  1. And...... Whitwell will win by 21 or more. Del.
  2. Ok Stupid Announcer Tricks fans someone has blown life back into the subject. Go to the football board and read the Whitwell vs. St. Andrews thread. Del.
  3. Please refer to the "Stupid Announcer Tricks in McMinnville" thread on the Softball board. There is a protocol for announcers. But most in high school announcing in this area don't seem to follow it. Del.
  4. No middle school is what is killing Grundy in football, wrestling, softball and volleyball. If Grundy could get a middle school those programs would improve. There are many that wouldn't want it however because of elementary basketball. That's a real big deal up here and those programs help the high school in the fact that they give a lot more kids the chance to play than would get it if there were just one school. Coach Colquette really wants a middle school. I don't see it happening any time soon for one BIG reason....MONEY. Del.
  5. I'd bet on Marion this year. Del.
  6. The Team numbers our basicly even! Apparently you haven't seen Sequatchie in scrimmages they crushed Lookout Valley in the jamboree and was driving again with backups in when time ran out. They had Marion Co. beat and fumbled inside the 25 on one drive and a dropped pass (could have been interference) inside the 5 yardline. A Defensive let down allowed Marion Co. to get into scoring position with a nice option run by the QB. I think the game being in Dunlap is a Big Plus! The INDIAN players are hyped this year and think they can play with anyone they were very upset that they let Marion Co. score in the Jamboree. [Edited by Sequatchie on 8-27-02 2:40P] I love my Jackets and always will. I will always root for them over any other team...but... That doesn't mean I'm going to just blindly pick them because I covered them for 11 years. That being said.....for what it's worth.....in the Big Ones for this week.....I picked Sequatchie. Del (who hopes the boys from the mountain prove me wrong and cost me a pick.)
  7. Somehow, I think God has bigger things to attend to... Amen, Swamp. While I have loved football all my life I just don't see it being that high on God's list...... Except for when the Cowboys play. That is why they never closed in the dome you know. Del.
  8. There is no benefit for either of those teams to be involved with Finley Stadium. That game belongs in the valley. Why should their fans drive to Chattanooga when they're so close to each other. It was a smart move by the schools to move it home. Del.
  9. The schedule lists Howard vs. Brainerd. The Big Ones list has Howard vs. Notre Dame. Which is right? Del.
  10. CoachT, You didn't have to move it up the boards, just get someone to go back and count the hits. I figure there had to be at least 50k. Del.
  11. Where were these hit counters when the mighty "Stupid Announcer Tricks" thread was alive and well?!?!?! I want someone to go back and count the hits on that thread! Del.
  12. First Murphy Fair tries to change Grundy's name in the playoff program last year, and now the Times Free Press tries to do the same in their preview of the season. Ok boys and girls....... All sports teams at Grundy County High School....(located in Coalmont for those of you who still want to say Tracy City) are named the Yellow Jackets. Even the football team. Just because Colquette came to the Mountain doesn't mean Grundy is changing it's nickname. And for the record, Colquette was a Yellow Jacket before he ever was a Warrior. He played for and graduated from Grundy County. Del (who is amazed at the folks who want to take Marion County's nickname away from them.)
  13. I know there are many reasons for the lower numbers in football these days, but I think one thing that would improve football on the high school level is the elimination of pee wee football. In our area we have 8 and under, 9-10 year old and 11-12 year old. I see no benefit in kids playing football before 5th or 6th grade. I believe the two lower age teams should be done away with. Football is also too rough a sport for small kids. I've seen many get serious injuries. It may be true that Eric Westmoreland played pee wee football, but one pro out of thousands in the area doesn't mean we need pee wee football. What do the rest of you think??? Del (who won't let his little one play until he's at least 11-12.)
  14. I haven't made eggrolls in so long that the family is about to revolt. I'll probably be making some this weekend. Del.
  15. What was the score of that butt whipping you gave us last year in round one? Del.
  16. He's slipping a little. I caught the only fish last night. Del.
  17. I think he is so embarrassed because his little boy outfishes him time and again that he has refused to leave the lake until he beats him. He may be there awhile. FEAR NOT Del fans!!!! (all four of you) I am alive and well. I have been fishing and recently caught one big enough to mount. Beat the boy that day! However somehow before we went on vacation last week I took the fish out of the freezer and forgot to put it back in before we left for our five day trip to the Smokies. Anyone know how to get dead fish smell out of a house? I'm not kidding! Help me!!!!!!!!!! As for the boy, he won his first fishing trophy at the Take a Kid Fishing Rodeo at Tims Ford July 13. Hank won the Bream division. First prize was a trophy and a nice bike. Second prize was a smaller trophy and a rod and reel. He traded the bike ($100+) for the rod and reel ($40). He is a fisherman. He caught his first trout in Cherokee last Sunday. As for football who knows. I have recently retired from the sports business to focus more on family and fishing with the boy. Plus he starts school this year and I will be helping with homework for the next 13 years. But my ear is to the ground and I think my Yellow Jackets are in trouble. VERY LOW numbers are out right now. But there is a lot of talent back. Who knows? Del (who has to take the boy fishing sometime later today.)
  18. Roo played at Grundy and at TN Tech. He's coached at Grundy for football and baseball. He played under Ted Ladd and Chris Pickett. He knows baseball inside and out and is good in football as well. He's recently married and starting a family. I consider him a good friend and would be proud for him to coach my boy. If the folks in Whitwell will get behind him he'll build you a winner. Del.
  19. This camp has been cancelled due to lack of registration. There just weren't enough early registrations to ensure the camp could meet expenses. Del.
  20. You playing this weekend? Got any backstage passes? Del (you're former bodyguard at Bernie's)
  21. tea page wouldn't pull up. It's probably because I hate unions. Del.
  22. What kind of suppliments does your school pay? I think Grundy's are on the very low end and would love to have some data to share with officials in our system. How much does your school pay head coaches and assistants? I'm going to post this on most boards. Feel free to list any sport anywhere. Thanks! Del.
