I'd say that's on the money. Of course a big issue in the youth numbers is that the Hornets program has gone under. It would help a lot if both the Hornets and the Bulldogs had full 10-11 year old teams. I'm not big on the younger groups. There's really no benefit in kids playing football younger than 4-5 grade. It just for parents, pictures and lots of bad things. If we had two 10-11 teams with at least 25 each and then a solid middle school team we could improve. The middle school team took a big step last season. I hope that can continue.

This is getting old. You need to understand that EVERYONE who has turned in an application has been or will be interviewed. Has Sam turned in an application? If not then it's on him.

Corruption? I understand the small town politics remark because it's true now and has been true for as long as I can remember. It's also true in every other small county. But corruption? Where is there corruption in this coaching change? I don't get that one at all. Politics...yes....just like there will be politics involved in the new hire....no matter who it is.

TheTruthPrevails isn't a Grundy person...so Grundy wasn't downing the other school.....just saying.

I'd ask to leave Jason and Upperman out of the discussion. Jason didn't apply. Let's stay focused on the candidates and the future. I could care less about the history of Upperman or their current coach. I'm sure a thread can be made for that.

Don't have the other 2 names. Seriously I don't. I've heard a few grapevine rumblings myself. There's no telling what will happen.

Let's go at this way... Posting closes at 3:00 Friday. I know if 8 actual applications. I know of 6 actual interviews. The other 2 will be scheduled for interviews. Time will tell.

Is there somewhere we all can see the overall numbers for Taylor and Barger? I think it would be a little easier for all to pass judgement if we had the numbers and not someone just posting that they have bad percentages.

Jason did not and will not apply. He's very interested in building the softball program and I think very content as an assistant. I assume it depends on who gets hired if he will continue to be an assistant. I hope he does. possum the other "outside" candidate I know of I would guess you would approve of as well. I'd also point out that the 2 internal candidates have solid reasons to consider them. Tommy has 12 or 13 years of experience and worked with 7 different head coach tenures. (Pickett and Brewer had 2 each of those.) Casey also has high school experience and took a middle school program that doesn't even have a middle school...and was also in shambles and turned them into an undefeated team. (with the help of really good assistants.)

I know of 4 names that have been interviewed. The 3 you named and Tim Taylor. The last word I had was the actual applications turned in were less than 10. So not as much interest as first thought. I'll ask for a total number at COB Thursday. I'll also ask for a projected timetable for a decision. Again...we'll see. I'm not involved in the process and haven't had much time to check on it. The newspaper isn't my day job.

Question.. Wouldn't it be better to start a new thread on this since the new coach has been hired?

If Nick would have won 10 games this year anyone who tried to fire him would have been fired instead. Winning 10 games has only been done twice in the history of the school. With 10 wins he'd have something named after him.

I love how everything gets twisted. Christian and Character and your sorry butt was in the news within the last year for committing crimes ARE ALL DIFFERENT THINGS. The fact that Mac even called is laughable. He will not get interviewed. And Valley Expert since that's who you want you can move on to another thread now. If you Google a couple of more names that have been mentioned (one in here and another that someone called about) they also have very recent negative news articles on them. Like within a year! Anyone can overcome mistakes. It takes time and going about it the right way. I know a couple of guys that are going through that right now and they seem to be handling it 100% the right way. I believe that will bode well for their futures because they are great coaches. They are winners. People want a winner. However they don't want one that when the story runs that they hired the guy the footage also runs of when they were fired last year. Funny how I forgot that some of the people who post here are complete idiots. If I let it get to me I could end up in another thread almost as great as "Stupid Announcer Tricks." Which is of course the greatest thread in CoachT history.

How far in the past are those mistakes? Everyone makes mistakes and it takes everyone TIME to get over them. It also takes others TIME to give people a second chance. Thinks that have happened in the last year or 2 may not have had enough TIME to get over. You can't just hire anyone anymore and if you think you can you're blind. The world is a lot smaller than it used to be. To think that someone can screw up big time and it's just looked over 5 minutes later is silly. Why don't you quit playing games and say who you want hired...and why? Why do you care about Grundy football? If you're from the valley what difference does it make to you? This would be like me dominating a thread about who to hire in Jasper when the world knows I don't care about football in Jasper. They could go 0-100000 and I wouldn't care.

I haven't seen the resumes. I only know of the 3 interviews so far but I haven't asked in a while. I can say this. Our director of schools is a firm believer in doing things by the book. Therefore since the posting isn't up until Thursday at 3:00 pm then he can't or won't name anyone. If someone wants to apply between now and then I'm sure their application will be considered. However like anywhere else that hires people...some don't make it past the application. People check people out these days. If you've been in the news and the news is not good you may not get an interview. I'm currently a supervisor. I've hired people. I've culled many just by reading their application or checking them out. They never got an interview. Such is life. I can tell you that I've Googled at least 3 of the names that have come up and found articles that would cause me not to give them an interview if I were in charge. The posting is up this week. I'm sure we'll have a coach named before too much longer.

Nick interviewed at Sequatchie yesterday. I heard it was coming a few days back. Haven't heard anything about anyone going with him. Keep in mind boys and girls a lot of what I hear is second and third hand. So no point in talking about anything until there's something solid to go with it. The fact that Nick was seen in Dunlap yesterday made it more real. I got the info that he was there yesterday while I was in Columbia. I'm in Knoxville today so no telling what I'll hear. Maybe Johnny Majors is back on the market.....
