  1. I don't see where you can talk about 8AA's dominance over 7AA considering the teams that did the dominating ( MLK, D. Lipscomb, Hume Fogg, and Portland) are eithe in another district or way down from years past. The current teams in 8AA are much more similar in talent to 7AA than in years past. That being said, 8AA may dominate again but I don't think this district is anywhere close to the level it has been the last 4 years or so.
  2. TSSAA sends a form with spaces for three candidates in each classification to every varsity coach in the state. The coaches nominate three players in every class. The three with the most nominations in each class makes the finalists' list that is voted on by the media.
  3. Another thing that needs to be mentioned is that from watching that game Saturday, Corey seemed to be the only Gator that consistently looked to feed the the ball into the post. A lot Gator fans are complaining that Walsh and Roberson never look to get the ball in the post. The point I am trying to make is that some people got on here last year and said that Corey was selfish and a ball-hog, when that simply wasn't the case. Corey is just so competitive and wants to win so bad and he had no help last year and knew if Portland was going to win it all rested on his shoulders. I think now he is just relieved that he can focus in on one area like playing defense and feeding the ball in the post, and not have the pressure of having to do everything by himself. I don't think very many people understand how little talent Portland had last year and the pressure that was on Corey every game. Not to many kids could average 30 pts a game being double and tripled teamed and going against all the gimmick defenses that he had to face last year. Corey led Portland in every statistical category last year. You take him off of that team and Portland and Macon County would have been competing for the cellar last year. So, Corey is probably thrilled to have so much talent surrounding him so he doesn't have to score 30 a night, grab 15 boards, get 5 steals, dish out 5 assists, play 30 minutes a night, and guard the best player on the opposing team night in and night out. And everyone that says he didn't play defense in high school, think how well you would do defensively with all of that on your plate.
  4. The one fact most of you failed to realize was that Florida switched all screens in the second half and the times Garcia beat anyone off the dribble it was Moss or Walsh guarding him on the switch. Only about 9 or 10 of Garcia's points came when Corey was guarding him.
  5. Corey started in Florida's season opener against Jacksonville. He had 9pts 5reb and 5 steals. Pretty good for a guy who was supposedly overated. I can remember some posts on these boards last year, when someone said that Corey would start or play major minutes, where others were saying no way he would start and that he would ride the pine for 4 years. Now what do you naysayers have to say?
  6. The scoreboard has the score as 77-0 Harpeth. I know that can't be the correct score. Does anyone know the real score or Portland's score against Dekalb tonight?
  7. When I posted earlier i totally forgot about Staion Camp. 1. MLK - No contest for top spot 2. Lipscomb- Never rebuild just reload 3. Hume-Fogg-always seem to relace guards with even quicker ones 4. Greenbrier- best team they've had in years, play very hard just not quick enough or athletic enough to compet for 1 or 2. Maybe 3. 5. Station Camp- very well coached play very hard, return everyone except PG from last year. Also could finish as high as third. 6. Springfield- probably most athletic team in district very good young talent 7. East Lit.- also very athletic and young 8. Portland- lost everything from last year including coach. 9. Macon -not much returning talent also new coach and JV was beaten by Portland's jv by over 20 three times last year.
  8. 1. MLK 2. Lipscomb 3. Hume Fogg 4. Greenbrier 5. Springfield 6. East Lit 7. Portland 8. Macon
  9. No one in the state can possibly be better than MLK's Johnny Lee. There may be some as good good but no way they are better. Johnny is the most complete high school point guard I've seen in a long time. He does whatever his team needs him to do to win. Whether that be score 25-30 pts dish out 10-12 assists defend the best player for the opposing team. The kid has no weaknesses in his game. He is lightning quick, he handles the ball like its on a string, he has no weak hand he can go right or left equally as well, and at 5'7' he's got hops. Like i said no way anyone in the state is better maybe as good but not better. Everyone is in for a treat getting to watch him in the state tournament next week. That is if Doc lets him play and doesn't hold the ball, which Johnny can do by himself, he is a one man stall game. You can't get close enogh to get a 5 count or he'll blow by you then back it right back out and dare you to come within 6 ft of him.
  10. People who get on here and say that Brewer gets babied by the refs are out of their minds. They must not have seen Portland very many times this year, probably about 75% of the time this year Brewer was on the losing end if he was involved in a play that could go either. He fouled out of about 7 or 8 games this year, 4 in OT, every time on very questionable calls. I've seen a lot of big time players in my day and I've never seen a player of his caliber have as many questionable calls go against him. Now thats not to say that there hasn't been games where most of the calls went his way but, more often than not the refs this year have been gunning for him and some have made comments as to such. Secondly, how can any Lipscomb supporter say anything about preferential treatment by officials? They've got every official in this area in their back pocket, they always get all the calls. And every offical that they don't own belongs to Doc Shelton and MLK. And anyone that says otherwise is either blind to the obvious or just plain dumb.
  11. Corey Brewer, Portland, averaging 30.2 ppg.
  12. Sleep did you forget that hume fogg has a 6'10" center that will give SC inside games a lot of problems. And to say that HF isn"t any quicker than upperman may be the most ridiculous statement I've ever heard. HF's 3 guards are as quick as anyone in the state. I've seen both play and Upperman's quickness doesn't even compare to Hume Fogg's.
  13. Johnny Lee is definitely one of the top point guards in the the state. He can do it all, score from anywhere on the floor, make his teammates better and makes great decisions. I guarantee you you can't find a better defensive guard in the state. Listen to this, his coach didn't even nominate him for the all district team. How does that happen?
  14. No Brewer doesn"t 275 he maxed at 335 in the fall I know this for a fact. You all can call me a liar and say what you want but I'm telling you what I know to be fact, because I saw it with my own two eyes.
