ulcpanther and VHSFAN, I understand school spirit and believing in your team, but I think you may be a little over zealous with your picks. I don't think Volunteer has near enough manpower to compete in this one. After Thursday night, you'll be wondering what hit you after you see that awesome West defense. West 38, Volunteer 7.

It's safe to say that the Morristown West Trojans are licking their chops in anticipation of this Thursday's game because a win for West wraps up yet another Five Rivers Conference title. I don't see Volunteer even playing close in this one. The West defense is the real deal, and the Wing T offense doesn't stand a chance against the likes of Fanney, Goforth, Frederick and Dorning. Note: West held Greeneville to 87 yards of total offense. If Volunteer had that much trouble with East, it could be really ugly for the Falcons on Thursday night. I like West to win big on their way to a Hawkins County sweep with a win over Cherokee next week. PREDICTION: Morristown West 38, Volunteer 7.

Melrose also has to deal with Hillsboro. Way too early to make predictions.

Greenway probably won't play. That said, I believe East will win either way. Greeneville didn't show me anyhting against West. PREDICTION: Morristown East 17, Greeneville 14.

Well, like I had been trying to say all week, the Morristown West defense was ready to play heading into this game, and it showed. West led 30-0 in this game at the half, and the score could have been much worse than 37-0 if Coach Woods had not called off the dogs on offense. As for stats, West ran for 225 yards and passed for 134 more for a total of 359 in the game. And for the stat of the game, Greeneville had just 87 yards of total offense in the contest against one of the best defenses in the state. GHS ran for just 80 yards on 38 carries, and they had just seven yards through the air on 1-of-7 passing. West now has put themselves in the drivers seat for another Region 1-4A title, and Greeneville has to beat Morristown East next week in Morristown to get second place. I don't see that happening, and I'll say East will win 20-14.
