  1. Yeah, Covington really took care of business last year huh? I worry more about Marshall County than I do Covington. Covington hasn't played any legit state contenders this year and the one team they played that was pretty good (Obion CO.) they almost lost. Crockett soundly beat their two toughest opponents, McNairy Co. and Milan. I can't wait for the playoffs to get here. This is the best time of the year. Volfan911
  2. I want to hear from some Marshall Co. fans after this game. If they are not impressed with the size and speed of South Side...well, let's just say they will be. South Side has enough talent to be a one or two loss team. They just don't have the coaching to win the big games. Marshall County could come into this game thinking it's gonna be easy. But South Side is the most talented losing team I think I've EVER seen. They have the size and speed to dominate, yet for some reason they don't. I've played against a good Marshall Co. team and they're size a couple years ago did not compare at all to South Side's this year. If Marshall Co. is anything at all like the Marshall Co. of the past few years, I think they may be outmatched in the size and speed category. However, Marshall Co. has the advantage in coaching, plus they have a big play back unlike South Side. It will be closer than most people expect. Volfan911
  3. I would like to take this time to send a personal thanks to Coach Marley at USJ for brightening the day of my little cousin, an elementary student at USJ, who had surgery just over a week ago to remove a brain tumor. Coach Marley had a USJ jersey made with my cousin's name on the back and had all the football players sign a ball and delivered it to the hospital. Aaron is a big USJ fan and that really lifted his spirits. USJ should be proud to have a class act like Marley heading their football program. Volfan911
  4. According to one of my friends on the UTM football team, alot of the players went to the AD and told him to get rid of McCorkel or they were going to quit. I never did like the guy when i was getting recruited by UTM. Volfan911
  5. I'm not trying to speak for Coach Pratt, but I very seriously doubt he would even consider taking that job if offered. Now, let's make it understood that this is total speculation and we're NOT TRYING TO START ANY RUMORS. I think Coach Pratt, with some experience as a recruiter, could end up being a good college coach on the D1 level. He's young and has the confidence and personality that high schools players would like to see in a college coach. If he ever leaves Crockett County, I hope it is to take a position coach at a D1 school, then move up the ranks. I think he has the ability to do it if he chose to. Again, I'm not trying to speak for the man as I don't have a clue what his aspirations are as a coach. But as one of his former players, I think it would be pretty cool to see him coaching at a big time college program one day. Volfan911
  6. I'm not mad at all. Don't assume that others take this stuff as seriously as you do. Just because I get bored sometimes after class and feel like engaging in a discussion doesn't mean I really care. I never made fun of the Answer and I didn't say he had an ego problem. I noted a few obvious flaws in his poll and YOU chose to jump in and act as if I should care what you think. I mean really, is all you can think of to say is "stop whining"? That's basically your whole argument. Funny, I remember those same kind of retorts from back in my elementary school days. This should be the end of this discussion. Volfan911
  7. I give my vote right now to Artis Pitts. I hope to see the kids from Marshall County and Trousdale County in the playoffs. Evaluating talent and importance of players to their respective teams is hardly an exact science. It would be nice if all of them could win, but then there wouldn't be any controversy...we can't have that now can we??? Volfan911
  8. Joe01, I guess I replied to your post since it was the last in the thread. I don't go back up and click reply on the post I wish to reply to. I read them all and then click reply on the last one. It's no big deal. Don't cry about it. Really, all I'm doing is offering counterpoints. I don't see any instances of whining. That's pretty lame. All I'm doing is questioning his logic and knowlege of the teams he's ranking, one of which is my old high school. I wasn't aware that it was whining when you question someone's opinion. 9. I usually don't pay attention to fan polls on here as they are always subject to biases and can hardly ever be objective. I took particular interest in yours because, while you seem to portray yourself as somewhat of a know-it-all, you really don't know anything about some of the teams you rank. You base your thoughts on teams on what they did LAST year (for the record, Crockett Co beat Covington last year, therefore by your logic Crockett should be ranked ahead of the Chargers). I wonder what you know about Crockett Co. that you didn't read in a newspaper or see on a website. Again, I'm not claiming to know more about your teams than you do about mine, but then I'm not the one acting as if I know enough about all these teams to be able to produce an acurate poll. When I first posted in this thread, I said that I thought Crockett Co. deserved to be ranked higher based on a solid argument that, as an undefeated team, they should be ranked higher than a 2-loss team. You then replied and stated that when "my" teams beat "your" teams, then you would rank them higher which contradicted your reasoning since you rank Covington higher than AE even though the Chargers have not played or beated AE. I doubt you know anything about Covington either. Tell me, why do you rank them higher than AE? Most people around West Tennessee would tell you that Covington isn't as good as Crockett Co. this year. Covington has played arguably zero legit state contenders and barely beat an Obion Co. team that probably won't make it past the 2nd round. Did you even know that Covington lost it's star RB in early in the year? I'm not saying they're not a good football team. I'm just wondering why YOU think they deserve to be ranked higher than Crockett and AE. My final point is that, if you're going to make a poll, realize that it's not going to be objective and it is not based on a lot of tangible information. Don't act as if you know something we don't. I think that's why some people take offense to your polls. It's a free country and you can think as you wish, however that certainly doesn't make you more enlightened than the next guy. Volfan911
  10. It doesn't matter what AE did to Crockett last year (it was a 6 point game, that's not domination...i was there and watched the whole thing just like you) but AE was a better team. The problem is, this isn't last year, AE has two losses, and one would have to be totally biased to rank them above an UNDEFEATED (that better?) Crockett County. Last year is irrelevant. I'm not saying Crockett County is going to win the state, I'm just saying that a two-loss team has no business being ranked above an undefeated team that has played quality opponents. Also, you failed to comment on how your poll is flawed, shall I explain again? Okay, since you feel "my" teams are not deserving to be ranked above "your" teams, why is Covington ranked above AE? Who have they defeated this year to deserve that? There you have it - your poll is based on nothing but uneducated guesses. Sorry. The bottom line is, your poll is flawed because you have no knowlege of any of the good teams in West Tennessee. Your poll is far from objective. I don't claim to know anything about your area's teams. And you know what? That's why I don't make polls and act like I'm right and nobody can argue with me. By the way, if you want to get into a silly little grammer and spelling war, go to another board. That's the kind of immature mess we can do without. 11. By your logic, since teams in region 2 haven't beaten Fayette Ware (by far the worst team in region 6) they could be ranked lower than Fayette Ware. Sounds like pathetic reasoning right? Well that's exactly what you're saying. My point is, that unless you know about all the teams you're ranking, it's pointless to even make a poll. Also, when did Covington beat AE? By your logic, Covington should be lower in your poll since they haven't beated AE yet they're ranked ahead. Sounds like your poll is pretty flawed and arbitrary. Volfan911 [Edited by volfan911 on 10-29-02 6:48P]
  12. All I want to know is how in the world you can rank undefeated Crockett County below teams with 1 or 2 losses. They are UNDERFEATED and deserve a higher ranking until they lose. It's not like they are like lower-tier team who is just happening to have a good year. They were toe-to-toe with AE last year in the CHAMPIONSHIP game and I would argue they are even better this year. I mean, how many 2 loss teams to do see in the top 6 in college football? I don't care who they lost to. That's not how you work a poll. Crockett has beated some very good teams this year. McNairy was an early contender and still is a real threat come playoff time and Crockett Co. spanked them. Milan is one of the better 2A teams this year - Crockett spanked them as well. Lexington and South Side are two talented teams - Crockett beat them both and only have one more game to be undefeated and it's a gimme. Just because you know little about a team doesn't mean they deserve a lower ranking. Volfan911
  13. Thanks for the stats TheBoredGuy. Artis also averaged over 10 yards per carry his sophomore and junior seasons. His average is down a bit, but his TD's are up. Volfan911
  14. Oldbruin, I agree that Artis isn't as impressive as Williams. But the kid is still good. I don't know which 5 games you watched, but I've watched him play nearly every game since he was a freshman and he is as good as the last two or three winners of the 3A Mr. Football back I can tell you that much. In Crockett's offense, players don't really stick out that much. The plays are designed to get 4-5 yards every play. You don't see a lot of very long runs and the backs usually just have time to make a cut or two before the holes close - but it works. Artis has pretty good speed and a lot of power for his size. I know it's not all about stats, but stats represent *production* and is that not what is ultimately expected out of players? By your reasoning, Weurfel should have not won the Heisman in '96. He's not an highly talented player but a product of the system he was in. And just as he was the key element of his team, Artis is the key element of Crockett's offense. Don't forget that Artis also plays cornerback the entire game as well as carrying the load at RB. He's getting looked at by some D1 schools so obviously he has some talent. Oh yeah, I'm guessing you're a USJ fan. BTW, ya'll hyped up the Deloach kid to no end and he was not that good either IMO. It's just a part of supporting our players I guess. We can argue over these awards until we're blue in the face. It would be nice if they could all win, but if they could then there'd be no controversy and in turn no use for these boards to argue about stuff BTW, someone in this thread mentioned the Biggs kid from Marshall Co...that kid was weak. He was by far the easiest linebacker I blocked all year our senior year. He was an okay runner but nothing special. It's all about hype. Volfan911 [Edited by volfan911 on 10-23-02 12:14P]
  15. we'll see. I doubt he has anything on Earnest Williams. Earnest is probably the best athlete to ever come through Crockett County High School. If Davis is better than Williams, then he will be playing for a big time D1 school one day. What is Mario Davis built like? Be honest, I can't stand it when people exaggerate stats. What kind of numbers has he put up this year? Volfan911
  16. Artis should have been up for Mr. Football LAST year as a junior. He played on a team that went to the championship game and his stats were as good as any of the finalists if I remember correctly. Williams could end up being a big time D1 prospect as a DB as he already has the size and speed. Artis is kinda short and needs to gain about 15-20lbs if he is gonna play RB in college. I hear that Vanderbilt may offer him if he makes his ACT score. He's a good kid and I wish the best for him. Volfan911 [Edited by volfan911 on 10-21-02 6:44P]
  17. I'd like to see that happen. Lexington is a pretty darn talented team but suffers from having too many young players at key positions. They'll be tough in the near future. I hope South Side loses somehow to the tigers so they can go to Marshall Co. in the first round. I would then predict an upset for the Hawks. Volfan911

  19. I notice Earl Nall has Marshall County at #3 while Coach T. has Marshall County at #10. That's a pretty large margin but I wonder of the two, which has seen Marshall County play. Isn't Coach T from Middle Tennessee? If so, I would assume he might have seen them play so I trust his opinion on them. I don't know Earl Nall, but judging from his rankings year in and year out, it seems that he bases his rankings only on what he hears and not what he sees if you catch my drift, though I could be wrong - just making an observation. He has obviously not seen South Side since he dropped Crockett Co. THREE spots just because the Hawks play Crockett to a 10 point game. Folks, South Side is one of the most underachieving teams I've ever seen whether it's on the high school, college, or pro level. That team is BIG and FAST. They could play toe to toe with anyone in the state in 3A. Crockett County can move the ball on anyone in the state. I've seen and played against big time defenses (e.g. Milan in '99). South Side had one of these defenses, trust me. Crockett Co. was still able to put together solid drives and open up some huge holes on a night when they honestly weren't playing as well as they could have been in my opinion, but that happens to even the best teams once in a while. Unless one has seen South Side, one can't understand how talented they are. It's really a shame they're not playing better and if I were a Hawk fan, I'd be really upset. I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but it's a shame when you have a defense with that much talent, an O-line that is pretty darn huge and athletic, and speed everywhere, yet you still can't get a win against at least one of the teams they've lost to - Mcnairy Co. (a good 3A team), JCM (a highly ranked 5A team), Northside (a good 4A team), Crockett Co. (one of the top two or three teams in 3A), and Haywood Co. (a good 4A team). Sorry for such a long rant. Volfan911
  20. I'm not familiar with Marshall County's team this year. I was under the impression that they weren't that great this year. I remember playing them and watching them the following year back in 99 and 2000 and they weren't particularly big then. I don't see Crockett facing any tea with more size up front than South Side. Those guys aren't just big, they're pretty darn athletic as well. Volfan911
  21. When I saw South Side come out on the field to warm up, the only thing I could think about was "how in the world is this team only 2-4???" I thought they were down this year as far as size and speed was concerned based on their record. But after seeing them, I don't understand why their not undefeated and ranked among the top teams in the state. I also don't understand why Coach Hayes can't take these boys to the state. I'm sure he's a great guy and all, but the man has had some very talented teams that have just fizzled out in the 2nd and 3rd rounds of the playoffs. All I can say is that if Crockett County's line was even close to being as big and athletic as South Side's there would not be a team in the state that could even hope to stop them. You have to tip your hat off to Coach Pratt and Coach Brady (Defensive Coordinator and line coach). They take kids who aren't blessed with much size at all and teach them how to still get the job done. It was amazing to see our line open up gaping holes last night against a line that was obviously bigger and more athletic. It's just a combination of the boys playing with heart and knowing what to do from being coached well. I'm really excited about this team and think they are at the very *least* the number 2 team in the state. I haven't seen Trousdale and maybe they're deserving of their #1 ranking, but if they meet Crockett Co. in the state championship game, they better come ready to play and play hard. Volfan911
  22. South Side has beaten Crockett once in the last 5 years if I remember correctly. Crockett is too good for this to be very close, but who knows. I say Crockett Co by three TDs Volfan911

    3A Ap poll

As a former Cav myself, I'm very proud of the way they are playing in all phases of the game. The O-line has stepped up in a major way and is creating running lanes for the super combination of Pitts and Williams - in my opinion, the best RB combo in 3A hands down. The defense is playing inspired football and the kids are flying to the ball and gang tackling. The special teams are great with sophomore Alberto Diaz being a threat to kick a field goal from anywhere within 50 yards. His very high, short kickoffs keep opponents from returning kicks as well as keeping them back for poor field position. Teams have sinced realize the only way to keep something bad from happening on a kickoff is to call for a fair catch - otherwise the up-back is going to get his head clocked and likely fumble the ball. I love watching this team play and they have a great chance to be undefeated. I see them making it all the way to the state for a tough showdown with Trousdale County. I have to admit, I had my doubts as to whether they would be a legit top 2 or 3 team this year, but they have really stepped up their game. The win over Milan was great, but most people in the county sort of expected it - which is a sign of a good program turning into a *great* program capable of being a perennial powerhouse. Volfan911
  24. I got to give my vote to Daniel Brooks. He's got the perfect size and speed to develop into either a stud inside linebacker or a Leonard Little-type rush end. Volfan911
  25. Cavcav, I wasn't implying that you thought the Jackson Sun talked bad about Crockett Co. Didn't mean to make it sound that way. I was honestly just pointing out that they give us good coverage now that we have a good program. Sorry for the confusion. Volfan911
