What better way for GP to win than to beat their most hated rival ....(the Yank-Red Sox of high school baseball) .... the game lived up to all the hype ... what a swing of momentum ..... congrats to the Cougars on number 6 ... all the alums and former players are so proud that your keeping the tradition going lets go for round two in 08 ... what ya say USJ ...lets play for the title again next year ... hopefully it will as good as this classic was ..... May have been the best state final ever ( just ahead of 03 final between USJ and Davidson) USJ has a great team ... nothing to ashamed of ... and Liles is one heck of player will he go to UT or the draft?

Jon Miller hit 4 HR and drove in 16 runs Chase Pressley also hit 4 HR in this state tournament and drove in 12 rbi as a team FCS is hitting .371 with 12 HR scoring 55 runs as a team JCS is hitting .453 with 10 HR scoring 72 runs Should be a slugfest

I will totally agree it will intensify over the rest of the decade ....in 2004 benches cleared, this year GP hits a 3-run walk off homer to beat USJ by rallying from 8-6 down to win 11-8

and USJ has how many titles 3 (would say 4 .. but you had to forfeit that last one)...... btw this is GP's 11th trip just USJ 9th ... 5 state titles for GP as well ... so USJ you might have 7 in a row ..... but you dont have the tradition that GP does .... GP went the state tournament 6 times when just 4 teams made it ... 5 since the new expanding formate that allows 8 but since 2000 ..... you guys have been building your own tradition and this rivalary is turning into a good one

some people say the 04 because they were state champions, but the two best teams there in school history did not win a championship that season 2003 and 1996 ... the 1996 team was loaded of 22 players on the roster 17 played college baseball for atleast a season .... also the 2000 team was pretty good too

If you saying that we went out recruited our team , that is simply not true ..... of the 20 players on the 1997 team .... 19 of them were there before coach forehand was there, when our baseball program was not very good. And yes i agree with you about it being two different leagues, because when I went to college it was different ....back in those days there were 3 good teams GP, DA, and CA , and the other 5 fought for the #4 seed .... and yes big chief, Jeff was not only my coach, but also one of my closest friends ..... there arent many coaches like him, but like you said he was an even better person. but now onto tommorrow's games ..... 10:00 am CA vs Heritage .... rematch of the series that was split this week 1:00 pm Houston County vs ER .... the Irish try to keep thier season going on their home field 4:00 pm McEwen vs Jo Byrns ...... we had fun because our coach let us have fun off the field, but we were all business between the lines and our goal was to dominant every opponent and leave no doubt to everyone who was the best ..... over a 6-year period we advanced to 4 state tournaments (when only 4 qualified) won 3 titles an one runner-up and twice lost in the sectionals. We told teams what we were going to do, and then went out and backed it up .... we wanted to take our opponents heart every game and crush it and show them they were no match for us We went and played .. then won .. and said ....NEXT ? And yes we were cocky but we had a reason to be .... only lost 9 games to class A teams during that span 1994-1999

I played on two of those at goodpasture and coached there for one more .... and yes I am a little cocky but when you win as much as we did you have a right to be ...... That stinks that those rules came from the administration ... I know at GP that would have never happened .... our coach didnt care if the parents were happy, but we had fun because we won ..... I dont coach anymore ... I am looking to coach next year somewhere ... anywhere that wants to win ........

Let me ask you who you rather throw in a elimination game ... winner goes to district title (and region) loser goes home ... your ace or your #2 ......... And don't under-estimate Houston County either ..... their record may not be as good as yours but don't take them lightly playing on their home field ..... now their is my case for pitching your ace in game one (and by the way I have about 3 more state titles than your coach, so I know a little bit about how to coach in a tournament)

In lose or go home game ... you have through your best pitcher available .... plus look if he pitches saturday he could come back and pitch again tues or weds .... but he throws monday then he is done for the tourny unless the coach wants to risk injury to the pitcher ... he might could pitch a inning or two of relief but thats about all ...... all East fans need to do is remember when they had Blake Owen and Justin Bush in the same rotation and couldnt get out of the district .....

Houston County and CA are both 5-9, CA beat ER, Heritage, EL, HC, and McEwen HC beat CA, EL, Heritage, and swept McEwen so with the win over East Robertson CA wins the tiebreaker and is 5th ... so ERBaseball25 your parings are correct

Baseball is not rocket science ... you either play or you dont. ....... teams have from March 12 till to May 4 (depending on when your district tournament starts) to play 32 games ... now onto the issue about too many tournaments, yes there probably are too many teams hosting tournaments, but I am sure others would love to if they could as well .... plus also kids like playing tournaments as a former players I loved it going to different schools playing against better competition, as a coach sometimes it was hard to figure out our pitching staff, but we did always and never pulled out of a tournament .... my only complaint with Dobyns-Bennett pulling out was.. why did you only bring 14 players, if thats all you guys have then you shouldnt playing in tournaments that will extend your pitching ..... but why not bring a JV kid up to travel for the weekend .. there were other things DB coaches could have done before they left fot the tournament ... and yes I blame the coaches ... so are the coaches from DB going to tell TSSAA the same thing if they run out of pitching in the state tournament and they still have have to play the state championship ........ as my former school used to have as a motto "play every game like the state championship"

Here is a pretty good idea for the district, divide each of the 8 teams into two pools of 4 and play double elmination that way . one bracket 1vs8 4vs5 two bracket 2vs7 3vs6 lets the #1 seed host their bracket and #2 host theirs then let the winners of the two brackets play a one game winner take all championship game with those two teams advancing to the region tournament some of the 8-team districts do this already .... just and idea

if it the same as in years past when I was coaching in this district ..... then the vote has to be unanimous .. no majority
