    AA Title

I just think what is great is that as of today (thursday) the two teams in the winners bracket are both from 8AA. Being an alumnus from a school in that district, I have to give respect to the teams that play state champion caliber teams all season long. From Lipscomb and Greenbriar, to Hume Fogg (state tourney last year along with lipscomb, and win against Gibbs this year) and Macon Co. (beat both Lipscomb and Hume Fogg this year in regular season and tournament play), it is OBVIOUS that this is the best and hardest district to play in. Congrats to all the girls that play such a tough schedule. It could have been any two this year in the tournament. Good luck to Lipscomb and Greenbriar. I say Greenbriar wins it all though, just my thoughts.

    8AA????

i'm gonna sound like an idiot on this one... but i really thought this tournament was single elimination... since they played round 1 today and I'm pretty sure the teams that lost are done. If I remember correctly, that's how it's been the past couple of years. but i might be getting that disease where you forget things... what's it called again? I can't remember...

    8AA????

Greenbriar is the number 1 seed, having split with Lipscomb, and not losing another district game. Lipscomb is the number 2 seed, having split with both Greenbriar and Hume Fogg, and that loss to Macon Co. Hume Fogg is the number 3 seed, having lost twice to Greenbriar, and split with Lipscomb. The tie-breaker between Hume Fogg and Lipscomb is their record against the higher seed. Lipscomb (1-1 against Greenbriar) wins the tie-breaker against Hume Fogg (0-2 against Greenbriar). Hope this helps.

    8AA????

Irish... the only thing that is not right about your prediction is that LIpscomb and Hume Fogg have to play eachother before the finals, so one of them won't make it to region. So it will be Greenbriar and Hume Fogg/Lipscomb.

    8AA????

well it's either gonna be Greenbriar, Lipscomb, or Hume Fogg. These three teams all pick up their game in the tournament, and it's hard to tell who will go. Macon Co. doesn't have what it takes to beat one of these teams during the tournament. They beat Lipscomb earlier in the season, but they won't make it in the tournament unless they really pick up their game. I don't know much about Macon Co. so it could be very possible, but I've seen the way the other three play, and there is a fire under their... body during the tournament. It's hard to beat them when they play like that.
  6. yeah i wasn't sure how the tiebreaker would play out. I know that Lipscomb lost to Greenbriar, Hume Fogg, and Macon Co. And that Hume Fogg lost to Greenbriar twice, and Lipscomb. So I wasn't sure if the loss to Macon Co. would cause Lipscomb to come in third, or if it would have any implications at all. Who knows, you're probably right. We'll find out for sure soon enough when the tournament starts, right?
  7. that should make district 8 AA look like this, as long as my math is correct and the few remaing games turn out the way I expect them to: 1. Greenbriar 2. Hume Fogg 3. David Lipscomb 4. Macon Co./Springfield 5. Springfield/Macon Co. 6. Portland 7. Martin Luther King 8. Station Camp The 4 and 5 spots depend on a game tomorrow between macon co and springfield. Good luck to both teams. and good luck to all teams in the district. [Edited by PCNumba1 on 4-28-03 7:45P]
  8. I think very highly of the girls at Macon Co. and I agree that they have had some good games. Beating Lipscomb was a huge win for them, and they have played hard in every other game I'm sure. However, I really don't think that they will beat Greenbriar, Lipscomb, or Hume Fogg if those teams play to their ability. Macon Co. might be able to win if the other team has a bad day, or a key injury, but at full strength and playing well, Macon will probably lose. I say probably b/c anything can happen on any given day, but my bets are on the top 3. Greenbriar, Hume Fogg, and Lipscomb.
  9. yeah this game now changes a lot of things. Lipscomb now has 3 district losses (macon co, HFA, and Greenbriar). it's gonna be a great district tournament for Greenbriar, HFA, and Lipscomb. Hope I can get back in town to see some games. Good luck to the girls and all the teams. Two of these 3 will go to state. I guaruntee it.
  10. Who won this game tonight? If anybody knows it would be great to find out. Thanks.
  11. not trying to be mean or anything, but you'll probably have more luck with a BASEBALL question... if you put it on the BASEBALL board... not the softball board. just a thought.
  12. For AA: Tie 1) David Lipscomb, Greenbriar, Hume Fogg. 1.5 (not second, b.c they are better than that) Gibbs 2) East Ridge, Unicoi Co. Sorry for not ranking, but these teams are so evenly matched right now, that any one of them could win state on any given day. Hume Fogg beat Gibbs, but lost to Greenbriar. Greenbriar beat Hume Fogg, But lost to Lipscomb. Lipscomb beat Greenbriar, but lost to Macon Co. I don't know much about Gibbs, but I saw them play this weekend, and they are a very talented team with a lot of good hitters. I haven't heard much about East Ridge or Unicoi Co this year, but since East Ridge was one win short of state last year, and Unicoi won state, I'm sure that they still have great teams this year. The biggest thing to remember right now is that there is still a lot of ball to be played, and who knows what tomorrow has in store, or the next day. Good luck to all the girls on these teams. 13. first of all... LCpanthers95 needs to learn how to spell "our" second of all, thank god somebody finally said that both sides have some responsibility. Time2Play, i commend you, and if I know how to give good marks, you'd get one for your statement. So somebody who does know, give them one for me. But you're right, there should be a responsibilty by both coaches, even if the football coach is only doing it to get the soccer team off his field. He is making a postive impact on a lot of kids, which is beneficial to not only the school, but the district, the county, and the state. How many home games can a soccer team play if they don't have a home field because they are not allowed to play on the football field? How much pride can a school have in that team? It turns out that the soccer team would lose any support that they do have, which would lose students who really want to play soccer other schools, and (this may be stretching a little) but taking away money that the football team would earn by that students support. There must be actions by both coaches putting pressure on the school and the school board in order to have positive reactions which will benefit the kids. And the kids are the important ones at the school. They make up the football team and the support that the team gets. Kids are the reason we have schools, and we must not forget that they are there to get an education, and sports are simply a benefit. Positive actions will help any situation, whether it is soccer, football, or education. Period. End of story. Simple as that. "Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're right."
  14. there is no doubt that it will be a good game. these are truly two of the best teams in the state right now. Wish I could be in town to see it happen. But i do have to say, GO HFA!!!!!!!
  15. I agree that the responsibility must be shared between the COACHES of the football team and the COACHES of the soccer team (yes there is more than one). There should be some sort of plan as to how the field should be kept and maintained. The fact that football is played on Bermuda doesn't matter, soccer is played on Bermuda too. It's the best type of grass for any sport. But let's get back to the original reason for this thread, should soccer games be played on football fields? Yes, if there is no other suitable alternative. If there is a suitable alternative, then soccer and football should be on separate fields simply for the reason of field maintenance. But when a school has no other suitable alternative for the soccer team, then there must be sacrifices made. No questions about that. The sacrifice will not be to cut the soccer team, although I'm sure there are numerous coaches and players that will read this and think that.
  16. Time2Play... here's the problem with your thing about the football coach not being paid for upkeep. There is much more damage done to a field during football season than there is during soccer season. The land between the hashes is pretty much trashed by the end of the season (well it is if you are any good), and then grass doesn't grow over the winter, so the soccer team has to deal with there being no grass in the middle of their field. I'm not saying that is the football teams reponsibility to fix the field FOR the soccer team, but instead it is the football teams responsibility to fix THEIR SHARE of the damage. Just as it is the soccers teams responsibility to fix their share of the damage. But a soccer team doesn't do that much damage to a field. When I played soccer, if we did any damage to the field (divits, etc.) we would fix it right after the game. It was the players responsibility to fix the field, and we did our fair share immediately after the game. Both teams should fix their share of the damage not for the other team, but for the benefit of the field and the school.
  17. It's the school's field. Not the football teams. Not the soccer teams. Not the taxpayers. Not the neighbors. It's the schools. The football team uses it. The soccer team uses it. Sometimes the track team uses it. Everybody puts in their fare share to upkeep and financial support. Trust me I've played both sports. The guys on the football side of the argument don't know the soccer side, and the soccer side don't know the football side. Both teams do support the field with time and money.
  18. First of all, let me say that I played soccer in high school, and now I'm the starting kicker for my college. Since I played both sports, I have a view on both sides of this argument. Even though I understand the football argument, you have to admit that soccer does very little damage to the field. In fact when I played in high school, we played our games on the football field, and the field was fine. Soccer does much less damage to a field than football does. It in no way does any amount of damage that cannot be fixed in the offseason. As for soccer players being communists... first, learn to spell. Second, soccer originated in England, not the former communist state of the USSR, so soccer players cannot be communists. They should be monarchists.
