  1. Nice match. Clark led through the match until late in the 3rd period. Mang throws Clark to his back -- gets the takedown to tie it, but no nearfall as Clark's shoulders are out of bounds. Goes to OT and Mang throws again and pins in 0:30 in OT. Congratulations. Prattville fell short on the team title though.
  2. (Again) For those interested, David Mang (Prattville) will be going for his first (and only?) AHSAA State Championship in the Championship Finals this evening. He faces Zach Clark (Bob Jones) whom he has defeated twice at 130 before both dropped to 125. Results are posted at www.AlabamaWrestling.Net
  3. Bad thing is.....with the administration that we have 'running' things down here, neither do we most of the time. (We had our own little drama over 6A Section alignments and 're'alignments just hours before the seed meetings/weigh-ins.)
  4. Here's a starting point.... http://www.kentuckywrestling.com/ http://www.kentuckywrestling.org/ http://www.kymat.com/ http://www.kyswa.org/
  5. Depends on the situation of the state. In my opinion, participation is key. We do NOT have enough schools participating in the sport to warrant 3 classifications. However, if we combined them, our large schools would dominate and discourage the smaller schools from starting up programs. It's a kind of double-edged sword. On the other issue, for the small number of programs we have, why bother "qualifying"? I don't know that I agree with GA's 5 divisions....but I do like their participation numbers. Maybe I'd like those programs divided into 2 divisions. Then again, they have a lot of programs (seems like, anyway), so maybe they could warrant 3 divisions. (??) I can't find much wrong with TN's....other than really needing to go double-elimination. I like your participation numbers. I can also see the upside of having public/private divisions. Let's just say we (AL) have a loooooong way to go to catch up to you two.
  6. fiscon- Kudos to you for what you do! I know what you're going through.
  7. FYI for those interested..... David Mang (Prattville) is currently ranked #1 at 125 in Alabama and will be wrestling this weekend in the AHSAA Class 6A Section 1 Tournament (hosted by Prattville). I'll do what I can to get results up. Most of you know, but for those unfamiliar, this is our qualifying weekend for the AHSAA State Wrestling Tournament on February 2-3, 2007. We have 3 classifications (6A=large school, 5A=mid-size, 4A-1Acombined=small schools). Top 4 individuals from Sectionals go to State (ugh....8-man bracket). However, this year the AHSAA has agreed to take us back (in time) to a 16-man bracket for Class 6A, so the top 4 individuals from 4 6A Sectionals will go to 6A State (16-man bracket). And, yes......that's ridiculously short for a high school wrestling season and ridiculously small for a State Tournament --- but hey, we're working on it. (We did manage to keep the double-elimination. Hope you guys get it soon.)
  8. CoachBlair- That makes so much sense that it's crazy. (That would have been a much better plan.)
  9. Click here Information is updated with links to Coaches (for those new to the sport or don't know the coach credentials). Also, near the bottom of the page is a link to the registration form. At the top of the registration form is a link to a downloadable (.doc format) form for easy fill-out/mail-in. Hope this helps you guys. Looks like another outstanding camp!! (jgannonnvp - sorry for the delay in getting the form online this week!)

  12. Benjamin Russell (AL) is scheduled. Head's up call........watch for Di Withers (112).
  13. Technically, Grissom's varsity was a half-show (some wrestled, some didn't). I'm not sure if their JV went to Buckhorn Border Wars or not, but their varsity came to Scottsboro. Unfortunately (in part due to the time of year), some of them sat on the sidelines with chicken soup and stitches (illnesses and injuries). Brendan Prince (160) took a hard shot above the eye in practice just a couple of days earlier. Stitches to close his eyebrow/forehead kept him sidelined. Ryan Prince and a few others had been in/out sick through the week. I had Baylor 57 ~ Scottsboro 15 from what I could gather on the score sheets. Baylor always beats up on us Alabama teams. Good luck to them in TN. Thanks for the good words regarding Scottsboro. I'll pass the compliment along. Didn't get to see some anticipated match-ups, but did get a few good matches anyway. It's been a while since I last saw Chase & Kyle lose in the same dual in the same day. Available results are posted here.
  14. Wow! So many (good/valid) questions.......so little time. Let me first say, that while I don't agree with everything Coach Dasaro does at Grissom (or any coach for that matter), I do respect him (along with many others). walkenvol- You didn't miss a thing, and I agree with you. For clarification, my understanding is Grissom sent a mixed squad to Parkview....not just JV only. Having said that, you either commit to send your best to me if that's what I'm after, or you make it clear your intentions. I completely understand sending mixed teams to tough competition to build strength and depth within your program. How else will your JV guys improve enough to realistically challenge for the V spot? As RMC pointed out, it's good for the JV --- just know where they're most welcome. However, I also completely understand wanting to build "the" toughest southeast region tournament for promotion within the region as well as 'bragging rights'. From Coach Stromie/Coach Beuglas's standpoint, I'm surprised they invited Grissom instead of Prattville or Scottsboro. I'm particularly surprised they invited Grissom after a Parkview/Grissom incident at the Hartselle Duals a few years back. I don't expect Grissom to be at Parkview next year. However, I've been wrong before. RMC- Correct. A few years ago, Grissom sent both squads to Athens Last Man Standing. Most of the V squad qualified for the finals --- which by the way, their V squad even being there suprised me. It happened to be a year that Baylor went.....who also qualified most of their V squad for the finals. Grissom boarded the bus and went home before the finals. There were a lot of questions, but I suspect Coach Dasaro did what he felt was best for his team to not risk injury (keep in mind, it was less than 2 weeks before our Sectionals weekend). They have not been back since. They have not (until this year) gone to Scottsboro Super Duals (Baylor comes every year). Grissom is one of the closest, in travelling distance, to Scottsboro, yet Coach Staton has a hard time getting Grissom to even schedule to come --- and a harder time keeping them from cancelling. cbg- You're right. At some point, you have to expect certain things as inevitable. Or 'expect the unexpected', I guess. Anyway, good luck to everyone over the Holiday break! Hope you and yours have a blessed Holiday season (whichever celebration you choose).
  15. Not positive. My guess is it will be a split team. Half will be going to Scottsboro Super Duals and half will be going to Buckhorn Border Wars. Neither will be a true V or JV team. (That's just a guess though.) BayouBear does his homework too. Forrest is at Dana College.
  16. No prob. I'm working on the smaller school guys now. For some reason, they're the most rabid for seeing rankings but the most difficult to get info from. Hopefully, they'll be up soon (same location, different class heading). As far as the Southside Classic (Duals?), I'll try to get the full list of teams expected. If I can find out who exactly will be there, I can give you a better idea of what to expect. Yes, that's the one. And pretty dominating down here (so far).
  17. Scottsboro Super Duals - Scottsboro, AL Saturday, December 23, 2006 Baylor (Chattanooga, TN), Scottsboro, Grissom, Hewitt Trussville, and Oak Mountain are currently scheduled. A team from Kentucky that was originally scheduled had to withdraw this week. Coach Chris Staton is looking for one addtional team to cover that absence to ensure 5 duals per team. The duals are scheduled for Saturday, December 23rd. This will potentially eliminate an overnight stay (depending on your travelling distance) if your state's high school athletic governing body has restrictions on your 1-day vs 2-day and overnight stay events. Coach Staton prefers to have the strongest team willing to show up. Contact Coach Chris Staton or Bob Cuthbertson if your team is interested. 18. Wow. Um.....okay.....well.....so I suppose that means they're not going to the Beast of the East, as indicated on their schedule, after all? BTW, thanks BayouBear. Good luck to y'all this weekend!
  19. The rule (maybe?) passed following Seth's 8th grade year. Sorry. Didn't mean to jack-a-thread. Back to topic..... I tend to agree with BayouBear. Surpised TN hasn't had at least one 5xer in DII.
  20. Michael Cuthbertson (Scottsboro) >First and only (so far)....5x AHSAA Class 5A State Champion >160 (2005), 160 (2004), 135 (2003), 125 (2002), 103 (2001) >48-0 as a senior >175-4 for his career >3.7 GPA (advanced courses), National Honor Society member RMC- Sorry. This thread got by me somehow. The AHSAA has always allowed the smaller schools (e.g., Weaver ~ hence, Sutton the 6xer and Wells the 5xer) to compete early (6th-8th grades) because of the size of the school. They recently (around 2000?) allowed 7th-8th graders to compete on varsity squads of 5A and 6A schools if (and only if) that middle school only fed one high school. Michael C. was the real deal. Younger brothers (twins) Chase & Kyle are on the same track as juniors this year. Tyler Osborn (Hoover) will be going for his 5th title this year as a senior. If he succeeds, he'll be the first ever to do it in AHSAA Class 6A (largest schools).
  21. I don't know about that, but they will have a good chance. Good luck to everyone going.
  22. Not sure how much it will help you, but Murray County usually posts the brackets online through their site (as a favor for) Dade County. Use the links below, and you can look at the results from 2005 and 2004. It may give you an idea of what teams to expect in 2006. However, Scottsboro (AL) will not be there this year. Fort Payne (AL) will be there. Brett Warren Invitational ~ Dade County H.S. (Trenton, Ga) 2005 brackets 2005 results summary 2004 brackets 2004 results (team) summary
  23. I'm confused, soms. What's the question? (Or was that a "huh?" of surprise rather than question?) Brendan Prince (Grissom) d. Brandon Wright (Houston), 6-4 in OT Brendan's older brother Jonathan was at Cumberland but transferred to Arizona State this year. Their younger brother Ryan is the 125 for Grissom. Not sure if that answered your "huh?", but that's the best I can do.
  24. Coach Delgado and Coach Holmes will have the results up soon, but until then enjoy the press in the Memphis Commercial Appeal. http://www.commercialappeal.com/mca/preps/...5186860,00.html
  25. (Confirming:) Grissom (AL) is scheduled to be there with 2 teams again. Good luck to everyone.
