  1. I believe you might be on to something Sherlock. Walkingvol joined the dark side after getting his nose out of joint several state tournaments ago. He was last seen doing a Bobby Knight on a folding chair. On the other hand, no one has ever seen walkingvol and countrypk together. See if you can get our boy Purple and Gold to solve it. After Al Gore, he's the smartest man in the universe.
  2. The question "Div I or Div II... Who's better?" Easy, DII based on prior success and I haven't seen anything this year that would change my mind. Is that the question you wanted answered?
  3. I'm jealous! The other night I was totalling up what I've spent sending five kids to really good colleges. I'm blessed (cursed) with kids who could get into great schools including two Ivys but couldn't qualify for scholarships like our buddy purple and gold. I starting getting nauseous at $700K. I guess the real irony is that I went to a crummy old state college and got "paid" around $2000 to wrestle for four years or around $1 hour in the practice room and I was worth about what they paid me!
  4. Wasn't referring to the "last 10,20, or 30 years" but about the last 3 or 4 years which is a good indication of the current relative quality of programs.
  5. Speculation is entertaining but if success at the next level is an indication of which is superior, DII. Check out Tennessee's current All Americans and place winners in the NCAAs.
  6. That Vanderbilt is populated with students like you who put such an emphasis on modesty. I didn't think my original post was that obtuse, especially when addressing one of superior intelligence.
  7. "I never claimed to be the smartest person, just that I'm smarter than a whole lot of people. Go back and read my post carefully. You want credentials? Look me up. My name is Jon Dial, I went to CHS. I make no secret of who I am. Not only do I attend Vanderbilt University, but I actually get paid to go here (through scholarships, you know, those things you get for being smart or something?). I get somewhere around $52,000 a year to attend Vanderbilt. You can go ahead and look that one up all on your own." Jon "they call me Einstein" Dial Thank you so much! I have a senior in high school who has been accepted at Vandy and several other schools. You have narrowed the selection process by one and confirmed what I and several million Tennesseans have suspected for years.
  8. Notre Dame gets a pass on those: According to the media, the former president is to blame plus halitosis and acne. For someone who was for neither team she (based on the level of complaints and whining, I'm betting a two X chromosomes poster) is a lot more not for ND. I'm guessing she hates the Pope and is wondering why South Bend wasn't destroyed with Sodom and Gomorrah.
  9. To sum up the last several thousand posts regarding this subject. Top ten reasons BC won't wrestle Baylor (or McCallie for that matter): 10) Coach Logsdon doesn't want to. 9) Coach Logsdon doesn't want to. 8) Coach Logsdon doesn't want to. 7) Coach Logsdon doesn't want to. 6) Coach Logsdon doesn't want to. 5) Coach Logsdon doesn't want to. 4) Coach Logsdon doesn't want to. 3) Coach Logsdon doesn't want to. 2) Coach Logsdon doesn't want to. and the number on reason you guessed it 1) Coach Logsdon doesn't want to. Would've been easier if he'd change the spelling of his name!!
  10. And if a frog had glass toe he'd only hop once. Hey! I already self censored.
  11. The subject line is a synonym for hypothetical.
  12. I'm still trying to get over the irony of Jordan having a perpetual home advantage and complaining about referee bias. I know the man is an exceptional coach, so I've decided he's been watching some of Dean Smith's old films. No coach, college or NBA, could work a referee the way Smith could. I'm guessing Jordan is scoring points for next year's tournament.
  13. "To be the Best you have to beat the Best". Now you've got religion! Have the DII champion wrestly the DI champion.
  14. I was being sarcastic but apparently too subtly. My wife will be proud.
  15. Breath deeply and let your anger go. BTW, does Father Ryan have an elementary school and which grade are you in?
  16. Maybe the real wrestling god, Allen Jones, will take a liking to MTSU and underwrite its program. Unfortunately, even finding a source for underwriting doesn't completely get you clear of Title 9. In 1970, there were 9 universities and colleges with wrestling programs in Tennessee. Title 9 helped destroy most of those and 455 others. Surely, there would be enough financial support in the Nashville area to fund a DII program at MTSU.
  17. For decades Baylor and McCallie participated in the Mid South conference and not in the TSSAA. They got back in the TSSAA in the early 70s. They generally whipped all the state champions which, as is generally the case now, came from Chattanooga. Baylor and McCallie participated in the National Prep School Championships which Baylor won in 1970. I didn't go to Baylor but it and BC are the current gold standards for high school wrestling and I'm happy to give them their due. McCallie was for a long time and will be again if Connell can avoid running away good wrestlers.
  18. Thanks. I was going to help him with a history lesson but I'll post it here http://tssaa.org/schdir/records/GetTheRecord.cfm
  19. You're being generous if not magnanomous regarding CBHS' chances next year of detroning. But since it's February 2009 and hope springs eternal, why not! Heck, go out on a limb and speculate that FR will give them a run for their money.
  20. Parents of high school athletes are known for having legendary vision. I sat next to a parent (I won't name the school but their school color is Purple and they claim Gaelic ancestry) at a state soccer championship. Incredibly, he was my age (really really old) and he spotted one of the opposing players kick a ball one or two inches out of bounds. Here's what's incredible: He and I were sitting 100 feet up in the stands, another 200+ feet diagonally across the field from where he was certain the ball had gone out of bounds. Miraculously, a referee was three feet from the play and couldn't see the ball go out of bounds. Of course, he attributed the ref??™s blindness to the fact that he was Anti-Papist. Not only did the parent possess super human vision, but he was a mind reader.
  21. My tongue was firmly in my cheek. Memphis refereeing is an oxymoron.
  22. Coach Henry displays a rather equanimous attitude to getting shafted by the TSSAA. I hope his parents appreciate lack of whining on his part. I don't think I would have been so temperate in my remarks. New rules impact state duals in area TSSAA changes will hits local wrestling By Ward Gossett wgossett@timesfreepress.com ???As a coach in that region, I guess we??™re looking for perfection in an imperfect world. It??™s going to hit our region hard next year,??? Soddy-Daisy coach Steve Henry said. ???Chattanooga is an area that produced the top three Class AAA teams, the top two A/AA teams and the top Division II team (Baylor). I say it with pride and with no intention of degrading other areas of the state.??? Based on the last coaches??™ poll, that new southeastern Tennessee region includes five of the state??™s top 10 teams. Under the guidelines in place for next year, only two of those will advance to the state duals. ???I have mixed emotions,??? said Henry, whose team finished third in the state this past weekend behind Bradley and Cleveland. ???The competitor in me says that we??™ll be one of those that get to Clarksville next year, but the realist in me understands the geography of what is happening. You look on the map and Bradley is the closest school to us geographically.??? ???What??™s going to happen is that you??™re going to eliminate one of the teams from the Chattanooga area that has gone to the state in the past, and everything else stays the same,??? Henry said. ???I understand what has happened and why, but that doesn??™t mean I like it. ???I don??™t think there was a plot. But if this isn??™t an ideal situation, how do we remedy it???? Bradley has wrestled in the championship dual the last 11 years, but Bears coach Steve Logsdon can see as well as anyone that Cleveland is improving. He has shared the state title over the years with Soddy-Daisy. ???I can??™t understand why Cleveland, which is three miles from Bradley, is in one district and we??™re in another,??? he said. ???My level of frustration with pencil pushers who change rules and add to your workload as a coach with the weight management has peaked. ???For some people, it is no longer about figuring out who are the best four teams in the state as much as having equal representation.??? ON THE WEB Read Ward Gossett??™s blog on high school wrestling at timesfreepress.com
  23. We'll take BC, Cleveland, Soddy and swap you ECS, Briarcrest and a one to be named later.
  24. But won't this "even the playing field". There a number of a little better than mediocre teams that deserve an opportunity to go to Clarksville.
  25. Is "digi" short for digitalis, digital or digieatyet?
