  2. Not much to share (yet), but thought some of you would be interested. Bradley Central trails (day one of the Huntsville Invitational): Seven-time defending champion Bradley Central (TN) does not lead the varsity competition after the first day. Scottsboro is first with 73 points. Bradley Central (TN) has 66.5, Prattville 49.5, Bob Jones 44, Hartselle 35, Fort Payne 24.5, Blessed Trinity (GA) and Brookwood 24, Huntsville 22, Arab 21, Sparkman 15, Butler 6 and Buckhorn 3. Competition resumes this morning at 9:30 with championship semifinals and third-round consolation. The tournament is expected to end around 5:30 p.m. "All our kids are still in," Scottsboro coach Chris Staton said. "We wrestled well. We are taking it one match at a time." This information is published at the end of the following article: Athens wrestlers making right moves again by John Ferry (The Huntsville Times ~ December 3, 2005)
  3. Hamm- 1st, Thanks for the news accompanied with the 'confirmation' a la the Omaha press release. 2nd, Let me take this opportunity to direct you to this topic (and my guess) as it was presented on TheMat.com forums one month ago. Just consider it a lucky guess on my part. Too bad I wasn't right on both guesses.
  4. Phillip Simpson received the award given to the Army's top male & female athlete of the graduating class. (He was one of 3 who received this year's award. Apparently there was a tie between 2 females for 'top female' this year.) Read it here. Congrats again, Phillip!! thumb

  6. Soms- Um......we tried to tell you (*see previous posts by me, Hamm, & CoachDelgado) Hamm- Check your e-mail. WrestleSBA- You're right about Manson. He is getting looks from some guys already and has plenty of time to decide. Anyone else- Can someone tell me what Corey (& Tim) Manson's parents do for a living? I will be trying to contact Coach Morgan but wondered if anyone here could tell me anything on him (away from the mat.....I'm familiar with his mat credentials). Thanks in advance! ----------------------- “I like UTC’s commitment to the program. We will do our very best to continue taking it to a higher level. Every place that I have been a head coach, I have won a national title. That is our goal here.” - Coach Joe Seay, upon being hired as the new Head Wrestling Coach at UT-Chattanooga
  7. Well, it's "officially official" now!! CLICK HERE TO READ THE ARTICLE JUST POSTED ON GOMOCS.COM WOOO-HOOOO AND GO MOCS!!
  8. Very true, and I certainly agree with you that it's a good thing. These guys get to continue (in many cases, closer to home for them), and it builds programs to give us parity and a higher quality of wrestling overall (at all levels). However, I think a lot of those guys would love to go to an upper echelon program though --- if the opportunity was realistic. In many cases, it just isn't feasible for any number of reasons (their finances, their talent level/chance of starting, etc.). I would love to have been able to go to Iowa or Iowa State or somewhere like that. Heck, I would have been happy to be able to go to UTC or Appalachian State or others. For me, it just wasn't realistic or feasible. BTW, I hope I wasn't misunderstood, by you or anyone else, to maybe be categorizing UTC as a 'bottom feeder' --- definitely not the intent. I should have chosen better wording, but I simply meant (very generally speaking) any team that does not consistently finish in the top 10. In no way did I mean to diminish the accomplishments of those wrestlers and coaches who are able to go on to that 'next level' --- regardless of where it is or how they finish. Again, generally speaking, what kid wouldn't like to go to a top 10 program if they knew they could afford it and they knew they had a shot at starting? Luckily, there are plenty of opportunities (although Title IX, or at least the implementation of it, has hurt in a lot of ways), and there are those guys who are willing to seize those opportunities and make the most of them. Awesome. That kind of leadership is what it will take. Check out today's Chattanooga Times-Free Press article as posted on the mocfans.com message board. Click here. Wondering now how the current guys feel. Will they be happy with the choice? Will the Mocs gain any recruits that they would not have otherwise? Will they lose any recruits because of it? Doesn't matter really. Just wondering. Still a Moc-fan. Maybe more so now seeing the commitment to the program (by the Administration) and the direction of it.
  9. In my opinion, the only way age would "be a factor" is in the way that Hamm mentioned (i.e., "those who aren't familiar"). As far as losing recruits because of his age, I don't think that will have as much impact as losing recruits because of their age. There are a lot of guys now who may have never even heard of him, and several who have heard of him may not be too familiar with what all he has accomplished as a coach (as Hamm indicated). Bottom line = guys (well....all of us actually) want to win. They want to go to a program with a winning tradition or with a coach who has proven that he can win. Let's face it. No one wants to go to a program that's a 'bottom feeder' just like no one wants to go with coach known for not getting it done (relative to the level of the program and the coach, of course --- someone has to win, someone has to lose). If it holds to be true (and 'official' by the end of the week), I think it's a good move. Proud of UTC for taking the necessary steps to improve the already good program to make it better.
  10. .......and you can also go to www.joeseaywrestling.com I heard about it (the rumor of Joe Seay coming, keeping Steve Hamilton, and bringing Sammie Henson, etc.) over the weekend but didn't get much chance to talk to the Moc guys about it. Hard to imagine being this excited about UTC again (like I was when they announced the Terry Brands was coming)......but I am! Here's to growth (and national acceptance/recognition) at UTC!! thumb
  11. jgannonnvp- Thanks for the kind words (and for letting everyone know)! I received the updated info brochure on Wednesday (27th), but I had a problem (on my end) with my +Plus membership. I couldn't get on here to post the info, so thanks for helping me out. It's cool now........I'm back. thumb

  13. We struggled with only 3 seniors, a junior, 2 sophomores, the rest freshmen (and 1 eighth grader). TN's underclassmen are a step ahead of ours. I'd say y'all did a pretty good job of "scratching up a team". I thought NJ would take it.....especially when you spotted them 6 early. Big congrats to you for taking 1st in 9-12! Also, good to finally meet you. If you need anything, I'll do what I can. deaddux- I'm short on time today. I'll get the results up later (but soon). Only one I can give you right now is TN/AL. I'll post the rest or the score sheets or something at Alabama Wrestling Tennessee 39 ~ Alabama 22 103 West (A) d. Randolph (T), Fall 2:54 [0-6] 112 Thompson (A) d. 15. Any details on Team TN? A schedule of matches/times is available here courtesy of Team Palmetto/South Carolina. South Carolina's roster is also listed. Team Alabama should look like this. Hope to see you there this weekend!
  16. Hamm- A guy ('Zax' from the boards at TheMat.com) is driving in from Atlanta to meet me, and we're driving up from here. He has our tix but tells me we're in Section 304 with UTC. Look us up. We can't be hard to find. thumb
  17. Wow! What a turnaround....... After all this, Leen comes back to claim 3rd and qualifies to go to NCAAs. Patrick Simpson loses to Cooperman in the semis and then struggles through consolations to finish 6th and won't be going to NCAAs. Phillip Simpson defeats Manotti in the finals (8-7) to claim his EIWA Championship. Congrats to all of them! Also...... Matt Keller loses to Coleman Scott (Oklahoma State)....Scott goes on to pull another upset in knocking off top-seed Sam Hazewinkel (Oklahoma) in the finals. In a bit of a surprise to most, Kevin Ward gets a big win over Trent Paulson (Iowa State) in the semis --- and continues on to claim his Big XII Championship. 19. Hamm- Are you going to St. Louis? And did you get a copy of the Cornell/Lehigh dual (Jan. 14, Leen vs Cooperman) or the Oklahoma State/Lehigh dua (Feb. 13, K. Ward vs Zinck)l?
  20. Quarterfinals: 141 - #4 seed Patrick Simpson (Army) d. #5 seed Jordan Leen (Cornell), Fall 5:43 What may seem like a house divided (TN: Nashville vs Chattanooga/Cleveland) is actually pretty awesome when you consider that you have 2 guys wrestling this well at this level. Congrats to both of them. Also... 149 - #2 seed Phillip Simpson is on a roll. Could this be his year to make the NCAA finals? Let's hope so. http://goarmysports.collegesports.com/spor.../030405aaa.html
  21. The info, as listed earlier in this thread, is available here along with helpful links (coaches info, map, contact). The registration form (w/liability release) can be downloaded in a usable and uniform format here. thumb Hope the camp is a success!
  22. Sommers- Just sent you a PM reply to your PM. For everyone else, this is what I found: http://www.css-sports.com/getus.htm Soms.....if you have a separate Comcast package, then you should be able to get it. However, their info on their site says it's not available through DishNetwork or DirecTV........so I don't know what to tell you. Keep your fingers crossed. I'm recording in 20 minutes........
  23. They were available last year and the contact information was published on the TSSAA site. It isn't this year, so I don't know what the situation is. I will find out (as I'm sure others closer to the area will as well). I bought copies of each (D1 & D2) last year and will again this year if possible. Until we hear more, contact the sponsors (if you saw the broadcast) and thank them. Also, contact Mike Creagan of SporTsVision and thank him. You can also send a quick 'thanks' to Fox61 of Chattanooga for airing it. http://tssaa.org/schdir/Media/media_Detail.cfm?ID=245
  24. Since I couldn't make it up to Chattanooga for the TN show......I'm having to wait on results posted here. While waiting, I've been watching the Live WebStats for Iowa State @ Nebraska (Feb. 19) Congrats to (#8) Keller on the 4-3 win over (#11) Nakamura!
