  1. Bighurt, I joined also. I figure it's my only chance for a good mark. (Plus, I've been on here enough that I figure I owe it)
  2. Thanks, the encouragment helps. The snow days have helped too...the extra time was needed for people to get a little more healthy. Now I know how Harriman felt during football...speaking of which, did you know that Coach Bailey resigned? I hate that his last couple of seasons were so bad...I think there were a lot of factors. OK, I know I'm on the wrong board for this discussion. [Edited by cwp76 on 1-24-03 10:43A]
  3. Thanks Goose. I came back to the board to edit my original message to add that the boys are fighters. They won't give up! With a little luck and fair refs , I look for them to do well the rest of the season. Plus, Nation finally playing, Peterson is nearly over his sprained shoulder - about 80%, and Ringley should be mostly recovered from bronchitis.
  4. It was cancelled but I THINK the Harriman/OS game will be played. I feel so sorry for the boys..EVERYTHING has gone wrong this year. Very disappointing season.
  5. I missed seeing it in the newspaper. Is the info available somewhere else?

You're right, softball. At first they thought it was broken then it was later determined to be a severe sprain. This is just info I heard from my son, nothing I know first-hand. [Edited by cwp76 on 11-27-02 10:27P]

Thank you for the comments. I too hope that the bad feelings will go away in the near future. It sure does take the fun out of it, for me at least.

Does nobody here sleep? This board must be full of insomniacs.

Yeah, that's exactly why I like for my son to play for Coach Johnson even if we had won only 4 games like I originally thought we were going to win this year. You might notice that nobody ever tries to get rid of Coach Johnson, even in the slim-pickings years. He's truly a role model for those kids. I'm editing this to say thanks for the reply, Goose. I can tell you understand. Sometimes stuff happens! [Edited by cwp76 on 11-26-02 1:36P]

Yes, Justice did break his foot (or ankle, not sure exactly which one). Andrew Hayes also was at the ER that night with a suspected broken collar bone, but they decided it was only cracked and badly bruised. Goose, I hope you don't judge OS boys too much by their behavior that game. I asked my son if it was true (referring to a post of yours last Friday or Saturday) that both team's were acting like thugs. He said "Kind of. We just got tired of taking all their cheap shots". Personally I was really disappointed when the SW team wouldn't take a knee when Justice was writhing around on the ground with his injury. All right...I just wanted to present the other side, so to speak. Normally I'm really proud of how the Bobcats behave on the field. I think that's the only team they have a true animosity for (sigh).
  11. Yep, I look for there to be some ties among region play that will make overall record important. The good news is that OS doesn't play Smith County next year, the bad news is that they play Seymour again (I mean, bad in that it could make the overall record worse in case of a tie). This year was pratically a 3-way tie for 2nd, next year it will be 5 closely matched teams fighting for 4 spots. Over-all record could be a key factor.
  12. Thanks! You both told me what I was trying to find out. That's about what I suspected but my details were sketchy. I didn't mean for my list to be in any particular order. I just wrote the names down as I thought of them. If I put them in order I think it would be like this: 1/2 OS/Wartburg or vice versa 3 Rockwood 4/5 Alcoa/Sweetwater or vice versa 6 Harriman Goose, I was (pleasantly) surprised by the Bobcats this year also. I think their success speaks a lot to the camaraderie on the team. The football game is just something they have to do so they can all go out to eat together afterwards. Seriously, there was more talent waiting in the wings than I suspected, but I was happy to see it. It's been a fun year. [Edited by cwp76 on 11-18-02 12:44A]
  13. About next year...how do you guys think most teams will do next year, in general? Please...serious discussion only, no put-downs or bragging. Here's my opinion briefly, but I'm no expert which is why I'm asking for your opinions. 1)Wartburg - I don't have a roster, but I understand they have a lot of juniors and should be better. 2)O.S - they return a lot of starters but lose Thomas Blank and a couple of others, but should be somewhat better. 3) Harriman - possible coaching change and new talent, should see marked improvement but still near the bottom of the region, 4) Alcoa - improved, but not sure how much. 5) S-water - lose a lot of seniors, not sure 6) Rockwood - not sure. I could narrow it down and ask how you think Rockwood, S-water, and Alcoa will do next year? Those are the ones that are question marks to me. I know this is a Wartburg/OS thread but I have to go where the civil discussions are, so I picked this one.
  14. And another thing...the rain and muddy field. You could tell it was hurting WB's play but OS was just the opposite. They looked like kids playing in the mud and having a ball doing it. But I think the main factor was all the disruptions and emotional upheaval of the week. It just took a toll. So I just hope the players know that everybody knows that it wasn't any normal loss.
  15. The Wartburg kids were drained from this week, you could just tell. I listened to an interview with some WB seniors on the radio and those kids are a class act. I think they'll have a great team again next year. This may sound cliche-ish, but I hate that either team had to lose tonight.
  16. OS91, that's just an old saying. Guess you gotta be over 40! Festus, if you're a lawman, no wonder you haven't been online. You're probably working just a little OT lately. So do you think the city whippersnappers can beat up on your big ole country boys? My son's going to the Country Kitchen in downtown Oliver Springs tomorrow morning to eat flapjacks and sausage so he can measure up. He's sort of puny.
  17. This is a very difficult game to figure out. Without question, most people that are not Bobcat fans want to see a Bulldog victory out of support for the Bulldogs and their community hardships, also I see of an ever increasing dislike for OS. That is evident on the Board. That's ok though. OS is well aware of that and the tidal wave of emotion Wartburg will have when they run onto the football field Friday night. Coach Frank Johnson will have the purple and gold prepared emotionally and you will see a fired up bunch of Bobcats that want to advance- bottom line. OS91, I couldn't have said it better myself. Personally the most important thing to me about a team is how they conduct themselves. With a son on the team, there have been several of the boys from the team at my house at one time or another and none of them drink or smoke or use drugs, and most are Christian boys. That's why it's sort of painful on this board to see what I think of as the bully complex, which is why I don't check in much anymore although I really enjoy the civil discussions. That reminds me, why hasn't Festus posted? I get a kick out of his comments. Hope he's OK. We got a tree through our roof that night (Sunday) also, so we had a taste of the storm, a downburst I guess. It was scary enough, I don't want to see worse. I really feel for the people who went thru the real deal, including Cumberland County, Anderson County, and Morgan County. Back to the game, I think it's a toss-up as to who will win, plus it's suppose to rain and I think that might favor Wartburg. I'm basing that upon how badly we played against Boyd-Buchanan in the rain. But if we play our best, I think we can pull it out, so I'm going to say Cats 17, Dogs 14.
  18. Yeah, I DO mean the 61/27 split. My brain and fingers are not always on the same wave-length.
  19. Oshsman, I think it's about 5 miles from 61/62 split northeast of Harriman, heading towards Wartburg (near the little shoe store, if you know where that is).
  20. GibsonJ, Please let us know if they are all right. I can't seem to find out anything besides generic news. I live near the 61/62 junction and it got a little scary here too. I just keep hoping that no kids were hurt.
  21. Hi oshsman, It's been bugging me that you may have thought I was putting you down in my posts, which I didn't intend. In fact, just the opposite. I admire the way you have guts to stand up for yourself and the team against some very ugly comments that were being made, especially in earlier threads. The only reason I said anything is bc I didn't want YOU to be hurt. OK, now that's off my chest, we can get back to the OS vs W. Greene discussions. I just thought of another reason to pull for Wartburg...if they lose and we win, the Bobcats will have to travel the 2nd week...blah!
  22. Does anyone know if this game will be broadcast on the radio(from the Wartburg station), or is it too far away? Good luck Wartburg.
  23. I don't have a clue about this team, which is why I've been checking this thread, but I'll make a prediction based on wishful thinking. OS 31 WG 7
  24. I beat around the bush a little too much, and my point wasn't too clear apparently. So, to reiterate - it bothers me that a couple of people were putting down the team for what an individual is doing, particularly someone who has nothing to do with the team. I'm not trying to put down any other team, just simply taking up for my own. [Edited by cwp76 on 11-5-02 11:46A]
  25. How ironic that you adults who are coming on here to chastise oshsman use this as an opportunity to bash the team itself, of which oshsman is not even a member. Does that not make you guilty of the same thing he is doing? We have good years as a team and we have bad years, but you'll never see any of the team on the field flexing their muscles for the crowd or spitting on the other players. Coach Johnson would jerk a knot in their tails (old saying) for that kind of behavior. Personally, I've only been involved with this school for a few years and the kids there are the nicest and kindest I've ever met in my life. That's why I am a fan and always will be. To oshsman, son you need to give it a rest. Post on the thread of teams you like and you'll find it's a lot more fun that way. [Edited by cwp76 on 11-3-02 2:48P] [Edited by cwp76 on 11-3-02 6:46P]
