it has since being moved to the field at the high school. If u will research u will see the field was but there for that reason.. New Director seems to think not but Grants were received for that field to be used by the babe Ruth.... My sons are out and I'm fading out, but a lot of memeriors are there and I would like to see the Babe Ruth continue at its present location. Only a few of you are wanted it stopped... As for Coach Payne, I havent said anything neg. about him or Mr. Alexander. Payne is probably the best I have ever seen, I only disagree with Pitchers not Batting... Just a disagreement like me and you are having on this Jr. Babe Ruth Field. I don't understand what you have against the Jr. Babe Ruth.
  13. AND WHO ARE U, n eed more info on you email, trying to research it thanks you can reach me at 423-647-2711
  14. I never trained players to play one position, you never knew if they would all show up, But I do think pitchers need to hit, Its part of the game... Besides the carnival might be in town
  15. Glee you know me and you both have well put our time in. My kids no longer play in the Babe Ruth, but have fond memories of their past experience of summer ball. Ours played in some of the biggest games of their lives that only others dream for. But for the city not to find these boys a place to play would be a disaster for some who never get a chance to play anywhere else. One dad will take 12 players and build a traveling team but the other 80 or so kids would just have to hang out at the pool. You never know who will turn out to be a great player after a couple good experiences. Some of these coaches are the only fathers some kids have to look up to.. We both have spent a small fortune at McDonalds buying Big Macs for players
  16. But what is Marleys Batting Avg...??? This is the whole post, pitchers not getting to bat. Like I said his batting avg. in the state and world series was excellent... You know the competetion, you have been there sereral time. And Yes your kid can pitch, but would you give up his stick??? Pitchers can bat!!!! My son wants to bat not just play defense.. In basketball woul;d you like to pass all the time and not shoot??? Would you like to be the QB and run the ball all the time without passing or handing off??? U know the situation u had to make your own team because of fields and so on.. As for football, your kid was the player last year and the football is doomed this year, not many leaders coming up... Yes your son was the leader and should have been a few years before he got the chance. We all know that...
  17. I Will be the first to agree the field needs work and has for many years, but it has been mention many times almost every April that work will be done on the field, If this is the year so be it, but in the past all the promises have become untrue. Last year I met with the Ad, A rep from the adminastration and a rep from the Park and Rec. They spoke of all the work that was going to be done to the field. As we left the field I told Mr Alderson, nothing would be done, he didn;t believ me and on Friday before opening day in middle of May someone showed up to cut out baselines and that was all... Two hours work was all that has been done in the last five or so years.
  18. Alexander is aware and has also said NO to the Jr. Babe playing at Elizabethton High this year.. As for work on the field I have heard that for the past five years and any work that has been done on the field has been done by the Jr. babe Ruth.. Every April the Athletic directer has said work was going to be done and nothing has took place yet... i not speaking of Payne the AD before him... But he also is against JBR playing there also..
  19. My question is Why is Coach Payne so afraid of the Elizabethton Jr. Babe Ruth??? Most of his players from this year and last year played in the Jr. Babe Ruth and learned a lot from coaches like Tim Chambers, Rocky Davenport, Lamont and Rusty Barnett, Rick Garrison, Acie Ensor, Greg Hyder etc... and the list goes on and on. Not in the last 15 years or 20 has there been any problems with the Jr. Babe using the field at the high school. Now there is GREAT Payne in trying to play this years summer ball As for the pitchers, Cody Marley for one, Scott Burleson, Robert Davenport are great hitters.. I would put them up against anyone on the team.... They all three had remarkable years in Babe Ruth and also in high school. Marley pitched in the World Series last year, pitched in two games of the State Tournament (a Homer) and batted 714 in the state and 630 in the world Series.. Robert played in the 18U Ameteur Youth World Series two years ago as a 16yr. old Sophomore, pitched and led the team in hitting en-route to the Championship game.. You are losing players and student from the county who would have attended Eliz. because of the athletics.. Compare now to 20 years ago, when Eliz. drew most of the athletes from keenburg, Hunter and Valley Forge.. Now most go to Unaka and almost all from Valley Forge area goes to a winning program at Hampton. Payne is loaded with talent but after next year is starts weeding out, Lets see what you think about him then if he is still around. I think when his son grads he's gone.. PITCHERS DO WANT TO BAT. THATS THE MOST FUN IN THE GAME..IF THIS CONTINUES, NO PITCHERS WILL WANT TO PLAY FOR BETSY, IF THEY CAN HIT 2001-2002-2003-2005 2006 JR. BABE RUTH STATE CHAMPS 13-14-15 AND 16 YEAR OLDS
  20. Well that is Great news because he pitched in game three of the Dizzy Dean World series in Mississippi last year. With Rasnick, Adam Colbaugh, Dustin and Hunter Taylor, Leftanders Drew Chambers, & Jeffery Peters coming back for another year, not to mention power hitters Zak Naylor and Jordan Taylor coming in look for the Rangers to have a great season for the next few years
