  1. If the band is anything like last year they're outstanding. I was very impressed with the Mustang band last year during their visit to the Mountain. Del (who won't make any game predictions for reasons known best by Antwan and Fanman.)
  2. Look at the bright side Del. Now you get to go see them play. Probably not. I took the wife and boy to the movies. I tried to call after the movies to several cell phones to get a score. No luck. So we drove past the field. Game was 14-14 obviously after the first overtime. We sat on the highway for a couple of minutes and I kept thinking "I shouldn't be here." Told the wife I had to get out of there before I jynxed them. Obviously it was too late and the curse of Moose floated out of the Blazer window and over the field. I'm sorry boys. It was my fault not yours. Del.
  3. Just got the call. Pirates win on the Mountain. So much for what tnaquarius knows. Del.
  4. I hope by 14 or more, but I'd be more apt to believe the leg of B.B. Layne will be the difference. Grundy by 1-3. Del.
  5. I agree McCallie 31 Notre Dame 14 McCallie all the way. Del.
  6. CoachT, I'd like to apply to be a moderator so I can lock up threads like this. Whitwell, Boyd....... "Let it go Louie. Let it go." - Budweiser commercials. Del.
  7. Once the Pirate win streak was broken in 1988 these teams have been fairly even since. (Although I don't know the record since 88 and I'd love to.) I think knowing that it's been back and forth for several years now gives a lot of respect. I think this will be a close and a great game. Of course I'll have to watch it on GCTV because I'm afraid to go and jynx the boys. Good Luck Jackets!! I'll probably be calling cell phones throughout the game to know how it's going. Del.
  8. Bee, Don't you love me anymore? How can you talk about my Jackets that way? And after we were so nice to Smith County last season. Big win on long road trip. Pinto Beans in the concession stand. And I still called in the score even when you spanked us. Mind your manners now. Del. No love from the Bee. She won't even respond. Del.
  9. Chris Pickett is a very good coach and his record shows he has lots more wins than losses. He is the winningest coach in Grundy history. And NOBODY loves his players more than Chris Pickett. He's like a brother to me so taking shots at him won't win favor with me. Del. Pickett is a joke he cant win a big game and just why do you think he left Cookeville. Can anybody win in Cookeville? Pickett took Grundy to the quarterfinals in football during his tenure and helped keep the baseball team in the running for the state. No one else has done that yet on the mountain. But I'm not going further with this arguement with you. Chris is my friend. I know his good qualities and his shortcomings. You have as much chance to turn me against him as you do winning a first grade spelling bee. Go scratch. Del.

  11. I think the entire English department should resign before anyone should worry about the athletic department. Or to put it in a better light.... If you filled out a job application for me like your posts you would go in the round file after I read the second line. Del (who hopes someone prints these posts for the English department at Celina. )
  12. Please leave the internet and go back to English class. You need to worry about that far more than football and baseball. Del (who wonders who's minding the spelling bee at Celina?? )
  13. Bee, Don't you love me anymore? How can you talk about my Jackets that way? And after we were so nice to Smith County last season. Big win on long road trip. Pinto Beans in the concession stand. And I still called in the score even when you spanked us. Mind your manners now. Del.
  14. I couldn't agree with you more. I have said for a few years now that our region kills us because the competition is usually weak. I would also say that winning your region puts a team in really good shape to win a state title. I have nothing but respect for Region 4. Del.
  15. tnaquarius, I'd give a quarter to know who you were. Del.
  16. I realize we're talking about a fan poll and this has been discussed before...BUT... Do you think we could have a little reality with the first place votes? I personally think a team shouldn't have any first place votes if they have a loss. However some might argue "What if that is to a higher class team?" Then I'd say for sure a team shouldn't have any first place votes if they've lost to a team in their same class...especially in their own region. I'm all for loyality to your team and school spirit, but if everyone voted with a little more logic the fan poll would probably be far more accurate than the AP Poll. There's more eyes on sports for CoachT than the AP ever dreamed of. Anybody else agree with this thinking? Del. [Edited by DelTavian on 9-9-02 12:46P]
  17. I would not be so sure Grundy Co. is playing some good football right now and it being on the Mountain the 1st Home Game I give the edge to the Yellow Jackets! My Pick! Grundy County 38 South Pittsburg 21 [Edited by Sequatchie on 9-8-02 11:34P] I don't see either team scoring that much in this one. I think it could be a 17-14 game or 14-13. Just a hunch. Del.
  18. If they beat those three they'll be 10-0 at the end of the regular season. Book it. Del.
  19. What's up elk? How's the new arrangements? And ok, I'll keep an eye out for Coffee. But there are bigger tests before them anyway. Del (who's going fishing, hunting or both with the boy this afternoon.) and who caught a nice catfish ) [Edited by DelTavian on 9-9-02 8:45A]
  20. Too bad Ronnie Carter doesn't get cable/radio from down there. Maybe someone should send him a tape. An announcer like that should be removed. Most times the grown ups set the worst examples. It's a shame. Del.
  21. So far the Jackets' schedule looks promising. Looking at the entire 10 teams we play they have a 7-16 record. Grundy's only tests look to be... South Pittsburg Howard Marion Co The other games look to be easy as those teams don't seem to be fairing too well. Del (who still won't go to a game as long as the Jackets are doing well. I don't want to jynx them. I'll keep the curse of Moose far away from them.)
  22. UTC has little local talent on their roster. Grundy has had two players there but I can't say they were recruited. I know there's an Indian on the roster from Sequatchie. What about other SVC schools? Del (who isn't real proud of his alma mater UTC and hasn't been to a football game there since I was a student.)
  23. Indian, We have no middle school but have a 7-8th grade team that Ken has control of and staffs. Trouble is with 6 elementary schools to pull from the coaches don't have during the day contact with players most of the time. We'll have to get a middle school to ever have the kind of program Ken wants. And I've said this before, I don't see that coming due to $$ we don't have. And the reports I have are the Junior Jackets haven't faired well at all so far this year. Del.
  24. Saying that Grundy is the best in the Sequatchie Valley is an unbelieveably BOLD statement that Ken won't make nor will anybody else with sense. That's a tiny limb to be on this early in the season. Saying Grundy will have little trouble winning the region is also more than the coaching staff is willing to say. I've already heard major concerns about a Howard team that we beat 7-6 last year and that killed Brainerd last week. Ken has also commented several times that all the region teams were young last year and bringing lots of folks back. Saying Grundy doesn't have the raw talent is off the mark in the fact that I'd stack our starters up against anybody in the state and feel we can be competitive. K.T. Mainord, Kyle Brewer, Justin Bryant, Derek Byers, Joey Cook and Dustin Fults are Deadly! B.B. Layne is kicking very well. We have several players who could easily be first team all state. Our biggest trouble is depth. if one of those key guys gets hurt we could be in big trouble. Grundy has a very talented class of juniors right now. But in the overall program we may have trouble improving faster than everybody else. Our feeder program leaves much to be desired. And while Ken is a very talented coach it's hard to make chicken salad out of chicken litter. Until the program is fully in place down to the 11-12 year old level and the pee wee teams have a reduced focus or are done away with it will be hard to build a Jasper type dynasty. So basically tnaquarius, I disagree with almost everything you've said. Where are you from and how do you know so much about the Grundy program? Del (who believes that Grundy's best chances are this year and next because of the talent that is on the field right now.)
  25. tiger34, I can't provide more details because I didn't go. I retired from the sports business in June so I could fish more with my boy. After seeing the score last night though I'm sure I know part of the answer. I've been involved covering Grundy football since 1991. They've never got out of the gate in any of those seasons like they did last night. Obviously I'm a jynx. So I won't be going to any of the games as long as things go like last night. I want the boys to win. I don't want to bring any bad luck to them so I'll stay out of the way and root from afar. Del (who thinks I have the curse of Moose and obviously bring bad luck with me. )
