As we know R.Ferrell has always been selfish about coaching the QB position. Does he get out of coaching football or will Stacy tolerate him wanting to coach the QB's? Give the gig to P.O. and be done with it! No one else is going to come in and take this job. The obvious choice at this point in time is P.O. due to the fact AD Turned has made himself look inept with this process. Let P.O. have his three - four years and find someone else down the road.

P.O. can't be a serious contender for the head coaching position, come on now. The article in JC Press was nice, that was all it was! He needs to go outside the JC school system to be a head coach. Don't think that will ever happen. It's hard when you've been in one system/school your whole career.

How about Mac McCurry? Wasn't he in the running last time?

Who do you think the back stabbing assistants were on staff? As stated/shared in an earlier post, the new coach deserves to build a core group of his selected assistants once they have been hired by the BOE. If not this will continue to be a problem!

Science Hill would be so fortunate to have Turner return as head man. He needs to clear some spots on the coaching staff if it happens or whoever should be "The Man" on The Hill!

Thanks for the information. Toppers did compete against some top quality oppoents, they also competed against some lower tier teams and didn't have much success (Easley for example). That is surprising, being that Smith (offense) & Overbay (defense) are going into their 3rd year leading the team, offense, & defense. With new alignment / classification, the play-offs will the BIG test! Did the players get to meet a Clemson great in Gaines Adams?

How did the Toppers do in South Carolina @ the Palmetto 7 on 7 Showdown? Hope we showed Byrnes, Hoover, and other teams around the Southeast how to run a spread offense and how to defend against it. I'm sure Coach Ferrell enjoyed visiting with Steve Tannyhill from Chesterfield!

Tougher to win a basketball title, compared to winning a football title? I disagree with that statement. Look at the early to mid to late 90's, in reference to advancement in the football playoffs for Science Hill: '92 - 1st round loss / '93 - quarter round loss / '94 - quarter round loss / '96 - 2nd round loss / '98 - 2nd round loss (in 1997 & 1998 Elizabethton & D-B were weeks 1 and week 2 games. Also, played Oak Ridge and as a non-region game in ’97 & ‘98. Beat a Clinton team in the 1st round that had beaten Oak Ridge earlier in the season (if I remember right). Dave had his grandsons playing for him at Elizabethton and were getting beaten in the semi's by Maryville in '97 & '98. Once again Science Hill looks like they have a very slim chance of making the play-offs. With losses already to Sevier County & Bearden, they would have to run the table against Campbell County, Karns, Jefferson County & Dobyns-Bennett to remain in contention for a possible 4th spot. Unless they get some help! They could beat Campbell County, Karns & Jefferson County ... forget beating Dobyns-Bennett! Can they do it?

How does the Region 1-5A break down for the 2005 season and how will does Science Hill look?

Let me hear what your thoughts are on the Head Coaches in Region 1-5A. Rate them from top to bottom.

The point is that you did not seal the DEAL! 5-5 record and did not make the play-offs, that is the reality of the situation. I still believe there needs to be a coaching change at Science Hill. Hire Randy Ferrell as the head man, if you can't get him to take the job, bring Turner or McClanahan back. McClanahan went 5-5 his last year and made the play-offs. He even won a game in the play-offs his last year before losing to D-B. Something has got to be done. Bowles has a 14-28 record his 4 years as head man. An average of 3wins-7losses a year during his tenure. You can't lose to BEARDEN on homecoming.

Toby Patton made it only to the play-offs once (his senior year, 1992). You must be thinking of Terry Copeland and the 1993 & 1994 teams. Patton was not the MAN, COPELAND was the MAN!
