  1. Off subject, but that team in 1975 was a good one. One good QB in my friend, John Hall. Those were the days!
  2. What's the forecast for Friday night, RabbleRouser?
  3. NoDoubt, I don't want to take away from the ND-WH thread any longer so this will be the last I will mention on this. I don't want to carry on with what I wrote on the last thread or this one that is other other than to state this: Obviously being a OLD WH graduate, I have seen many changes in this town. I am not one that shuns newcomers that come in, and I am not one that shuns old classmates that have chosen to live in another town, raise their kids in other places or root for other schools, (though I've witnessed things like that at class reunions and sports events). I have close friends that I think alot of and spent many school years with that have moved to Greenbrier and other places and I think no less of them for rooting for their children's schools than I would think of my parents choice of rooting for ours when my siblings and I were growing up. There IS life outside of these city limits, and there are GOOD people in all towns. White House has grown in size and immenities mainly because we sit on the interstate. People have flowed into our town and brought with it the good, the bad and the ugly (well, I had to throw in some analogy there). I don't mind that we've grown for the convenience, but along the way, we've lost some of the "down-home" integrity and replaced it with a mistaken mindset that we are "well-to-do" when we are no better than anyone else. Somedays when I read these boards, I'd almost trade back to the harder-fought times of getting a win in WH sports along the way, than to be a hated town due to the the football wins that have caused some of us to become egotistical, bragging fools. WH1971 would probably remember with me the simpler times, and even though progress happens, and someone came up with the letters BDP a few years ago, we ALREADY had pride in our hometown long before the football wins, and long before a state championship. Some base Pride off of school teams wins..some base it off of family values, morals and family heritage. The latter, in my opinion win EVERY TIME over football scores.
  4. SportsDad, I do attend church, but I prefer not to say where or the denomination. I do consider myself a Christian. However, I didn't write that for my praise. I just think we let a game brown oblong piece of leather get us into a vulnerable state of mind, and before we know it we've said things on an anonymous board that we wouldn't say in front of anybody, and if most people would be honest, we don't truly mean words flung like ammunition. However, nobody is REALLY anonymous in the "bigger picture", are we? That's what we must keep in mind.
  5. Macon was leading through most of our game, but we came back in the last quarter to win. In the last few seconds of the game Friday night we also came back for the win with Ricky Ladd's run around the end. We didn't fare so well against Pearl Cohn. Check out our webpage at http://www.whitehousehigh.com/football/
  6. Dandy, I really had a higher opinion of your posts until now. They won in Week 10 fair and square. The streak is over, but you keep hanging on to it for some reason. You stated yourself that they didn't rub it in when they won. I understand they are upset, but be a MAN about this stuff and let it go. In the end, you're only hurting yourself.
  7. Polk County?? We've already been there. 1971, my brother was in your class. I know most everyone from that class, Please from one adult to another, just let this thread die. COACHT.. PLEASE....lock this thread!!!
  8. I've been thinking about this over the last couple of days, and I have a question for all the people here. How can we be so civil to a stranger that we meet on the street, and yet let football season turn us into people that we really wouldn't like if we met them on the street? These people sitting across from us in the opposite stands are still strangers. Each person CHOOSES where we live, and each person CHOOSES to support the sports teams we do. These attacks have become personal because one sees it as if we attack the other's home(town), you attack them/us. Who are any of we to belittle someone for where they choose to live?? If there wasn't anyone to play against the teams we'd be watching practices, not a game. If either team went out and ran over every single team, it would be pretty boring if there was no stiff opposition. But WHEN we play this WH-GB rivalry every year, we both oppose a team that we've beat and we've been beaten by, and both teams FANS come out with the hate because each team beat the other. I've read the message about Greenbrier being called hicks and that is wrong. WH may have a few more stores, but we are in no way big city, and I, for one, don't want to be, so we can't sterotype. Just because either team of boys shows THEIR talents and beat another team of boys on a field, that has nothing to do with the equality of the citizens of each town, and especially has NOTHING to do with these kids that just want to play sports. Until we, mostly parents, or fans become what we become on a message board. Hate is a mighty strong emotion, and I'm sure most here have used it flippantly. I don't hate Greenbrier's people or I would hope that I don't live in a town where people hate Greenbrier people or that I not be hated to live in a place where where my parents raised me. As has been before, families, workplaces and friends share these two towns. We act like idiots after a ballgame that means nothing but numbers on a record; some choose to hang onto who beat who and keep track of the numbers just like it makes them worthier or higher class people if THE TEAM comes out with the higher number. It is not true. ANY team can be beaten and sometimes we're just too blinded to see that. As I worshipped this morning, I thanked God for the wonderful things He has given me. The chance to live in a free land, in America, where all too often the hate is bigger than the people. I am sure that God is pretty ashamed of alot of fans after this weekend's game for their actions, and words. And yet He let us get up again this morning, and for some come back to stir the pot some more. That my friend, is Free Will. What you do with it is being "noted" and the only score we need to worry about is the one at the end of Life's "Game". For those that choose to go on hate Greenbrier or White House, it's your choice. No one can come on here and say who will win for how many more years, or who won't get the win. In case you don't know better, nobody on either side knows. Either team can be beaten...that much has been proven. If you choose to go on with this bashing each other's great schools, efforts and kids, go right ahead. I'm not keeping score, but I know who is. I'm done with this thread. I'm moving on with my life. If you stop and think how truly small this is in the scheme of things, maybe you will too.
  9. TimBDP, The older I get the more I realize about some of the people in this town. As having been a band member of the Marching Blue Devils at one point, I really don't think you have any idea at the pressure these kids face performing on field in front of hundreds of people. Don't hit your mark, miss a step, or not be at the exact place at the exact time, and the whole formation is messed up. The kids work hard at practice, have to stay confined to play during the ballgame instead of being up roaming around with their friends, be attentive at all times, and represent WHHS in competitions and parades. Some of the current teachers that teach these kids were BAND members, yet they seem to be good enough to teach the football players. If this is a reflection of White House's attitude, then no wonder the band is so small. White House had a marching band long before the initials BDP ever came along. The band WAS the pride of White House when the football team was a losing team. What makes you think that these kids on the football team are more important that the kids giving equal effort in the band? If your pride is in only in kids with a sports uniform, then shame on you.
  10. Congratulations to the Blue Devils. You sure shocked me and alot of other people around me. I'll be honest and say I wasn't sure about this one. Neither were other some other fans if they would admit it. At least Josh did. The boys played a hard fought game. Almost mistake free. The Bobcats penalties make a big game difference tonight but they played one heck of a game. I knew Kirk Williams would do everything he could to keep this from being a shutout. Justin Pigg made a phenomoneal play and gave it his all, as both the teams did. Like Vandy and Superbowl said, the only way the game ends is with someone being ahead. One for the Bobcats, one for the Blue Devils this year. I'd call that even. They are evenly matched and they showed that. As for the continuation of this 24 year stuff, and carrying on the smack, it seems to be a little too enjoyable for some so-called adults, on both sides. It's time to move on. Grow up. There's no more class in a bragging winner than there is a sore loser. We won...move on to Notre Dame thread and let's get ready for a road trip.
  11. This quote is something Chris put on the board about Mr. Football finalists:
  12. Vandyman, Just because I live in White House (and have been here all my life) doesn't mean that I have a vision problem. I've watched this town grow for nothing but a blink in the middle of the road, to the size it is today. I've watched WHHS grow to a conglomerate, a good school, but back in my years, my education went a little further than the city limits of White House, and my brain hasn't been "washed" yet, I guess. Honey Run Creek is the biggest stream of water in this town, but sometimes I sure feel like we live on the banks of De-nial. Everybody in the stands can murmur and whisper about what goes on inside the workings of small town sports, but no one will say it. If we just sit back, watch, and shake our bleach bottles, we will be fine. Or so they seem to think. No one wants to point out the flaws in this system for fear of being blackballed in White House. Heaven help the ones that get that, for instance, the kids that had no choice but to go to WHHeritage, or the ones that went voluntarily. But that's another subject. Don't get me wrong, I am a Blue Devil fan, but I am a Titans fan, too. But just the word "fan" doesn't mean that you can't see what's wrong with a team, or where the coaches are making call that don't appear to be the right one. Most of the time, we have to just settle for "hindsight is 20/20" and we're supposed to say "well...it's okay then". I agree with you that if White House thinks the last 23 years is going to make Greenbrier fall over and say Uncle, they really are in denial. Oh, yea I do have faith...in White House's want to. But if we base the playoffs on what a team wants to do, there would be a mighty be mess at Murfreesboro. If you keep on doing what you've always done, you always get, what you always got. Yes, White House has been a big time winning team in the past. This year, against quality teams, we've been "forunate". Porter said it himself. He knows our chances going back into Greenbrier. And I hope he's not swimming in Denial. Not having a passing game against a defense like Greenbrier's will end up gettiing Ricky hurt. But then having a bad passing game like we have will end up getting Ricky (or Mash) hurt. Their defense will eat him alive if Dustin tries to run it. And the sad part of the whole season is that we could have played this with a marquee that sports more than one name for White House. Ricky is good, don't get me wrong. But there are lots of BD players that are getting a little tired of going out there, taking a beating every week and Ladd's name getting all the print. I know two of them personally. So here we go week 12. We can go over there with our hopes up and acting like we own the game as we go in, but everyone in those White House stands will be holding their breath. WE know all it takes is one bad hit, and we don't have a game plan that's worth a hill of beans. If we come out with a win, we just get to exhale for another week. For those that think I am "not for the family", all I got to say is, in case you haven't noticed, White House is not the mafia. And try telling WH Heritage about "family". For those that think I should pack up and leave if I feel this way, I can say that I've been here longer than some of you have been alive, and you won't find a bulldozer big enough to pull up these roots. But just because I have White House roots, doesn't mean I'm blind. There are better teams than us out there, especially this year. MY .02. Take it or leave it.
  13. No pressure, Dandy? I understand you trying the reverse psychology, but no pressure? What seed are we? #3. Where is this game? Greenbrier. Who won the game two weeks ago? Greenbrier. I have to agree that the streak has nothing to do with playoffs. We said ourselves that Greenbrier didn't rub our noses in it. But I guess some White House fans can't let it go. Childish if you ask me, cause it's over and done. We'll go play this game and do our best, I'm sure. But Greenbrier playing us for all these years is not like playing Polk that is unfamiliar. Porter and Williams know how the other thinks. We only won by 7 against Polk. We got beat by 10 against Greenbrier. These two teams know each other too well for either to be a runaway. But man, White House needs to be realistic. And as much as I love the blue, without a passing game, if Greenbrier doesn't do us in Pearl Cohn or Notre Dame will. Some may say I don't have faith but hey if its' being said in the stands, I can say it here. It's not like Greenbrier hasn't seen it for themselves.
  14. Jo Byrns is under the radar. Unexpected power that can take it all.
  15. Way to go boys! Go hit em hard and show them how we do it on top of the hill.
  16. We would really like that but I don't have the details of what the timeline is. Now that we share the field with Heritage it does pose a problem. If we ever won first round home playoffs we would be in a fix. Yes, this field is showing it's age, but the parking is to the advantage even though getting in and out of the stadium is sometimes a pain. With WHHeritage talking of a new school out on 76, I would assume that they will build their own field, and White House will try to get us to use Whitson Stadium a little longer. I'm sure there will be some that want to play here forever. I know Greenbrier's field has in the same location since I was little too (course, I'm older than you), but are there any plans to build a new one in Greenbrier's new park?
  17. Yeah, gotta give Kudos to Greenbrier on their fanbase. I found it very misleading when the announcers on CSS talked about all the cars parked behind the visitors bleachers like that was White House. That wasn't US. That was ALL Greenbrier, so what someone wrote about the Bobcats sit on the visitors side too is right. It is a sea of Green!
  18. Notre Dame will be tough. But Macon possibly can pull this one out. Macon may need to work on a few new plays but I agree with FatCat that a long bus ride can wear down a team before they even get there.
  19. Meigs will not find it that easy to come in and take this ballgame. Herndon, Dill and Pigg will keep the ball going forward while Robertson, Krisle and Seay along with a host of others will build a wall. Greenbrier is a complete four quarter team. One thing we found is they don't lay down in the last quarter, or even in the last minute. Greenbrier is tougher than you think.
  20. The Polk County fans can get the scoop at http://www.whitehousehigh.com/football/
  21. Jo Byrns' home advantage is going for the Red Devils. I think they will do well and I think they can pull of the win. The Jo Byrns fans won't have the excess Robertson County fans except for maybe Springfield's this week. Jo Byrns, Greenbrier and East Robertson are the three #1 seeds out of five high schools in the county will have Robertson County rocking this Friday night. White House travels but we wish Jo Byrns the best of luck! You can take em'!
  22. ChrisBurr, sounds like you psycho drugs aren't working if you think all the Region 4 teams are getting beat the first round. There is NO way. If you had picked one or two, maybe you would have some credibility but you're just blowiing smoke if you think all four of us are going down in Round 1. Won't happen. Book it! And even if you were even close to right (which you aren't) Lipscomb will eat Fulton's lunch! But then again, Fulton won't even be near the Boro this year, unless they're in the stands.
  23. The way the counties connect in this area is crazy in aspects of zoning. Kids from across 31W have to pay to come to White House while kids down in Goodlettsville on Hwy 41 (going toward Springfield) can come 15 miles to school with no problem. But whoever heard of a straight lined county line? But then what would we do if we tried to start a White House city school system? The kids that are just outside the city limits couldn't come here? That would leave out Cottontown and the areas that have always gone to Sumner. It may be a nice town but it's location sure causes a quandry and a division. Greenbrier is forunate not to have a county line near them, but they have had rezoning too, sending younger kids that have always gone to Greenbrier to Krisle way out on Hwy 49, and ones closer to Ridgetop to Watauga. Who makes up these rules??? Once a kid has a set school path of elementary, middle and high school, don't mess with their zoning!
  24. The White House football teams of recent years have been able to enjoy the "luxury" of having a big stadium and I understand that that's where many young men will remember Blue Devil football being played. I was remembering the yesteryears that the Blue Devils would host teams like Greenbrier on the what is now a mere memory of a football field that is behind the civic center. Even with the nice facilities of Whitson field, the old time football field holds good memories. The same goes for going to Greenbrier like we did the other night. They have played on that field since I was a little kid. White House has no room for whining about sharing a field when some some schools don't to have their field planted in the middle of a big city park. And to be fair, White House Heritage is as much "city" as White House is. Again wasn't the kids fault that the schools split.
