  1. How many of the middle schoolers were state champs?
  2. I haven't been in the room for a few years. With that being said, I think that there is a multitude of issues. I don't think that coaching is THE issue. I think it starts with the kids in the school. From what I've been told it has been difficult for many of the athletics programs at CHS getting committed kids out to participate and buy in to the programs. Honestly, the wrestling program was at such a high level for so long it may have become daunting for some kids to want to participate. The athletes playing football or other sports don't seem interested and only make it for a week (it's been like that for 20+ years) for one reason or another. The other sports have gotten so specialized and only want kids focusing on their main sport. Fall and Spring sport coaches should be pushing their kids to wrestle for the benefit of the strength, conditioning, and confidence building wrestling provides. The team at the top can't always be at the top. CHS is pretty close to the bottom now and can only look up from this year. Deadlift has a heck of a feeder program going now and things should be on the uptick. If they can meet or exceed the level of competition the late 90's, early and mid 2000's teams had they'll be back on top for sure. The writing on the wall has been there. Those involved in the program saw this coming and the ones involved see what's coming next. We can only stay tuned, support the program, and see where those working in the room and building the program back up will take it.
  3. I hate to break it to everyone that thinks Rossview is the first district loss Clarksville has received in 20 years. Next time many of you visit the CHS wrestling building try to find a 2004 District Champion plaque. A Johnny Masters coached Kenwood team handed them a loss in District duals. 10 years is a long streak but credit needs to be given where it is due. The Kenwood teams of the late 90's and early 2000's were tough teams and barely lost to some of the best teams Clarksville ever produced. Congrats to Rossview for their first win ever over Clarksville High in Wrestling, 14 years in the making!
  4. I don't think anyone was singling your boy out specifically. They were just saying in general that everyone wasn't out on the mat yet. How many pounds can you lose a week? Is it even possible to get there according to hydration rules? If not, I guess we'll see a shake up at HWT.
  5. Congrats to Beech and Dickson on 1st and 2nd place per track wrestling.
  6. My thoughts exactly. That and my memory doesn't recollect any duals appearances before that.
  7. When then? If you know that I'm incorrect then correct me with a year. I can't remember that far back, I was in elementary school and my region championships t shirts don't fit anymore so I can't recall. 😉
  8. Clarksville has been to the Duals since 1998 if I'm not mistaken.
  9. What were the final results of the tournament?
  10. For years Clarksville has not been known as a team that shoots. When they did it was ugly. Hopefully this year will have noticeable improvement. Notscared, I believe deadlift was saying that CHS would be doing stuff not usually seen in region 7. Everyone knows that CHATTANOOGA is where all the Tennessee wrestling Gods reside. Lowly everyone else is just playing catch up, right? (Note the sarcasm)
  11. I don't think any head gear would offer concussion protection. I'm under the impression it's sole use is for the ears. The only thing that can prevent concussions are the referees properly enforcing the rules. That and cushy mats.
  12. Where are the updated brackets?
  13. Young is 19, therefore no longer a minor by over a year. The paper may have tarnished his image but from what I see the story focuses mostly on the attorney and judge. There is no grounds to file a lawsuit against the times. Where was there libel? The first test in a libel case is about whether or not what was written true. Well is the info true?
  14. I sure don't. Hopefully the leaf chronicle will tomorrow. We'll see if they actually cover wrestling for once aside from today's paper.
  15. Clarksville over Hendersonville 54-15
  16. Hendersonville over Rossview 30-27. Clarksville over Beech 55-11 (or something similar) Hendersonville vs. Clarksville to start soon.
  17. This should be good then. I'm excited to come watch. What will they be calling it? The Easter Bunny Bash /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> since it is on the night before Easter.
  18. Elaborate on this a little more coach. I talked with my dad a little bit and I know some of the details but myself and others would like to know who's fighting, is it the wrestler's or others that are a bit older that train for this regularly? Any other details you can give would be great and maybe better promote it.
  19. You've only lost to Clarksville a handful of times? So you must have only wrestled Clarksville only a handful of times then. There are only two or three teams that we consistently lost to (Soddy and Bradley over the last 10 years and Father Ryan). If you're such a wonderful coach then why are you on a computer talking trash to college kids and old men and not at State? Do you own a state of the art phone so you can talk trash and lead your young men to titles? Why don't you tell who you are so we can laugh at you for being such an ######, why don't you tell who you are so the man that you supposedly look up to and have admired for so long (Jeff Jordan) knows who you are. Stop hiding and Grow up ( I don't care how old you are!). Tyler Ziolkowski
  20. What about Purple with a little Gold?
  21. You're thinking of a different JORDAN, the JORDAN they are speaking of is HAYDEN JORDAN a 125 for Clarksville. He has had an injured shoulder for a while and the William Blount guy was riding legs and trying to turn Hayden. It just so happened that he cranked on his bad arm a time or two (not mean spirited just working his butt off to get to the finals) and the match was stopped a time or two. With 39 seconds left Hayden hurt it again and was down by 6 so Coach Jordan ended the match. I'm sure he stopped it due to the fact that Hayden is a freshman and has many matches ahead of him and as I have thought for years that this kid is going to be great, showed just that this week. I wish Hayden the best of luck in the years to come. I can't wait to see the youngest Jordan (Satchel, sp?) wrestle in high school. I had a conversation with the 7 year old yesterday and he informed me that he'd been "playing" wrestling since he was 3 and was undefeated. Him being the youngest of 5 brothers and sisters tough as nails, you won't be able to expect anything less from him. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> All this yelling about JORDAN makes me feel as if I'm watching a Chicago Bulls final back in the 1990's. Easy mistake
  22. Here's a blog by one of the Leaf Chronicle sports writers from last week. Hopefully this gives some more insight on the issue. Coaches need to stop crying about state duals Posted by georgerobinson at 2/9/2009 10:04 PM CST on theleafchronicle.com I'm sure not many of you know who Ward Gossett is. He's the sports writer for the Chattanooga Times Free Press and he knows everything there is to know about high school wrestling in Tennessee. He covers some of the most dominating programs in the state with the likes of Bradley Central, Soddy Daisy, Notre Dame and Cleveland. Ward's a good guy and a good writer and he's been a heckava help to me during my three years at The Leaf-Chronicle. Well it seems that Gossett wrote an article this weekend, after the state wrestling duals at Clarksville High, about how most of the coaches (or eastern Tennessee wrestling coaches) are fed up with Clarksville hosting the state duals. According to his article, schools like Bradley and Cleveland find it an unfair advantage for CHS to hold the event. They feel like the TSSAA should revert back to the old way of rotating the state duals, instead of allowing Clarksville to host it each year. Now I don't hold any bias on this issue because I'm neither a graduate of CHS or a native of Clarksville. I'm from Louisville, Ky., so my allegiance lies somewhere 3 hours north of here. But I'm not really getting the whole argument because I'm not too sure I agree with the whole "unfair advantage" that Clarksville supposedly has. Last time I checked, CHS won the state championship (its only one) in 2000. That's 9 years ago! They been state runner up about two other times? Bradley has won it three times in four years. Notre Dame won 3 straight in A/AA before Saturday's loss to Hixon. So who has the advantage again? Oh yeah, that's right -- Clarksville. Listen, journalist know probably better than most that you're not going to please everyone all the time. You're certainly not going to make a ton of friends when you're hosting a state event (just ask Middle Tennessee State). But even Soddy coach Steve Henry said it himself (in Gossett's article) that before CHS hosted the state duals, the tournament was run poorly. Since CHS has hosted it, it's been taken to a new level. I'm not ready to hand any state titles to CHS just because it's their gym everyone is in. At the end of the day it's about those kids on that mat and I've witnessed three state duals and I have yet to see any kid or team "exhausted" from travel. I heard the complaints this weekend. I heard the parents complain about the air conditioning. I heard one actually suggest that her husband (who apparently is a air conditioning expert) would be wiling to fix CHS' problems. I heard the complaints about how CHS's wrestlers get to wrestle on their own mat. Excuse me but I saw Soddy dominated the Wildcats on that mat for third place just as CHS beat Independence on that mat prior to facing Sodd ... as if that mat held some sort of magical powers. I can see why teams would favor a rotation, but the truth is, Nashville wouldn't be that interested in holding the 3A or A/AA state duals. They already hold the private school state tournament. I'm not sure Murfreesboro would want it (they have Spring Fling). If you think the eastern Tennessee schools hate driving to Clarksville, they're certainly not going to haul their people to western end of the state like Jackson or Memphis. Clarksville's the host for now and they've been a pretty good host at that. The CHS team, led by Artie Manning, have to do a thankless job and a daunting one at that. So appreciate what you have before it's gone.
