I've found out that their is a Currey Ingram school. It doesn't have any athletics to my knowledge. It is a third-year school that cost about $16,000 per year.

CoachT, I would like to suggest some changes on the fan polls, either to you or to the fans. For the fans: 1. Please don't vote for a boy's only team in a girls poll or vice versa. 2. I would suggest voting for the best team, not your favorite team. But that is my opinion. For CoachT: 1. Is there anyway to remove the boy's only school from the girl's poll selections and vice versa. 2. In my opinion, St. George is the nicest school in West TN. I have been to their campus once and I was amazed in how nice it was. The school is only about 1 mile from Briarcrest. I believe it cost about 15K a year. Last year, they hosted the first round of the D2 West Girls Basketball Region Tournament. They are no joke in athletics to both public and private schools. Here is an article from the Commercial Appeal a couple of weeks ago. St. George's School seeks tax-exempt bonds for construction By Tom Bailey Jr. September 16, 2004 This new school is growing fast, by George. Enrollment rose 50 percent at St. George's Independent School in Collierville from 253 students last year to 381 this year. School representatives are scheduled to appear before the Collierville Industrial Development Board tonight seeking tax-exempt municipal bonds. The private school wants to borrow $10 million at relatively low interest rates to pay for its Phase II expansion. The work is already in progress, thanks to some temporary financing, school spokesman Sarah Cowan said. The school is in northwest Collierville, facing the Wolf River bottom woods off Houston Levee. The $22 million facility opened in 2002 with grades 6 through 9, adding a 10th grade in 2003 and an 11th grade this year. Twelfth-graders come aboard next fall. Since opening, the school has completed a $3.5 million expansion of the athletic field house, including a second gymnasium, expanded fitness area, wrestling room and added parking. The current 42,500-square-foot, $10 million expansion is for a second academic wing, more dining space and renovation of the pool. The original wing forms half of a horseshoe shape, and the second wing will complete the horseshoe, said Bill Taylor, head of schools. A common area that includes the dining hall and library is in the middle. The new academic wing will include classrooms, labs, and faculty and administrative space. Conditions are relatively crowded now, but that's not all bad, Taylor said. "We see this as a tremendous opportunity, actually," he added. Most, if not all, teachers have to share classrooms. "We talk about the advantage of sharing space," Taylor said. "It places a great deal of importance on collegiality. . . . Working through the inherent challenge of sharing space." Next year, the middle school and upper school each will have wings to themselves. That's important because middle and upper school students are at different stages of development, Taylor said. Under the master plan, the school eventually will build an auditorium, performing arts center, more classrooms, and a stadium with other athletic facilities, Cowan said.

I based St. George's enrollment on the their current enrollment of 381 9-11 graders and anding 127 for 12th grade. I put them in D2-AAA because there athletic director is telling people that they plan on being in D2-AAA and D2-Large next year. As for Ensworth, I know nothing about it. All that I know is that they have about 75 9th graders. Some schools (like Lighthouse) do join varsity sports when they have 9th and 10th graders. But you probably know more than I do.

This is the word out of the TSSAA today. Due to the membership changes in the Middle & East region of D2 for 2005-09, D2 west will have four bids to the state tournament, middle will have two bids, and east will have one bid. The eigth spot will be determined in a game between the 3rd place team from the middle and the 2nd place team from the east. This will begin in the 2005-06 school year.

I believe you are correct on the officials excuse. Referees follow the NFHS rulebook, not the TSSAA charter. This is a reason why officials cannot forfeit varsity games because a player played in more than six quarters in one day. [TSSAA Bylaws Article II Section 9 ~ The membership of a B team shall be composed of all varsity substitutes and any other players that are certified to TSSAA. ........A player shall not participate in more than six quarters of play in one day during regular-season contest. A player who enters a game for any length of time during a quarter shall be charged with a quarter's participation.] That is an example of why officials have no jurisdiction in TSSAA rules. This is why the officials did not say anything. Another thing is, I am almost positive, that schools can hire anyone (certified official or not), referee any non-varsity or freshman event. (B game, JV game, scrimmage)

I personally like Tippett's move to ECS. I am D2 junkie and i think he will improve D2 West a lot. No offense to Wes Cozine at St. Benedict, but i think D2 West has 5 world-class coaches now: Pete Froedden, John Harrington, Jerry Peters, Terry Tippett, and Kelly. All of these people know basketball well and are very kind. I look for D2 to have a sudden increase in Basketball "ballers". I do feel for players like JP at White Station and good luck to them. I have my three reason for his change, most of them have already been stated. 1. The Jerry West Exception- Once you have reached a certain level of talent standards year after year, you make a move to see if you can do it again at a no so good program. 2. The talent issue - Once you reconize that your talent might run out in a short as one year you, you probably want to get out on top. 3. The money issue - If you can retire from city schools and go to a private school and take your city pension, ECS fitness teacher salary, ECS Basketball coach salary, and ECS Golf coach salary, you could be possibly doubling your income, witch is important to someone prepareing for retirement. I personally see Tippett staying about 8 to 10 years at ECS and then retiring. I can also see Jerry Peters step down at MUS after this year or the next. In my opinion, one of his sons will get the job (Probably Jason because of his winning at Lausanne, plus Lausanne is running out of talent quickly. I just don't think Jeremy is ready to be a Varsity coach). Personnally I was not stunned about the move because I had been hearing rumors for about month that the job was offered to him.

TSSAA Rules for Sectional Games: Tickets and Passes All tickets are general admission and are priced at $6.00. TSSAA will furnish the tickets. Return all unsold tickets to TSSAA. The visiting team shall have the opportunity to receive 50% of the tickets. Money or unsold tickets must be returned to the host school no later than 5:00 p.m. the day of the game. TSSAA Identification Cards, Officials Registration Cards, College Coaching and Scouting Cards, and TACA Cards will not be accepted as passes. (Each member school has been mailed two tickets.) SID Cards will be accepted Each participating team has 25 tickets which are to be used for admitting players, managers, coaches and other school officials. Teacher and Student passes are not allowed in postseason play because 33% goes to the TSSAA, 33% to each team particitpating in a sectional game, after expenses. The TSSAA keeps 18% for district and regional tournaments with the host school paying expenses and keeping leftovers.

I think 3-4 asst. coaches being lost is a little high, more like 1. But if you count Jr. High coaches, then it is probably 3-4. I know one coach left because he thought Harding should give the black players bonus points when they are about to become ineligable. But harding doesn't believe in reverse descrimination or descrimination and we think that people should earn their grades. Greg Hardy left for Rossville on Jan. 7 and Tacuma Alexander left on Jan 5. Hardy scored 11 points the other day for Rossville. Tacuma Alexander was suspended for a couple days last week at Rossville for an unknown reason. Aaron Corbitt, who participated in fall workouts before he left for Rossville at fall break, got kicked out of Rossville shortly before the Christmas break. Mentally losing these people didn't hurt us because of all the problems they we causing. Physically, losing your second leading scorer and leading rebounder who is 6'5 hurts.

Coach Froedden was suspended for 2 games per TSSAA rules for being ejected at Humbolt on Dec 20. He was not ejected in Centralia. He was suspended for a 3rd game because he coached in Centralia when he was supposed to be suspended.

Actually the Memphis area has a man who weekly collects all the stats from all the memphis area teams and compiles them. He provides the stats for the newspapers. This man also publishes a pre-season and post-season booklet with schedules, rosters, stats, ranking (player and team), and other stuff. Starting in January, he sends to the coaches a weekly update sheet with standings and stats for each division. I believe that coaches have to pay for this service, but everyone that I know does, because it makes scouting easier.

Notes to Self: Number 1: I think people aquire skills in sports by practice, not by how big their house is or how much their parents make or the area they live in. I see that Bartlett High, 2000 students, middle-to-rich area, has had averaged over 20 wins over the last few years. I see that Raleigh-Egypt high, in an area of poor-to-middle class, in a rough neighborhood and still has seen as much success as Bartlett has had. Number 2: The NCAA D1, D2, and D3 are not really split up for any other way than getting to small state schools and community colleges that play only football and men's bball, away from the schools that play all the sports and fill the stands. You can read how the divisions are divided up here: What's the difference between Divisions I, II and III? By ignoreing the number of scholorship rules and changing attendance numbers, all but about 5 to 10 Tennessee high schools would be in Division I. If you change the attendance rules, all but 25 Tennessee high schools would be D2 (Note: D2 schools are not required to give scholorships, but they may.)

How about we put all the teams in one big division. This would make schools play harder, get better coaches, and stop having 10 state champions in each sport. I believe the definition of a champion is the conquer or victor. There cannot be 10 of theme. Could you see the NCAA dividing D1 into D1A, D1AA, D1AAA, D1Private small, D1Private large. ESPN would go crazy. Maybe that is what tennessee high school sports fans should do. How about someone has to sit out a year if they change schools, unless they change counties. This will stop the legal movement between public, optional, and private schools. How about the small private schools stop crying about being poor. How about the small public schools crying about the small private schools beating them. How about the big schools stop crying about the rich private schools beating them. The poorer NBA teams don't get to play in the NBDL and the richer NBA teams in the NBA. Why do we divide up state High Schools, only to make things "fairer" for teams that don't and won't push to be the best. Over the past 10 to 15 years almost every school has finished in the top 4 in the state in a sport. Memphis Catholic used to be a powerhouse if you need an example. Screw stupid Multipliers and fiscal aid division that take a MIT graduate to understand. How about we put everyone together, play their butts off, and whoever is the best wins the state championship!

The NFHS says that teams from MO, TN, and AR are participation.

Didn't O'Fallon's best player transfer to Belleville West? I'm with Opperman, from what I think, Belleville has the best chance to go all the way. Harding is playing Marist in the first round. Marist is 8-0 and winning by an average of about 30 points agaist quality opponets. Roger Stieg was not too kind putting Harding v. them in the first round and then playing Rossville or Centralia. The TSSAA is not too happy with Centralia inviting Rossville. Here is what was said by the TSSAA in the sanctioning form, "TN-Can participate against member schools only. Rossville Academy is a non-member school but we would approve our schools to play them. They are approved by SACs and are a category 2 approved by TN State Dept. of Education." I am not totally sure about Rossville's record. I know they lost to Briarcrest by 8 (if i remember correctly). I am predicting Rossville to lose to Centralia by 30-40 points. Briarcrest is the best team Rossville has played. Harding would beat them by about 10 and Marist by 40-50 points.

I agree with you on some stuff. To become an offical you only have to pass an open book rule test with 70% correct. To become a postseason official you must pass a closed book test with 70% right. Shouldn't all officials at least know 70% of the rules without having to look at a rule book? On technicals, I am not sure if the officals have to report technicals. I think they do because they tell the scorer to fill out a piece of paper with the player, time, quarter, and officials. On ejections, the officials must fill out a report with the TSSAA by 8:00am the following day. That is to start the suspension and fine process. The tennesse officals have people (at least in memphis) that evaluate the officals. I have seen 5 or 6 at basketball and football games this year.
