  1. hoya75 I know Baylor was strong even before the split to D2 in the 1998 season. If anyone knows the history of boys soccer in that area and when the last time Baylor AND McCallie were both absent from the final 8 it would be interesting.
  2. Now that the sectional and sub state play is over and the brackets are out the initial post has been amended and the only real contenders for taking the TITLE are: AAA - Brentwood, Hendersonville, Farragut, McMinn County The first round matchup between Farragut and McMinn should be a good one with the winner having a lot of momentum going into the semifinals D2 - BGA, CBHS, Knoxville Catholic, Knoxville Webb BGA and CBHS may be favorites but the Knoxville schools are capable of going all the way. When was the last time Baylor AND McCallie failed to make the state quarterfinals? USN is the only team that has no shot of going all the way in this bracket. A/AA - Columbia Academy, FRA, Martin Westview, Sheffield Teams that haven't seen Columbia, Westview and Sheffield should not overlook them. FRA is the clear favorite in this bracket. I hope CAK and Lenoir City do well and wouldn't be surprised if one of them makes it to the finals.
  3. Svebakken no disrespect is meant towards CAK. I'm baseing it on their schedule which wasn't as strong as teams like CCS and LC, my opinion, and they aren't finishing strong as evidenced by the LC game. I think they have a chance to get to the finals but they won't get the ring again.
  4. AAA - Brentwood, Farragut, Hendersonville, McMinn County A/AA - Columbia Academy, FRA, Sheffield, Martin Westview II - BGA, CBHS, Knoxville Catholic, Knoxville Webb
  5. That's the best idea I have heard yet. Too bad it wont happen. Afraid you're right caksoccer. Went to the Mike Rose website and they have all their key events listed for the year except the State High School Soccer Championships. Opperman, you seem to be familiar with how things are run there. Any ideas on why this is excluded from their events? I'm pretty familiar with the Spring Fling (and if you come over here for it, you'll probably be able to figure out why), but I don't really have any connection with the Mike Rose complex. One guess would be that most events that come to Mike Rose -- including all the ones listed -- pay rent, while the fields are donated for the Spring Fling. Just a guess on my part. Thanks

  7. They could use the same system for the boy's tournament. Have AAA at Mike Rose stadium (with scoreboard). Have A/AA at Briarcrest (with scoreboard). Have D2 at Collierville (with scoreboard). All of mtnman's concerns would be addressed. All these fields are excellent, have scoreboard's and unlike the way it sounds they run the girls tournament, neutral fields for everyone. I disagree with mtnman about Finley. It's much too large a setting and there just aren't enough people that are going to fill the seats. Mike Rose's stadium complex is more intimate and fan friendly.
  8. AAA: Farragut versus McMinn County. Darkhorse Columbia Central A/AA: FRA versus Chattanooga Christian. Darkhorse Martin Westview D2: CBHS versus BGA. Darkhorse ECS

    ND/McCallie

I've been waiting to respond to the negative comments regarding the McCallie coach. Of course the comments expressed are your opinion but some, Blu in particular, have an agenda and spreading rumors about coaching changes is insulting. Here's not only my opinion, it's first hand knowledge having coached with him - Tony knows what he's doing and knows when to execute - the post season. For those that don't like the style of play you've seen based on the talent they have, keep in mind that most good teams have a dominant and a secondary style. I have not seen them play this year and although it sounds like they may be playing more direct than most would prefer, it doesn't mean that they can't possess and build more now that the games really do count for something. Hoya's right, Tony is a bit old to play on the field and probably has no eligibility left so the kids might have to step up themselves.

    help!

Trackman is correct but it's not as easy as it may appear on the surface. Please note that all that is required under Title IX is that an institution be in compliance with one part of the following tests. No one part of the test is the predominant or "true" measure of compliance. The three parts of the test are: Part One: Substantial Proportionality. This part of the test is satisfied when participation opportunities for men and women are "substantially proportionate" to their respective undergraduate enrollments. Part Two: History and Continuing Practice. This part of the test is satisfied when an institution has a history and continuing practice of program expansion that is responsive to the developing interests and abilities of the underrepresented sex (typically female). Part Three: Effectively Accommodating Interests and Abilities. This part of the test is satisfied when an institution is meeting the interests and abilities of its female students even where there are disproportionately fewer females than males participating in sports.
  11. Never use a recruiting service. They are a waste of money.
  12. Thanks for the information. Good for the CBHS coach. Sounds like a lot of quality counterattacking and set plays did them in. Something other teams they play this year will likely try to capitalize on. Of course, missing your centermid and GK didn't help matters.
  13. Sounds like ECS was just lucky to hang with the powerhouse and have everything go their way. The refs were on ECS side, the ball miraculously bounced ECS's way and two starters were out from the powerhouse, nationally ranked team. Anyone know why the starters were out from CBHS? Were they injured?
  14. That answers the questions. The rankings don't mean anything and CBHS may just be soso soso.
  15. Does anyone think these ranking are accurate? Is CBHS really that good?
  16. Unless they are playing them in a tournament, the answer is no. All schedules for high school soccer can be found at www.tssaa.org and select "schedules".

  18. Howdy Hoya, Because Stevscarb's example referenced a legitimate challenge that results in a foul on a scoring opportunity, either in basketball or soccer, I inferred the poster was comparing the inconsistency in how the fouls are treated in different sports. It doesn't matter which sport you watch, officials at the high school level are not going to be consistent in their application and interpretation of the law. This being the case, my point was to stink it up, deal with it and move on. I have no disagreement with the fact that soccer has an undue burden with regards to TSSAA reprimands. Even red card hand balls require TSSAA notification and review since it is deemed unsportsmanlike. Seems a little harsh considering the requirements for disciplinary action in other sports is virtually unattainable. I do think higher level refs can influence the game by a pre-game setting of expectations on what type of language will or won't be allowed. In fact, as you point out, there is no consistent definition for cursing so each ref should make it clear before the match want his or her definition is and what the consequences will be. The BEST refs, and you see this all the time in international matches, control things with their verbal and physical demeanor on the field. Those types are few and far between at the youth and high school levels but the ones we do have in Tennessee that are willing to step on the field knowing the type of grief they will get from coaches, parents and players have my respect.
  19. Stevscarb I agree with all but your last paragraph. If polite dissent is allowed in soccer you will extend the match from 90 minutes to 120 or 150 and besides, most polite dissent is only used by players and coaches to posture with the mistaken belief that they will not receive the next "bad" call that comes along. There isn't a referee that is going to call an infraction for no reason and if two players are going for the ball and the ref gets the call wrong that is part of the game and the players need to move on and understand they can't control referee decisions.
  20. Has Michael committed to Creighton yet?
  21. Hello Hoya! 98% certain it's Rogerio Lima.
  22. CBHS shouldn't stumble with the talent they have. Their "replacement" coach has been the club coach for most of their team and has recent professional experience. Chemistry on the field with so much talent will be the challenge for them. If they have it, they'll be extremely good. If they don't they'll still be very good.
  23. ....there isn't one. They are combined JumpAround. Not sure why since basketball is split. Several have requested it be split but no action has been taken yet.
  24. How does this proposed solution change things? As soon as a private school wins a championship in the upper division won't we have the same scenario that got us to the point we are at now? Isn't the fact that BA was alleged to be recruiting and consequently winning championships against large schools the whole reason TSSAA went in to investigate? How do you think the 5A schools will react when an MBA or Baylor wins state in any sport? Separate, promote/relegate or keep it as is but allow for representation from private schools on the board. Those are the alternatives.
