I've found out that their is a Currey Ingram school. It doesn't have any athletics to my knowledge. It is a third-year school that cost about $16,000 per year.

CoachT, I would like to suggest some changes on the fan polls, either to you or to the fans. For the fans: 1. Please don't vote for a boy's only team in a girls poll or vice versa. 2. I would suggest voting for the best team, not your favorite team. But that is my opinion. For CoachT: 1. Is there anyway to remove the boy's only school from the girl's poll selections and vice versa. 2. Is Currey Ingram an active school, because I can't find them on the TSSAA website and they have no schedules, but they are in 3rd place in the D2 Boy's Basketball poll. Thanks

In my opinion, St. George is the nicest school in West TN. I have been to their campus once and I was amazed in how nice it was. The school is only about 1 mile from Briarcrest. I believe it cost about 15K a year. Last year, they hosted the first round of the D2 West Girls Basketball Region Tournament. They are no joke in athletics to both public and private schools. Here is an article from the Commercial Appeal a couple of weeks ago. St. George's School seeks tax-exempt bonds for construction By Tom Bailey Jr. September 16, 2004 This new school is growing fast, by George. Enrollment rose 50 percent at St. George's Independent School in Collierville from 253 students last year to 381 this year. School representatives are scheduled to appear before the Collierville Industrial Development Board tonight seeking tax-exempt municipal bonds. The private school wants to borrow $10 million at relatively low interest rates to pay for its Phase II expansion. The work is already in progress, thanks to some temporary financing, school spokesman Sarah Cowan said. The school is in northwest Collierville, facing the Wolf River bottom woods off Houston Levee. The $22 million facility opened in 2002 with grades 6 through 9, adding a 10th grade in 2003 and an 11th grade this year. Twelfth-graders come aboard next fall. Since opening, the school has completed a $3.5 million expansion of the athletic field house, including a second gymnasium, expanded fitness area, wrestling room and added parking. The current 42,500-square-foot, $10 million expansion is for a second academic wing, more dining space and renovation of the pool. The original wing forms half of a horseshoe shape, and the second wing will complete the horseshoe, said Bill Taylor, head of schools. A common area that includes the dining hall and library is in the middle. The new academic wing will include classrooms, labs, and faculty and administrative space. Conditions are relatively crowded now, but that's not all bad, Taylor said. "We see this as a tremendous opportunity, actually," he added. Most, if not all, teachers have to share classrooms. "We talk about the advantage of sharing space," Taylor said. "It places a great deal of importance on collegiality. . . . Working through the inherent challenge of sharing space." Next year, the middle school and upper school each will have wings to themselves. That's important because middle and upper school students are at different stages of development, Taylor said. Under the master plan, the school eventually will build an auditorium, performing arts center, more classrooms, and a stadium with other athletic facilities, Cowan said.

I based St. George's enrollment on the their current enrollment of 381 9-11 graders and anding 127 for 12th grade. I put them in D2-AAA because there athletic director is telling people that they plan on being in D2-AAA and D2-Large next year. As for Ensworth, I know nothing about it. All that I know is that they have about 75 9th graders. Some schools (like Lighthouse) do join varsity sports when they have 9th and 10th graders. But you probably know more than I do.

This is the word out of the TSSAA today. Due to the membership changes in the Middle & East region of D2 for 2005-09, D2 west will have four bids to the state tournament, middle will have two bids, and east will have one bid. The eigth spot will be determined in a game between the 3rd place team from the middle and the 2nd place team from the east. This will begin in the 2005-06 school year.

I believe you are correct on the officials excuse. Referees follow the NFHS rulebook, not the TSSAA charter. This is a reason why officials cannot forfeit varsity games because a player played in more than six quarters in one day. [TSSAA Bylaws Article II Section 9 ~ The membership of a B team shall be composed of all varsity substitutes and any other players that are certified to TSSAA. ........A player shall not participate in more than six quarters of play in one day during regular-season contest. A player who enters a game for any length of time during a quarter shall be charged with a quarter's participation.] That is an example of why officials have no jurisdiction in TSSAA rules. This is why the officials did not say anything. Another thing is, I am almost positive, that schools can hire anyone (certified official or not), referee any non-varsity or freshman event. (B game, JV game, scrimmage)

I personally like Tippett's move to ECS. I am D2 junkie and i think he will improve D2 West a lot. No offense to Wes Cozine at St. Benedict, but i think D2 West has 5 world-class coaches now: Pete Froedden, John Harrington, Jerry Peters, Terry Tippett, and Kelly. All of these people know basketball well and are very kind. I look for D2 to have a sudden increase in Basketball "ballers". I do feel for players like JP at White Station and good luck to them. I have my three reason for his change, most of them have already been stated. 1. The Jerry West Exception- Once you have reached a certain level of talent standards year after year, you make a move to see if you can do it again at a no so good program. 2. The talent issue - Once you reconize that your talent might run out in a short as one year you, you probably want to get out on top. 3. The money issue - If you can retire from city schools and go to a private school and take your city pension, ECS fitness teacher salary, ECS Basketball coach salary, and ECS Golf coach salary, you could be possibly doubling your income, witch is important to someone prepareing for retirement. I personally see Tippett staying about 8 to 10 years at ECS and then retiring. I can also see Jerry Peters step down at MUS after this year or the next. In my opinion, one of his sons will get the job (Probably Jason because of his winning at Lausanne, plus Lausanne is running out of talent quickly. I just don't think Jeremy is ready to be a Varsity coach). Personnally I was not stunned about the move because I had been hearing rumors for about month that the job was offered to him.

TSSAA Rules for Sectional Games: Tickets and Passes All tickets are general admission and are priced at $6.00. TSSAA will furnish the tickets. Return all unsold tickets to TSSAA. The visiting team shall have the opportunity to receive 50% of the tickets. Money or unsold tickets must be returned to the host school no later than 5:00 p.m. the day of the game. TSSAA Identification Cards, Officials Registration Cards, College Coaching and Scouting Cards, and TACA Cards will not be accepted as passes. (Each member school has been mailed two tickets.) SID Cards will be accepted Each participating team has 25 tickets which are to be used for admitting players, managers, coaches and other school officials. Teacher and Student passes are not allowed in postseason play because 33% goes to the TSSAA, 33% to each team particitpating in a sectional game, after expenses. The TSSAA keeps 18% for district and regional tournaments with the host school paying expenses and keeping leftovers.
