  1. Looks like I need to eat a bit of crow myself. I didn't think the Big Red had enought to keep it close. I'm not one for moral victories, but the team certainly showed me a lot. Was really impressed by the defense in all areas. Coach Brown had that d-line fired up and ready. I think their ability to get to the quarterback really made a difference. One or two plays and we potentially win. Excited for the rest of the season. Roll Red.
  2. MBA looked good last week, but Kinsbury was indeed terrible. Absent suspensions or significant injuries, the Shamrocks will win, likely by a large margin. Just too much firepower and depth. MBA will especially struggle in the defensive secondary, in my opinion. The Big Red is solid up front, but has no real skill on the outside. Having said all that, I hope I am wrong. I was also surprised to see MBA's numbers are down for football. I counted only 59 boys on the team. From the late 90's until recently, we've typically had around 75. That lack of depth starts to show up, especially on special teams and later in the year. Roll Red.
  3. Your recollection of '94 and '95 are incorrect. This is what happened: '94 team lost in the 5A2nd Round to JCM. Won at Franklin in Round 1. '95 team lost in the 5A semi-finals at BA. Beat JCM, Henry Co., and Lincoln Co. to get there. '96 team lost in 5A quarter finals in 2OT to BA on a missed call. And, yes, most would agree that game was for the state title.
  4. 1. Should have mentioned that stout '96 defense. Didn't give up a point for six straight weeks.
  5. Good man. It kills me that writers wouldn't take five minutes to do some research on the teams. I also think they need to be aware that D-II has two classifications. It appears that some so not know this. Wes, I nominate you to get the word out!
  6. Gotta somewhat disagree on your schedule point. The '95, '96 teams' first 5 games included Gallatin (a power at the time), Clarksville NE (Travis Stephens, Tim Terry, etc.), and Henry County. Not a D-II schedule to be sure, but not too shaby for the time. I can assure you those teams played harder and were more disciplined than the current group...and would not be 1-4. Losing to BGA is embarrassing. I realize they are much improved, but they weren't even on our radar 10-15 years ago. Wouldn't even have scrimmaged them. Agree. We are totally "un-physical".
  7. What!? And as far as mistakes being "correctable"...I sure hope so, but my goodness, it's Week 6 and I've seen little to no evidence of any progress in correcting mistakes.
  8. I think there is a lot of truth to that. However, I've seen HS teams with inferior athletes be very successful (see MBA teams in '95, '96). I know they have had quite a few injuries, but this MBA does not appear well-coached. They do look soft and unsure of themselves. Too many missed tackles and too many penalties. They just don't seem that disciplined. I don't see a killer instinct either. Not a lot of emotion or leadership. When was the last time MBA was 1-4? Coach Eu better get it turned around quickly or he may be headed elsewhere. I find it hard to believe that they would be 1-4 if the old staff were in place.
  9. Wow. Someone needs to educate the voters. Shows you how much the rest of the state cares about D-II.
  10. Agree. Seeing the defense out there looking at their wristbands before every play and scrambling to get into position is a bad sign to me.
  11. I've often thought the D-II AP votes were pretty bad. It's clear to me that some, if not most, of the voters don't have a clue about D-II. What gets me more than the ensworth thing is the D-II A teams being in there. Webb (3-2), ECS(3-2), USJ(4-1)? Even with worse records, Father Ryan, MBA, McCallie should be in there ahead of the D-II A teams, in my opinion.
  12. You are right on, as usual. Gioia's emasculatization(is that a word?) of MBA continues. The rock band is embarrassing and annoying. Serves no purpose, in my opinion. I'm sure the powers that be would say that those young musicians deserve an opportunity to showcase their talents. That's fine, but not at a FOOTBALL GAME. MBA crowds have always been late arriving, with only a dedicated portion of the crowd really paying attention and into the game. This has been the case since I can remember. I'm not saying I like it, but that's reality. Of course, winning cures some of that. I assure you that if this team were 4-0 rather than 1-3, the crowd would be a bit more lively.
  13. Sadly, I must concur with posters that have said it was the worst MBA performance they've ever seen, at least in the last 15 years. I think the BA player quoted in the paper pretty much summed it up when he said, "it seemed they weren't ready for us". MBA has always been known as a team that is extremely well prepared, disciplined, and hard hitting. I saw none of that Friday night. Arm tackling, looking lost, biting on fakes consistently, no pressure up front. The D-line looked soft. It may be time to think about moving some guys around. James Kay is big enough to play D-line, in my opinion, and looks a step slow at LB anyway. Why not try it? In years past, MBA has been deficient in athleticism and size, but found a way to win because they out-hit, out-schemed, and out-played their opponent. This doesn't appear to be happening with this team.
  14. Custer, welcome to CoachT. I'm glad you are here to instruct us on how to post. I was simply responding to the assertion that Ryan had the "best defense in the state" after wins over Cane Ridge and Overton. As Viper once said, "That's pretty arrogant, considering the company you're in". By the way, I think the Red Raiders will win.
  15. Here we go. Ryan is 2-0 and feeling cocky with Ensworth, Baylor, MBA, BA, BGA still left on the schedule.
  16. Also 2-0 vs. Central Hardin. I think I was a part of one or both of those.
  17. Classy post. Louisville has no major league sports teams. UL and horse racing are it. That leaves HS football. Different market. Two perenially dominant teams with little competition statewide. Competition in Kentucky leaves much to be desired. Over the last 10 years, Trinity is 6-9 vs. out of state opponents while winning 8 Kentucky state titles in its largest classification. Trinity is 1-3 vs. MBA all time. MBA will have to play their best game to win this year. Here's hoping they do. Roll Red!
  18. Thoughts? Can anyone enlighten me on what Kingsbury brings to the table?
  19. Got to see the first half or so of the scrimmage. Was stuck talking to people most of the time so didn't get a great feel for things. Also, I had no idea who 99% of the players are since I've been out of the loop lately. Briefly, MBA looked really good on the first drive. A good mix of pass and run. QB (#6?) was in shotgun most of the time. He looked to have good control of the offense. MBA running back #23 looks like he is a player. Very shifty and broke some long runs. MBA marched down and scored. First series on defense looked good too. Three and out and Oakland lost yardage. MBA got the ball back and took it to the Oakland 10. MBA then threw a INT in the endzone. QB should have dumped it to #33 in the flat, but threw instead to the WR in the corner and it got picked off. #6 for Oakland had a heck of a nice catch for the INT. Momentum seemed to shift a bit after that. Oakland scored on the ensuing drive. After that things looked pretty evenly matched. Not sure how much substituting was going on for either team. Oakland looked as big as MBA on the OL, although MBA looked more fit and was more physical. Their LB's did a nice job. Oakland had several very athletic backs and recievers. MBA has a big OL, pretty quick DL and some hard hitting LB's (#44). There is, as in years past, an apparent lack of speed at WR and I would be concerned about the defensive secondary, as well. Also saw one of the Ensworth assistants there taking notes. Anyway, just some random thoughts on what I saw. Roll Red.
  20. Any news on how it went today?
  21. Think I've got it... McCallie Baylor TMI Darlington Castle Heights CMA SMA My only question mark is RMA. Anyone know?
  22. Does anyone know which schools were members of the old Mid-South league? One's I can think of are: McCallie Baylor TMI Darlington (GA) BGA Castle Heights Columbia Military Academy? Riverside Military Academy (GA)? SMA?
