  1. Thanks Goose. It all makes more sense now. Kudos to Coach Johnson for making adjustments at half-time. I was proud of the Bobcats for "clawing" their way back.
  2. First of all, hats off to Wartburg. We were fortunate to win. But my question is, why did Wartburg struggle somewhat against Rockwood, (even the win against Harriman wasn't huge), yet last night they looked awesome. It just doesn't correlate, if you know what I mean. I'm just curious.... Assuming we both win next Friday, the following Friday should be one heck of a ballgame!

    OS vs. Wartburg

If we show up in one of those white buses you'll know we made a wrong turn somewhere. Hey, maybe we can get some recruits from there

    OS vs. Wartburg

Festus, You should be getting good marks on your posts for entertainment value alone! But...OS 14 Wartburg 7
  5. OS and AC tied 14-14 in that scrimage. It was a long time ago in the spring, though. Thanks OSHSman. I guess my memory is going bad, or else I was thinking that since we didn't lose we must've won. I knew it was close. os did tie ac in the spring, but they beat them at the start of the school year.the only claim to victory ac might have is when their jv scored 14 more points.(cwp76's son-who is a player) [Edited by cwp76 on 10-28-02 8:11P] [Edited by cwp76 on 10-28-02 8:20P]
  6. Joe, OS won that scrimmage against AC. Trying to remember the score, but it was either a 1 TD or 1 FG win, maybe 17-14,OS. I still think Smith is the best team we've played (although I agree that scrimmages don't always mean that much).
  7. Hey, just for the record, the post I had above about cocky teams was referring to cocky teams in GENERAL, not necessarily Alcoa. I did HEAR that they were very cocky last year, though. I can't believe you said OS just wants to fight! To me, they seem laid back and easy going. Please don't put down my Bobcats! Oh well, about the game. I wish I could see it, because it should be a good one. Even though Alcoa had a rough night against OS bc of mistakes and bad luck, I wouldn't count on that to happen very often. Alcoa has a very good team, but so does Wartburg, so I think the winner will be whoever plays the most mistake free game this Friday. [Edited by cwp76 on 10-14-02 2:10P]
  8. FYI, representatives from TSSAA called the OS coach after both of the Sweetwater/OS games last year to apologize for the bad calls. As for the Kingston game, it is usually considered unethical to use a ref from your own town, if indeed that is true. I hope that clears things up for you concerning the viewpoint of some of the OS fans towards those 3 games. Personally I don't understand why you continually post in the OS threads, since you seem to be very bitter towards OS.
  9. Well said, although for me this could apply to several teams that have lost my respect thru their arrogance, trashtalking, bragging, running up the score, etc. I'm an OS fan, and Wartburg gained my respect last year when they beat us by NOT doing any of the above. Good luck Friday.

    Wow Boyd for real

Joe, The thing is...I felt like we played pretty good against Smith and I thought tonight...well, OS just didn't look like OS. To say we were flat is an understatement. Thankfully, all the HC stuff is over and now they can rest up and focus on football again. Not to take anything away from Boyd - but we just didn't play very well. (BTW, you're right that OS is often overlooked - earlier post. I think it's discouraging for the kids, although they mostly just shrug it off and go out and do their best. Well, except for tonight).
  11. I think too many HC festivities this week took away the focus. Now I know how Alcoa felt last week...(sigh). My son played the worst game I've ever seen him play...I hope it doesn't rain next week, I've decided we do better in the dry.
  12. Thanks! It means a lot to get a kind remark every now and then....

    OS DEFENSE

Why does TSSAA allow this? So simple to control...zero tolerance on the refs would do it. I understand that TSSAA called Coach Johnson after the Sweetwater game last year and apologized for a legitimate game winning TD being called back. I would have preferred them to fire the ref and take steps to ensure it doesn't happen again. [Edited by cwp76 on 10-8-02 9:55A]

    OS DEFENSE

Thanks Fan! Smith Cty is by far the best team we have played so far. I think that Smith is off our schedule next year, along with Boyd-B. Too bad, bc we should be better next year! Seriously, OS is a great school with great kids, and they always have fun, win or lose. Good luck on the rest of YOUR season.
  15. You are correct...Alcoa was easy, but I didn't think it would be in advance. I also didn't think LC would be easy. With our low scoring, I don't count anyone as easy in advance (except Harriman, this year). We got bumped down in the play-offs last year by Wartburg, so I worry about them too. To OSHSman, what is your prediction then? Are you saying the Bobcat defense will hold them to less than 14 pts? I hope so, but I didn't want to be over-optimistic. Aren't they suppose to have a really good QB? To Goose, we did beat Boyd last year, although I can't remember the score. It was close though.

    OS DEFENSE

Good summary! And don't forget the excellent job Stephen Conrad is doing as kicker following Lankford. Next year should be good, but what do think about the year after that? I don't see many younger big guys. But I agree about the coach (Green)! My son plays too and thinks he's excellent. [Edited by cwp76 on 10-5-02 9:11A]

    OS DEFENSE

Thanks for sharing this. What is amazing to me is how good the Bobcats are doing this year after losing practically the whole team last year. I thought this would be like a 4-6 season just based on all the kids we lost. I guess I didn't count on the heart of the younger players who were waiting to step in and fill those senior's shoes. Technically this is a rebuilding year, isn't it?

    OS-30 ALCOA-0

well, here's my opinion for what it's worth. I think it will take a good defense to stop you and Rockwood has a good defense. Rockwood is a good team. Wartburg, I'm not so sure of because we haven't played them yet but I'm guessing Alcoa vs. Wartburg will be a close game. I think the winner of that game will be in the play-offs. Keep us posted on how #2 is. Sorry he was hurt.
  19. There is no doubt that Boyd Buchanan is an exceptionally good football team that's going to be tough to beat. But my confidence in the Bobcat "D" grows stronger every week, so I'm hoping we can pull off the win. I wish we had an easy game every once in awhile! my prediction...OS 17, BB 14 [Edited by cwp76 on 10-5-02 12:29A]

    OS-30 ALCOA-0

I agree with you OSHSman. There is a lot of talent on that team, and whoever faces them in a couple of years (maybe even next year) is going to have their hands full.
  21. Congratulations Scott County! You play in a tough district and have had a lot of close games, so this is just an Oliver Springs fan who is happy for you.

    Alcoa @ OS

I think the Bobcats always have respect for teams they play, and they will have respect for Alcoa. As for the "collapse", many people feel that the OS was not outplayed by Kingston - they were outrefereed. The Bobcats have confidence in themselves though, and they always try their best, so as long as it's a fair game whatever happens will be fine. If Rockwood wins, things are going to really get interesting in the region (possible 3 way tie for 1st if OS loses to Sweetwater in week 8).
  23. I also was hoping someone would reply bc I don't know enough about Alcoa to comment. I have heard they are down this year but I guess it depends on what the definition of "down" is. I just hope the Bobcats don't under-estimate them. I don't think anyone in the district is a push-over, except of course Harriman is having a terrible year, but that game is behind us.
  24. It's hard to give credit to a team that makes a living off playing much smaller teams, and then brags about it. Too bad you can't play Wartburg and Midway anymore to try for 7-0. Next week OS will be playing someone their own size and so will you. Let's just wait and see what happens.
  25. I forgot to say earlier...Congratulations to David on the interception and also to brother Chris! Not to mention, the whole Bobcat team! I thought you guys played great. Also, I look for the offense to just get better and better, because many of the guys on offense are just now getting experience due to the fact that last year there were so many seniors playing. The good news is that there are a lot of younger kids playing and doing well, so look for next year to be good also. Go Bobcats!
