  1. david johnson a Rossview High School graduate out of clarksville tennessee is wrestling for King College isn't he?
  2. well coach the one thing i remember the most is the tricerasaurus rex comment in practice, i think most everyone that was there that year probably remembers that. i knew i liked duck hunting for some reason, oh yeah it was the day of rest. i'm hoping lily is watching some of my better matches, i'd hate to stop by your house and them laugh when i stepped in and me not know why. hopefully she won't pick up the trip throw i used to do, it could be deadly when used against young children.
  3. i remember coach cobb telling us that from time to time. i think some of the more famous cobb speeches, involved fire and ice, burning ships, and spitting nails. maybe not in that order but all were involved. hopefully he'll read this and get a kick out of it.
  4. i'm glad we're all on the same page now. good luck keep up the hard work and whoever comes out on top in the region will have my full support. because as big as the rivalry between kenwood and clarksville is, i always support kenwood at state (maybe not openly but i do). it makes montgomery county look better when it does well in state competitions. cobb will you be at practice on wednesday? also i talked to jim on the phone earlier and he was saying that there was practice friday and i never remember having practice the day after thanksgiving, but i wouldnt mind it now. i need to go in there and realize how out of shape i am.
  5. i really don't understand how you can make such bold statements. it's one thing to have confidence in your team but it's another thing to have blatent arrogance about your team, which i might add has not accomplished to date many things that you are insinuating. you are also throwing out a lot of hypothetical situations "WHEN the guys are at their right weights" or "you can count them out BUT IF THEY DO LOSE its going to come down to the last match". so what happens IF clarksville wins the match? you have your out. you can say well we were actually the better team but we weren't at the right weight and it came down to the last match and everyone counted us out that's why we lost. Kenwood's new school technique is going to show up all old school? i don't know how you can say that. there are way too many "old school" teams in the state that would school kenwood in the "old ways of wrestling". look to my previous post about all the "old school" teams that have won the last 10 years of state championships. the last time a team that might be looked at as "new school" that won the championship was in 05. that's a very large stretch to call Franklin a "new school" wrestling program. whether old or new you have to achieve greatness to make the type of statements you are making. Kenwood has not achieved this level of greatness. you have not made it to the level to start calling out soddy, bradley, mccallie, baylor, father ryan, mba, and many of the other typical "old school" teams that have achieved the amounts of success that these teams have (and you did call them out by saying your team was going to show up ALL old school). i won't throw clarksville high in there because they haven't been on top for about 7 or 8 years and apparently you've already written them off. which is fine by me because i know longer attend the school and have put in my four years of wrestling and am proud of what the teams i was on achieved. if this clarksville high team loses to kenwood then they have countless amounts of alumni that will be disappointed in them. i'll be going to a practice or two here pretty soon and i'll know more then whether or not CHS has what it takes to win ( i have yet to declare a victor in this matchup because i don't have the knowledge to make such bold claims. i only make my predictions based on history, and that's exactly what it is history. i only hope history repeats itself in a way that favors CHS) i hate to be involved in this thread any longer because it's only becoming more and more trash talk. everyone should just let the wrestling do the talking, that includes you bigdaddy. you should leave the talking on message boards to people like me who can't make the statements on the mat anymore.
  6. bradley vs. clarksville even though for the most part bradley comes out on top. it's always a huge match for both teams. i'd have to say the biggest rivalry goes to baylor and mccallie or father ryan and mba.
  7. haha that's the montgomery county school system for ya. i think ibleedpurpleandgold is a student at vandy so you can't expect anything less than a large vocabulary and probably a plethora of useful information. i've never been known for excellent writing skills myself but i can piece together a word or two. this topic is getting way off topic with a quickness. i think bigdaddy was fishing for some other believers and really hasn't found too many. but maybe some other "new schoolers" will get on here and help his argument. bradley, soddy, mccallie, baylor, father ryan, and mba are all very old school i can only hope that clarksville high wrestling becomes as old school as they are. between those schools there's a ridiculous amount of state titles WITHIN THE LAST 5 YEARS. i don't want to even think about beyond that.
  8. oh are you one of the parents that is commuting to go to jordan's soccer practices. my dad was telling me that people from the nashville area are bringing their kids to clarksville to play. all i can say to that is WOW. when i was playing travel all the best players from my Royals team went down to Brentwood to play for the Rangers. lots of success but left a lot of guys that didnt want to play in nashville out to dry.
  9. i knew we were on the same page i was just saying why i was preaching because i've seen and experienced what he can do first hand and evidently so have you. i was just trying to establish some credibility on the subject. what's your son's name if you don't mind me asking? there's a strong possibilty we've met but with these coacht aliases we are unaware of who one another is. judging by your involvement on the wrestling board and knowledge on the subject, your son may be one of the guys in middle school that has a lot of CHS alumni excited about what they may be able to accomplish as a team in their high school years. big daddy, kenwood's two returning medalists are quality wrestlers too, and don't forget that you all have great athletes. the year that kenwood upset CHS, jordan was not the head coach and was rarely if ever involved with the varsity, and this is not too diminish what coach cobb has done for this team in the past and to date. this is a great rivalry in montgomery county and i can't wait for the match i just hope my exams are done with and i can make it back home in time to catch a glimpse at what the clarksville area has to offer.
  10. i preach cause i know from experience and it seems you know a little about him yourself. i remember the middle school soccer team thing because i was on Richview's team and everybody always thought "Montgomery Central is no good" and until he was the coach they weren't. was this Kaos team the one with Hayden on it? i knew he coached a heck of a Kaos team there for a little bit but i did not know he had a new team. just goes to show what he's capable of. The key to this whole debate between kenwood and clarksville is that clarksville cannot overlook kenwood and i doubt that they will, i know kenwood cannot and will not overlook clarksville. it's hard to look past someone you've only beaten once in the last 10 years or however long kenwood has been a school. the thing about kenwood is the years they have good teams so does clarksville. look back to kenwood's early years when clarksville was runner up and state champs. judging by the scores of these duals it was very close matches. i can't remember specifically because i wasn't in high school. but even when i was in high school, when we wrestled them it was always a, and i quote sharrock cobb on this one, "barn burner". so you can't expect any less this year either.
  11. kenwood has beaten CHS once. that year kenwood won the district but failed to win the region because jeff jordan knows how to light a fire in any team. i've witnessed jeff jordan coach soccer teams that nobody would have given a chance to win, come from the bottom of the middle school soccer league to 3rd. that was with players, some of which may not have performed to their potential had it not been for him and others perform well above the level they ever thought they could play. the same applies to his wrestling teams. this guy knows how to coach. regardless of the talent that CHS has or does not have they will not be a team to overlook in district/region. the same goes to kenwood, they seem to have a way of scaring bradley central in the duals here recently. i would say last year people thought that they would have a tough season after losing tom minwell, daniel pease, nick gosney, jon dial, and forgive me for not remembering some of the other seniors they lost to graduation in 06. this year they have weakley, grady, taylor hall, kellen ferguson, the hebda boys and several others that haven't had their shot on the mats yet. granted i haven't really seen many of the guys they have now but i will say that they will be well coached. but every year there are always people who step up for the team. when it comes to the big dance jordan has a knack for preparation. this is in no way a discredit to kenwood, cause i know they have some really good wrestlers on their team as well. i was talking with a former UTC wrestler who wrestled at CHS and he said that he thought that Clarksville practices are some of the most intense he had been in. this is coming from a guy who wrestled for terry brands. granted college level practices are going to be much tougher than high school practices but someone who has experienced some of the toughest training the highest level of wrestling has to offer is saying alot. good luck to both teams though, if my schedule permits i'll be at this match hopefully celebrating a Clarksville High win.
  12. i just wanna say congrats to cody cleveland for a heck of a match against his Ohio State opponent. Congrats to the whole UTC team they had a heck of a dual, my voice is still gone. hopefully the rest of the year goes like saturday night did with the Mocs taking down the big dogs of college wrestling.
  13. whether a team wins 5-0 or 1-0 its still a win. Portland seems to know how to get it done. They are playing schools that may be down but they are still winning. So congrats to them, good luck the rest of the season.
  14. basically what i said, minus the go portland part.
  15. quite possibly a bit of both. portland has been squeaking em out all year, but its still a win for them. I think CHS just really lacks a lot fire power on offense this year. some people are out with injuries and others couldn't play this year. either way clarksville isn't having one of it's best years. hopefully they'll put everything together and make a strong showing the rest of the season.
  16. hopefully CHS can get it done this year and start another district title streak.
  17. please do. i'd like to know how good they really are.
  18. i just want to say that i'm not down on your poll, its just that after the top 15 places its really tough to get an accurate picture of how good a team may be. i think many people pay closer attention to the eurosport rankings cause they have been around for a while ( i really don't know how long yours has been around). my argument with italyandsweden was that being ranked 30th was not room for bragging rights as of yet. anyways keep doing your rankings the way you're doing it's good to compare it with other rankings.
  19. thats the only way they would because as of now there schedule doesn't have to my knowledge any top caliber teams on it. if anything this years record ought to look nice in the yearbook. /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />
  20. i think you misunderstood what i was trying to say, but i do think were both on the same page. i think we can both agree upon the idea that dickson county, as of now, should not be ranked much higher than what they are. especially not because they are undefeated. thats where the football came in. an undefeated team isnt and shouldnt always be the number one team in the polls. right now the best teams in state have already given each other losses in the bearden tournament.
  21. very good point. I still believe dickson has as good a chance this year of winning the district as they have in well over a decade but i don't see the point of getting on coacht and tooting their horn. a top 30 ranking in a poll that probably doesnt have a whole lot of legitimacy to it means very little. IF Dickson wins district get on here and say great job while you can because it'll probably be a few days later that their season will be over when they play hendersonville or gallatin, and thats being realistic. That district is much stronger than district 10.
  22. thats my thought also. i hate to bring up NCAA football but boise state was undefeated and they didn't end up number 1, a team with a loss did.
  23. true but what kind of testament is it being ranked 30th in AAA on the coacht.com soccer board ranking. it is progress though. It's ashame they haven't played any of the big name teams that are always ranked in the Redmond 11 or the eurosport top 10, just to see how they would fair against them. a win or loss to some of the better tennessee teams can really show what a team has skill wise or lack there of.
  24. if you really want to get right down to it no teams in district 10 are really all that great this year. I would have to say that clarksville, rossview, and dickson all have as good a chance as the others to win district this year. dickson beat northeast by one point, northeast tied kenwood, clarksville beat kenwood 3-0 (eurosport says that but i heard it was worse). i could go on with this chain of wins, ties, and losses but the fact is this is probably the most even this district has been in years. In terms of taking their licks early in the season Clarksville High has definitely been baptised by fire. Rossview has also played some quality teams. both have lost to these ranked teams. it ought to be interesting.
  25. this thread took a turn for the worst.
