  1. Marable, Starnes, and Twilley are the only seniors. We should be pretty solid next year as well with some young guys stepping up.
  2. Just a very minor correction...KT is 2-1 in sectional games (still not too shabby)...defeated Rhea County badly in 2002 at home, lost at Bradley Central in 2004, and then won at Bradley Central in 2006 on the way to the state runner-up finish. Other than that, I completely agree with everything. You're on the money as usual. It will be an up-and-down, exciting game, but I truly believe Shelbyville is the better team (you can throw out the records at this point) and will pull it out in the fourth quarter. GO EAGLES!!
  3. I wanted to congratulate Oakland on an impressive win last night. It could have gone either way, but they made big shots at big times and fought through a lot of adversity in the first half. Shelbyville had numerous chances to win or at least tie the game, but just couldn't get the job done. Also, why in the world was that officiating crew put in that game after having the Shelbyville-Siegel game Tuesday? They did a poor job then and another very poor job last night in my opinion on both ends. Absolutely no consistency whatsoever for either team on either end of the court. Sometimes touchy calls and sometimes letting guys get hammered. It was very bad. All that said, Oakland deserved to win the game, so please don't get me wrong. On another note, I've been extremely impressed by the classiness of this thread as well as all the knowledge from everyone. It has been very refreshing. These are two terrific basketball teams with terrific head coaches and I think both will win Monday night...Oakland should win big and I think Shelbyville will pull it out because of their experience in close games against tough competition all season. By the way, a shout out to all the Shelbyville fans and students for their support. To out-number the local Murfreesboro teams and fans by a fairly wide margin was very impressive. My guess is many will make the trip to Walker Valley Monday night. Good luck to the Patriots and the Eagles!
  4. Yeah, it is crazy how seedings work out. Two years ago, Shelbyville took care of business in the district, but that very solid Oakland team was upset at Riverdale in the 7-AAA finals. Thus, Shelbyville ended up getting screwed bigtime, forcing them into an elimination game against a very motivated Patriots team. If Oakland wins their district that year, Shelbyville likely plays them in the region finals and possibly advances on to Murfreesboro. You could say karma played a role this year as a result (and maybe what comes around goes around), allowing the Eagles to slide in as a #2 seed and upset Siegel. That's why I've always, always said district tournament championships have very little importance, especially with tradition-rich programs, because the region tournaments are so much more important and, as we continue to see, anything can happen when the pressure mounts. I feel like many district champions through the years have become satisfied and then over-confident once region play begins. We see it year after year after year. I'd rather be the "hunter" than the "hunted" any day, especially in historically balanced regions.
  5. Siegel Nation is officially silenced for 2009! It is now Eagle Nation and we're lovin' every minute of it. Congrats to Coach Thomas and the Golden Eagles for a real gutty win....one of the most special wins I've been apart of. What an atmosphere and way to show up in big numbers Shelbyville...that was awesome! How 'bout the #2 seeds pulling the "upsets", although I think Shelbyville and Oakland can argue that now. Go get after the Patriots on Thursday and good luck Eagles!
  6. Congrats to the Golden Eagles. They played a terrific second half with Bobby Wilson and Seth Jarrell really stepping up in the absence of Twilley. Andrews was unreal as always. Should be a very fun atmosphere Tuesday night at Blackman. We're in store for two great ballgames! If Shelbyville plays smart and under control, they can give Siegel a run for their money for sure. I'm just so glad for Twilley and this team. He didn't deserve what he got, but these guys stepped up and rose to the challenge. They should be fired up for Siegel. And to the ref that ejected Twilley for no good reason, shame on you. This win is dedicated to you and your biased arrogant agenda. Way to stick it to him Eagles!
  7. That's the point. This was not fighting! A Lawrence County player bear-hugged Twilley and he jerked his arms off of him with an unintentional elbow swing. It was a physical game, allowed by the officials, but this was far from fighting. An ejection was absolutely uncalled for in this situation and this official should be punished accordingly. This could have ended the career of a great high school basketball player. What a shame. Just goes to show you what a showboat official with an agenda can get done with a poor judgment call. He should be punished thoroughly.
  8. I could see this coming. My post the other day talked about Lawrence County actually getting a bad break by winning the District 8-AAA championship. They got in a much tougher bracket with tougher matchups plus they were still riding the high of beating Shelbyville for the title. That is not a good combination for a team who has not won many titles through the years. That's just the sad truth. Handling success and failure is of utmost importance in tournament play. My prediction is that Shelbyville will go on to win the region because they have their focus back at just the right time.
  9. Lebanon could really scare Columbia, if not pull the upset. I see that game being just as close as the Shelbyville-Cookeville game. Columbia is coming off an emotional district championship and has not been a top seed in a good while. They may tighten up some and Lebanon, on the other hand, will place loose. If I had to bet (and I don't), I'd say all the top seeds win, but you never know in a one-game elimination setup. Oakland and Siegel will both win by 20-plus, while I think Shelbyville and Columbia will pull through in the fourth quarter. Should be fun, and for Twilley's sake, I hope Shelbyville gets by Cookeville. It would be extremely sad for his career to end because of some showboat ref with an agenda. Plus, a Shelbyville-Siegel matchup would be a lot of fun once again.
  10. It may be splitting hairs, but I think Shelbyville caught a huge break by losing this game. They are now in Cookeville's bracket and not Riverdale's in the region. Through the recent years, Shelbyville has struggled with Riverdale and has pretty much owned Cookeville. Also, drawing Lebanon is probably better than Blackman, who was the better team throughout the season but was upset by the Devilettes last night. I think Lawrence County got a tougher draw, but that's just my opinion. Congrats for winning the district Lady 'Cats. It will also be very cool to see Ashley Johnson return home with her Lebanon team. All this said, Shelbyville and Lawrence County could both be upset in the first round of the region. It is wide open this year from top to bottom.
  11. As a neutral and unbiased fan, I was looking forward to this game all year long and it lived up to the hype for the most part. Two pretty darn even teams. Hillsboro just made more big plays when it counted and earned the win. Also, I have to say it was embarrassing for Hillsboro to be outnumbered at least 4 to 1 in fan support by the folks from Paris. In addition, the 2 (not 1?) PA announcers were pathetic and extremely obnoxious. And they continually played the same CD over and over before the game and at halftime. Could someone please purchase those guys another CD or two? As good of a football program as they have, it's too bad they can't get things together very well up there. It is not a very good place to watch a high school game at all. All that said, good luck to the Burros against the powerhouse from Maryville. I'll be rooting for you and it should be a great matchup.
  12. I hear Andrews is now playing and he'll be a threat down the road if he keeps his attitude in check. He probably won't play much Friday night, though. As for the game, it should be a good one. Both teams lost a lot to graduation. Shelbyville has some solid speed and will create some mismatches for sure. Coffee County will be bigger and deeper. If Shelbyville can tackle Kanjanabout and keep him at bay, they'll have a chance for the upset. I'm not sure how good the Eagle offense will be, especially in the red zone. It will come down to the fourth quarter...I don't expect a blowout either way.
  13. Anyone know the inning and score?
  14. Agreed Randy, I was just noticing this thread and also thought this argument was very, very silly. This happens all the time all over the state, especially in tournament time. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this. It is a baseball etiqutte thing anyway amongst coaches. Besides, since when has indoor batting practice led directly to an automatic win anyway. You still have to perform when the lights come on. This is silly. Good post Randy.
  15. If I had to guess, I'm sure he or she has gotta be talking about the PA guy. I've listened to the radio guys and they do a great job over there. The PA guy is pretty one-sided from what I've heard, so I kind of agree. Maybe he'll get better or they'll get somebody else. He is annoying more than anything.
  16. Possibly Brandon Bassham at Middle Tennessee Christian - just to throw a name out there. He's been at a similar-type school and he is originally from Mt. Pleasant. I have no idea if he's even interested though.
  17. Franklin County was leading Coffee County 3-1 in the 4th and batting when I left. Shelbyville plays the winner of that game Monday at 6:30 in the loser's bracket. Lincoln County plays Lawrence County in the winner's bracket at 4 Monday. And, David, the loser's bracket final is scheduled for 5:00 Tuesday, so your bracket is correct.
  18. If anyone can give updates of any of the 8-AAA games today that would be great. Tullahoma and Lincoln County are doing battle as we speak.
  19. I agree...very, very poor re-scheduling tactics by 8-AAA. Why is only one game scheduled today when at least the other winner's bracket game could be played today. At least two games should be played on Sunday afternoon, especially considering the forecast! This tournament is going to draw out forever and ever, and there is a chance it may not finish until next Saturday or Sunday according to the forecast late in the week. The region begins on Monday. I'm a 100% innocent bystander, but this is not good. Only play one game on the weekend in a softball tournament! And then force everything into the week when the kids are in school. A lot of stupidity in my opinion...maybe they will change their minds and at least play a couple games Sunday. Who's in charge here?
  20. Games 5 and 6 are scheduled for 5:00 and 7:30 today, however the one-hour delay will push them back to 6:00 and 8:30 now. And that's if they even start on time. The late game between Coffee County and the loser of Lawrence County/Franklin County I'm afraid will never start before 9:30 tonight...it will be a late one. I think Game 9 Tuesday (loser's bracket finals) is scheduled for 5:30, but I'll double-check that today.
  21. Yes, he threw and threw extremely well. Was almost unhittable. Took a no-hitter into the seventh. Columbia had three consecutive hits with one out. Otherwise, it could have been a complete-game no-hitter and a 9-0 shutout. Shelbyville plays Lawrence County at 6:30 Friday in Manchester. Tullahoma plays Coffee County at 4:00. There are four games scheduled for Saturday, when top-seeded Lincoln County and #2 seed Franklin County get into action. This tournament is wide open. Should be fun!
  22. I know Shelbyville plays at Columbia today in the play-in game. Does anyone know the game times for Friday and Saturday in Manchester?
  23. I think the coaches met today. I think we all know the unofficial matchups, but does anyone have the inside official info, game times, etc. in Manchester?
  24. Shelbyville defeated Lincoln County 9-7 Friday night on a walkoff three-run homer in the seventh. Can someone change that home win on their CoachT schedule from April 1 to April 25? No big deal, but I don't know how to do that. Nice win for the Eagles.
  25. MrNoitAll, your login-name screams for some education and humility! For future reference, try changing your spelling of no (as in 'not yes') to know (as in 'know it all'). You'll come across a whole lot more educated because you certainly don't 'know it all' as of now...just take it from your login-name. Secondly, I'm sure you believe your Wildkittens are the best team in the district and they very well may be. However, have some respect for the other teams as well. Sure, Tullahoma and Coffee County may end up in the region tournament, but who knows? I'd have to say Shelbyville and Columbia will most certainly have something to say about that. These two could definitely pull off an upset when tournament time rolls around. Just remember it's a long season and anybody can get beat on a given day, especially if they are cocky and overconfident. Hopefully, your Wildkittens aren't as cocky and overconfident as you are...otherwise, they may regret it later on. By the way, how many appearances has Tullahoma softball made in the state tournament? Tullahoma is a football school, right? Your arguments are clueless. Get some humility...you'll be a whole lot better off in life.
