The incident can't and shouldn't be defended by anyone. My friends that played and coach football agree that this inappropriate under any circumstance. As far as Stantrott, this is guy that suggested CoachT ban all threads pertaining to Warren County football a few days ago, so I wouldn't worry too much about getting a "bad mark" from him. What is this, Nursery School?? Good Marks and Bad Marks are for children. Grow UP.

Now that Tidwell is gone, can WC finally win a game? I can't believe that our kids are that much worse than the surrounding teams. Is it something in the water? For Me; I am proud to say that I am from Warren County and I am not a Loser!

This matter does not necessarily have to go to trial. The preliminary hearing will most likely result in some sort of plea-bargain involving community service. I would be utterly shocked if this did go to a jury trial. Tidwell's attorney will most likely work out a plea arrangement with D.A. prior to this hearing, the judge will hear the plea, and both sides will go home. It's a simple assault case. Most of those are resolved at the sessions court level. Rarely is an indictment handed down in that type of case.

The motivation here for the parent must certainly be financial. What other justification could their be for them to press the issue to the point of prosecution? I would imagine the Bedford Co. DA has more important matters on his plate than Gerald Tidwell. My guess is he was pressured by the parents to pursue this issue. Most likely Coach Tidwell will never coach another game at Warren County or anywhere else. What's worse, he may never be able to teach again because of this. So the man made an incredibly stupid mistake, that much is above question. But should it cost him his livelihood? I don't think his crime merits that severe of a punishment. It's just another pathetic story out of Warren County in a very long line of pathetic stories where nobody wins. Glad I don't have to live there anymore.

When was the coach arrested? I don't see anything in the paper about this.

I see that WC loses 50-12 at the hands of Beech. I feel for the WC faithful. It's not easy to see your team get humiliated every week. It's obvious that WC is the worst team in 5-A ball this year. One has to wonder if WC would not be better off building a second high school. The problem is that would still leave WC in 4-A ball, and it's not like we could beat Maryville or Hillsboro. I don't know the answer, I just know that WC football has become an embarrasment to all of us alums, and I would like to see it improve. I wish these kids would show some heart and refuse to be beat like dogs every week. I can't imagine allowing a team to score 50 points on me every game? Let's see some improvement in the WC team

Sound like LC has a tremendous defense. I'm a big Riverdale fan, but hat's off to Lincoln County for tonight's win. I get the impression they have a lot more than people give them credit for.

Tidwell has somehow mananged to take a step backward from last year. I didn't think that was possible. For all the cheerleaders of WC football, let me remind you that most of you are johnny-come-lately's to this program. You have no idea what has really transpired over the last ten years. Warren County football was alive and well in 89/91. After that, it began it's agonizing spiral into the cellar of division 5-A. If you cheerleaders care so much about the program, talk to the people who have the power to authorize the money it will take to bring in a competent staff. Otherwise, shut your mouth. Tidwell will not resurrect WC football. It's an issue so deep that one man could hardly be expected to solve the problem. I'm sure he is a nice fellow, but he's in over his head. Let's get rid of this man, get a commitment from the board to do it right this time, and bring in a proven "staff", not just some other dude. [Edited by KarlChilders on 9-12-02 11:19P]

What is your timeframe for marked improvement coach? The way I see it Warren County is going backwards with a 54-0 loss at the hands of an 0-2 team. Three games in to the season that was promised to be a turnaround and the team collapses at home? Maybe ten years of pathetic teams have lulled everybody into complacency, but I thought we would at least see a team with some heart, even if they were short on talent. No team with heart gets beat 54-0. How can you explain getting shutout. Obviously Lincoln County didn't leave their starters in the whole game. Can't WC even put a late game drive together to prevent the shutout? I'm still waiting for anyone (You, SportsEd, Kellraiser, etc.) to attempt to justify this disastrous score.

Glad to see you come to your senses on this one Stan. If you don't like a topic, don't open the thread. I don't know what your connection to WC football is and frankly I don't care. If you are opposed to people having differing opinions, maybe the internet is not the place for you. I haven't posted one single thing about this topic that has been refuted. Sometimes the truth really hurts. If you can't stand to read it, don't read the thread. It's no different than any other form of media. I think Survivor is the worst show on TV, so I don't watch it. You don't have to read anything about WC football if you so desire. Censorship is for Nazi's and Communists.

No one can justify getting thrashed 54-0. The players can't defend it, the coaches can't defend it, and the fans shouldn't be subjected to witnessing such a woodshed beating. This problem starts at the top and trickles down. The administration of WC schools shares as much blame for this as anyone. Ask Ron Martin, or Andy Jacobs or George Bolding why WC is in this situation. They will likely point the finger anywhere but at themselves. The truth is they are directly responsible for the hirings and firings, and they chose the cheap and easy route. Why would a coach move down here to this perennial cellar-dweller? Could it be he was running away from something? About ten years ago WC had a chance to elevate their program to the elite in AAAAA ball, and the admin elected to stay with the status quo. Until the admin and the fans are committed to bringing in a complete coaching staff with a winning track record you can expect more humiliating losses. Lincoln County is not a very good football team and they hung 54 on WC. Just be thankful WC does not play Riverdale or Oakland in football. Beech will win by at least five touchdowns

I'm assuming you're exaggerating the turnover number (45). Were they able to move the ball very well on the ground?

I missed the game, but it doesn't sound like WC has made a lot of strides from last year's team. Were their any positive notes from the game?

It sounds like both of these teams have major questions so I will be conservative in my prediction. I see a tight game for the first half, with neither inept offense able to do much. The final will be Centennial 35-14 over Warren County. It should be a good game.

You can't go from cellar-dwellar to contender very quickly. I would be shocked if WC won more than two games this year. It is very difficult to turn losers into winners. The WC players are accustomed to being losers and it will take a lot of patience to turn them into winners. I wish the new coach all the best, but I seriously doubt WC will have many wins this season. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't win a game. They have been losers so long they don't even know what it's like to win. The bottom line is WC hd a chance to hire a coach with a proven track record of winning in this area, and they opted for some unknown commodity from out of state.
