  1. Some thoughts on the game... Karns coach goes on 4th and 5 from the Beaver 45 and comes up short by 2 yards on the Beaver’s first offensive possession. Result….. The Indians have a short field and score to go up 7-0. The next 17 DB points come after turnovers by the Beavers offense. Karns does get one of those touchdowns back with a defensive pick of their own. For Karns to stay in the game they would have needed to play mistake free football and it didn’t happen. Give credit to the DB defense because they were very aggressive against the bone and filled the gaps. I don’t know if the DB offense had all their normal weapons, but on Friday they didn’t seem all in sync. I would like to think that the Beaver D had something to do with that and I thought Karns stood a better chance when DB tried to pass. Take away that one screen pass and there wasn’t much given up by way of the pass. The Beavers played hard all night, especially with the defense on the field for long periods. I still haven’t figured out how the Karns punter got all those punts off without a block against the DB rush. Times have changed at Karns…..DB and others know they need to bring their A game when playing the Beavers. That is a positive for the kids and the community. Good Luck to the Indians on the remainder of their season. Their players played a good clean hard fought game.
  2. crystal5puppy, The biggest thing that stood out about Jeff Co. was they looked youthful. I'm not sure if they are young, but they seemed to be. There was one "GREAT" one-handed catch by Jeff. Co that would be a highlight at any level of play. They didn't have much time to throw on a regular basis and with their running back now at Alcoa, his replacement was not as effective. The Beavers didn't shoot theirself in the foot with turnovers and I believe only had to punt one or two times. They are still having to run against defenses stacked on the line, but Lee Henry does offer some speed at WR and had an outstanding catch. Matt Browning also had a nice catch on 3rd and 15 for a 1st down that kept a drive alive. If they can get some of the same in games ahead it will help the running game. The Beavers defense continues to play better that I ever thought possible and seem to play much better when the Beaver offense eats up the clock. It's nice to be 3-3, but the Beavers should be 4-2. Another thing on Jeff. Co; it was their homecoming and their crowd was not up to Jeff Co. crowds of years past. Interest in their program must have some problems.

  4. I haven’t got to watch the Red Devils in person, but have seen some film of the Sevier County game. I’m also familiar with some of the Halls players and I believe Karns will have their hands full come Friday night. I’ve always liked Trey Lucas as an athlete and know that Tray can beat you many ways. Another player that looks impressive is Justin Reese. Justin runs hard and Halls uses him well on misdirection plays. He also comes at you hard on defense. The Halls defense has good size and will provide problems for the Karns wishbone. The wishbone has not been at it’s best for the Beavers the last two weeks and will need to improve this week in practice to make it a game. The Beavers defense has played better that I expected. A play or two here and there and the Beavers could have pitched a shutout or two. The Halls team is the best balanced attack that the Beavers have faced, so it will be interesting to see how they perform against Halls. If the Beaver offense can eat up some clock on their drives, it will help the defense. Kicking…..Halls and almost all other teams have the advantage over the Beavers. I’m surprised that it has not hurt the Beavers as much as it should. I hope the Beavers hang tough and make a game of it.
  5. ReadytoRumble, You "hit the nail on the head"...Congrats on that pick and the Bearden win. It was really a very close game all the way. A good night for a high school game; huge crowd, both outstanding bands and a nip-and-tuck football game. Good luck the rest of the way.
  6. ReadytoRumble, Looks I’ll have to change my prediction after reading today’s News Sentinel. They have Karns as the favorite in tonight’s contest. I don’t believe the Beavers have been favored to win a football game in 25 years. When you take that with today’s rain affecting the Beavers enormous passing attack, it could put Karns in uncharted territory. Good luck to both teams tonight.
  7. ReadytoRumble, We are much better picking baseball games than football and I passed on making a prediction the first time I read your post mainly because of the way you started the thread. When you pointed out that the Karns victories came at the hands of teams with a .500 or less winning percentage. To me that indicated you thought the Karns victories was less than worthy. It would be like me bringing up that Bearden's only victory was against a team that hasn't won a game. A victory is a victory and all are worthy. "W's" and "L's" this early in the season has a lot to do with each teams early scheduling. I was pulling for the Bulldogs when I heard of their early lead against their rival; something about a team holding up four fingers in a preseason photo that wasn't real good sportsmanship in these eyes. I sat in the bad weather last fall and saw the Beavers lose a game at Bearden I thought they should have won, but it went in Bearden's win column. I expect a good game this fall and since I have a player in the mix I will have to go with the Beavers Friday night. Karns is yet to play a game where turnovers haven't hurt them and if they can accomplish that Friday they could make things easier. The Beavers are small, but scrappy and will fight for every inch. They have good team attidude so don't look for them to fold if they fall behind. They are few in number, but are in great shape. I'll pick Karns 20 - Bearden 10
  8. HTV, Congrats on a great win.
  9. How many of the AE 12 penalties were racially thrown flags? Was the one that ejected the AE player for throwing a punch racially motivated?
  10. 5A Karns 21 - 3A AE 20 No one picked this Beaver win after the Catholic win over AE last week. Everyone expected AE to runup the score on the Beavers. The Beavers didn't give up after falling behind 20-6 at the half. Congrats to Karns. Also congrats to the AE band...They were fun to watch.
  11. I saw where you said on the football board that Danny Sharp in now the baseball coach at Central. Congratulations to Coach Sharp
  12. Congrats to Kyler and familt. thumb
  13. cpuppy, I didn't mean that Karns shouldn't be in the bone, I just don't think the kids see it as a lot of fun and something that makes them want to be in the mix and go out for the team.
  14. The number of around 45 was from workouts of the upperclass (Soph, Jr and Sr) with another 10-15 in Spring sports. Any additional numbers will come from incoming freshmen. Not all is related to football, many students only choose to play one sport today, that is sad. But for a school of around 1900 projected students this year, the numbers are not good. Another is Karns and the wishbone - No "Fun & Gun" in the bone!
  15. Last I heard, Karns had around 45 kids turn out for the football team.
  16. allamerican, Coach Sharp had an excellent record at Karns. The team was always in the hunt for District championships and Regional appearances I don't know his exact record, but the team was always competitive. Caleb Moore is a fine player and did well at Catholic before heading to ETSU and now MLB. I don't know who played in front of him while at Karns, but hopefully the coach had the best 9 on the field at that time.
  17. Bizazz, Funny today aren't ya! Naw, I'm still holding out for a place on Ray-Bans staff. Should be plenty of extra money soon with a new contract. I wonder if the new high school will be in District 3? District 4 has too many schools already. I do think it strange that so many jobs are open right now, but with todays parents wanting their way all the time, coaching jobs may soon be hard to fill with quality coaches. I've been meaning to ask you if you like to paint???
  18. I understand that Coach Gaines resigned and it has nothing to do with anyone wanting him out. I don't know of any names that have come up but wonder if Coach Danny Sharp would be interested? He helped Gaines last season at Central. That makes three jobs open in District 3 now: Powell, Central and Clinton. Then the new high school in Harden Valley will need a baseball coach. Anyone heard any news??

  20. Nothing to hang your head for Admirals... You are to be congratulated on another great season. thumb
  21. David, Did you get my PM?
  22. David, Not sure, but it may be in the District tournament. The game Halls had with Oak Ridge was a forfet and they then beat Clinton in the District final. Both of these games aren't listed. I don't believe the Oak Ridge game is supposed to be counted, but I'm not sure.
  23. Farragut wins 10-2 Congrats to the Admirals on another return trip to the state tournament.
