  1. Coach Graham hired former UT Vol Olineman Jarvis Reado as O line coach. He is doing a great job from what I hear. Also guy name Mike Cursio who played with Thundercats and European League. He also hired former AE QB and University Furman Player/Graduate Chris Lowery as QB coach. Got rid of a lot of the entourage that has been there for years. I hear he hired another coach from either Webb or Catholic. And have Memphis Ridgeway LB coach and Dcoordinator who will be in Knoxville in May. He always work the UT clinics for Coach Fulmer. As far as players he returns the receivers you mentioned. They are also loaded at RB. Their J.V. went 7-1 losing in a rain monsoon versus OakRidge by 1 point. Their line will be better than last year. Thai Young was a 2 year starter but got hurt last year. If he returns healthy then he willbe one of the areas best. 2 other lineman not mentioned are Rodney Billings and Justin Thompson. This will be one of the more deeper group on the Oline. Guys who didn't play are playing now. 2 newcomers to look out for our Tyrell Pelcher and Dana Littlehjohn on line; Jamarcus Davis (RB,QB,DB) Brandon Lopez (freshmen QB). They are deep and talented. Talked to a returning coach on the staff and he said Graham seems to have things slowed down over there and being a head coach is not so new to him. He is very pleased with his staff and the kids he have returning. Coach Sam Brown said the difference is things kids are mean and aggessive. That was another reason why it was important to get a good professional staff there that coan teach discipline and fundamentals.
  2. In the 80's Austin East high school was nationally ranked in football. Sam Anderson was their coach. He won the state in Football and Track in the same year. That year he was both the head football coach and head track coach. I hear Stevens coached football and track at Austin East in 2001. He won the state championship. Usually a head coach at established programs are more managers. When you have great programs you have great assistance or an assistant who can run the program in the head coach absence. I hear talk about Minor being a head coach soon why can't he handle the off-season if it is planned by the head coach. It will prepare him for being a head coach and running a program. I would bet that it is already being done that way. Don't know Minor but from what I read and know about Stevens he must be very competent for controlling Stevens to trust his offense to him. It is done a lot of places. I think it is an advantage for the head coach to coach track. You get to keep up with your kids. Track can definetely get you faster. If you require your skill position guys to run track you benefit two ways. 1st they get faster. Secondly you can monitor them in other aspects. The biggest problem these days with kids is keeping them involved in the off season. You talk to any head coach they will tell you that. I have kids in middle school and 1 in college now. Kids these days are not as committed as they were. They have too many other things they are into now. When we grew up there was nothing bigger than playing high school sports. I played in a small town and it was the biggest thing you do. Everybody knew you and knew you were on the team. Now a days kids are a little more maturer and into maturer things. They all drive cars, they all have cell phones, they all have computers, and they ALL seems to have MONEY. That always puzzles me! I think it is wise for the Coach Stevens to coach track. Not to mention he has mouths to feed. It isn't like he was paid what the other coaches were paid. (don't know if this is true.. but what I heard) -think about it.
  3. Great reply. I agree 100%. Giles County and Ae are very similiar from what I seen. Good luck Fulton and AE. Can't wait to see Liberty.
  4. Thanks Turtle. Back to Giles game. I do know Giles county looks very similiar to AE. I seen them play once. Quick and athletic. I did notice they pressure the ball well. They are streaky shooting but #32 and 24 were players. Ae could be dominate inside but that just doesn't seem to be their game. I hope and wish they were a little more patient on the offensive side of the ball. But then again they like playing up tempo game and maybe slowing it down will get them out of that comfort. That is why Mitchell is the coach only he would know.
  5. Once again everyone else has superior coaching. AE girls win it and the first thing you hear is they recruit through magnet program. Coach Mitchell is a great high school coach. How many coaches have done in Tennessee. Can you deal with what coach Mitchell has to deal with everyday and be as successful as he has been. It is not easy to win a state championship. You need talent, consistency and LUCK!. Tell me this ... (before I say this I must clarify 1 point.. I think Fulton's coach is a great high school coach. He has been coaching for years and recently has made it to the state playoffs. Also Fulton high school has recently gotten a lot of talent over there) how can Fulton high school feeder school (Whittle Spring) barely win a game but the high school team are one of the state's best. Two things great coaching and getting other players to come to that school. The same with Austin East, there middle school program has not won the county in a while but they repeatedly get to the playoffs. Since moving I haven't got to see them a lot. I did however go to North Carolina and see them play against NC defending state champions. AE won the tournament. Coach Mitchell is a great coach. If he had his success anywhere else people would commend him on his coaching. Tubby Smith won with Petino Talent, John Thompson just had superior athletes, Dungy .....Oh yeah he had Peyton Manning! Good luck to Fulton and AE. Fulton you guys just play ball. There is no doubt your school knows how to be champions (football). I can remember Science Hill beating the Crap out of Ron Mercer and Oak Hill Academy in the early 90's. It can be done.
  6. False statement about magnet program. 95% of the kids at Austin East are zoned kids. Like stated earlier Fulton, West and Carter high school actually have kids that live in AE zone that transfer out. Matter of fact AE has the smallest zone in Knox County. Its kids that live less than 3 blocks from the school that are zoned to go 20 minutes away to Gibbs high school, 20 minutes away to Carter high school and 20 minutes away to South Doyle High School. Go on the KNox County Web site and look at the zones. Its amazing how this school is able to continue to compete. Great job AE. Great job Webb.
  7. Spoke with Graham in Oak Ridge this Sunday. He too thinks Scott County will be pretty good. He said they were young last year but have a lot of pride. He also siad that he is concerned with Anderson County next year. I asked him about scheduling Fulton so late. He said that it really didn't matter because Fulton always starts to peak at that time but he didn't want to have to play Fulton and Catholic back to back again. He said that was actually the original date they were suppose to play. Stevens and Coatney moved it to week one due to the gate. (Both are basically inner city schools key money game). Is it true that after the 2008 season Fulton, Anderson County, Carter, Seymour and Catholic will move to 4A. I heard this too? What will happen to region 1 and region 2? Please enlighten me on this. I thought Catholic was too small.
  8. Thanks. His name is James Booker. They also had a running back named cory booker I just found out. Both were great backs. Where is Cory Booker now? I see Duke sometimes. Clinton it is strange for them to be that good but doesn't continue to high school. I could understand if CMS was that good but the high school team was mediocre but the high school program has not been very good the last few years. Maybe it will change.
  9. Didn't they go 4-6 in 1986. Didn't they go 5-5 the year after Joe Gatis won the state. Didn't they go 5-5 in one of Lusier years and didn't make the playoffs. Matter of fact why didn't they win the state the year they had Adrian (don't know his last name heck of bball player) and Duke (a westside knoxville native) I think his last name was Booker. I don't know the answer to this question but what was the senior class records when they were in junior high or little league? From my understanding Clinton middle school beat the mess out of both of the junior highs when these kids were in 8th grade. I don't even know if this was true. But I heard that they did not dominate like Oak Ridge programs have done before. Football is not all about X's and O'x it is sometimes about the Jims and the Joes. From what I hear Oak Ridge has a very talented sphomore and freshmen class. I think Stevens could have got involved in the championship hangover (interviews, clinics, meetings, a long season, the feeling of satisfaction, etc. etc.) It happens to a lot of coaches. That is when the assistance must work harder to keep the program going. If none of the assistance have the balls to take charge when the head is lacking then they will not make great head coaches. Sometimes you have to challenge the head (in a professional and positive way). If he doesn't take it then his future will be short also. Maryville has former head coaches on their staff. This allows the head man to do the things that come with reaching the championship. Fulton has a former head coach on the staff. Matter of fact he coached the present head coach. Maybe the staff at Oak Ridge is still maturing. I think they will get better and better. BUT only TIME will tell.
  10. Both are good high school players. What happens in college is still in question. I commend Chris Shiverdecker for his effort to do whatever it takes to get into school. From what I understand he is taking an overload of classes to make it. I heard he was placed in classes early in high school that wouldn't count toward clearinghouse. I guess teachers at that time didn't thnk he would become a NCAA recruit. From what I understand Rogan was in the same situation academically. I hope both of these young men can take care and have the opportunity to play college football and experience the atmosphere. Football wise I hear that colleges think Shiverdecker hs reached his potential and has no more growth physically. I guess most colleges look at potential growth and make there decision on that. There is no question that with Rogan UT has to take him because he is the best player in town. If they let him get away then ... well.. the media would eat Fulmer alive. Don't get me wrong I think he can play and a great running back. But an elite RB in SEC I have to see. Everybody on defense can run and hit. 11 games at his size we will have to see. But Coker has done well. Maybe in the AllStar games Rogan can show everybody that he can play at that level. But both of these young men are winners.
  11. What about former ETSU standout and Landstown Virginia coach Chris Beatty. He is currently the offensive coordinator at Hampton University. I am willing to bet Science Hill will pay as much as he is getting there. He led Landstown to national ranking. Onme of the top offensive minds in football. Coach some great players including Percy Harvin now at Florida.
  12. That is true at AE also. The first year he was there Stevens said that was the most talented team he ever coached. Even better than the 2001 State Championship team. But it was his first year and the team just came off a 1-9 season. Anthony McAllister, Al Harris and company came in Stevens Championship year. That was probably the most talented class his tenure there. He had them for 4 years and left when they did. The year he left was going to be the least talented team he would have had at AE according to Stevens. Maybe he is a good coach with talent. That is not always true. Some coaches can't handle talented players.
  13. I hear Fulton was moving up to 4A. A coach at Anderson County told me that one of his coaches was at a meeting and asks Ronny Carter why Fulton wasn't placesd in 4A 2 years ago because they were over 3A limit and he said that the regional TSSAA rep didn't make the change. I know Fulton had an enrollment of 1083 this fall. But I also understand that they wait until after the 1st semester to check school population. anyone can check school population numbers on the state of tennessee websight. I hope AE still plays them. I hate Catholic may leave that region also. If those two team leave what will they do in region 2 AAA.
  14. I will agree with you on that. It is Stevens responsibility as the head to get his coaches in order. I guess he didn't worry about things like that at Austin East. He had a couple of coaches that he worked well with. I still think he was the most logical choice though. But you are exactly right something fell apart internally this year. I'm learning as I read. Just a note I remember after AE won the state they had a lackluster year. Maybe Stevens needs a little humbling.
  15. Ole Dad... I have a question. Are you dissatisfied at Stevens or Green and Bailey? Is it because the political game that has been played for so long in Oak Ridge backfired? I can't see anyone more qualified than Stevens. He has been a head coach in a tradition rich program. So he is used to the pressure. He has turned a program around AE went 1-9 before he got there. And most important no one more qualified wanted the job. I hear of a coach Gray or Grace I don't know him but I heard his only head coaching job was at a junior high school. I also heard that he was always at odds with the head coach lusier. That is just specualtion I don't know if true. But out of the qualified coaches you have to go with Stevens. A home town kid who still lives in Oak Ridge. Therefore the adjustments will not be as much. When you don't get the other big name coaches you either hire within or someone very familiar with your program and Stevens was very familiar and to add the fact that he was a successful high school coach. And if you bring up it was in 3A. Ask Farragut, William Blount, Heritage, Karns, not to mention the Bradley County or the other teams if they would like to play in region 2AAA. I would bet the only teams that would make the playoffs are Oak Ridge and Ooltewah.
  16. personally i felt it was a very bad choice of words-it's definitely a Christian word-he shoulda used "trifecta" or "threepeat"
  17. did you mean 25 cause 26 is McCoy-he's gonna be a great one-but he ain't TANK!!!
  18. i was just adding to the"sizing up the game" sorry if this offended you-i thought it was pertinent info-any comment on the info i provided would be welcomed-MHS'85
  19. fyi borro's oppponents combined record for this year 75-81. red rebels apponents combined record 88-73. does this matter ? who knows-i do think it says alot when you look at the opponents records from the quarterfinals and semis. the burros played teams that were 8-4 (quarters) and 9-4 (semis). red rebels played 12-0 (quarters) and 13-0 (semis) after looking at this info i say red rebels 31-burros 20. MOVE THEM CHAINS-GO RED REBELS!!!!!
  20. Maybe Graham comes home. I think if Graham comes back then Speas would too. I do think AE, Fulton, and Catholic beat Farragut, Mc Minn County and William Blount. Therefore atleast 2 of these teams make the playoffs. Quite honestly with 1300 students Fulton could/should be 5A along with Maryville.
  21. I think Austin East went to the state and won it with Stevens as a head coach. By the way the current head coach at AE is from your great Oak Ridge. I am not from Oak Ridge. I honestly spent most of my life envying them. Why? Their facilties, the mystic, the walk to the field, the winning but most of all their great community support. Or what I thought the support was. You guys don't know how sick it would be to hear Stevens, Tillman, and Graham talk about their Oak Ridge Wildcats and the history over hear in knoxville. I learned to appreciate those guys for the love and effort they gave in east knoxville for the kids. But I realize that the special feeling they feel about their beloved Wildcat program has to be damaged now. I mean these guys sweat and bled for this school. They all have such pride for the program and I would bet Stevens is hurting more than anyone because of that pride. To say he is not worthy to coach Oak Ridge, look at records alone and there lies the answers. Look at past hires records they won't compare to his. You can say well he played 3A ball. I am a fan and biased to knoxville but I would bet that Catholic and Fulton would compete in region 2 5A. Those are teams that are in that 3A region. I always wonder why Graham and Tillman told Stevens no to coming to Oak Ridge. At first I thought it was do to the vacancy at AE. I come to find out Graham never applied for the AE job. They called him in August and asked if he would do it. Some more history I recently found out is Oak Ridgers wanted Bill Young out (good coach), Gattis (good coach 1 state championship and nationally ranked), lousier (a good coach) and now Stevens in two years. I sure hope he wins the state next year or he will be put out of HIS HOMETOWN. Amazing !!!!!!
  22. I do not think that coach Stevens was the best hire. I know the committee did not choose him. Ken Green and Mr. Bailey are the ones responsible for this mess we are in. Even if Stevens turns out to be a good coach there are some people that will never except him at Oak Ridge simply because of the circumstances he was hired under. I have stated before that he was not my first, second, or third choice either. I don't even know why they bothered to interview anybody. However he is our coach. CAK Stevens played for Young and was there in support for his retirement. I hear Graham is more interested in that job than Stevens. Second 1 state Championship, several undefeated regular seasons, several kids playing or played college football, over 97% graduation rate at Austin East. In a region that the top 4 can compete with any 5A region. I think he is a proven coach. He lost over 22 seniors last year. Let's get realistic.
  23. get your facts straight-they did make a PAT last week. also, they have only missed 4 PATs all year which is huge improvement from years passed. p
  24. it was a great time to work on the 2 point conversion cause it was somewhat of a game situation!!! never did see any dogs of war but i did smell something bad!!!
  25. they are worth it as long as you keep your head down-don't know of a spare-good luck
