  1. Plans are in the works for Murphy Fair to do a 15-minutes weekly radio show that will be syndicated throughout the state. The show will also be available on his web site.
  2. That booboo caught my eye too. Hey nobody is perfect.
  3. Murphy came through Tullahoma yesterday and delivered 50 magazines to the field house. Joe should have them at Sports Plus soon. You might want to call Joe or Coach Olive to get your copy today. Because of the time it takes for something to travel through the mail obviously those that ordered a copy through the mail won't get them before any retail outlets in the midstate. However, mail orders should arrive before retail outlets get them in East and West Tennessee. Part of the advantage of pre-ordering through the mail is the convenience of having it delivered. Murphy always retains a few hundred copies for mail order customers, so if you aren't able to find one in a retail outlet then mail order is the way to go.
  4. Murphy Fair's 2009 Tennessee High School Football magazine has arrived and is being distributed to retail outlets. Middle Tennessee is first before Murphy makes his trips to East and West Tennessee. A list of retail outlets can be found on Murphy's web site. If you can't get to a retail outlet and want to order a copy by mail you can also do that from the website. Enjoy the magazine, and enjoy this great new site that CoachT has put together. LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

  8. I got no dog in this hunt other than trying to keep this thread on the poll instead of an east squabble. I do have to say though that five straight titles is what it is and any attempt to downplay the significance of that achievement just sounds weak and hollow.
  9. Any poll anywhere any time can't be trusted to be 100% accurate. That is not the purpose of polls, especially preseason polls. In the end the only thing that will be decided is who the top team is and that will be decided on the field. Once again keep in mind that these are the collective opinions of the state's Class 6A coaches. They may not know any more or less about ALL the teams than you or me, but anytime you get dozens of folks and combine their opinions you at least get a starting point.
  10. The final preseason coaches poll has been released from Murphy Fair's Tennessee High School Football magazine. Class 6A coaches say Oakland will repeat. What say you? 1 Oakland 2 Maryville 3 (tie) Brentwood 3 (tie) Franklin 5 Smyrna 6 Ooltewah 7 Dobyns Bennett 8 Farragut 9 Oak Ridge 10 White Station
  11. Hopefully we can get this discussion back on track - the Coaches' preseason Top Ten Poll in Class 5A. More than any other classification, this one may be the most unique. The old dominance of Middle Tennessee from the old Class 5A and Maryville from the old Class 4A are both gone. That leaves things wide open. With coaching changes at Hillsboro and Catholic, the two returning title winners in this class, that seems to open things up even more. This is going to be a really fun classification to watch develop over the next few years. I wouldn't be surprised if teams from all three areas of the state won titles in this class in the coming seasons.
  12. The coaches in Class 2A have weighed in and picked their preseason Top Ten teams. Murphy Fair's Tennessee High School Football magazine has gone to the printer and should be released in mid-July. 1 Trousdale Co. 2 Boyd-Buchanan 3 Marion Co. 4 Friendship Christian 5 McKenzie 6 Humboldt 7 Mt. Pleasant 8 Oneida 9 Cascade 10 Signal Mountain
  13. Below is the Top Five teams according to coaches in Division II-A. Murphy Fair's Tennessee HIgh School Football Magazine has gone to the printer and will be released in mid-July. 1 ECS 2 Davidson Academy 3 Knoxville Webb 4 USJ 5 Jackson Christian
  14. The preseason Top Ten in Class 1A according to the coaches who voted in Murphy Fair's Tennessee High School Football magazine. The magazine has gone to the printers and should be released in mid-July. 1 South Pittsburg 2 Jo Byrns 3 Huntingdon 4 Union City 5 Wayne Co. 6 Gordonsville 7 Greenback 8 Collinwood 9 Midway 10 Eagleville
  15. MyTV30 out of Nashville will be doing a full slate of Thursday night TV games this season. The schedule has not yet been released.
  16. Don't re-invent the wheel. That best team site list is right here: http://www.murphyfair.com/schools.html
  17. Is pedo the only person in Manchester who has Internet access this week? Whatever happened to some good trash talk before the big game??? If its a dry field I think Tullahoma wins this game in impressive fashion. The Wildcats have not yet scratched the surface in how effective their offense can be. Matt Hagen has a very strong arm and is very accurate once he gets in the groove. His wide receiver corps of Jared Olive, Derek Lawson, and Jordan Milleville is talented, fast, and sure-handed. THS has an offensive line that is only going to get better every week. With only two seniors it was bound to take a few games for things to begin to gel and now that we are entering our fourth game don't be surprised if that offensive line takes control. When they do, as they did in the first half last week at Whites Creek, running back Zach Bryson is more than capable of hurting a defense. He is extremely fast and hits the hole quick. Despite his size he seldom goes down on first contact. This Tullahoma defense is as good as we've seen in a few years. Steve Britten has done a wonderful job with the defensive line. He has nine or 10 kids that play each week and there is seldom any letdown with any combination of them on the field. The linebackers are outstanding and the secondary is very fast and already has four interceptions on the season. Nobody has been able to run wide against this team, not even Lincoln Co. Hopefully the 'Cats can keep the ball moving and not have to punt the football a lot, as the punting average is only 30 yards. Placekicking is very solid though and in decent conditions the chances are good on a kick from inside 40 yards. So what about Coffee Co.????
  18. What is up with the Manchester folks. You guys usually flood this board with all your "if we hadn't done this or if we hadn't done that we would have won" talk. I haven't seen you guys so quiet before a Coffee Pot game in a long time. Has Coach Nunley put a muzzle on the Red Raiders fans? Just so you Manchester folks will know coming in, the smell of them port-a-potties is mighty sweet compared to the smell of them old bathrooms on the home side that were thankfully destroyed. As of today Tullahoma is on track to open a beautiful new football stadium to begin the 2009 season. I hope they will consider changing the name since nobody even knows who Wilkins was and after 50 years its time to update the name anyway. I think John Olive Stadium has a really nice ring to it. How about John Olive Field at Bank of Tullahoma Stadium???
  19. Maybe the mayor of the losing team could resign. Maybe the mayor of the winning team could resign. Maybe both could resign just to add to the festivities. Neither mayor probably even knows there is a game this week or knows what the Coffee Pot actually is. I know, maybe the county mayor could referee a grudge wresting match between the two city mayors. There is no limit to what a little wesson oil and a twister board can produce.
  20. A couple of key points have to be made here. One is that all cameras, and I mean ALL cameras, withered under the heavy downpour around halftime last week at Whites Creek. There was no video for the second half of the coaches' TV show. There was no video period. Another point is this, since when would either of these teams need something said by a fan on a message board up on the locker room wall to get motivated for this game. Only comments by players, coaches, or the media would ever deserve to be on a locker room wall, and surely neither team needs that to be 'up' this week. The CCCHS fan says the Red Raiders weren't up for Cookeville last week, and frankly I didn't see a lot of fire from the Wildcats in the sloppy mess that was Whites Creek (hopefullly we never have to go there again!). We should all beg the TSSAA to put Coffee Co. in the same region as Tullahoma, Franklin Co., Shelbyville, etc. next year instead of with Cookeville, Warren Co., etc. To have this game, which means so much to both towns, as a conference game once again would be great. Then neither team gets caught looking ahead or behind or whatever it is that would cause a whole team, which only gets 10 regular season games, to not be 'UP' for one. I've never understood how that happens anyway. I just spoke with Jerry Joslin at Cookeville and I'm sorry to tell you Binns but he won't let us use his offensive line. Oh but I did learn something else, Coffee Co. fans can actually NOT count the turnovers and penalties from last week, so the beating wasn't really as bad as it seemed. 6,000 people will pile into Wilkins Stadium this Friday as this rivalry begins closing in on the 100-year mark. I believe the key will be how well Tullahoma's defensive line tackles Justin Kanjanabout, because once he hits the secondary he is tough to bring down. If Hagen gets going then Tullahoma will have too much speed for Coffee Co., but if the 'Cats can't get the passing game going then they will just keep trying to throw it anyway no matter how much they can't do it. Oh wait, nevermind that was last week.
  21. My bad yes 'Big Mo' did go to Ole Miss. The Rebels got another Tullahoma kid in the mid-90s when Mr. Football Jamil Northcutt went to Oxford. He had an outstanding career, being awarded the Chucky Mullins jersey (38). Jamil is now the Assistant Athletic Director at Ole Miss.
  22. Yes Steve Matthews was very good. Good enough to play in the NFL for a number of seasons. He is now the head coach at Moore Co. Those mid-to-late 80s Tullahoma teams had a number of D1 players, including the Shaw brothers. Wayne, the oldest, went on to have a very successful career at Alabama. Maurice, who is now an assistant coach at Tullahoma, played at Mississippi State. Antonio London had an outstanding career first at Alabama and then for the Detroit Lions. Tullahoma was very blessed in its football talent during that time. Although there has been some excellent talent since then, D1 signees have been few and far between.
  23. Whites Creek has not shown an ability to run the football. The Cobras played a good Hunters Lane team close last week but the word is Hunters Lane did just enough to win. WC quarterback J Booker and receiver Cliff Jetton are legitimate weapons and the Cobras have one of Region 5-4A's best linemen in Tory Booker. Tullahoma was very impressive against Franklin Co. The Wildcats had no turnovers and no 15-yard penalties. The offensive line was dominant in the final three quarters, and the defense contained Shaquille Shedd and Terrance Martin well. Whites Creek is always a tough trip for Tullahoma, although the Wildcats sometimes have more fans in the stands than do the Cobras. After facing Lincoln Co.'s defense the Wildcats know what a good defense looks like. Although Tullahoma kept the A11 in its pocked against Franklin Co. you can expect them to pull it out if they feel a need this week. The advantages Tullahoma tends to have against some metro teams is depth and physical conditioning. The Wildcats are in excellent shape and they go two-deep in the rotation at some positions better than any team in the region. Look for those advantages to begin making a difference in the second half. Tullahoma wins this one 31-13.
  24. I have two questions for the student who filmed the game and just posted: 1. Why are you posting on a high school sports message board during school hours? Shouldn't you be in class? 2. Does Franklin Co. High School have a spelling class? My goodness.
  25. Now this is when it gets good. This is what high school football in the south is all about. Two towns, 15 miles apart, one of the oldest rivalries in the state.....this is like heaven right here! The port-a-johns are a whole lot nicer than any bathroom you have used at Wilkins Stadium in the last 10 years or so. The Rebel backers have plenty of stadium jokes they can use and rightly so considering they have a brand-new house for their wild-eyed southern boys. Take a note though Franklin Co. fan. You better be careful cause we got those visitor stands just right so that when you fill em up they gonna come crashing down so fast you ain't gonna have time to blink. Best bet is for you folks to just stay home and listen to your whoopin on the radio. Don't worry about gettin there early if you do come 'cause we ain't gonna open the gates till about 6:45. You see, all the T-town folks come in the back way....hehehe Oh yeah, and then there's the game. Last year it came down to the final 77 seconds when Bishop connected with Lawson for 69-yard touchdown. It won't be that close this year. Both teams are better, but when Rebel backers say their secondary is weak that spells trouble because Tullahoma has got a host of fleet receivers and a basket full of pass patterns and a rocket-armed lefty that is now fully confident and ready. And then there is that defense. I hope the Rebels throw it a lot towards #17!! This is all in good fun and we look forward to you FC folks coming over and having a good time. We'll come as friends, do battle on the field of play, and leave as friends. As it should be.
