  1. When Oliver Springs, Wartburg plays Coalfield no matter who should win, all bets are off. Those teams play their best game against Coalfield. I would assume same for Midway-Rockwood. Its more of a tradition thing for these teams. So thats why the scores are closer in most games then they should be. Just like CYJACKET said, the key word was "if" Coalfield had the same amount of students to pick from. Coalfield already has nearly 40-50 plays out each year with 100~ guys in the whole high school. Might look like Riverdale out there with nearly 100 kids.
  2. I said you *if* you give Coalfield 2x the athletes which would put them still under 400 kids, in whole school. They could compete easily in that region. Alcoa is just another level, top 5 best coach in the state and more kids going D1 then any other high school I know of. Loudon is really good also and would beat Coalfield more times then not, but the other schools Coalfield would easily complete against year in and year out. The past 3 years Coalfield would have made play-offs no doubt. That region normally had a team in the state championship anyways, by far the hardest region in 2A, and a few years ago, Coalfield's region over all was maybe the hardest in 1A with 5 teams that could beat each other on any night. The 4th team went and beat the #1 team in the state while the 4th team cheated the beat the 5th team with .8 seconds on the clock.
  3. If the fact that each 1 of those schools has 2x more students then Coalfield, that means you make 2x of every athlete on the past Coalfield teams. Then 8 out of the 11 players don't play both ways only about 3-5 do. Aloca would still win 4 out of 5 I would say, but Loudon maybe 3 out of 5, MAYBE Coalfields favor also. The others, kiss them good bye with 2x what Coalfield has, let alone Coalfield could easily complete with the rest every year. Alcoa could win 1,2,3,4,5a almost every year also, they barely got beat by Maryville, Fulton and we all know Maryville could win 5a. Alcoa has more d-1 recruits then any other school I know of anyways, haha and there 2A.
  4. Hill had a stronger arm at this point, but Doughty knows the game of football and understands it more. Hills first year starting the only passes Coalfield ran was bomb or pop, if you remember, hill probably threw for about 600yards, but yards after catch got him the stats. Maybe it will be the same thing this year, if they find some speed. This years Coalfield team will remind me of 03,04 Midway teams. Lining it up and say stop us. They wont be a come from behind team because of the big play ability gone, but maybe they wont need to if they can get 4-5 yards every play. Those 8-12 play drives really kills a defense's unity, intensity, and mental. People start blaming each other and blah blah, who really knows until the first game. BTW anyone know Coalfields Schedule this year?
  5. This is nothing against Coalfield or anything, but in 04 Wartburg probably had the one the best mine O-Lines in the state as far as size and strength, but you saw what any speed will do to big boys of front. Coalfield needs to find atleast 2 guys that run (LEGIT) 4.6s to keep teams from stacking the box this season. The O-line will give the QB lots of time also, but speed is everything in football on every level. Somehow I don't see anyone at Coalfield Squating 500+ right now, thats a great max for any College player. If you seen Brandon Davis 2 years ago, when he got outside, he was gone. This past year, he could have had about 300+ more yards in just the 6-7 games I watched if he had the same speed and not gained all the size. Yes, the size helped him get the extra yard when needed, but also lost a few TDs, maybe even a trip to the 4th round if he was still 185~. As far as the teams Coalfield and Wartburg plays, expect for Alcoa, the past 3 years Coalfield would have easily been in the play-offs, possible to 3rd round a few times. Wartburg, stick to basketball, let Coalfield play the football.
  6. Dunno, I just heard they had a good running back that was young. I did not goto the game last year, so I don't know his size or anything.
  7. The region isn't what it was in 02,03,04 where 4-5 teams could have won the region, but I don't think no one has it going into the season like Coalfield had it the past 2 years. Coalfield will have to find play makers, been spoiled the past few years by being able to call a simple run play or a short pass and a kid take it 80 yards. The way it looks now, double team Noah, stack 9 in the box and see what Coalfield has to offer. Also, Coalfield will need a leader to step up and take the team on his back, but I'm not sure who will fill those shoes yet. I look for a lot of hard hitting from Coalfield though, just don't see anyone they have being able to take it the distants on anyplay (right now). What is everyones thought about the region this year? I honestly have no idea from 1st-last. Harriman, have they found any heart yet to complete the total 1A package they got down there? I heard Midway had a good little running back, Oneida will be well coached. Oakdale got a new coach, Sunbright what do they have? Greenbak got anything back?
  8. Coalfield QB position will be the biggest problem they will face on the field. They have some kids that are good high school players to fill most of the positions, but they will lack the game-breakers and some big play ability they had the past few years. BTW their record from last years graduating class was this I think 2003 W-6 L-4. Should have been 11-2 win season easily. 2004 W-10 L-4 Beat 2 teams that beat them in play-offs, should have been 13-1. 2005 W-11 L-2 Injuries against OSHS gave them 1 loss, should have been 12-1. 2006 W-12 L-1 To many misstakes gave them loss in 3rd round. So, 4 yeas they went 39-9.
  9. I'm taking Coalfield by 12, it will be closer than that, but Coalfield hits their free throws at the end. I seen I guess what is almost the starting 5 yesterday at the school shoting just to get better for this game.
  10. I was ineligible this year because I transfered up, but I still had my RS so I took it. Next year I will be able to be on the field and dress out and will still be a soph on the field. So, three more years I can play and hoping to see some special teams, just don't have the height for their looking for at WR. I don't think they have updated the roster since the fall walk-ons came on, was only 4 of us, but last time I checked none of us was on it yet. Spent all last year going against 1st and 2nd team defense running whoever we was playings plays. Sping practice starts 2/22 and they said everyone is treated equal as far as like reps and playing time and such. Now, just trying to get bigger, stronger, faster to shot for kick off haha. The work outs which started last week are insane btw.
  11. My cell phone messed up and I had to get a new one so I dont have anyones number, but call me so I can get it again. Yea, I'm sure we could room together, our girlfriends might be approve of it though. hahaha
  12. Being from a small school, undersized, and not winning the state championship every year all work against people who come out of Coalfield. There you see a Mr. football finalist, state records, region championships, region MVPs, state semi finalist, all those things still doesnt ever get anyone from Coalfield noticed. I just hate seeing kids because they are from small schools or undersized even though their states, awards, and performance on the field is way better, they will still go with a 6'3 205 player from like Oak Ridge that wasnt even all state before they would a player from Coalfield. Thats just how it works.
  13. I got a phone call on Chrismas day by Mr. BD and he wished me a marry chrismas and said he had something to tell me. He said he will be joining me next year at the University of Tennessee. He told me the same thing I thought it will all be worth it running through that T Coalfield will now have two players playing at UT, maybe it can get on the recruiting map now. Maybe someone will realize that undersized, small town, white guys can still play some football at the next level.
  14. Glad to see 2 private schools in 1a back in the state championship, NOT. Figures if its not Trousdale or South Pitt, its a private school. No normal 200~kid public school can compete with privates in 1A, just a joke if you ask me.
  15. Great job kid, but some advice is to make sure on all your visits to colleges you talk to some players. Coaches are way different when recruiting then when you at first day of practice. I wasted a year of playing because I went to a small school that told me I would be playing early. Come to find out thats what they told everyone. Just enjoy it while you can, high school will be the best time of your life, because college is a business not for fun.
  16. Did someone really just say Harriman "has more heart than Coalfield?" Maybe more over all talent, but I think my contacts are messing up or something because surely that guy doesn't think Harriman has more heast then Coalfield does when it comes to football. High scoring game here guys. Coalfield 39 Harriman 33
  17. Coalfield 39 Oakdale 17 Oakdale always plays Coalfield tough, but just dont have the coaching/talent to stay on the field for 48 minutes with Coalfield.
  18. Well from talking to any player from Wartburg all I hear is they need a new coach and blah blah. It isnt going to get much better because when I graduate from UT with my teaching degree and of course I will want to coach high school football I wouldnt dare take a job that pays 3,000 a year and try to compete with Alcoa/OS/CAK/Rockwood/Sweetwater year in and year out. Let alone the teaching job paying 29-34k. Coach Kreis only stays at Coalfield for the love of the people. As for Coalfield I think they are deeper in skill positions this year then in the last 10~ but I'm kind of iffy about saying *Best* Coalfield should have a another great run into 2-4th round again. To go further into the play-offs the linemen will have to step it up with wanting to block and wanting to make huge wholes. Against C-gap they just done what was needed and didnt have the extra drive that takes teams deep into November and December. I would give up 5 years of college football for just my Senior year back guys along with about 99% of people who would give up anything for that last year. It goes by to fast so enjoy it.
  19. I didnt go to the game or anything so can someone tell me what all happened? High scoring ball game and who did good? I know Gunter and Shannon both have times when they should pass the ball. From hearing stuff from people at Coalfield, Coalfield has JJ and Gunter that does all the shoting. Shannon is still overrated like I said anyone that plays b-ball 365~ should be lot better then that, He's little too cocky for his own good.
  20. BTW hats off to Wartburg coach, don't know him but he is good and the kids play hard for him.
  21. 1. Shannons are over rated. Anyone that plays basketball all year around should be a lot better then that. 2. I watched Caleb play basketball last summer and the kid didnt impress me at all. The reason he scored so much because he shot at least 50% of the time he touched the ball. I know Wartburg will be very good and not saying they wont win it, just these people who play basketball 365 days a year and unlike other kids from Coalfield for instants work out during basketball season and is messes with shot. I think best player on Wartburg is Melton hands down. After J-Shannon won MVP last year the kid had a whole different walk. He's good yea, but take a Steven Gunter and play him basketball 365 days a year he's easily as good if not better.
  22. Just a thought, why doesnt TSSAA go ahead and give Hampton the state title? I mean according to there fans *IF* they play there best game they will just pound everyone. Doesnt matter how good anyone else is. I'm sure when Hampton looses this game it will be because of 1. refs 2. didnt play good 3. someone got hurt and it would have been different if he hadnt 4. I'm sure they will have about 30 more but you get my point.
  23. Coalfield 20 Cloudland 12 BD will have a few big runs by breaking some tackles, but will do more damage on defense then offense. I look for Chase Brown to have some critical catches for yardage and Coalfield uses the T.E. more in the middle.
  24. I wouldnt say Coalfield is better then they were last year. Last year Coalfield could score on any play with 3 different kids, this year its only 1. Coalfield is stronger and more phyiscal, but I would doubt to say better. Last years region 2-A lost all the power house players besides Coalfields Brandon Davis. Coalfield is no doubt good and will make it to at least 4th round if they dont beat their self. They will probably break the school win record also, but the winner from Coalfield Tro Co will win state. Region 2-A first 3 teams will win and sunbright goes home, but great job to them making the play-offs. If I'm correct this will mean Coalfield vs Midway, Hampton vs Hariman. Then it will be region 2-A title all over again with Coalfield making it to the semis.
  25. 1. Coalfield*- Good contender for the state title. 2. Oneida*- If Lambert gets healthy, then they have that shot as well. 3. Midway 4. Harriman-Sunbright (TIE)
