  1. Cocke Co. won over Central 62-53 With Borum playing at Halls it does add spice to the game.
  2. Karns wins 59-57 over Oak Ridge. I believe that is 5 wins over the Wildcats in a row by the Beavers. Oak Ridge led all the way and had a 9 point lead late in the 4th. Give the Beavers credit as they fought back as Victor hit two free throws with 3.9 seconds left. Oak Ridge had a game winning 3 pt shot bounce off the rim as time expired. Fersner was held to 11 and Victor led Karns with 13. If Oak Ridge had won the game I wouldn't put them as the best District 3 team. Knoxville Halls and Powell are both playing better that the Wildcat team that I saw tonight. Looks like the district race is wide open.

  4. mocs, Cameron has always played that way, he also stood out playing youth basketball. He was also a good baseball player and I hated to see him give it up for basketball, but looks like he made a good choice.
  5. Knoxville Halls 80 - Anderson County 68 Anderson County led 38-35 at the half, but Halls came back to lead after the 3rd. Cameron Sharpe 22 pts
  6. james...Good look at Halls next week. I think Halls should win all three, but playing the three so close together could cause one loss. I'll look at Karns.. I was out-of-town last weekend and missed the Central game, but understand Karns played well. That might mean they are adjusting to basketball without the shooting of Shipwash. Oak Ridge at Karns - I haven't watched Oak Ridge but was impressed with the win over Alcoa, but the Wildcats have been up and down some this season. They have some inside coaching knowledge on the Karns players and I look for this one to go down to the wire with the Beavers giving the Wildcats their first "L" in district play. Karns at Campbell Co. - This game was close at Karns and I still believe that the Cougars are better than "0-fer" in the league. If the Beavers win over Oak Ridge then they could overlook the trip to Campbell Co. and be prime for the upset. Anderson Co at Powell - I look for Powell to bounce back from the Halls loss and Anderson Co will be tired after the game with Halls. Powell wins Powell at Fulton - VERY tough to go to Fulton and win, I'll have to go with Fulton here. If Powell proves me wrong then they should win District 3 Central at Cocke Co. - Central wins one Central at Oak Ridge - Wildcats in this one. Campbell Co at Clinton - Clinton wins.

  9. Congratulations to Powell on their 79-70 win over the Beavers tonight in a good hard fought basketball game. Hats off to the Powell coaching staff who called a timeout in the 4th trailing by 5 points. I believe they then scored 9 straight points and Karns never recovered. Powell played hard all night and didn't seem to have the lull that I'm seen in some of their games this year. If they keep that up they will be hard to beat. Scott Shipwash didn't dress tonight and was in the student section so I guess his career is over. Too bad, the Beavers could have used some of his offense tonight. Oak Ridge was ahead by 7 points at the end of 3 quarters as I drove home.
  10. Isn't this the same Randy Wallace that played at Tennessee?
  11. Does anyone know the all time record for Oak Ridge vs. Oliver Springs in Basketball? I always heard that the series was dropped many many years ago because the series was so far one way.... in the Oliver Springs win column. It was never started back even when Oak Ridge sports reached the high level they are now known for.
  12. I heard a rumor that Shipwash has quit the team. Can someone confirm that he won't be in the lineup tonight?
  13. Wow, Sounds like a win for sure now!
  14. I didn't see the last Powell/Karns game, but from the score it wasn't a competitive game from the Beavers standpoint and hasn't been since Lee Smith transferred to the Panthers. The Beavers will have to step up their play inside to compete or hit about 60% of those 3's. On the positive side the Beavers have more players contributing lately and that can't do anything but help.
  15. Thanks cyclone! Good job by those Chattanooga area players and the team.
  16. Three new to me: 01/08/05 - Chris Lowe - OF - Goodpasture HS - Trevecca University 01/08/05 -Tyler Watson - RHP - Houston HS - Texarkana JC 01/08/05 - Alex Vaughn - RHP - Soddy Daisy HS - Cleveland State CC
  17. Mocs, Thanks for the recap on the Central/Powell game. District games should always be hard fought. One only has to look at the Heritage win over Maryville last night to see why high school basketball is so much fun. I watched the Karns/Campbell Co. game and it was also interesting as the 1st quarter had just started and Campbell Co. came out sharp and Coach Henson didn't like what he saw and pulled the starting five. The second five entered and played hard on defense and also on the offensive end. They played most of the first quarter and held the lead at the end of the 1st. When the starters entered again they played with more focus and pulled out for a 12 point halftime lead. Matt Housley led Campbell Co. back in the 3rd as Karns seemed not to have the answer on his drives to the basket. When Matt fouled out in the 4th Campbell Co. missed their go-to player and Karns again pulled away. If Karns can continue to get the production from players like Jones (20pts), Booher (9pts), Hermosillo (15pts) and Caswell (5pts) it will sure help them in the District race. They will need everyone clicking to have a chance of a "W" in their next game.
  18. Big win for Heritage. Maryville had been playing some very good baseball of late. Any details on the game?
  19. Dist 3 Standings.... Tonight: Oak Ridge.. 77 - Alcoa 47 - Wow! Big win for the cats. Karns........ 79 - Campbell Co. 67 - Expected spread. Central......54 - Powell 60 - Closer than expected? 20. I left with 2:00 min left in the 4th tonight and Catholic was ahead by 20 and Connor and Parton was on the bench at that time. I don't know the final.
  21. Maryville is the only team to go 3-0 in the tournament as they blow away Karns tonight 76-43. Powell won against Heritage but I can't remember the score. I didn't see any of the Anderson Co. - West game and didn't hear those results. Maryville is playing very good basketball right now.
  22. Karns 53 - Heritage 45 in the 8:00 PM game... I also heard Maryville beat Anderson Co 61-59 in OT and Powell beat West 70-64 in the early game.
  23. I made this post in another "TIS Tournament" thread yesterday: I watched two games tonight, the Karns vs. West game that Karns won 61-51 in OT. It was a real ugly game from both teams. No one really stood out - bad passes, turnovers, mental mistakes, you name it both teams had it all. Karns finally put some type of game together and pulled away in OT as Fersner led the Beavers with 19 tonight. Maryville hit the game winner as time expired in the Powell vs. Maryville game on a 5 ft shot in the paint. Powell led almost all the game until midway in the 4th as they put together a 6 point lead. Powell fought back to tie the game until the Rebels hit the last bucket. It was my first time seeing Maryville and I thought they were a well coached team. They don't look first for the 3pt shot and take the ball to the hole well for some undersized players in the middle. Once they take the ball inside they do know how to finish. They also made some 3's when the ball was kicked out when the inside was taken away. I almost thought the Rebels were a bit of a throwback team as they play hard-nosed defense and just go about their game plan on offense in workman like fashion. They were fun to watch. Anderson County was set to play Heritage as I left.
