  1. I heard that Cookeville will be scrimaging Statford high school this Tuesday. Does anyone have any info on Stratford team and what they come in with this year. I appreciate any replies.
  2. Friday was a rain out at Tusculum. Soddy, Greenville and Cookeville scrimaged Thursday night in Tusculums indoor facilty. No clear winners or losers. All of the teams offenses looked better than the D's.
  3. Lincoln Co. is loaded with talent this year and should give Franklin all they want. Home field advantage (The Pit) and experience at the skill postions will give them a victory,

    FOOTBALL PRACTICE

Cookeville high school is up at Tusculum College with Soddy Daisy and North Gwinette out of Georgia. Greenville is also supposed to show up later during the week. Go Cavs!
  5. How did the field get into such bad shape to start with? Everyone in the state played Friday nights in the rain.
  6. North Gwinette will be at Tusculum college and camp all this week. I understand that they will be scrimmaging Cookeville and/or Soddy Daisy and/or Greenville Thursday night and maybe Friday morning. Sounds to me like they are really asking for punishment going up against Maryville on Friday also. North Gwinette is usually a solid team, but I think that may be over stretched this time.
  7. Cookeville will be joined by Soddy Daisy and North Gwinnette out of Georgia, at Tusculum college. Greeneville will be travelling over to Tusculum for scrimmages Thursday and maybe Friday. All three teams are good teams for the Cavs to scrimmage with and should help them develop their talent before the season starts.
  8. First, I just wanted to say that I grew up in Clarksville and attended CHS. I am deeply concerned about what is happening with high school sports in Montgomery county. It is a shame that the school board has not risen to the occasion and properly funded 9th grade and JV programs. Through the 60's 70's and 80's, some of the best teams in the state, came out of Clarksville and now high school sports has been dealt a severe blow in the county. Montgomery county is one of the biggest counties in the state and should be able to adequately fund academics as well as athletics. Come on Clarksville, go the extra mile and figure out what really matters, your youth. If the leaders of Montgomery county put their heads together and heart into it, they will succeed. ELA's suggestion is a good one for this fall, but it would be tough to put together some type of youth football league this late, but it could be done, with parental and community support. I hope everyone who reads this thread understands that high school sports is not guaranteed to be funded and must be managed by administators, coaches and parents, to stay successful. It takes a lot of work and commitment. Hopefully, they wil overcome this obstacle. Good Luck!
  9. I believe Cookeville and Father Ryan are scheduled for a scrimmage 8/15/03.
  10. Cookeville Cavs program is getting consistently stronger each year and we are extremely proud of their players and coaches. When someone say's something negative about the program, who cares! Your community supports you and we are looking foward to this year. GO CAVS
  11. Cavaliers are starting to look more polished during the summer passing league. Ledford is getting his timing down better. The other surprise is team speed. They appear to be much faster this year and still have some good size on the line. Alot of experience at the skill positions Time will tell if the Cavs depth will be enough to get them through a successful year. I look for them to be one of the top two teams in the region.
  12. I could not help but notice Hixon's Nick Rivers at DE. He was constantly smoking the right tackle with his speed. He was in the backfield, forcing the West to hurry throws and running backs to alter their running lanes. He was not a MVP, but he was in my book.
  13. The 1967 Cookeville High School went 10-0 that year and had players such as Watson and Mack Brown. I remember watching them run over a very good Clarksville HS team in the Civitan bowl in Hartsville.
  14. Lincoln county, Franklin county and Cookeville should all have a shot at being a top 10 team. All of these teams have a good talent base and good coaches. Look for all these teams to slip up on someone this year.
  15. Steve Medlin at Cookeville High School is one of the best OL coaches in the state. He is a great motivator and coach for the Cavs.
  16. Cookeville and Franklin County will be playing in Winchester on October 31st.
  17. I heard today that Coach Rhodes will be resigning from his head coaching job at the end of the school year. This is a unsubstantiated rumor and I hope that it is not true. If anyone has heard anything, please post.
  18. Cookeville's Brent Ryan is one of the best in the state! He is the top dog in my book.
  19. Both attributes make up good football team. I believe that strength can be more of a detemining factor in those close football games. It usually starts showing itself in the 4th quarter of a game. I think the best combination is strength and quickness, not necessarily pure speed.
  20. I know the Cavs are feeling down tonight, but you guys have had a great year. You have shown that you are a class team and you have developed into a team that succeeded with pride, teamwork and a genuine respect for your teamates and coaches. Seniors, thank you for your leadership this year. You are a great bunch of guys. You have set the standard for future teams to reach. I am proud to be a Cav dad and want to thank Coach Joslin and your team for making this a memorable year. Go Cavs Cav Dad #60
  21. Heavy rain, high winds and 40 degrees on the mountain Friday night. A great night for football in Cookeville. Who knows, maybe it might snow before the game is over. Cavs can get the job done. GO CAVS !!!!

    Cookeville.....

I want to commend all the players and coaches on a great job, Friday night. Cav pride really showed up in the second half of the game. Good teams find ways to win and I am very proud of this years team. You have now reached one of your goals for the year and now it is time to focus on the upcoming playoffs. GO CAVS!!!!
  23. If you are a Cookeville Cav player, you have been told to stay off this thread!! I think you should do what your coach's asked you to do and quit adding fuel to the fire. Both teams are good teams and it will be a great night for this high school rivalry. You know, I wonder if you guy's are even on the team? I bet NOT.
  24. Crossville probably has one of the best teams they have had in many years. Alot of senior experience and a they play very physical. Cookeville will have to bring their best effort to defeat the Jets. Hopefully, they will be mentally prepared for this important regional game. GO CAVS!!! PS. TDH, the smack talk is a bit too thick.
  25. Jerry Joslin with Cookeville High, gets my vote.
